There were rumblings that Covid 19 was coming but life was going on like nobody really cared and then everything changed for me when I got a 5 day headache.
After 5 years of agonizing pain we finally have an answer but not until after a little more suspense and a few more massive headaches.
The headaches never got better and as mine and my family's life spiraled downhill over 5 years we searched for answers from several different sources but always got the same result.
When I started getting headaches in 2008 I had no idea they would come and go for 5 years. The journey was agonizing not just for me but for everyone that was close to me.
As you get older you start to really understand your own symptoms and when there is an issue with your shunt. In college though with only a couple of revisions I was still learning about myself. In this instance I had to lean on my doctor for advice and for the first time I learned that doctors are not always right.
Growing up with Hydrocephalus and being active was not always fun. My conservative doctor and strict parents made me wear a helmet whenever I was involved in any sport or if there was a possibility of contact during physical activities with friends. The struggle to be like everyone else while playing was real.
The shunt can break at the worst of times and during my senior year in High School that was one of those cases. It does not care if you have a baseball game or even a season. It can take out either one.
