Have you ever noticed how most productivity advice doesn’t work for women?
That’s because you’re not a man who has a spouse at home who takes care of all the things. You’re juggling your business, your career, and your family. It’s a lot, and no wonder why things slip through the cracks despite your best intentions to get it all done.
When you treat everything as an urgent priority, you lose all sense of what truly matters. This podcast is here to help you change all of that. One week at a time.
Unlike other shows about productivity, only The Productivity Shift helps women in charge (in their biz, at work, at home, etc) take back their time and use it to make progress on what matters most to them.
Each week, Elise Enriquez, a productivity dork and certified life coach, guides you to redefine what productivity is to you. You’ll get strategies and insights you can implement right away. Lighten your load and focus on what’s most important so you can create a life and business that is meaningful to you.

Ep 94 - Hard Truth: an app won't save you
Introduction:
Today we're tackling the myth of those magical productivity apps. You know that meme with Winnie the Pooh and the salad? Well, we've all been there, hoping for instant change. But, here's the scoop: apps aren't a quick fix. Let's dive in.
The App Illusion:
Imagine if a single app could transform your life? Sounds dreamy, but the reality is different. While apps can help, they won't work miracles. True productivity takes commitment and consistent effort.
Peeling the Layers:
Productivity issues often hide deeper problems like lack of clarity and mindset. Apps might flag these, but real change requires addressing the roots. They're tools, not therapists.
Sustainability & Setbacks:
Quick fixes are like sparks; they fade fast. Real change, however, is a bonfire of resilience. Apps won't guide you through setbacks, but we're here to help you bounce back.
Personalization is Key:
One-size-fits-all? Nah, we're not about that. You're unique, and your productivity should be too. Apps can adapt, but they can't read minds. Personalized strategies are where it's at.
The GYST Community:
Meet the GYST Community - where clarity, communication, and consistency meet. Apps play a role, but the magic comes from making progress on what truly matters. Join the journey.
Virtual Open House:
Exciting news! I'm throwing a virtual open house. Discover how the GYST Community can transform your productivity journey. Get the deets at EliseEnriquez.com/OpenHouse.
Closing Thoughts:
Before you go app-crazy, remember: apps are tools, not saviors. It's how you use them that counts.
And here are the links to the apps I mentioned at the end of the episode:

*Decoding Overwhelm: Navigating Circumstantial vs. Unintentional Strain*
Welcome to the Productivity Shift Podcast, a realm where practicality meets empowerment. Hosted by Elise Enriquez, this episode uncovers the intricacies of overwhelm by dissecting two prevalent "strains" – circumstantial and unintentional.
*Unmasking Overwhelm: The Fundamental Difference*
Let's dive into the heart of the matter – overwhelm comes in two distinct flavors:
Circumstantial Overwhelm: This type stems from external circumstances that demand our full attention, such as health crises, life events, and transitions.
Unintentional Overwhelm: Born from a lack of clarity and boundaries, it's the result of taking on more than we can handle, inadvertently overburdening ourselves.
*Unveiling Overwhelm in Action*
Within my GYST Productivity Community, two participants perfectly epitomized these forms of overwhelm:
The first, grappling with circumstantial overwhelm, was entangled in the throes of life circumstances that required immediate action.
The second, facing unintentional overwhelm, was ensnared by choices that blurred priorities and left them struggling to manage an ever-expanding to-do list.
*Finding Freedom from Overwhelm*
The road to overcoming overwhelm involves tailored strategies for both categories:
Circumstantial Overwhelm: Pause, identify the essentials that are non-negotiable, and relinquish non-essentials for now. Regain control by focusing on what truly matters, much like a community member navigating health challenges did.
Unintentional Overwhelm: Hit the pause button, realign your priorities, and exercise the power of saying no. Channel your energy toward tasks with meaningful impact, breaking free from the grip of unintentional overwhelm.
*Guided Solutions and Your Path Forward*
Amid the hustle and bustle of life, a practical solution beckons – the "What's Your Problem" workshop on August 23rd at 11:30 AM Pacific Time. Visit EliseEnriquez.com/problem for an immersive experience that offers tailored solutions to conquer overwhelm.
In this interplay of strategic insights and actionable steps, remember: you hold the power to redefine productivity and transform your life.

Are there things that your parents or influential adult said to you over and over again that you just didn't get...until you finally got it?
My mom always talked about making choices that would lead to better choices and I never got it. I just rolled my eyes.
Then one day, it clicked.
We all have some sort of expertise which means we end up saying the same stuff all the time. And that's our job as experts…to repeat ourselves to the people who want to learn from us.
Well, this episode is the second part of a list of seven (7) things that my GYST Community members say that I say all the time. (To get the first three, check out episode 89.)
So, here are the last 4 things I apparently say all the time and my reasoning behind why I say them:
Which one of these can you focus on this week? Head on over to TheProductivityShift on Instagram and comment on Monday's weekly shift post.

Back in June, I released episode 83 of the podcast where I shared the top five things I say to my clients all the time. Then I decided to check in with my GYST Productivity Community members to see what they had to say about this since they're the ones that I hang out with the most.
Well, they kind of disagreed with my initial list. Of the seven things that they said, only one of them overlapped with the top five that I shared in episode 83. So this episode is me saying, "Okay, maybe I got that wrong".
Here are the 7 things that my clients said I say to them all the time:
In this episode, I cover the first 3:
(Look out for the next episode in which I will cover the last 4.)Which ONE of those three could you focus on this week? Head on over to The ProductivityShift on Instagram and find ‘The Weekly Shift’ post to share which one you'll try this week.

I don't know about you, but I get inspired when I talk to other women business owners who are taking charge in the world. These women are intentional. They get clear about what they want, they communicate it to who matters most, and they set up systems to support consistent progress toward what they want.
In this episode, I spoke to a woman just like like this. Amy Traugh is a business coach, the founder and CEO of the Moms on a Mission community, and the host of The Motivated Mompreneur podcast.
She has made it her mission to change the narrative that you have to choose between your business and your role as a mom. She helps business owners gain the clarity, consistency, and confidence to create more profit with less hustle.
Amy has such great energy and cares so much about empowering women business owners with kids. There were so many things we touched on in such a short time. I had like 10 things to highlight but I boiled it down to 3:
You can stop checking all of the societal boxes anytime. Create that whitespace so you can pause and make sure you are living the life you really want.
You get to decide what success looks like for you.
If you are looking for a community of business owners who are also raising kids, be sure to go to themomsonamission.com to learn more about what Amy's doing. You'll also find Amy's Small Business Resource Guide there too.

Fair warning, I might possibly offend some of you in this episode. It’s for a good reason, though, so I hope you listen all the way to the end.
Summer is a great time to get a bunch of reading done, especially if you are going on vacation and are going to have some time to yourself. Or you've already decided to check out a little bit early on some of the summer afternoons and sit out in the nice weather to read a book. I'm all for reading a ton of fun books.
I become unimpressed with the volume of books people read when they are about personal growth, business growth, et cetera. Basically, books that are categorized as self-help books.
I know people who take great pride in listening to 2 or 3 audiobooks a month or reading two business books a month. They consume the book and then throw it aside for the next one without taking any action based on what they just read. I'm not saying that every book has to inspire a complete change in your life or business, but why read the book if you're not going to do something with it?
In this episode, I'm challenging you to take a different approach to personal and business growth books with the help of a great article written by one of my favorite authors, James Clear - "7 Ways to Retain More of Every Book You Read"I pulled out my top 3 of those 7:
So for your weekly shift, I'm challenging you to pick a personal or business growth book you've already read and still own and read it again.

Happy Independence day...week!
For those of you outside the US, our independence day is on July 4th. On July 4th, 1776 the US declared our independence from British rule and broke away from an oppressive system and asserted the rights and freedoms of the American colonies.
This was obviously a pivotal moment in the history of the United States and I'm wondering if that could inspire you to create your own pivotal moment. What could you declare your independence from?
For those of you who are new here, when I talk about productivity, I'm talking about making progress on what matters most to you while still being present to the people, experiences, and opportunities that fulfill you. It's about setting up systems to support the life and business you want, and sometimes there are things that can get in the way of that. Things that maybe you want to declare your independence from.
I've got three ideas for you in this episode so you can take back your time and use it for what matters most to you. The three things that I see as big hurdles to productivity and you could declare your independence from are::
And I also just want to say, it's okay if you're not ready to declare your independence from all three of these things. I want you to just think of one.
Which one of these three things are you going to work on declaring your independence from over the next week?
Head on over to @theproductivityshift on Instagram and look for the Weekly Shift post and tell me which one you will focus on.

When you don't have a boss to report to you might not check in enough on your progress throughout the year.
Here are the questions we use to do a Mid-Year Reset in the GYST Productivity Community:
First, reflect.
:: What's gone well over the past few months?
:: What was your part in making those things happen?
:: What didn't go so well and why?
Next, get clarity.
:: What do you want to move forward over the next three to six months?
:: Who do you need to be to do these things?
:: Who needs to know about these things?
Finally, take action.
:: Identify next actions for your top 1-3 things you want to make progress on over the next few months.
I created a PDF you can use to capture all of your answers to these questions.
Just reach out via email or Instagram DM if you want a copy of the PDF.

"If you stay in denial you're gonna get burned" ~ Elise
This episode goes out to all the women in charge at home. If you are the default parent and are running a business, this is the episode for you.
And don't tune out if you aren't a parent or you're not running a business. There is still good stuff in here, but this episode was definitely inspired by the moms I know who are running businesses with kids who are about to hit or are already on summer break because that's what I’m talking about - how you can make summer break work for you this year.
You see, if you’re still in denial about the reality of your summer responsibilities, I hate to break it to you, but summer break really is coming. Heck, for some of you, it's already here.
This can mean kids at home that you are going to have to somehow keep occupied and support. Or kids at camps that you're gonna have to transport to all these events that'll be different from the schedule that you were following for school and daycare. Vacations that you have coming up, whether they're on your own or with kids.
Maybe for you, it’s adjusting your schedule to make room for the outdoor seasonal things you love doing.
This could be a very busy time of year for some, and for others, things slow right down. So, what do you do about it?
Here are 3 things I’d like you to consider;
What do you want your summer to look like? Who do you need to communicate this to? What systems do you need to put in place to support this? If you need help getting clear on this, then join us for the What's Your Problem? workshop on June 28th. It’s a workshop where you'll learn, identify next steps, and have time to ask me anything you want that will help you move forward. Head on over to eliseenriquez.com/problem to sign up.

"Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them." David AllenDo you ever get tired of saying the same shit over and over again to someone? I think that happens to all of us every now and again.
After 14-plus years of coaching, there are definitely things over the years that I find myself saying all the time. However, I don't get sick of saying them because after I say them, the coolest things happen.
In this episode, I share the top 5 from that list of things and give examples of what I mean when I say them, plus the kinds of that tend to happen when I ask them:
So, which one of these 5 things will you experiment with this week? Tell me all about it – go find the weekly shift post on Instagram or Facebook @theproductivityshift.

Hey there. Would you like some practical tools to help you with the 3 big stressors around the holidays: overwhelm, finances, and lack of time?
“Forgiveness is not about changing the past; it is about shifting our perception around what happened so that we can be present today, right here and create the future we desire.”
~ Brenda ReissFor my avid listeners who are listening to this episode the week that it goes live you may have just celebrated Thanksgiving.
And sometimes being around our close family and friends can bring up some tough issues, possibly some resentments even. And this could be your chance to make Christmas even easier by recognizing those resentments and seeing if you are ready to do some forgiving.
This is exactly why I asked Brenda Reiss to join me in this episode.
Brenda is a 2-time author, speaker, podcast host and a sought-after Forgiveness Coach who guides her cherished clients from being stuck in shame, resentment, and self-sabotage to feeling freer, more expanded, and ready to share themselves and their passions with the world.
When she is not providing compassionate guidance to help her clients create more abundance, clarity of purpose, and freedom in their lives, you can find her hiking, playing with grandkids, snuggling with her fur babies, or reading a book (or two) to expand her mind, soul and business.
Brenda left a Question of the Week for you: In what area of your life are you feeling stuck? Could there be resentment or unforgiveness hiding there?
If, in answering that question, you find resentment and unforgiveness there, you can check in and see if you are ready to forgive. Brenda shared some signs that you might be ready:
If you aren't sure if you are ready to forgive, check out Brenda's Podcast: "Forgive Yourself"

When this episode airs it will be Thanksgiving week in the United States and, unsurprisingly, I'm talking gratitude…gratitude pitfalls, in fact.
We all know that gratitude is important, and according to Psychology Today, when they did a study of gratitude journaling, people who tracked their gratitude once a week were happier after six weeks. So a quick journal session capturing some gratitude once a week made them happier. How cool is that?!
Having said that, though, I want you to be careful with gratitude.
I know that sounds ridiculously silly! It’s like saying, "I want you to be careful with butterknives."
Gratitude seems like a pretty safe thing. Maybe it seems like a pretty dull thing too, just like butter knives.
Just hear me out, because there are lots of tools out there for happiness and fulfillment, and it's important not to rely too much on one tool.
So, in honor of thanksgiving, I touch on these 3 gratitude pitfalls:
And show you how you can instead:
So, for our question of the week;
Pick ONE thing you are grateful for right now. What are 3-5 reasons you are grateful for it?I can't wait to hear what you are grateful for and why. Please share it with me over on Instagram @productivitybreakthrough.
“What is success? What does it look like? What does it feel like? What does it taste like? What does it sound like? Let's dive into who you get to be and let's start being her right now.” ~ Mindi HuebnerHave you heard me talk about Betty before?Betty is the name my wife gave to the unhelpful voice in her head. I haven't named my voice because I don't hear her as clearly. She's a LOT like me. She sounds like me...but she's the opposite of me in her lack of optimism, drive, kindness, and can-do-it attitude. Maybe I should name her Bizarro Elise.(Ignore that if you're not a Seinfeld or Superman fan.)Anyway, our brains are powerful and sometimes we need help channeling that power to be more helpful in our lives.Enter Mindi Huebner.
Mindi is an Intuitive Mindset Mastery Coach, an IBCP certified NLP practitioner, Health, Life and Success coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist. She knows that rewiring your brain is the key to unlocking your magic so that you can create a soul-aligned business and extraordinary life. Her number one mission is helping women to reveal and release their limiting beliefs and embrace the confident, wildly successful humans they already are on the inside.
There were so many great nuggets in our discussion, and here are just a few of my takeaways:
Your brain deletes, distorts and generalizes based on what you believe
You are always winning the game you're playing. Are you playing a game you wanna win?
Start looking at some habits in your life that aren't serving you. And then you can reverse engineer that habit to uncover the limiting belief that's getting in your way
And now for our question of the week:
What is ONE way you will show yourself some compassion this week?I can't wait to hear all about it.
One more thing...if you know of someone that would benefit from hearing this episode, please share it. Send them a link, post it to your social media spots, whatever. It would mean a LOT to me.

On October first, one of my buddies posted a picture to FB. It was of a Christmas wreath and tree display outside his grocery store. ON OCTOBER FIRST.
He was like "Gimme a break!"... and I couldn't like his sentiments fast enough. I hadn't even started working on my nieces’ Halloween costumes yet. Don't try to sell me a holiday wreath in October!
So, don't get mad at me, because we haven't passed the stuffing or sliced the pumpkin pie yet...but let's talk about the December holidays.
More specifically, let's explore how simple systems can support you through what can be a crazy time of the year.I recorded this as a behind-the-scenes episode to give you a little glimpse into the stuff I put in place to make my life a little easier during the holidays. A way to reduce some of the stress.I gave 3 simple systems that I use to keep my holiday season organized and stress-free, and even added one bonus system;
And one last thing…that bonus…take stock of your gift wrap supplies right now and replenish them immediately.
And that brings us to our question of the week: What is one simple system you could put in place this week to make the holidays a little easier?
If you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, be sure to reach out to a trusted health professional to get the support you need.
Sometimes what matters most is our mental health. I mean, it always matters, but sometimes we need to prioritize it above other things.
In this episode, I had an open conversation with a couple of my coaching peers, Mari Wuellner and Darci Daniels, about anxiety and depression.
Darci is mom to a teenage daughter and @moose.the.corgi(Moose the Corgi), a daughter, sister, friend and coach at darcidanielscoaching.com. She loves to work with people who are either entrepreneurs or in charge of their own destiny and schedules.
Mari Wuellner is a mom of 3 and a wife. She also owns an insurance agency and a coaching practice at mw-coach.com. She loves to help women live a life of purpose. Mari is also the host of The Living on Purpose Podcast.
Mari, Darci and I each shared our personal approaches to the questions;
Now, you will clearly hear how different our approaches to dealing with mental health struggles are. None of us are medical or mental health experts.
So, if you think you might have anxiety and/or depression, please reach out to your trusted medical or mental health provider to find an approach to manage your anxiety and/or depression that will work best for you.
And now, let me ask you a question…
Question of the week: How are you feeling today?Let me know your answer over on Instagram.

I know that I've always been able to get more clear about things when I am talking with or am guided to clarity by someone else.
If you are someone who needs help with this kind of thing, accept that and give that to yourself.
If you’re listening to this episode when it first airs, then you know we are smack dab in the heart of fall. For some reason, this time of year is when I really start thinking about what I want at a bigger level.
Now, I am an Enneagram type nine, and that can mean that it can be very easy for me to defer getting what I want until everybody else around me has what they want or need. Or maybe I won't pursue something at all if I'm worried that pursuing it will disrupt things in my life and the lives of others. In fact, what I can do instead is just merge with other people's wants and visions and goals and help them achieve those, and then I can find myself feeling unsatisfied, frustrated, and resentful for not making my own thing a priority.
And for the longest time, there was something that I really wanted in my life. Come on over and hop in a time machine with me to go back to the fall of 2012, because, in this episode, I share about:
Here’s my invitation to you as the trees are letting go of their leaves and are going into a season of building up strength for what's going to happen next:
And with that in mind, let me ask you this question of the week…What would it look like to live a life you love? And I mean truly look; like, draw a picture. Write out a story of your future self. Get specific, and then watch for the paths that might lead you there.
If you are feeling stuck when it comes to a collaboration you are in, feel free to schedule a quick consult with me.
One of the things I love most about running my own business is that I get to decide what I wanna do and how I wanna do it.
Now of course I always want to make sure that what I'm doing is in line with where my business is going and the values that I hold.
And one of my values is around collaboration.Even though life and work can feel lonely at times, none of us are ever truly in this alone. So I thought it would be fun to talk about what makes for kick ass collaborations and I did that by doing something a little different.
In this episode, I interview three different people that I collaborate with to make my life and my work happen. And really, they make my work and life better. My podcast manager Rachael Sanya, my GYST Community Coordinator, Carrie Kelleher, and of course my wife Kim each shared three things that make our collaboration work so well.
Here is a quick summary of the what they all had to say:
Question of the Week:What makes your best collaborations work so well?As always, head on over to Instagram or Facebook and let me know.
Hey there, dear listener. If you want to see if GYST would be a good thing for you, head on over to eliseenriquez.com/GYST to learn more and to schedule a chat with me.
==========================================I haven't done a straight-up how-to episode in a while. So I thought we'd get into some step-by-step stuff in this episode.
I have a community I support through training sessions, goal-setting, group coaching, and productivity co-working sessions.
During the productivity co-working sessions, I ask people to claim what they'll be working on when it comes to getting their systems current.
In one such co-working session, one of my GYSTers said "I have a bunch of cans I've been kicking down the road. I'm going to take a look at those and decide what's really going on."
I love that she saw this for herself and decided to focus on addressing these things she'd been putting off.
In fact, by the end of our co-working session, she had reprioritized some things and deleted a bunch of them. Once she gave them her attention, she realized it was stuff she really didn't need or want to do.
This made me think about you.
Do you have some cans you are kicking down the road?Well, in this podcast episode, I will be walking you through what to do with those cans.
I will start by walking you through four(4) basic steps to get you started, and what to do with the information you uncover.
Before you get started, answer this question for me.
Question of the week: What is the can you are kicking down the road? What are you gonna do about it?Remember to hop on Facebook or Instagram and look for the Question of the Week post to respond.

“Your beloved that you choose is perfect for opening up your unhealed wounds, but they have very little skill for healing them. If you take responsibility to know what your own childhood wounds are, know what the needs are underneath those wounds and, how to get those needs met - both by self meeting your needs and clearly communicating your needs to your beloved - AND you're willing to teach your beloved those skills, that's when that person becomes more whole and complete themselves.” ~ Gaby SundraI believe that relationships are part of what makes our lives beautiful and worth living. So why is it that we often wait until they’re in crisis mode before we even think of proactively doing anything to help keep them alive and healthy?
Just like it is with our mental health, it’s good to have a plan to support the health of a romantic relationship and critical to have things in place to help when times are tough.
This is exactly what I'm talking about in this episode with my guest, Gaby Sundra, the Love Trifecta Coach, bringing more play, peace, and passion to relationships worldwide.
While Gaby has a Master's degree in Education, Counseling, and Guidance and 25 years of coaching and teaching experience, it is her own “messy-to-magical” marriage that allows her relationship guidance to be so spot on. Her innovative methods at For Better Love are fiercely forward-focused, gently shifting any negativity into concrete action steps. And you know I like that, dear listener. She’s a wiz at supporting couples in not just digging themselves out of a relationship ditch, but cultivating a couple culture of "aiming for awesome".
Gaby and I talked about:
She also left us with a Question of the week: What do you want? What do you want? Most of us default to focusing on who is to blame for what we do not want. Focus on what you want, find the overlap and be partners in THAT. True up to your shared vision. What do you want? How could you true up to that positive and empowering vision?

Back in August, I ran a free week-long challenge called Dare to Prioritize. In this challenge I guided people through a daily exercise for a week to get everything off their mind and prioritized so they could, most importantly, take action to make progress on their TOP 1-3 priorities each day.
Part of these daily sessions during the challenge is to do a brain dump to get everything off your mind. This is critical because you can't prioritize what's not known. So you gotta get it all out of your head.
AND the brain dump isn't enough. In fact, if you don't pair your brain dump with a process to identify action and a system to hold everything, the relief a brain dump brings is often short-lived.
This is what happened to my wife, Kim, who was in the challenge.
She allowed me to share her struggle with one of my communities and then agreed to let me share it with you here. So this episode is a debrief Kim and I shared after she sat down with me for about 15 minutes to help her make her brain dump more actionable.
My main takeaway;
1 - A braindump is a great way to move forward, but again, it's not enough to keep you from a constant cycle of overwhelm.
2 - Leading and lagging indicators are the key to progress. Really, it's just being clear about the results you are trying to create and the actions you need to take to get there.
3 - Kim, like all of you, is brilliant at what she does. AND sometimes we are too close to our own stuff to see our way forward. It can help to talk it out...so do that.
Question of the Week:What action can you take consistently to make progress on your most important goal?
Let me know over on Instagram.

This is a What Matters Most episode, where you get to be the fly on the wall of a coaching session. The goal of these sessions is to help someone get clear on what matters most for them RIGHT NOW and identify what action they can take to make progress on that.
Meet Kris.
Kris is a renaissance woman…or at least to me, she is.
Professionally, she is a freelance writer, audiobook narrator/producer, voice actor, and actor.
Personally, Kris is in a committed relationship, has two dogs, and cares for her 92-year-old mom. She manages her mom's caregiver, home and land upkeep, and is the person on call when emergencies happen.
Kris is such a pro at what she does and is clear about what she wants. But with so many ways to get there, her focus and energy were dispersed.
In fact, the week before Kris and I sat down to chat, she had just spent the week managing all the aspects of a medical emergency with her mom. Thankfully by the time we spoke, her mom was doing better, but Kris was feeling like she had lost a week and was not feeling productive.
So during our chat, we found ONE thing she could make progress on for now— pitching herself.
Something from our session that stood out to me was the little lies we tell ourselves about productivity.
Lies like…
I see these lies surface over and over again for people...heck even for me. And all this got me thinking of a question I want to ask you…
Question of the week: What is one lie you are telling yourself about productivity and how is it hurting you?
Head on over to @productivitybreakthrough on Instagram or Elise Enriquez Coaching and Consulting on Facebook - find the question of the week post and share your answer.
And remember, if you want to be on an upcoming What Matters Most episode, head over to eliseenriquez.com/whatmattersmost to apply for a spot.
Hey there! If you are listening to this episode the week that it's released, I want you to know that this is your last chance to join my productivity masterclass, Stop Wasting Your Time, where I'll be sharing with you the three ways that you can stop wasting time and make more out of this precious life of yours.
If you’ve been following this podcast for a while, you may already know that it’s all about serving women on a mission. My mission to make the world a better place involves owning a business, and business ownership has been very lonely for me.
While I can tell myself, "nobody does it on their own”, our American culture is very much about the individual - pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and making things happen. What I've taken a LONG time to learn is making things happen is waaay better when you have a team.
This doesn't necessarily mean hiring employees. Sometimes it's having someone to bounce ideas off of. Sometimes it's having a friend to talk to or getting a hug.
Sometimes, though, you reach a point in your business where you are ready to bring on some professional help. That is where today's guest comes in.
Valerie Trapunsky founded ChatterBoss company in 2017 after a decade spent working as a top-level assistant for A-list celebrities and as the Chief of Staff for high-net-worth individuals and CEOs. During that time, Valerie developed a passion for effective problem-solving, and became committed to bringing the same level of excellent service to solo entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Valerie’s exceptional problem-solving skills and genuine love of people are the foundation of everything they do at ChatterBoss. They strive to solve customer needs through a combination of intelligent technology, intelligent systems, and most importantly, intelligent people. Together, the whole team has built a product that clients can trust to deliver personalized, reliable, and thoughtful service.
My biggest takeaways from our conversation were:

The doors are opening this week to my GYST: Build Your Bonus Brain Course.
Guess what, as of July 11th, I have been married for two years to my amazing wife Kim! But what some of you may not know is that I was married before.
I was married to a wonderful guy. He and I met when we were in high school and we dated through our last couple of years of high school and then dated off and on in college.
In this episode, I share all about that relationship, our marriage, and what that ultimately helped me realize that I wasn’t down with where we were headed as a couple.
And the thing that stood out for me when retelling this story was what I took away from that feeling of the ’not this’ space, because it can be a hard place to be.
For anybody out there who is in that space, whether it's big like a marriage, relationship, a job or career OR something a little less life-changing...
No matter how big or small it is, "not this" can be such a gift but it can also be really hard because you want to know "OK so what is it that I want".
All I can tell you is:
And so if you are in a state of "not this" no matter how big or small, I really encourage you to:
1 - take a step back and establish what is true.
2 - Get a clear picture of your reality before you start exploring options.
3 - Get a clear picture of what is currently happening in your life and in your world and what that means for what you actually do want.
4 - If there's alignment, then it might just be some tweaks that need to get made.
5 - If there isn't alignment, then there might be bigger changes to explore.
And if you’re still hanging on to something that doesn’t feel right, maybe my question of the week can help you work towards some clarity…
What percentage of your time this week is being spent on fulfilling activities? And are you ok with that? You know I love to hear from you, so be sure to head on over to my Instragram page and either leave a reply in the comments to the question of the week post OR send me a DM.

“Technology bullies are pervasive and everywhere, and you come across them in these four systems. Like if you're using a web browser to check your email and all of a sudden you're stuck on one page and no matter what you click, nothing happens.Well, that's a technology bully and there's a couple of strategies you could use to get out of that particular situation. Whether it is clear your cookies and cache in that browser, or turn the damn thing off and turn the damn thing back on.” ~ Nicole Lux-RitchieYou know that we are all about moving forward what matters most here and you can do the work to get clear about what matters most for you AND sometimes you encounter roadblocks.
And one of the biggest roadblocks can be TECHNOLOGY.
If technology is bullying you in any way right now, then you are in the right place because my guest in this episode is Nicole Lux-Ritchie, a technology guide, and fellow productivity & systems dork.
And by the way, even if you aren't struggling with tech, Nicole and I talk about a LOT of other things having to do with moving forward what matters most, so go on and tune in.
Nicole and I covered A LOT of ground, but my big takeaways from this episode are:
:: Technology is here to help you...if it isn't helping you, reach out to Nicole!
:: You don't have to be naturally organized to actually be organized. Being organized is an experience you create. It's really about giving yourself the time to decide what matters most and set up simple systems to SUPPORT you.
:: There are simple tweaks you can make to your digital office to make life and work easier, and you can have fun with that. So go to luxcentric.com/game to play Nicole's Rescue Your Digital Office game.
Sooo...I have a question for you…
Question of the week: How is technology getting in your way?

— Suddenly everything I had been feeling was being uttered by this supporting character in a movie that I randomly picked on a flight home. I pushed pause on the movie, I opened my journal, and I wrote the words, "I think my marriage is over".
That was September, 2015. It would take me until mid-November 2015 to finally tell my then-husband.—Does your life feel like you’ve completely given it over to something or someone else to control and direct? Does it feel like you’re always waiting around, hoping for the chance to finally be yourself or live for the things that fill you with joy?
In this episode, I give you a glimpse into how I got out from behind the shadows and into the driver’s seat of my own life.
It seems really weird that it took a heartbreaking moment in a movie, when this supporting character —faced with the shattering news of a terminal cancer diagnosis— suddenly realized that she’d never really given herself a chance to be and live, for me to face the reality and take the first utterly terrifying steps to reclaim my life.
I don't want you to be that character in the movie. Needing the bad news to wake you up only to find that it's too late.
“Be me on that plane. Listen to someone else's story. Get inspired. Remember that YOU are in charge of your life and get back behind the wheel.” ~ EliseAnd even if you fee like you are already in the driver's seat of your life, remember that you gotta pause every now and again to check in with yourself.
Check your direction.
Check the health of your vehicle.
Check your passengers.
Check your fuel.
I've actually created a FUN way to do that. There's still time to join my DARE TO PRIORITZE challenge. Wendy helps ambitious humans instigate the connection with who they are and who they were born to be because the imprint they leave on their people and the world matters.
Wendy and I had so much fun chatting, and my main takeaways from her were:

AND
I cooked up something new that I'm really excited about. Something I've been thinking about doing for a while and wasn't sure how to pull off, until it all just clicked into place. I am calling it a What Matters Most episode.
On that note: allow me to welcome you to the first ever What Matters Most episode of The Productivity Breakthrough podcast. In this episode, I spoke with Mona, a licensed massage practitioner.
In spite of a pandemic where her business all but shut down, as well as what could've been a career-ending shoulder surgery, Mona and her massage business are back stronger than ever...and yet she is feeling less than productive these days.
This episode gives you a chance to be the fly on the wall of our coaching session as I help Mona identify the one big thing that was stressing her out the most and how we broke that one thing down into ONE simple action Mona could take.
Our goal? Progress; one step at a time.Editing Note: I wasn't expecting for this conversation to become a podcast episode, so this was actually an hour long conversation. By the end of it, I felt that Mona's story could be helpful for all of you and she agreed to share this with you. So I edited down our original conversation significantly to really focus on what matters most for Mona and how to make progress on that.
All that to say, if our conversation sounds a bit choppy, that is why. What you’ll hear is the synthesis of our discussion and the progress that we make along the way.
Question of the week: What's stressing you out these days and what is one baby step you could take to make progress on it THIS WEEK?

Would you like to stay in the loop on some of the free programs I'm running this fall?
By the time this episode goes live, we will be halfway through the summer of 2022. Which means we will be over two years into a global pandemic that we've all been navigating for so long.
I don't know about you but I feel like I have tried to be an acrobat dodging this virus.
And after more than two years, we finally got it.
At the end of June Covid finally caught up with me and my wife.
I’m not gonna lie— it hit us BAD! And with a hefty to-do list staring at me, I had to figure out how I was going to be productive while being down for the count with Covid.
“I wanna remind you that in my world, productivity is about moving forward what matters most whilst remaining present to the people, opportunities and experiences all around you.“ **~ Elise
Productivity is NOT about checking things off a to-do list.**
Lucky for you, in this episode, I explain exactly what I mean, and give you some helpful tips on how to stay productive even when you have a bad case of Covid.
While I have checked very few things off my list in those past two weeks I consider myself to have been highly productive.
Why?
When you shift your definition and your perspective on productivity from doing things on a list to moving forward what matters most it really changes everything. So for me as soon as I started feeling sick, the things that mattered most shifted from what matters most when I am feeling healthy. Here is what mattered most:
:: making sure my loved ones were ok
:: taking care of my client
:: getting better
At the highest level, what matters most—our values—never really changes. Our purpose never changes. But circumstances at the ground level sometimes require a shift in what matters most in our day-to-day activities. Regularly assessing what matters most and lining up your actions to support that IS productivity.
So, after all of this, I have a question for you:
Question of the Week: How can you move your health forward this week?
Life with ADHD can be a challenge.Education, structure, and support are key to creating an easier, more fulfilling life, both at work and at home.
So, be sure to reach out to Cindy at her website cindyjobs.com for more information and support.

“When we compare we are taking away from ourselves...and we miss out on our own genius.” ~ Cindy JobsHow much do you know about ADHD? Have you been diagnosed with it? Is anyone in your family, friends or work circle diagnosed with ADHD?
I'm excited to bring to you an expert on ADHD in this episode. Whether it’s for you or someone else, this is your opportunity to get to see things from a different perspective and uncover resources that could support you or the people you care about with an ADHD brain. AND some of the things we discuss are relevant for any of us.
I had the great pleasure of speaking with Certified ADHD Coach, Cindy Jobs. Cindy’s passion is helping individuals with ADHD facilitate the changes necessary to create easier and more fulfilling lives.
Through coaching, Cindy’s clients become more productive, successful, and reliable by understanding their strengths and challenges, values, needs, and goals. She helps her clients better understand what’s important to them, how they may be self-sabotaging, and help them develop the structures and supports that will take them from where they are to where they want to be.
In this episode, Cindy shares her story and helps us better understand the ADHD brain. Her expertise paired with compassion make her a brilliant ADHD coach.
My main takeaways form our conversation were the universal concepts of:
Speaking of your own genius, Cindy had a question the week for you…

In this episode I wanted to focus on moving forward your mental health, so I shared my journey with depression, starting from the year before my wife Kim and I got married.
There was a lot the happened around that time, in a very short period of time. Kim and I had spent the previous year doing a huge remodel, with all the pressure and upheaval that comes with that kind of project. We then moved in, with some work still to be done on the inside. Then we started landscaping our property in early 2020, and of course the project was brought to a screeching halt when the pandemic hit...leaving our whole property torn up.
Then spring brought about the unexpected and sudden death of my dad, who I was estranged from. He died just a couple of days before my cousin passed away after her long battle with cancer. And then my aunt had a life changing medical event happen, which led to my mother moving in with us.
The combination of it all led to my rock bottom., which I describe in detail in the podcast episode.
As you listen to my story, you will notice that some or most of the symptoms I was “manifesting” don’t fall under your typical, widely publicized list of signs to look out for. I wasn’t withdrawn, sleeping a lot, watching lots of TV or anything like that.
My symptoms were more like irritability and agitation.
If anything in this episode resonates with you, or sounds like someone you know, it’s worth noting that depression may look different for you or them. And similarly, the solutions you choose to handle your depression will vary from person to person, because they’re a very personal choice between you and your healthcare professional.
Now, I’m sharing this with you to say that it's OK to not be OK. It's ok to have hard moments, hard days, hard weeks, even a hard month. But if you keep telling yourself "I'll feel better when" and at the same time telling everyone else that you’re "fine", I encourage you to try something different.
Try letting trusted people in. Try talking to your therapist or counselor. And if you don't have one, find one. The best way I know to do that is to ask your friends and family for recommendations and then research them and interview them. Talk to your doctor. Let people in.
Everyone's rock bottom can look different. Mine was being called a bully by my mom. That was enough. That was it. It was time to get help. Your rock bottom could be hearing yourself in my story.
So if you hear yourself in this story, turn toward what you're trying to avoid AND let people in.
This all brings me a very important question of the week: Who can you let in when you are feeling down?
Think about them this week. Even if you don't need them now, reach out and let them know how special they are to you.
PS: If my story makes you think of someone else, please share this episode with them so they know they are not alone.

================================
I have the pleasure of talking to Mark Drager in this episode.
Mark Drager is a pro-conversationalist and host of the YouTube show, We Do Hard Things. Mark believes that happiness only comes from pursuing our passion at all costs.
We know growth takes risk, sacrifice, hard work. Too often we don't want to risk the "okay" to get the extraordinary.
Looking back, life makes sense... the dots connect... we can see how we faced and survived everything that was thrown at us. Looking forward, life is uncertain and scary...we can't see or imagine things magically working out.
And yet if we applied the same thinking to the future as we can to the past, we'd see that life will give us all these amazing twists and turns but it will all work out for the best.
BUT, if we want to live a big, bold, extraordinary life we can't live in fear and doubt. We can't play it safe. We must face the scary and difficult, do the hard things, and pursue your passions at all costs (because no one else is going to do it for you).
With enough time, you can achieve ANY GOAL you have for yourself, Mark says.
Just question everything and answer these questions:1) What do you want?
2) Why do you want it?
3) Who has it/has done it?
4) How did they do it/get it?
5) Are you willing to do what they did?
6) What's the first, smallest step?
Mark also had another really great question for you...that’s right, it’s the question of the week:What was the last completely terrifying, scary, hard thing you did and now that you're looking back, what magical thing did it lead to?
Head on over to @productivitybreakthrough on IG and let me now your answer under the Question of the Week post.

“The big transformational idea that comes out of this book that changed everything for me was this idea that your mind is meant for having ideas and not holding them.” ~ Elise Enriquez…about David Allen’s Getting Things Done.
With summer coming, there are a lot of summer reading lists out there and they're usually all about beach reads. I definitely love a good beach read - I love a good novel. Especially a thriller or something that has outstanding dialog.
So if you are looking for a good piece of escapism, I know that Entertainment Weekly and the New York Times have great lists for summer reads.
However, if you're looking to mix in some personal growth over the next couple of months, this episode will be of particular interest to you. I share with you the 7 personal growth books that changed my life.
Something you need to know about me that is that I am not somebody who reads every personal growth book out there. Sometimes I see people that post about how many books they read every year. To me, though, taking the time to internalize and implement the things I learn from a personal growth book is more important than reading a profusion of them.
I've found that it takes time for changes to happen, so hopping from idea to idea from the new book you picked up right after you finished your last book isn't always helpful.
Here are the 7 books that have changed my life the most, in the chronological order that I was introduced to them:

And you know I'm not gonna leave you without asking you the question of the week.
What is ONE powerful concept you've learned from your favorite book and what is ONE thing you could do this week to put it into action?
Go over to my Instagram and let me know.
Feeling stuck? How about buying Tracey's book?
“Social Media is not a sales tool. It is a trust-building tool. It is a relationship-building tool. And when you can have those conversations where relationships can continue, that's where the magic is.”~ Tracey Warren
When it comes to getting the word out about what you do, do you ever have an internal dialog that goes a little something like this:
I really don't like social media, but I know I need to use it.
OR
I don't know what to say.
OR
My ideal client is everyone.
OR
It all feels slimy
OR
I don't want to sound like I'm selling used cars
If you've ever thought any of that, then this episode is for you.
Heck, even if you haven't, there is lots of marketing goodness in this episode because I am talking to Tracey Warren of Ignite Your Champions this week.
Tracey teaches business owners how to grow a business & create a profitable community with ease & joy by making marketing fun, simple, easy and effective.
She is an author, truth-teller, community creator, and fun, authentic speaker. She is a bold example of how authenticity and vulnerability can be a huge asset for entrepreneurs who want to build community.
Here’s what you should expect to learn from my chat with Tracey:
And of course, the question of the week:
What is ONE way you could ask for help this week?
Go find the question of the week on my Instagram feed and comment with your answer.
And if you know of someone who wants to move their marketing forward by building community, please make sure to get this episode to them.
“I believe that we can be productive all the time.” ~ Elise Enriquez
Are you ready to be a rebel in my productivity revolution?
In this episode, I talk about productivity as I view it in my world.
There’s a common misconception about productivity that I really want to shine a light on.
You see there can be a lot of things that we want to get done in the world and in our lives that are really specific; things that have deadlines, milestones and goals that we want to accomplish.
Then there are subtler things that aren't as easy to measure, and are just as important if not more important than the goals that we can write down on a piece of paper. For example a parent being present and having their child see them being present at their sporting event.
“In my world being productive means that you are moving forward what matters most while still being present to the people, experiences, and opportunities around you.” ~ Elise Enriquez.
When we frame the conversation of productivity around getting things done, it can create a lot of shame because you will never be done with your list —there will always be things that you could be doing. So, if your measurement of productivity is based on how many things you check off a list, you will probably struggle to feel satisfied and fulfilled in your life.
I expounded on my definition of productivity by breaking into two parts:
1 - Moving forward what matters most
2 - Being present with your people, being open to new opportunities, and being present with the experiences that are important to you.
When productivity is done well, it means you have systems that support the progress you want to make AND they support you in being present in your life...so you can actually experience what's happening around you.
Listen to the episode to learn more.
And then I wanna know —cue my Question of the Week— Are you ready to join the productivity revolution?
Are you ready to move this revolution forward so we can experience less overwhelm, shame, and worry and experience more joy, peace, and fulfillment?
If so, post a pic on Instagram of you enjoying a moment in your life. Be sure to tag me @productivitybreakthrough and use the hashtag #productivityrebel.
Need help in using personality assessments as tools to create life and work fulfilment?
Reach out to Darci: darcidanielscoaching.com===========================================
Have you ever taken a personality assessment like the DISC, Myers-Briggs, Enneagram or VIA Character strengths and felt like it wasn't helpful or like shouting “I want my money back!”?
I have. When I first took the Myers-Briggs assessment i was given my results and then given a list of careers I should consider based on my results. That was it. No debrief. No follow up.
Or maybe you've been in a big group workshop where everyone takes an assessment, you all get your results, and then do exercises as groups based on your results. Perhaps all the while worried that you and your boss aren't in the same group. Or maybe people keep cracking jokes about one particular type and the facilitator doesn't do anything about it.
These kinds of experiences with assessments are far too common and so frustrating to hear about as coaches, because we know there is a better way.
Assessments can be powerful tools to create life and work fulfilment. Which is exactly what my guest in this episode, Darci Daniels, does for people.
“Some people love to work and they love their lives. When you have life fulfilment and you are happy with both, you will find a natural balance - [that’s] work-life fulfilment.”~ Darci Daniels.Darci has been a certified business and life coach since 2014. She worked in the financial and mortgage industry for over 20 years, including 11 years as a loan officer and three years as a corporate coach.
Darci and I geeked out over the power of self-knowledge and self-acceptance, and how we can use personality/strengths assessment to our best advantage.
Speaking of self-knowledge and self-acceptance, here’s my question for you this Week: What is ONE thing you could do to get to know yourself better this week?Be sure to let me know over on Instagram.
PS: Whether you already know your Enneagram Type and/or VIA profile, or not, I recommend reaching out to Darci to help you bring the power of these two approaches together into a practical plan to help you move forward.

As you know this podcast focuses on helping you move forward what matters most. Sometimes, knowing what matters most is really obvious and clear to you, and other times it's just not that easy.
There are points in life you get to and things just shift.
Those changes can be external, like the pandemic, and sometimes those changes are internal - where you are ready for something new, a different kind of challenge, a shift, some sort of change.
However, we don't always know what that shift or change or challenge is. At these times the question of "what do you want?” can feel really overwhelming.
When it comes to times like these it can be important to note that the best kind of work you can do is inside work.
I want to help with that. In this episode, I talk about 3 different ways to get more clear about what you want.
1 - Notice what lights you up
2 - Pay attention to what drives you crazy
3 - Pay attention to the stuff that make you jealous and envious
Whether you are feeling the urge to make a shift, but you don't know what it is quite yet or you just wanna make sure you're staying tuned into yourself and what you care about, listen to the episode to find out more about these 3 methods.
Let me know your answer for this week’s Question of the Week:
Which of these clarity challenges will you take on this week?Be sure to head on over to Instagram and let me know which one you're going to try out this week. I’d also love it if you let me know what you uncover at the end of the week.
PS: Whether it's a business BFF or a personal BFF, don’t forget to share this episode with your BFFs so you can help them get clear about what they want too and you can cheer each other on in making that a reality.

I'm so happy to share a conversation I recently had with Sandy Stamato,
Sandy is the Founder of Limb Dweller Transitional Coaching for women 50 and beyond.
Sandy says, “At a certain point, there are no do-overs. This is precious time, so why waste it?”
Sandy Stamato, an accomplished public speaker, trainer, frequent podcast guest, and founder of Limb Dwelling Transitional coaching. Her 30 years of experience in marketing, media sales and business consulting gives her a textured perspective when she works with solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, and reluctantly employed.
In this episode we talk about embracing your true nature and how that can change your life.
Sandy tells her painful and liberating story of discovering that she is a "limb dweller" and what that has meant to her and so many others to embrace that instead of feeling ashamed and isolated.
If you've ever felt like an outsider in this world, this is the episode for you.
Even if you haven't felt that way, take a listen and gain a new perspective so you can support someone you care about who might be feeling like Sandy used to.

Hey there!
Are you up for a little heart-to-heart talk this week?
I'm working on some cool stuff in my business right now that I can't wait to share with you. And for as excited and certain as I am about what I'm doing, I definitely didn't feel that way at first. I was really hung up on everyone else's definitions of what a coach is supposed to be and what success looks like.
So this week I'm sharing a bit of my personal and professional journey with you in hopes of inspiring you to challenge the definitions you are working from and to think about what truly matters most to YOU.
Tune in to get inspiration and tools to support you in:
And of course, all of this brings me to...ding...the Question of the Week….What is the ONE thing you could do this week to bring more of YOU to the most important role you play in your life?

Could you do me a favor? Could you take a moment to think of another woman on a mission who is looking to do great things while enjoying the journey? Once you have that person in mind, please send along this episode to them. I'd really appreciate it.
Hey Hey!
I’m super excited to be interviewing a VERY special guest in this episode…drum roll, please…It’s none other than the woman I’m super privileged to do life with, my amazing wife, Kim Hope!
After 15 years of a successful career as a massage professional and nationally-traveling massage instructor, Kim left it all behind to start over and train in something she always wanted to do - residential redesigns...remodeling homes and outdoor living spaces. As you can imagine, her days look drastically different now from what they did in those 15 years. That lady’s got one hell of a story to tell!
That’s not what we’re talking about today, though. In this episode, you will get to find out more about Kim, us as a couple, our differences and what we do to get on the same page so we can keep on creating a life we love.
Believe it or not, Kim and I have our differences, like any other couple. We were in our late thirties and early forties by the time we started our life together, we each had our own established lives and ways of doing things, with our own internal and external shifts. I’d just gone through a divorce and Kim was going through a major career shift. So naturally, we came at things from totally different perspectives.
Despite all this, we always considered ourselves great communicators and were pretty much on the same page in every area of our lives…or so we thought! Then we met Doug Petersen, my guest from episode 21, and quickly realized that we actually DID need to be very intentional in making sure we were on the same page, and not just with our finances. That’s a whole other story. If you missed it, go on and listen to EP 21 to find out the details. Anyway, Doug introduced the idea of us having a weekly family meeting, and we have never looked back since.
OK, to be honest; it took a while to gain momentum, and we’re still learning lots and tweaking our process, but we’ve already seen such great results that we’re both fully committed and extremely grateful to have it in place.
Tune in to find out more about our weekly family meeting. I’m sure you’re curious to know,
Kim also came up with this whopper of a Question of the Week….Would it be more painful to grow or to just stay the same?

Tech, tools and apps...Wanna know how they are getting in your way?
Anyone who's ever worked with me will be surprised to hear this. Just the other day, one of my one-on-one clients said, "Elise, you have an app for everything." ‘Cause I sorta do, you know.
So, why the heck would I think that technology can get in your way?!
Well, here’s the thing. I've worked with a lot of small business owners over the years and there are a lot of shiny tools, tech and apps targeted at them, with a healthy dose of FOMO-inducing marketing tactics thrown in there. They’re marketed in a way as if to make you think that if you just invest in their technology (and we're not always talking small investments here) that everything will be better in your life and in your business.
AND THAT SIMPLY ISN'T TRUE.
I cannot tell you how many people I’ve worked with who, when they started working with me, could point to this really complex, all-encompassing technology that they pay for monthly or annually...that was gonna 10x their business...that they were not using.
Do you know why?...The technology is not enough! These tools and apps are not going to save you.
They CAN absolutely make your life and work easier, WHEN you use them to support and/or make existing business processes more efficient.
They CANNOT make up for lack of process.
In this episode, I talked about 3 things you need to be clear about before you decide what tools you need in your business (and life):
When you’re clear on that, you can then set up SIMPLE SYSTEMS to support you in making those actions happen more reliably, consistently, and efficiently. Systems like checklists, regular meetings, spreadsheets, etc.
So, here’s my question for you this week… What is ONE simple system you can put in place THIS week to support the results you are trying to create?
Tell me all about it over on Instagram @productivitybreakthrough.
AND if you are interested in one of my simplest, most-affordable apps that helps me run my life and business, head on over to https://eliseenriquez.com/freestuff to get your hands on this sanity saving app.
Back when I worked in corporate America, I dealt with a lot of interruptions. Part of this is because I am a recovering people pleaser and back then I was an active people pleaser at that time. So my office door was always open with my ear cocked for any way that I could help anybody that happened to be wandering by.
This gave me a reputation for being very helpful, and because of that helpful reputation lots of people would pop in with the ‘gottaminutes’. You know, "Hey Elise, got a minute? I want to bounce this idea off of somebody." 30-minutes and a bunch of whiteboarding later, they left my office ready for action and I tried to get back into the groove of whatever I was doing before the gottaminute.
Being the extrovert that I am, I would jump at the chance to hop into somebody's problem and help them solve it, often at the expense of my own work which meant I would end up staying late most nights to get my work done.
From what I understand from stories that my parents have told me, I've always been this way. Apparently back in first grade my teacher turned my desk toward the closet and away from the rest of the classroom because I would spend my time helping the other kids and not do my own work. LOL!
No matter where you are or what you do, interruptions are a part of life. Some careers and businesses are more prone to interruptions than others.
A couple of years ago a LOT of us started working from home and we had to shift from workplace interruptions to homelife interruptions. Especially with kids involved or even just needy pets at home. So, not only were you adjusting to how to be productive at home, you were dealing with different interruptions than you dealt with at work. And the work interruptions kept coming, except that maybe they arrived in a different form like texts, chats, slack channels, emails, phone calls, etc.
And now, a lot of people are heading back to the office and are going to start to experience those interpersonal interruptions, the gotaminutes, again.
It doesn't matter what form interruptions take, you already know that interruptions are costing you time, but did you know how much time? Studies show that it can take 23 minutes just to get back to where you left off. That’s after you’ve taken care of the interruption.
3 ways to better manage interruptions
1 - Set up a do not disturb time lock:
Time Locks is a concept Edward G Brown talks about in his book The Time Bandit Solution: Recovering Stolen Time You Never Knew You Had. A Time Lock is where everyone is given dedicated quiet time to concentrate. Whether you work from home or in an office setting, if you feel like interruptions are robbing you of your productivity, you could try the time lock method at home. You can have some sort of visual to indicate to them that you should only be interrupted for an emergency, like a stop sign drawn on a piece of paper. Better yet, have your kid make the stop sign for you!
2 - Set up a 'ready-to-resume' system:
According to research at the University of Washington, creating a “ready-to-resume” plan can help you shift your focus when interruptions arise. The plan doesn’t have to be extensive, you can just jot down where you were and your next step on a piece of paper. 10 seconds or less. Creating your plan not only allows you to get back on track faster, but it also helps you give your full attention to your little “co-worker”.
3 - Be sure your "to-do" list identifies actions that you can actually do:
Based on my years of working with people on this stuff, I can tell you that if interruptions consistently throw you off, your To-Do list is probably a major part of the problem**. It means that your list is a mix of projects AND actions. If you look at your To-Do list and have to think about what to do next, your list isn’t helpful.
Your To-Do list should be a list of actions you can actually take at any moment when you are in the right location. So, do yourself a favor and make your to-do list actionable.
“Interruptions probably aren't your problem, boundaries and systems are. Improve those and you'll improve your productivity.”
Which brings us to the question of the week… What is ONE experiment you can run this week to better manage interruptions in your life and work?
Hop on over to "ProductivityBreakthrough" on Instagram and tell me about it in the comments or send me a DM. And if you create a do not disturb sign, post a picture and tag me in it!
If you want to support young dancers to build their talent and character while fulfilling their dreams and inspiring others go to https://www.thebackstagefoundation.org/ to learn how you can contribute.
“I believe that the world will be a better place when people are doing the things that they love and are meant to do, and they are contributing to the world in the ways that they want to.”
In this episode, I am talking with Kari Hovde. Kari is a longtime entrepreneur, owner of a real estate brokerage called K Properties Northwest and has been in the Real Estate industry for the past 18 years. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of The Backstage Foundation.
“The Backstage Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports talented young dancers by helping them with any gaps in their financing or any hardships of some sort for them to take their dance careers to the next level.” ~ Kari
The two most important things that Kari loves to spend her time on are being in relationship with people and at dance class, which she describes as “probably one of my favorite places for teaching, exercising and getting all the good vibes.”
In our conversation Kari shares her journey from a driven, do-it-all myself business owner, to a leader who has learned to delegate and tap into the support all around her in order to create things that are bigger than she could ever have imagined.
“If you have a dream of something that you want to do, it just takes steps of moving forward. It CAN be done.” ~ Kari Hovde
Kari left us with so many amazingly inspirational gems, and as you go on to listen you can expect to hear about:
● How Kari interweaves and balances all her passions, hobbies and purpose while prioritizing staying in relationship with people.
● Some of the biggest shifts that have happened both professionally and personally in Kari’s life.
● The things she learned to accept about herself through her journey of introspection and self-awareness.
● The Backstage Foundation and how it is impacting the lives of young dancers by helping them “build their talent and character while fulfilling their dreams and inspiring others.”
● “In the Spotlight”, the Backstage Foundation’s first annual benefit dance show happening in May this year.
● Plus lots of pearls of wisdom sprinkled throughout.

"Struggling with finances is totally optional." ~ Doug Peterson
In this episode, I talked with cash flow expert Doug Peterson about how to stop struggling with your finances.
Doug is a 37-year entrepreneur, and 17 of those years was as an executive coach. Over the years he noticed a major problem that many people have with their finances that he and his wife were able to overcome and now he has turned that into a system to help others.
My top 3 takeaways from Doug.
I totally get this because this is what I teach people to do in my GYST program. Stay current with your life, plans and resources so you can be intentional about your choices. That's exactly what Doug teaches people how to do when it comes to their finances, so that you're not spending money that you don't have. And that when you're making choices to spend your money, you actually feel really good about it, not just in the short term, but also in the long run.
Doug talked about his life plan and that even though he’s on track, there's still work that he's doing because, well…we're all human. That, however, doesn't mean that we can't enjoy the journey. To Doug, enjoying the journey, enjoying this current moment with his family, with his friends or with his clients is the priority. And this helps him stay out of the trap of wanting to make more and more money in order to be happy.
So simple, and yet not easy...but I have to say that Doug makes it easy. AND I love that he acknowledges that sometimes we will struggle when we don't have enough money for the essentials, but after that, the struggle is not necessary.
So regardless of whether you have just enough or more than enough money, if you've had a stress-and-struggle relationship with money, I encourage you to reach out to Doug and schedule a time to get on his calendar. You can do that by going to schedulewithdoug.com

==================================
Who out there is a perfectionist?
I believe that while certain personalities can slip into and be troubled by perfectionism more than others, we all tend to be perfectionistic about something. For all of my enneagram people out there, I'm a type 9. The harmonizer. But right next to 9 is type 1. The perfectionist. And I have to say that my perfectionistic type 1 wing can be very strong at times!
Now, I know you must be scratching your head at the quizzical nature of this episode’s title. I won’t go into the details here, but if you tune in to the episode, you will hear the entire story. And yes, you’re allowed to laugh. In the world of psychology, perfectionists are often identified as either healthy or maladaptive.Healthy perfectionists challenge themselves by having high expectations, goals and standards. They get a very real sense of pleasure from the labors of their painstaking effort. When failures and challenges happen, they learn from them and stay engaged in an activity.
Then there are maladaptive perfectionists who set unrealistically high goals and standards. When they encounter failure/challenge they could go one of two directions:
In the past when my perfect days were at risk I've taken the path of becoming more obsessed with my goal. Making it happen no matter what...even if I didn't enjoy anything about it. But I've also been someone who avoids an activity altogether due to my perfectionism. I also spend most of my time in healthy perfectionism in the areas that matter.
Like many things, I think of perfectionism as more of a spectrum.
Most of the time when my perfectionism crops up, it's healthy...and sometimes...well, I already told you what that can look like.
For some things, perfectionism is worth the effort, the high standards, and occasional sacrifice to make something that is excellent, maybe even perfect. But sometimes, when your low-stakes perfect scenario starts to look not so perfect, it might be ok to go with “good enough”.
This is why one of my regular life reminders is "progress, not perfection".
One of the ways I help people get their perfectionism under control is to help them more clearly see the reality of their time and their commitments. We do this in my GYST program. If you want to join the GYST waitlist, don’t forget to head on over to eliseenriquez.com/GYST
Question of the week: What is ONE thing you could do a little less perfectly this week? You know, how can you just shave your legs?
I wanna know what that would look like. Share it with me over on Instagram.
PS: Perfectionism can sometimes be tangled up with anxiety and other mental health concerns. If you are ever feeling like your perfectionism is having a significant impact on your ability to function in and/or enjoy your daily life, reach out to a mental health professional. I'm a coach who has coaches and a therapist. It takes a village to keep this girl going, so don't hesitate to build your village too.
Are you interested in uncovering your word or phrase for the year? I actually have a free guide that can help you uncover your guiding word or phrase. Just head on over to eliseenriquez.com/freestuff to get your free download.
==========================================================
What’s your take on having a word or phrase of the year? Do you loathe it, or do you swear by it?
If you’ve been with me for a while now, you know I pick a guide word or phrase every year. Now, maybe you think I put too much stock in all this word for the year stuff, but it truly has changed my life.
Let me take you on a flashback with me for a minute.
It was January of 2016. I was sitting in a church pew at Seattle Unity Church with my future wife.
A few things to note in this scenario:
So to say that my life was a bit topsy-turvy at that point is an understatement. And thank goodness for new love. Otherwise, I would not have been sitting in that church pew on that January day.
Anyway, my future wife, well aware of the topsy turvy-ness of my life, invited me to the White Stone Ceremony at Seattle Unity Church. I had no idea what a white stone ceremony was, but I went because, well, love.
Sitting in the pew, I was led through a visualization of the year ahead and I was scared.
I was going to go through a divorce, effectively ending a relationship I had been in more than half my life. I'd be figuring out how to support myself by myself. I had never really done that before. My husband and I had been together since high school and we'd built our life and wealth together.
I'd be finding a new place to live. At that point, I was living in a dreary condo that I had friends over to maybe once ever. And I never let my family come over. I was so not happy with the place; no way in hell would I have wanted them to see me there.
I knew the woman by my side was going to be in my future and I'd need to figure out how to navigate the world in a same-sex relationship. Something I had never done before.
I accepted my fear AND embraced what I wanted to create throughout the year: stability, connection, happiness, success.
As we had entered the ceremony, we were handed a little golf pencil and a small rectangular stone. As the visualization wrapped up, we were asked to pick a word to guide us through the year ahead and write it on our white stone. I didn't follow the rules, which is so not like me, I picked two words: Bold and Brave. I scrawled those words on my white stone and embraced Bold and Brave for the year.
That year, I had the best year I'd ever had in my business, I successfully navigated my divorce, I deepened my connection with the people who mattered most to me, and I moved in with Kim and we created a home together. "Bold and Brave" guided me through the hardest year of my life. (Well, my hardest year until the past couple of years!)
"Every day matters" helped me stabilize the next year.
"Gathering" led to growth the following year.
"Shine" challenged me after that.
"Create" led to crazy amounts of production in 2020.
"Bloom" brought me through 2021.
This year’s word and phrase were a bit harder to pin down. Here we are in early March 2022, and I finally have it:
“Creating Space: making time for proactive planning and action, growth, and moments to refill my cup.”
My definition is printed out on a cute card and posted on my computer monitor in my office and in my bathroom so that I'll see it all the time.
So, even though we are in month 3 of 2022, I still have this question of the week for you...What is your guiding word or theme for the year?
If that's too much to think about, just consider what word or phrase would be helpful this week.
And if you are interested in uncovering your word or phrase for the year, remember to download that free guide to help you uncover your guiding word or phrase at eliseenriquez.com/freestuff
Happy spring!
Ok, that’s wishful thinking.
If you listen to this episode when it's released, then you’re experiencing the annual slosh back and forth from winter to spring to winter to spring until we finally get full blown spring. I live in the Pacific NorthWest and I forget about the slosh every year.
Bulbs will start popping out of the ground as early as January and I get excited for spring. Then, inevitably there's a cold snap, which is kind of welcome because it usually means lots of sunny days...even though they require lots of bundling up!
But when we finally tip over into spring, it's the best. Sure, there's still rain here and there, but there's also crocuses, daffodils, tulips, leaf and flower buds...
and Taxes!
Jeez louise, I'm really taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions here. The drama of seasons changing. From the beauty of new life to taxes?
If the word taxes just froze you on the spot with dread, then this episode is for you.
And, even if you have your shit together when it comes to taxes, this episode is still for you because the big picture of what I talk about applies to any cumbersome, infrequently recurring process in your life or business.
Back in the day, the weeks leading up to the tax deadline used to feel like I was standing at the foot of Mt Everest without any gear or any map to get me to the top. And I had an accountant.
In years past I would just let that kick-off email from my accountant sit there. I'd stare at it and stress. I'd work on other things. Anything but this huge climb called taxes. Every year I'd repeat this drama - it IS an easy thing to do with a process you don't have to do daily, weekly, or monthly afterall.
With something like an annual process you can get into the habit of kinda just putting your head down, getting it done, and then completely forget all about it until next year.
It doesn’t have to be this way, though.
The fact that you do it so infrequently is the PERFECT reason to create a system that supports you in making it happen with less stress and struggle.
“But what kinda systems, Elise?” I hear you ask.
In this episode, I share 3 simple steps you can take to help you go from stressed to savvy when it comes to your taxes.
Step 1: Work on your mindset - What’s your WHY for doing your taxes? When you get clear on that, then you will have the key to your motivation.
Step 2: Get the facts - If you are frozen in some way about your taxes, the best thing you can do is get more information.
Getting the facts about your situation will help shed light on what to do next.
Step 3: Put some simple systems in place - These systems will support you so you don't have to try to remember it all again a year from now.
Once the tax process is done, set up your physical file folders and cloud file folders for next year so that you can just toss stuff in them as you get stuff throughout the year. Then, by early next year, you'll have everything in a limited number of places, and a checklist to carry you through the next season. VIOLÀ!
And the beauty of it is that this same process can be applied to anything you do that feels like a requirement and doesn't happen very often.
Whew! That is a lot.
But don't worry. Remember that visual guide? Don't forget to download it at eliseeenriquez.com/freestuff.
Now that you’ve got these great tips to help you with your taxes, I’ve got a question for you.
Question of the week…What is ONE simple system you can put in place to make a big project a little easier this week?
Head on over to Instagram and let me know.
A quick heads up!

*===============================
This episode is a little bit different because I did my first interview. Yikes!*
Y'all are people on a mission and I wanted to share the story of someone whose mission changed when she decided to amp up her productivity.
In this episode I talk to Laura Turczanski, an Attorney by day and mom of 3 boys every other waking moment. About a year ago, Laura's mission was to just get her life under control.
“I was drowning in emails and tasks and to do's and post-it notes all over my desk at work. There were so many balls in the air, and I never felt like I even knew what was on my plate.” — Laura.
Then she implemented some simple systems over the past few months and now her mission is to enjoy her life with her family and enjoy her work. How cool is that?!
There are so many things I loved about Laura's story, but I gotta just share some of my favorites:
● I loved that Laura knew that there could be something better than what she was experiencing when she was overwhelmed. Deep down, she knew there had to be a better way.
● The other thing I loved was that what she put in place was actually simple. Y'all know I'm a big fan of simple systems. We usually need consistency more than complexity and simple makes consistency easier!
● I loved that Laura recognized that she'd do better with accountability and community to keep her engaged in her system and she didn't judge that, she just GAVE that to herself.
You know I always have a question of the week and this time I asked Laura to come with one for you.
So here goes the question of the week… What is the one thing you could get done this week that you don't want to have to think about again next week?
This question made me laugh because I could totally relate to it. What is that one thing that's been on your list forever that you just don't want to see anymore? What can you do this week to get it done or at least, move it forward?
Share your thoughts with me over on Instagram.

Did you know that most people have given up on their New Year's resolutions by now?
Not me...because I don't make New Year's resolutions.
But I do set goals. Most of my goals are targeted toward my business, but I do have some personal goals. Every year I'd set goals and hope I could figure out how to accomplish them. Not just hope, I'd work at it.
~ I know that goals are results and you can't get results without action. ~
This is the difference between leading indicators and lagging indicators. Leading indicators are the actions you know you need to take to get the result you are looking for. Lagging indicators are the results you achieve from the action you take.
If you aren't getting the results you're looking for, you gotta change the actions you take.
In one of my favorite books, Atomic Habits, the author James Clear says: “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Your goal is your desired outcome. Your system is the collection of daily habits that will get you there. This year, spend less time focusing on outcomes and more time focusing on the habits that precede the results.”
"Winners and losers have the same goals." ―James Clear
OUCH! But it's true. Every Olympian wants the medal. Every candidate wants the job. The wanting isn't enough. It's a good start, but it's not enough. What you gotta get in place are the systems to support you in achieving your goals consistently.
One of the best systems you can put in place for moving you toward your goals while staying present to the people, experiences and opportunities that matter most is a Bonus Brain.
"What the heck is a bonus brain?", I hear you ask.
A Bonus Brain is a group of tools that hold everything that needs to be remembered so your brain can be freed up to be more present, strategic, and creative.
I'm going to be talking all about the power of a bonus brain in a masterclass I'm hosting this week. Head on over to eliseenriquez.com/masterclass to register. Registering for that masterclass could be your first action toward achieving your most important goal this year!
Time for the big question. Yup! It's the Question of the Week...What system can you put in place to help you achieve your most important goal this year?

Do you ever stop to think of how the words you use affect your productivity?
Last weekend we were hanging out with our nieces and the six-year-old kept saying things like, "I don't know how to do that." She was feeling self-defeated because of her lack of experience and knowledge, and we kept responding to her with, "Yet, honey. You don't know how to do that yet." And after a little bit, she picked up on that.
It's a simple shift in language that will help her be more resilient.
AND this isn't just stuff that six year olds need help with.
In my productivity coaching practice, I get to work with really smart, generous, kind, successful people. And I gotta share something that I've witnessed with everyone I've coached, whether they’re leaders of multi-million dollar companies working with me one-on-one or someone enrolled in one of my group programs. They all use words that get in the way of their productivity.
Now as you know, in my world, productivity is moving forward what matters most to you. So it’s safe to assume that they don't mean to do this, but they inadvertently do so by talking about things in a way that can be so limiting for them. And just like my six-year old niece, a simple shift in language is all it takes for them to make a turn around.
In this episode, I share the 5 limiting phrases I see people use ALL the time and what to use instead.
Before we get started, could you do me a favor?
If you listen to this week's episode and it makes you think of someone who might find it valuable, please send them a quick email, text or DM with a link to the episode https://elise-enriquez.mykajabi.com/podcasts/the-productivity-breakthrough/episodes/2147685191 and a little message like "I thought you might like this." Thanks, I would really appreciate it.
OK, back to the 5 phrases to watch out for:
Let me show you how you can turn each of them around:
When you catch yourself using any of these words I want you to first correct yourself out loud whenever possible. And then I want you to be kind to yourself. Some of these words may have become a habit for you and it will take time to loosen their grip and shift to more helpful words.
And now I've got a question for you. That's right, it's time for the question of the week...Which of these phrases will you focus on changing starting right now? I should, Have to, I can't, But or I don't know?
I'd love it if you'd post the phrase you're working on to Instagram and tag me @elisemenriquez so I can celebrate you!

With so much out of your control, it can be good to have traditions and rituals that you can hold on to no matter what's going on.
So here it is, my covid-proof holiday tradition.
Burning Bowl.
Burning Bowl is a ritual that you can use to bring awareness the unhelpful shit that is no longer serving you. The unhelpful thoughts you have, the unhelpful habits, the unhelpful beliefs. I'm talking about whatever it is that holds you back and is within your control.
Here are the basics:
You grab a piece of paper and write down all the stuff you want to release and not bring with you into the next year.
Then you burn that piece of paper. Simple as that.
The big caveat, you gotta focus on stuff that is within your control.
In other words, COVID can't be on that list. That's not within your control. let me help you out with a couple of examples from my burn page for this year:
:: zoning out instead of resting
:: stopping what works
:: jiggle
So, you write it all down and burn that piece of paper. In an open space with plenty of ventilation and fire retardants nearby!
Simple as that.
To help you out, I've created a free guide for you that covers the What, Why, When, Who, Where, and How of the burning bowl ritual.
https://elise-enriquez.mykajabi.com/burning-bowl
Now, I've got a question for you, that's right, it's time for the question of week...What is the ONE limiting belief you won't bring with you into the new year?
If you listen to this week's episode and it makes you think of someone who might enjoy the burning bowl ritual, please send them a quick email/text/dm with a link to the episode and a little message like "I thought you might like this."

“Let that To-Do list support you, not control you. It should support your purpose, your vision, and your goals. That way you can move forward with what matters most to you, so you can be more productive.” - Elise Enriquez
Welcome to the Productivity Breakthrough Podcast with Elise Enriquez. Today I tackle probably the most common productivity myth, that productivity means getting everything done. For a lot of people, they define productivity as checking everything off their long to-do list. The sad truth is that entropy is knocking at all our doors and our lists will never stay clear.

“Just because you can do anything doesn't mean you can do everything. Taking on the attitude of being able to do anything can lead to stacking your plate too full. And soon, you have too much to do, and you don't have enough time.” - Elise Enriquez
Welcome to the Productivity Breakthrough Podcast with Elise Enriquez. Today I tackle another productivity myth, “I have too much to do and not enough time to do it.” This limiting belief is such a tricky one because it's definitely not a helpful thought, but it happens to be true. Let’s dive into why you shouldn’t do everything, even if you can do anything.

So that way you can see what you truly have on your plate, how much time you have, you can see all the commitments, all the projects. Then you can consciously and intentionally decide how to allocate your time and you can prioritize what matters most to you right now.” - Elise Enriquez

“When people believe in this myth, they tend to believe something is wrong with them. And then they tend to become hopeless like they have no capacity to impact things in their life for the better.” - Elise Enriquez
Welcome to the Productivity Breakthrough Podcast with Elise Enriquez. Today we cover a very common but very unhelpful and even harmful productivity belief. We get to the root of the belief and instead of trying to solve it, we find a different perspective altogether.

“Productivity is the art of maintaining presence, while still moving forward what matters most.” - Elise Enriquez
Welcome to the Productivity Breakthrough Podcast with Elise Enriquez. Have you ever thought of budgeting your time? Time is the most valuable resource we have because it’s the only thing we can never get back. Time means so much, and with it, we can do so much. How do we make the most of this precious asset?
Today we talk about creating a system for your time so that you can examine your time-expenditure and make adjustments, save and invest your time into the right things, always at peace in the present.

The art of maintaining presence, while still moving forward what matters most
Systems in place to hold everything that matters to you allows you to
Be at peace knowing you can get back to making progress on things when the time is right
Time is more than just money
[06:39 - 07:57] Question of The Week
Key Quotes:
“While a lot of people will say that time is money, I say that time is so much more than money. Time is relationships, goals accomplished, milestones reached, a great meal with friends, time is having an impact in the world.” - Elise Enriquez
“And so just like you have a bank account where you can see your balance, you can have a way to look at your time more clearly. Just like you can look at your day-to-day purchases and make changes, you can look at how you're spending your time and make adjustments. And just like you can save up money for future purchases, you can set aside time for what matters most.” - Elise Enriquez
