Stress is an inside job. It is how we respond or react to a stressor that makes all the difference. If we are mentally stressed, we understand that means we are doing too much, resting too little, our minds are too busy, and a lot of what we are doing is psychologically and emotionally harmful. But our bodies can be stressed too. On a physical level we can be stressed by lifting heavy weights, running, pushing ourselves to the limits.

And what stresses our bodies metabolically? Well, following suit, it is pushing our metabolism to the limit.

Our bodies are designed to extract nutrients from our food, put those nutrients into cells, and grow more, healthier cells.

To do this, we handle a delicate balance of metabolic hormones, every day.

I walk you through the basics in this short podcast episode!

Fads fade fast.

NEWS FLASH… low carb is not a “fad,” but rather a lifestyle change.

While it can be adopted for a short period of time, you are merely scratching the surface of what can be achieved over the long haul.

Not sure if you can manage the low carb lifestyle?

Trust me, you can. And it is pretty simple, but that’s not to say it is effortless.

In this episode I'll demonstrate why the low carb way of eating is far from a "fad".

When people think of pollutants, they think about chemicals, radiation, or pesticide residue. No matter how natural or unnatural the pollutant is, at the end of the day, most people define pollutants in purely physical terms.

The bottom-line problem is that the most dangerous pollutants in our lives are things that we cannot see, nor measure. These pollutants and toxins distort our sense of personhood. They change our mindsets in dangerous ways.

Think about it, if you can detect something, you only need to see a sign. You only need to come prepared.

If you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, desperate, depressed or simply bummed out, maybe it’s because you’ve exposed yourself to these invisible non-material pollutants. Just because you can’t readily see them, doesn’t take their danger away.

No matter how you define it, and regardless of the angle from which you look at these issues, it is bad news. Now if you’re still unclear, here are the three most common forms of invisible non-material pollutants.

Building an empire. Leaving a legacy. Forging a path where there was none before. Making a lasting impact on the world. These are the things that motivate many to wade into the EXECUpreneurial waters.

Or maybe it’s the lure of being your own boss. Being at the helm; in charge. Never again having to answer to some blowhard boss who couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag. Being one’s own boss sure sounds better than working for someone who is less qualified than you. Or worse, a micromanager!

In steps the always sexy, sure to entice EXECUpreneurial Lifestyle.

Private yachts, lobster benedict & mimosas for breakfast, weekly massages & mani/pedis, butlers, exotic travel, a personal shopper, and a driver at your beck and call behind the wheel of a drool-worthy luxury vehicle…

Sexy? Yes. Realistic? I think not. For most of us that is.

In all honesty, I don’t want all of that excess. If you do, good on ya and go get ‘em Tiger. You can apply the same principles I uncover in this work, just as well as the person for whom I created it.

A “Whole”-istic detox works with the complete person. Please understand that you’re not just your skin, bones, muscle tissue, hair, digestive system, circulatory system, and reproductive system. You’re made up of more than that.

It is no surprise that a lot of detox programs currently being promoted flat out fail. They don’t even come close to delivering the benefits they’re supposed to bring to the table. How can they? They are positioned in such a way that they are supposed to deal only with your body, your blood chemistry, and other physical elements.

But the reality is, you are more than the sum of your parts; you are more than your body. You’re more than your ability to perceive. You are also your experiences, your memory, and your potential. And your mindset. If you want a good example of this, look at a person’s life before and after they develop Alzheimer’s. They are a completely different person, yet look primarily the same.

It is tragic. Heartbreaking in fact.

In this episode, I introduce the concept of the "Whole"-istic detox and why it is superior to all others.

I am at a loss...

A loss for how "nutritional advice" became such a train wreck.  But alas...it is a train wreck of epic proportions!

When money started swapping hands in the spirit of "research", we went off the tracks.  (Alright, enough with the locomotive train of thought...)

The issue at hand is that this one man, whom I introduce in this podcast, was able to single handedly derail our collective relationship to food.  (One more train reference snuck in; I couldn't help it!)

Real food is food that was once alive, not the stuff most people consume in the name of "food".  Real food grew on a stem, vine, tree or in the ground.  Or it walked around on hooves or feet...or maybe it swam or flew.  No matter the means by which it grew or moved around, it was full of life energy before it ended up on your fork.

When the man I am about to introduce you to came on the nutrition scene, in my opinion, he single-handedly changed the way we eat.  He published a landmark "study" that people ate up as if it was gospel.  And anyone who dared question his "research" was professionally vilified, by this nutrition thug and his cronies.

I could go on and on...

I'll catch you up to speed in this episode.  Take a deep centering breath and let's do this!

I propose to you that the business that is not continually examined and re-examined on every measurable level, is a business not worth owning.  I'll share why in this episode of the EXECUpreneur's EDGE Podcast...

EXECUpreneur is a hybrid word. I like to use it because the principles I will discuss in the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE apply to those in the entrepreneurial space as well as corporate executives. Hence, EXECUpreneur is a perfect term to use.

Both roles take a certain set of skills, a specific blend of character traits and a hefty, hefty, hefty bag of tricks.

The entrepreneur takes on a different set of risks than the executive, indeed. But they both take risks in their day-to-day. They are both high-achievers. And they are both visionaries to a degree.

Self-doubt is one of the primary reasons many don’t take action towards losing weight, again.

The truth of the matter is we all face times where our fear of failure outweighs our self-confidence.

Self-doubt can be attributed to many of these fears. The feeling that we’re not good enough, smart enough, nor creative enough is crippling. Add to that past weight loss failures and we up the level of busy-ness so we get a temporary reprieve.

I'll break down the cycle in this episode of the EXECUpreneur's EDGE Podcast.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it with the so-called “weight loss experts”. Calling them used car salesmen would be an insult to used car salesmen.

If I hear one more say “Eat Less, Move More” I’m going to scream!

That is not how weight loss works, fat loss in particular.

Instead of giving you a fish, or even teaching you to fish, I teach you how to know exactly when and where to catch the most sought-after fish (fat loss). And when that stops working (because the body accommodates to your approach) you learn how to modify your strategy. (Side note…you do not have to like fish to work with me. It is just a fitting metaphor.)

Most people I speak with think their beliefs are like their wardrobe. They’re basically stuck with what they’ve got. Every day they simply walk up to their closet, sift through what’s there, pick something out, wear it, and move on to the next set of clothes the next day. Rinse. Repeat.

If that’s your attitude when it comes to your beliefs, it’s no surprise you are not living your life to your fullest potential. Whether this means enjoying the best job, making the most money in your field, enjoying the best relationships, or looking physically fit, beliefs play a major role in your life. No matter how little awareness you have around the topic, beliefs will continue to remain important in your life.

In this episode of the EXECUpreneur's EDGE Podcast, I'm busting another nutrition myth that's circulated long enough...

Conventional Wisdom would have you believe that skipping breakfast leads to excessive hunger, cravings and weight gain. And if those aren’t bad enough, there is claim that skipping breakfast can cause your body to break down muscle for energy. Remember the asinine notion of “starvation mode”? (Click to read my blog post on ”Starvation Mode”.)

There is no science to back up this claim…and when traced back to the origination of this misinformation, I found marketing. Yep, you read that right. Specifically marketing for breakfast cereals of all things. Does the name Kellogg sound familiar?

The grain lobby threw their hat in the ring when the whole “Eating Fat Makes You Fat” movement erupted in the mid-1950’s after some junk science made its way mainstream. They saw their opportunity to fill a gap on people’s breakfast tables and they took it! (Click to read my blog post exposing the “Eating Fat Makes You Fat” lie.)

Let's settle the Breakfast debate once and for all...shall we?

Here's another fat fueling recipe to stoke the metabolic fire...and it's "break-fast-y"! https://drsamgraber.wordpress.com/2018/05/11/foodiefriday-sausage-egg-biscuit-breakfast-for-any-time-of-day/

Fear of failure is common for obvious reasons. People want success and yet only those who are brave enough to confront this type of fear are the ones able to rise above their fears and achieve whatever goals they have set for themselves. For those who were overcome by this fear, then they are prevented from realizing their potential.

The most destructive element entailed with the fear of failure is one’s inability to take criticism or feedback well. Instead, they tend to magnify the mistakes they have created along the way until it overtakes their mind such that it is difficult to get rid of them. There are also instances wherein the fear of failure is so immense that people tend to limit themselves to the point of not trying for fear of failing.

Let's explore a few ways to kick fear to the curb, shall we?

You won’t die. In fact you may feel better than ever if you dial back the carbage.

It’s common knowledge that carbohydrates provide glucose for use within the human body. Most cells use said glucose as a fuel source. When the body is glucose driven, it needs it…lots of it. The carbohydrate (carb) is the easiest macronutrient to breakdown into usable fuel…along with the messiest. Think coal when you think carbs.

As you’ve seen in old-time movies, shoveling coal into the train’s furnace creates billows of dark smoke and intense heat. Keeping that energy up requires a ton of coal, quite literally.

I'll be busting this myth in this episode of the EXECUpreneur's EDGE Podcast.

If you are continually looking at the world around you and seeing it the way you want it to be, rather than how it is, this is your EXECUpreneurial Spirit waiting to be unleashed. This is because at the core of the EXECUpreneurial Spirit is the ability to wonder what’s possible.

The EXECUpreneurial Spirit is usually boiled down to the six P’s: Passion, Path, Positivity, People, Perseverance, and Productivity. I’m not a fan of the word passion in this context. Passion is fleeting. Ask anyone who has been “in love”…now, I’m not dissing the lovebirds, I’m merely pointing to the fact that passion comes and goes. I prefer curiosity over passion. I am asked on the regular, “Do you think I have what it takes to be an entrepreneur?”

Short answer is an emphatic ”Yes”. The fact you are even asking that question is the key to flirting with entrepreneurial success. Bottom line is that you must be willing to assess, critique and forgive yourself to have the best shot at becoming a successful entrepreneur.

The truth is, just about anyone can be an entrepreneur. Seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harriet is claiming they’re an entrepreneur these days. There is no verification, nor certification. Nor should there be. It’s your gig to claim. Word of caution, beware from whom you take your entrepreneurial advice. Too many posers out there.

That aside, it does take a certain type of person to successfully tap into their inner entrepreneur.

The First E in the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE acronym is for Energy. Because without boundless energy you are practicing hope-and-pray success. And that is something successful EXECUpreneurs do not do.

Successful EXECUpreneurs seek guidance from those who have their best interest in mind, not the best interests of stockholders. They also know that their mental, emotional AND physical energy must be available 100% of the time so they can focus on the business at hand, not what’s for lunch!

One major distinguishing factor of EXECUpreneurs is their ability to think for themselves and they are in the habit of making decisions based upon fact, not fallacy. Unfortunately fallacy has been in the driver’s seat for far too long...and greed was riding shotgun.

Not a pretty combo, especially when it comes to nutritional “advice” handed down to the American public for the past 60 years, give or take.

In this episode, I have lovingly titled, ”Cholesterol Is Your Enemy”...and other Nutritional Nonsense You Should Ignore”, I will shine light on the cholesterol controversy with the intent to help you make your best and most informed decision.

When it comes to Energy, what you do and what you don’t do can play equally important roles when it comes to fueling our incredible bodies and brains...don’t leave out the brain for it is our most important business asset. And cholesterol is critical to its health...and the health of pretty much every cell in us.

The roadmap for most professional endeavors is lain out with some method to the madness.  Executives have a corporate ladder to climb, for the most part. Just ensure your ladder is not leaning against the wrong wall.

We entrepreneurs are not so lucky, on the whole.  There is no viable roadmap for us.  That is partially due to the wide breadth of areas in which we entrepreneurs do our thang.  Some go into service related ventures, others conceptualize a product and see it through to fruition.

If you are considering taking the leap and following your EXECUpreneurship dreams then you will want to develop “chops” to lay the proper foundation for cultivating long-term success.

In today’s episode, I’ll share 8 skills necessary to traverse most entrepreneurial ventures and grow some chops!

Jim Rohn, American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker was spot on…

“We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.”

Though Rohn passed over a decade ago, his wisdom still holds true today.

Cool thing…you get to choose which one on the daily.

Mr. Rohn also noted, “the pain of discipline is nothing like the pain of disappointment.”  Boy was he ever correct.

When you hear the term ‘self-discipline‘ what is your immediate response?

For a lot of people, they think about resisting urges, fighting, and repressing something that we want or want to do.  It’s a negative connotation that can affect your ability to practice self-discipline.  When you believe you’re forcing yourself to do something against your will it’s difficult to want to jump aboard.

In this episode of the EXECUpreneur's EDGE Podcast, I'll shed some light on self-discipline and how you build more of it!

A recent survey found that more than 70% of people want to be some sort of entrepreneur. That’s awesome and I’d happily welcome each and every one of them to the ranks!

I can see how entrepreneurship would be a seductive gig.  I could rattle off a whole litany of reasons.  Some of the more top-of-mind are pride, purpose, freedom, and the desire to make more money.

Good starting point, wouldn’t you agree?

Upside aside, starting and running your own business on a day-to-day basis is no easy task.  In fact, it can be downright brutal at times.  And a pursuit that is truly worth the effort…with one caveat.

That caveat is the proverbial “elephant in the room”.  Oh it’s there.  It’s big.  Massive even.  And it is eyeballin’ you my friend.

The pachyderm to whom I refer is the answer to one very important, seemingly simple question:  are YOU cut out for entrepreneurship?

I’m Samantha Graber, AKA Dr. Sam. I am so happy you found your way to The EXECUpreneur’s EDGE Podcast.  I wanted to give you a little peek into my world at this point in time.

I am loving the world of podcasting and look forward to growing this body of work to provide you with a unique, holistic perspective that I take full responsibility for and for which I make no apologies.

My prose is sometimes insightful, often nerdy, and occasionally serious.  I’m just a girl looking to change the world.

I believe that knowledge is power in reserve, and only becomes powerful once put into action!  Everyone needs to put in their own work to improve themselves.

Self-improvement spills over into every facet of life.  From personal to business.  Whether it’s to develop better relationships or to increase profits.

Working on one’s self is key.  And I will go so far to say that until we lead ourselves, we cannot effectively lead others...this goes for our team, our family, our clients and our communities.  This moves self-leadership to the front of the priority line, in my humble opinion.

Same goes for you. You too are a beautiful work in progress.

How many times have you started a “diet” but then you got off track and quit? A couple? 5? 10? If you’re like most people I’ve met, it is too many to count.

How about the number of business programs you’ve bought to improve your “shelf-esteem”? Shelf-esteem is built by shelves all across the world when they hold the thousands of binders full of brilliant information that their owners don’t act upon.

Have you noticed a recurring theme? The main character present at each production?

I told you I like to get right to the heart of the matter. It’s what a good coach does for her client.

The recurring theme is looking to some program or product for the answer. The main character is you and your tendency to look outside yourself for the answer.

I’m going to save you ridiculous amounts of money with this nugget right here…the answer lies within you. 100% of the time.

You don’t need some overpriced product, nor some fancy piece of software, nor the latest guru’s business system to “finally succeed.”

Every single thing you need lies within. You just need to tap into it.

Let’s wrap this up with a warm hug and some truth bombs, Dr. Sam Style on this episode of the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE Podcast.

In the spirit of taming our inner inebriated primate, we are going to unpack how to mind mindfulness.

Another way to be more present to your present is to practice
mindfulness. In other words, embrace life’s simplicity and describes the starting point for the practice of mindfulness.

Practice literally means 'being in the present, on purpose'.

The practice of mindfulness involves no end destination. The means and end do not differ. The simplicity of the practice requires more than a recipe or a set of instructions. Our whole being must become involved.

This is where attitudes and commitment, come into play.
Attitudes involve intention. Intention sets the stage for what mindfulness can make possible. This tutorial breaks down the seven core attitudes of mindfulness.

Nothing says more than when you say nothing at all.  Your self-confidence is a major factor in how you come across to others.  It boils down to the way you look, how you carry yourself, the way you enter a room and the words you use, both spoken and written.

Do you have the level of self-confidence you need to see through your EXECUpreneur-level goals and dreams?  Or do you need a little refining?

If you’re deluded enough to think you’ve got it all wired, good on ya...no need to listen on.

But if you’re like the rest of us, you can always use a little polishing of the good silver.  Sit a spell, listen intently and boost your self-confidence with me on the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE Podcast.

In this episode of the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE Podcast, we are staring FEAR in the face.  And telling it to “back down”.

Whether you subscribe to the notion that FEAR is "False Evidence Appearing Real", or to Zig Ziglar’s perspective that F-E-A-R has two meanings.  It stands for either "Forget Everything And Run" or "Face Everything And Rise", and as he stated, the choice is yours.

No matter which one resonates with you, the bottom line is that fear is not real.  Danger is real...and respecting said danger is smart.  But fear is a toothless paper tiger. And it is all in your head.

Let’s unpack the concept of FEAR together, on the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE Podcast.

This whole unlocking your passion thing is really as simple as finding what lights you up and doing that.

That said, why is it so difficult?

That’s a really good question. And one that literally took me decades to finally answer! But I answered it.

You see, it’s not really about finding your passion as much as it is finding something that ignites your curiosity to a level of all out obsession.

I’ve included a link to a printable PDF of my list of the Top 10 Qs Every EXECUpreneur's Soul Craves Answers To. Print it out and dig deep into one question a day, your soul will thank you.

If you’re interested in a deeper dive, grab my PDF “How To Uncover Your Passion & Purpose In A World With So Much Uncertainty”...it's an awesome catalyst for answering this bazillion dollar question!

A couple of these Qs are reeeeeal juicy...and they deserve your reeeeal answers. Not the ones your Momma told you you should give. Not the ones society told you you should accept with grace. And certainly not the one you chose “to be safe”. Now I’m all for having a safety net, minimum acceptable requirements, and all that practical stuff. In fact, yours truly probably shhhhould have prioritized those things a little more.

But this episode is not about me...it is about you.

It is about YOU uncovering that inner drive that makes you leap out of bed, for purpose is by far the best alarm clock ever invented!

How DO you find your purpose and passion?

You start by actively writing out your soul’s answers to these 10 Qs!

Today's episode is interactive. I’m going to walk alongside you. I’ll keep time (we do one minute per question)...this is so you are free to focus on simply answering from your soul. Don’t overthink any answer. Just write. Cryptic answers will suffice. No editing. No “What Would So & So Do”? No "What Would So & So Say"? This is all you…

Grab some paper and a pen/pencil (which is best for neurological purposes), or fire up your laptop/tablet, then find yourself a place in which you can be uninterrupted for 15-20 minutes. Get comfy, then hit play.

Now don’t put this off for a better time. Let's be real, that time will never really come, will it? Now is all we really have, so TIA it! Remember Step 1 of anything in life is, and always will be TIA...Take Immediate Action. No matter what module of the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE we are unpacking, taking immediate action is key!

I’ve included a link to a printable PDF of this 10 Q list. Print it out and dig deep into a question a day, for good purpose proposing practice. Say that 3 times fast, dare ya!

In this episode, we will wrap up the 12 Steps with a little pillow talk and a whole lot of straight talk. For what kind of EXECUpreneur Change Agent would I be if I didn’t call you to the mat on the regular?

I'll introduce you to insulin's nemesis (Step #10), share my power pack of 7 ways to stack the sleep deck in your favor (Step #11), and circle back to our first step as we dive into our final step for that is the foundation for obtaining all things you so deeply desire in the shortest amount of time possible (Step #12).

We'll also do a little BONUS gut check. Literally and figuratively.

Be sure to grab my cheatsheet “The EXECUpreneur’s EDGE 12-Step Program for a Body & Mind That Just Won’t Quit!” This concise visual will help prioritize your actions to get the results you desire from your body and your brain. These 3 steps are the support staff of the "EXECUpreneur's E.D.G.E 12-Step Strategy for a Body & Brain That Just Won't Quit". Without these 3, you’ll be spinning your metabolic wheels.

Remember the 2-fold process I discussed in episode #4, “Now for the Meat of the EXECUpreneur’s EDGE...Hold the Potatoes”?

In addition to ceasing the onslaught of havoc-wreaking carbs, we’ve got to use up what’s already been shoved into every cellular nook & cranny. Then flush it out.

This is the 2...3 punch this trio brings to the ring.

These 3 steps are your secret weapon when it comes to gaining the EDGE in business...heck, in life! When combined, this trio literally shifts your metabolism from an inefficient glucose burner to a top-of-the-line fat burner.

In today’s episode I’ll share my protein hierarchy and why it’s critical to be getting enough of the right stuff (Step #4) to optimize your body composition. Visit my blog at drSAMgraber.com and search for "hierarchy".

We’ll move from making sure you get enough, to ensuring you stay below your setpoint on this macronutrient in Step #5. When we consume too much of this seemingly innocuous macro (short for macronutrient), your efforts to shift your metabolism are thwarted.

We’ll round out the conversation with Step #6, which is my favorite! (Don’t tell the others!) Now, this is my favorite step because I spent decades avoiding this friendly, and advised thousands to do the same (still forgiving myself for that one). I am quite sure you have avoided it too. We bought into Conventional Wisdom and got robbed...when you embrace Step #6, you’ll get your groove back and leave that brain fog in the past, where it belongs!

Be sure to grab my cheatsheet “The EXECUpreneur’s EDGE 12-Step Program for a Body & Mind That Just Won’t Quit!” (https://www.execupreneursedge.com/energy) By having a concise visual to work from to prioritize your actions, you’ll stack the success deck in your favor...in turn, ensuring cooperation between your body and brain.

These 3 steps pack a wallop, so I chose them to kick off our Proper Care and Feeding of the EXECUpreneur series...

When you embody Step #1, you’ll gain the momentum every EXECUpreneur needs.

When Step #2 is followed, you'll know what to change when things stop working...they always do. This is where adaptability comes in.

We’ll wrap up today’s episode with Step #8...this one is the Grand-Poobah of the 12-Step Program. If you only implement one of the 12 Steps, this is the one to live by. (But seriously, why implement only one...that would be silly and ridiculous!)

Your mindset is a complex living organism (of sorts), in and of itself. It is malleable, tweakable, and completely do-over-able.

Or you can lock it in for the most part through the strategy I’ll share along the way through the EXECUpreneur's EDGE podcast.

Who you are, what you think, your personal habits, your attitude, your thoughts and your beliefs will determine the results you get. Regardless of what you do for a living. Developing an EXECUpreneurial mindset is one of the best things you can do to stack the deck in favor of your ultimate success, in all aspects of life, let alone business.

You see, EXECUpreneurs are a peculiar bunch.

They don’t follow the crowd. They’re the ones forging a new path.

Overall, their lives are very rewarding as a result of their unique mindset. This type of mindset helps you to challenge yourself to recognize, overcome, and change what isn’t working in your life. In any, and all, of its multitude of facets.

As an EXECUpreneur, you have to quickly come to the understanding that your mindset IS your business.

So...which of the 5 P’s and 1 C needs a little focus from you?
