In this message, we see Paul continuing his thought on how to live in a way that reflects the holy character of Jesus. He uses the metaphor of clothing to illustrate this spiritual truth. In this message, we see Paul start to talk about how God’s holy character will begin to be reflected in our lives because of the new life we have in Christ. Since we’ve been risen with Christ, our lives should not reflect the characteristics of those dead in sin, it should reflect the holy character of Jesus!

In this message, we see Paul dive deeper into what he means by us being complete in Christ. He is telling us some things that are true that show Jesus is enough. He is enough because His work on the cross is sufficient. However, if that is true, and it is, then that means that other spiritual pursuits are inadequate for our salvation and sanctification.

In this message, we see Paul share that he has a great conflict, he agonizes, for the people he is writing to. He agonizes because he knows that the enemy, fake pastors, and false teachers will come and try to take them captive by worldly philosophies and man made traditions. And he urges them to continue growing in their knowledge and understanding of God and His ways, and to be grounded, rooted, and established in Jesus, so that when these things come to take you captive, you will not be shaken.

In this message, we follow Paul’s train of thought as he points out that each believer has Jesus living within them. Because of this truth, we need to understand some realities of our lives. We are righteous before God. We will suffer for Christ’s sake. We are called to proclaim the gospel. We are strengthened by God to accomplish all of this. We take each of these realities, and learn how they apply to our everyday lives.

In this message, we see Paul declare some of the most beautiful and robust truths we find in Scripture about Jesus. His argument is essentially this: Jesus is who He says He is. And because of who Jesus is, there is something He is to be in each of our lives—preeminent. We should each evaluate whether Jesus really holds first place, uncontested, in our lives!

In this message, we look at what Paul says they are praying for specifically for the church at Colosse. It’s a prayer for them to grow in their understanding of God and His ways, as well as in their actions. We see what Paul is praying would take place in their lives, and we apply it to our lives, by asking that God would do the same things in our lives as well!

In this message, we see Paul begin his letter to the Colossians with some encouragement. He celebrates and thanks God for the evidence of Jesus working in their midst. They have faith, hope, and love in their church! As we see what was true about their church, we evaluate ourselves today, and see if these things can be said about us.

In this message, we get introduced to the book of Colossians, looking at the background and context for this letter. It was written to a people who were being confused by conflicting philosophies and distracted by lesser things. And Paul gives them a clear antidote to these problems—the preeminence of Jesus in every part of their lives! From this, we begin our study with a call to clear the pedestal and place Jesus solely as priority in our life.

In this message, we see how the story of Esther concludes! The day comes when it is allowable by law for people to come after the Jews, kill them all, and take their stuff—the day where the Jews are allowed to defend themselves by killing and plundering the possessions of all who would attack them. And there is a great day of victory for the Jewish people in the Persian Empire! But it doesn’t stop there. The Jews establish a way to remember and celebrate this deliverance, so that all future generations would remember God’s faithfulness at work.

In this message, we learn about how the law of the Medes and Persians, that had called for the annhilation of the Jews, would be undone. The law was one that could not be revoked. But it was not an irredeemable situation. God was at work reversing all things!

In this message, we see what transpires between Esther, Ahasuerus, and Haman at the second banquet. It’s another reminder in the story that God will enact justice on the wicked and will reward the righteous. And we specifically look at the timing of it all, as we learn that we can trust God, not only in His fulfillment of promises, but also in His timing!

In this message, we see Haman seek to get vengeance on Mordecai by setting up gallows to hang him on. But at the same time, the king is reminded of how Mordecai saved his life, and seeks to honor him! In a great irony, Haman is humbled, and Mordecai is exalted! From this story, we learn that God sees all things, and keeps watch over the evil and the good. And we can trust Him to do what is right concerning both.

In this message, we find what Mordecai and Esther’s response is to the decree that orders for their people to be wiped out. Mordecai encourages Esther to think that she just may be in the position she is in for a reason. And Esther decides to act in courage and faith in order to plead for her people!

In this message, we are introduced to the villain of the story of Esther—Haman the Agagite. We find him to be a prideful, prejudiced, deceptive, and evil man. Evil seems to be prevailing in this story! Yet, we know that God is still working. From this part of the story, we discover what we can be doing even when evil persists and surrounds us.

In this message, we continue to follow the story of Esther. And we find Xerxes lonely and regretful. His servants decide on a plan to make him better. The plan is nothing short of objectifying, adulterous, and sinful. Yet, we see God use the sinful desires and sinful actions of sinful people to accomplish His good purposes.

In this message, we get introduced to the major players in the story of the book of Esther, and look at the setting in which this story takes place. It is a sad tale of drunkenness and debauchery. However, despite the deviance of the king and the people, God is at work, orchestrating and setting things in place for His good purposes, so that a young woman full of faith might be used to save God’s people.

This letter by Paul is his shortest one. However, it may just be the most explosive, in terms of impact. In this message, Paul closes out his letter to Titus by telling him that there are some things that he needs to avoid in order to be careful to maintain good works. In this passage, we see Habakkuk sit back and wait for another reply from God toward his questions. He presumes that God will rebuke him, but instead, God directs him to write down the words He speaks as a woe to the Babylonians. However, in the words of God, we also see assurances to the believer of God’s sovereignty. And we conclude that though everything may seem destructive and chaotic around us, God is still on His throne, and we can trust Him!

In this passage, we see the prophet Habakkuk coming to the Lord with MORE questions! God has given him the details of His plan for judging Judah’s sin, but Habakkuk doesn’t really like that plan. What we see is really at play in Habakkuk’s mind is that who He believes God to be and how he sees God working do not seem to match up in his eyes. In this message, we are challenged to cling to who God is when we don’t understand what He is doing.

Apparently, in this time of the early church, there was a great love and respect for teachers of the Bible. Insomuch that they were trying to generate as many as they could. James cautions his readers against this thought process, because it was an indicator of another problem they had: they didn’t understand what the spiritual significance of their words.

Most often, our trials are accompanied by temptations. We think that it will give us an escape from our trials, but really that sin will lead us to even more destruction in our lives. Too often, we find ourselves focused on and investing in the things of this world, to the detriment of our focus and investment into the things of God. As a result, we are actually training our affections toward earthly treasures rather than eternal ones. In this passage, Jesus teaches us that we can train our thoughts and affections toward eternal treasures if we take the time to invest in them over what this world has to offer. And the truth is, we can only serve one master, God or earthly treasures.

Transitioning from talking about true righteousness and how much higher God’s standard is, Jesus begins to talk about the motive of His followers as they do their righteous deeds. The hypocrites of that day would parade their righteous deeds around trying to be seen by others. This is the kind of attitude Jesus condemns, as He points His followers to the rewarding life of living for the audience of ONE.

Yet again, Jesus takes parts of the law that the Jews had changed or reinterpreted to selfishly love themselves and spite other people. And He tells them that those who follow Him are called to a higher way of living. A radical love toward people. A love that endures insults without retaliation. A love that forfeits personal rights at time to serve other people. A love that cares more about being a blessing than keeping up appearances. And a love that goes out of its way to do good toward and pray for those that willingly oppose us.

Sexual sin has become so pervasive in our world today, that it has completely affected the way many think of others and of themselves. And we often think we are okay if we haven’t actually committed some kind of sinful, sexual act with another person. But Jesus gets to the very heart of the matter and tells us that even the attitude and act of objectification is to commit sexual sin. As Jesus begins to contrast between external righteousness and internal righteousness, he points to the law of “Thou shalt not kill.” And as He gets to the heart of the matter, we see that even the root of murder, anger, is considered sin by Jesus. Apparently, based upon Jesus’ words and actions, some people thought His mission might be to overthrow or destroy the Old Testament law and prophets. Jesus very clearly says that he will not abolish the law, but rather will fulfill it. Then He points to living a righteous life. The biggest point He makes is that true righteousness can never be found in trying to focus on external deeds. True righteousness begins in the heart and then translates into holy living.

Paul signs off the letter to the Ephesians with an admonition of grace to all those that love Jesus in sincerity. Sometimes, as Christians, we can get really comfortable in this world, feeling at home here. But our home is not here. Our home is in heaven. This place, although we may not often think of it this way, is a battleground where spiritual warfare is constantly taking place. And we find ourselves in the middle of this battle. In this passage, Paul helps us understand how we can be prepared for the battle by recognizing our enemy, and relying on the strength and resources given to us to overcome the enemy.

In today’s passage, Paul continues the thought of putting on the new man. As a Christian, you are no longer to live like the world or to obey the lusts of your flesh. We are to obey the Holy Spirit’s guidance in our lives. We are a new creature. We have a new nature. We are under new management. And as such, we are called to live a certain way. In today’s passage, we see Paul implore the Ephesian believers to make sure that they live differently from the world around them. In a place like Ephesus, where sexual immorality and carnality abounded, Christians who lived like Jesus would shine as a stark difference to the darkness in which the other Gentiles walked. So too, if we live like Jesus, our lives should and will stand out in stark difference from the unbelieving world around us.

The first thing that Paul addresses after reminding the Ephesians of their gospel identity is unity in the church. There are several ways that we can strive for unity. But Paul specifically hones in on the fact that unity flows from our heavenly calling, unity grows in a humble community, and unity knows a hopeful foundation.

Paul finishes his thought that began in chapter 3 and says that he is praying for the Ephesian believers to really comprehend all of the truths that he has written to them about. He doesn’t pray that they would DO anything. He prays that they would KNOW something. And ultimately, what he points to is that all that they are in Christ is an identity that cannot be destroyed because the Spirit of God is strengthening us, the love of God is grounding us, and the power of God is working in us.

As Paul writes to the Ephesians, he takes a moment to write about the suffering he is facing by being imprisoned. But it isn’t a complaint. It isn’t even a prayer request. Instead, he tells them that his suffering is a wonderful opportunity to fulfill his calling. Through this passage, we learn that because of our gospel identity, we can see that our hardships have a purpose to dispense and display the grace of God.

As we close out our study of the book of Jonah, we find out that Jonah is not happy about the repentance of the Ninevites. In fact, he is angry with God because of it. But again, in His grace, God takes the time to teach Jonah about His gracious character. From it, we learn that we can’t set parameters on the grace of God. It is unlimited and unconditional. Furthermore, God desires that we would display this same grace to others as well!

As we begin our series in the book of Jonah, we start to realize that this is much more than just a story about a man getting swallowed by a fish. This is a book where God is revealing Himself to us in an amazing way! And in this first chapter, we see that we can run, but we can't hide from God's grace. It is always pursuing and intervening in our lives to bring us back to Him.

Coming to the end of the book of Acts, it seems that the ending is not quite what should be expected. However, in this message, we unpack the story that Luke was telling us the entire time. And through it, we find ourselves challenged to be a part of the continuing work of the gospel in peoples’ lives today!

As we continue tracking the journey of Paul, we see faithfulness on display. Paul, despite his circumstances, just remained a faithful servant of the Lord by faithfully serving people. And of course, the greatest display of faithfulness in Paul’s life is the faithfulness of God! God provides for Paul’s needs and keeps His promises to him as well! Through the message, we are challenged to remain faithful as we watch the faithfulness of our Savior unfold in our lives.

Paul is finally on his way to Rome! However, it is going to take a little while to get there. As he begins to get escorted to Italy, the winds continuously come up against the ship, and ultimately a huge storm overtakes them! And yet, in the middle of this chaos, Paul declares that he is completely okay with these circumstances, because he has a promise from God that he will get to Rome, and he believes that God will keep that promise! Through this passage, we draw parallels spiritually to how we can have that same confidence in the storms of life.

Now Paul, after Festus declares Paul innocent, has a chance to stand before Herod Agrippa the Second. And of course, Paul takes this opportunity to not only defend himself against the Jews accusations, but also to share the gospel! He clearly tells Agrippa who he was before meeting Jesus and how Christ has completely changed him. When he finishes, he gives Agrippa an invitation to be saved, but both he and Festus respond negatively.
Scripture: Acts 26
A new governor takes seat in Judaea, and the Jews try to convince him to put the apostle Paul to death. But during the hearing, Paul appeals to see Caesar, and Festus realizes that Paul is not guilty of anything worthy of death. And we see Paul standing blameless before all accusations. In fact, the only thing Festus could find Paul was guilty of was believing in Jesus! In this sermon, we see the importance of living a blameless life.

When Paul gets to Caesarea to stand before Felix, he finds himself being accused of things that aren’t true by an orator that the Jews have brought in to make their case. And yet, with a clean conscience, and a bold passion to share truth, Paul proves his innocence. In turn, he has the opportunity to share the gospel with Felix and his wife. But instead of making a decision, Felix puts it off for a more convenient time.

Things don’t seem to let up for Paul at all while he is in Jerusalem. More dissension stirs up at every turn, and his life is in danger. He ends up having to be snuck out of Jerusalem to get to safety. But through it all, we can see God’s providential hand at work!

When Paul gets to Jerusalem, the hardships that he was told were ahead come full speed. People have misunderstood and misrepresented his teachings, and a mob comes up against him to beat him and imprison him. And yet, through all of it, Paul doesn’t complain. He views all of what is taking place as an opportunity to share his story of how Jesus changed him. As we look at his example, we are challenged to share our gospel story with others as well!
Scripture: Acts 21:17-22:1
As Paul makes his way toward Jerusalem, he is consistently shown by God that there are many hardships awaiting him at Jerusalem. But none of this deters him from accomplishing the will of God. He is ready to die, if need be, for the name of Christ! Through this message we ask ourselves this question: Knowing that persecution is ahead of us, will we determine to still continue moving forward in the will of God?
Scripture: Acts 21:1-16
To wrap up the 3rd missionary journey of Paul, we see him go throughout the regions of Macedonia and Achaia, all the way to Greece, and back. As he is about to head toward Jerusalem, he calls the leaders of the church at Ephesus, and gives them some parting words to remember what Jesus said - “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

As Luke is writing about Paul’s third missionary journey, he really keys in on the area of Ephesus, a place where Paul spent almost 3 years in! And in the time spent there, we see a lot take place. Through every event, we see the supremacy of Jesus. Jesus is better in every way! And that still rings true today! Jesus is better!
Scripture: Acts 19
Today, we key in on a married couple who are often overlooked as just friends of Paul. But this couple actually had quite the impact in the world for the gospel! Tracking their journey through Scripture, we see that they were just everyday people who lived with eternity in view. They continuously gave of themselves and invested in other people. In the same way, God desires to use each of us as we invest in others!
Scripture: Acts 18:18-28
As we come to Acts 18, we see the apostle Paul in a state of discouragement and fear. He needed to be encouraged! He needed God’s sustaining grace to pour over him in this time of weakness. And he found encouragement through the words of God, the working of God, and the people of God. In the same way, when we are discouraged, we can find encouragement in God and our community of faith.
Scripture: Acts 18:1-17
Continuing in our series through the book of Acts, we see Paul on the second missionary journey. No doubt, he was tired from all that transpired in Philippi, Thessalonica, and Berea. And yet, when he gets to Athens, he doesn’t take a break! He sees the city given over to idolatry and philosophies and it stirs his heart. However, the apostle Paul didn’t allow it to stay there. It moved him to action. And as a result, we see him preach to the entire city a poignant message of salvation in the one true God, Jesus.
Scripture: Acts 17:16-34
We learn a lot about Jesus through the Bible, especially in the gospels. But there is one portion of Scripture where Jesus gives us a glimpse of His heart. And when He does, He reveals that His heart is meek and lowly. It is gentle and humble toward us. And because of this, despite man's doubts and rejection of Him, He invites all to come to Him. He invites us, not to get something from us, but to give us something--true peace and rest.

As we come to Acts 16, we continue on the second missionary journey. And it seems that every step of the way, there are problems that arise. Yet, to Paul and his team, none of these were problems at all! They were opportunities for God to work. In the same way, when we view our lives through the lens of the gospel, we will see our problems, not just as obstacles to hurdle over, but as opportunities for God to work in and through us!

As we continue in our series "Unstoppable Gospel", we see Paul and Silas leaving on the second missionary journey. Along the way, God adds to the team, and directs them away from a few places. And ultimately, they find themselves right where God wanted them, where a woman named Lydia, along with her entire household, gets saved.
Scripture: Acts 16:1-15
As we come to the second half of Acts 15, in our series "Unstoppable Gospel", we see that there are some directives given to Gentile believers to help with unity between them and Jewish believers. Then we see Paul and Barnabas come to a disagreement that splits their missionary team into two. From both of these instances, we learn that the goal is to be unified...but that does not necessarily mean that we will be uniform.
Scripture: Acts 15:23-41
As we continue in the book of Acts, we see that some teachers start to tell the believers in Antioch that they cannot truly be saved unless they also get circumcised. However, by the end of the chapter, this matter is completely settled based upon God's Word and God's working in the life of Gentiles. From this story, we find hope and peace in knowing that God does not accept us based upon OUR work, but upon the finished work of Jesus. And that is something to celebrate!

In today's message, we are encouraged by the example of Paul and Barnabas, who went through so much opposition and hardship on the first missionary journey. And yet, they did not quit. They knew there was gospel ministry to be done that God had called them to. Through their journey, we find truths for us to live by in order to remain faithful through tribulation.

Continuing in our series "Unstoppable Gospel", we come to a point where gospel expansion happens, not only as a result of God's providence. But it is now happening because of purposeful action from the church. And we see from Acts 13, a great example of what our role is as a church, and as individual believers, in God's mission of seeing people saved all around the world!
Scripture: Acts 13
This is a message that our Pastor preached at our sending church, Moses Lake Baptist Church. This passage is mostly known as the story of the prodigal son. However, in this message, we see that the story is actually about two sons! And each of them saw their relationship with their father in a wrong way. Through the sermon, Pastor Micah helps us to see how we OFTEN define our relationship with our heavenly Father, and from the story shows us how we SHOULD define our relationship with God.
As we begin our series "Unstoppable Gospel" in the next portion of the book of Acts, we see the church at Jerusalem in a fearful situation. Herod has killed one of their leaders, and is ready to kill another. But instead of questioning God about it all, they rest in His presence and pray. And through this account, we see that God desires to use every one of our situations for the sake of the gospel.

In our final message of the series "Scattered," we come to a new church getting started in a city called Antioch. This was a church that had the hand of God all over it because of their focus on the gospel. And in this church, we see a perfect example of what God can do in and through a church that just keeps that gospel as its focus.
Scripture: Acts 11:19-30
Coming from Caesarea, where Cornelius and many Gentiles received Christ, Peter and those with him were excited for all that God was doing. But as they come to Jerusalem, they find out pretty quickly that not everyone is enthused by what has taken place. But although he was met with a certain amount of criticism, we see Peter respond with such grace, humility, and love, while giving the truth of God at work.
Scripture: Acts 11:1-18
As we come to Acts 10, we see that God intersects Peter's with a man named Cornelius, and many other Gentiles. For a Jewish man like Peter, this would be seen as something that was wrong. However, because of how God worked in the lives of these two men, we see that God was opening the door of the gospel to go far beyond just the Jews, but that all the world would be able to come to know Jesus.

As we get to the next portion in our series "Scattered", we see Peter go on a little ministry tour. Along the way, we are introduced to a lady named Tabitha, who was used greatly of God. Through her example, we see how God can use us if we will simply make ourselves available.

Continuing in the book of Acts, we see that Saul went through some let downs very early in his Christian life. But he did not view them as setbacks. He saw them as God working in and through his life. When life is letting you down, God is at work in you and in others.

Continuing in our series "Scattered," we come to the story where Saul of Tarsus meet Jesus on the Damascus road. His encounter with Jesus brought him physical blindness for a time. But that's not all that changed in his life. Encountering Jesus completely changed everything about Saul!
Scripture: Acts 9:1-22
As we begin our new series "Scattered," we begin to see an expansion of the gospel message being proclaimed outside of Jerusalem. What the enemies of God tried to use to squash the message of the gospel, God used to the further advancement of the gospel. Despite their circumstances, the early church remained focused on seeing the gospel proclaimed to others. In this message, we are challenged to live with that same gospel intention. May we not allow our own circumstances, prejudices, or our fear of how people may respond to keep us from living out and sharing the gospel.
