New Community Church (NCC) is located in Tacoma, WA and is a group of diverse people who are living a gospel-centered life together in communities. This podcast includes weekly teaching from NCC leaders and friends, as well as various topics from special events and from our Confluence family of churches.
Bo Noonan kicks off our new series: Becoming New Community Church by diving into the amazing truth of being "one new man in Christ". The truth about the Church is that we are a miracle! We are the profound work of God doing the impossible through his son Jesus: he has taken separated, dead enemies and made us into fully alive children of God! Because of this, we are not just a gathering of people or a social club; instead, we are the redeemed people of God, created in the Christ Jesus for good works. We are the miraculous work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit...we are the Church!
Bo Noonan teaches through the last line in the Lord's prayer: lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. In the Lord's prayer we learn to believe what Jesus believed and to pray as he prayed, and he ends his prayer in a somewhat surprising way. From this ending, we can see that his desire for his people is that we are delivered from Satan and his ways and that we find fulness of life in our Father in heaven and his ways.
Mark Knutson teaches through the phrase "forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors" during our teaching series through the Lord's Prayer.
Andy Cooley teaches through the phrase "give us this day our daily bread" during our teaching series through the Lord's Prayer.
Bo Noonan teaches through the phrase "your kingdom come, your will be done" in our series on the Lord's prayer. In this teaching he focuses on three questions: 1) What is the kingdom? 2) Why ask for the kingdom to come? and 3) How should we pray for the kingdom come?
Willy Verduzco from Origen Church in Guadalajara, Mexico - part of our Confluence family of churches - encourages us as a family of churches to sow the seed of our lives, just as Jesus did, for the joy of many people coming to know Jesus and his love. He encourages us from the book of Isaiah to "enlarge our houses" and to fix our eyes on Jesus and his mission.
Rhys Scott from Trinity Central Church in Vancouver, BC - part of our Confluence family of churches - takes us on a tour of the life of Elijah, helping us see the deep and amazing truth of God's great care for his people. God walked with Elijah in times of triumph, depression, and recommissioning. As individuals, as churches, and as a family, God is doing the same with us. Rhys calls us to be open to God resetting us, calling us and recommissioning us into mission.
Bo Noonan kicks off Celebration NW 2024 by laying out the biblical vision of how being churches rooted in joy will lead us into the mission of Jesus. Joy is the awareness of the grace of Jesus, and as we see throughout the life of Paul, that awareness of grace brought a contentment that allowed him to endure all things so that many could come to know Jesus.
Sam Poe teaches through the surprising Psalm 110. So many years before the birth of Jesus, we see the plans of Father God for the salvation of his people through the One who would be Prophet, Priest, and King. God's plan for the restoration of relationship and blessing is vast and wonderful, and it continues for us today!
Waymond Hampton teaches through "hallowed be your name" in our series on the Lord's Prayer. He starts with the story of God revealing his name to his people at the Exodus, and paints of picture of how "hallowed be your name" is a call to come under the beautiful authority of "our Father in heaven". Just as Jesus submitted to his Father's will in all things, we are called to submit as well - by not allowing any other name to be hallowed in our lives and by laying down divisions and partisanship for the sake of others.
Abi Sovereign teaches on the first two words of the Lord's Prayer: Our Father. Encapsulated in these two words is the truth of Jesus' good news - the fact that our relationship with the God of the Universe has come to bring restored relationship between him and his creation! From Jesus, we find what it is to live in this restored relationship and to be daughters and son of our Father in heaven, both now and forever.
Bo Noonan kicks off our new series on Jesus prayer from Matthew 6 by looking at a few other verses from the same chapter. Specifically, verses 5-8 where Jesus talks about how NOT to pray. Prayer is a key way we conform our hearts into the image of Jesus' heart. It is a relational practice with our Father by which we are spiritually formed. How? By practicing our position as daughters and sons who are welcomed into the presence of our Father.
Joe Miriello teaches on the foundational truth of God's light and order breaking in to the darkness and chaos of the world. As we hear the words of Jesus, and become doers of them, God's light increases in and through us - bringing the goodness of the kingdom of God into our lives, circumstances, and the world around us.
Bo Noonan teaches about our foundational belief of what will happen at the end of the world. What we believe about the end of this world will shape the way we live our lives now. While many people twist the words of the Bible to create a narrative of fear, when we look to Jesus' words we find that his plan, and the plan of the Trinity of God, is not annihilation but restoration. Jesus will all things new! According to Jesus, our end times beliefs should lead us to hope, joy, and the sharing of his good news so that many, many people from every nation, tribe, and tongue will enter in to his eternal family.
Alastair Moyer teaches on the foundation of the Church. The beauty and power of God's people living life together is seen clearly in scripture. As his children, we now have to privilege of living in the current reality of every nation and language being unified in relationships and eternal purposes as those who have submitted our lives to the work of Jesus, our savior.
Bo Noonan teaches on the foundation of salvation through the work of Jesus. This salvation IS for all of eternity future, but it encompasses more than just the future, it is a present truth that we can live in today!
Bo Noonan shares about the foundational biblical truth of original sin. If we have a wrong view of sin we will have a wrong view of everything in the world that matter. The Bible is clear about sin, its effects on humanity and creation, and the solution to it. Sin cannot be overcome by "getting better", rather, it is overcome by Jesus - and our desire for him and his ways.
Wes Swarthout teaches on the biblical foundation of community. From all eternity past, even before Creation, God himself was in a perfect and loving community as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From the beginning of humanity's creation, we see that we have been created to enjoy and live as a part of that same community. Jesus died to make a way for us to live in that community now and to enjoy it forever. Now, we can live out this truth as the Church! This is not a social club or an emotional support group, but rather a family of people that is invited to enjoy and mirror the beauty of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Bo Noonan teaches on the Biblical call to build a foundation of learning to be with Jesus, be like Jesus, and do what Jesus did through discipleship - or apprenticeship to Jesus. This is not just a cultural construct, but a way of life that Jesus himself showed us and called us to.
Bo Noonan expounds on the amazing and beautiful truth that the God of the Bible is a Trinity. This truth is breathtaking and life-changing, and it is a foundation worth building our lives upon. God the Father has always existed as a Father in perfect loving relationship with the eternal Son and the Holy Spirit. Now, we have been invited into that same wonderful relationship that gives us eternal purpose and life!
Bo Noonan teaches on the foundational truth of the God of Christianity and the Bible. God reveals himself as one who can be both known and experienced. He also reveals himself as one who us self-sustaining and in need of nothing and no one. The humbling (and liberating) truth is that, in and of ourselves, we can't live with him and we can't live without him. Yet, because of our mediator, Jesus, we can be welcomed into his presence to both know him and experience him.
Andy Cooley kicks off our Foundations series by teaching on God's word and the beautiful fact that God spoke and continues to speak today.
Bo Noonan finishes our series Come Home by looking one last time at Luke 15, where we see God's commitment to find what has been lost. In this teaching we take time to look more deeply into the biblical truths of justification and sanctification. If we misunderstand the differences in these two truths we can find ourselves trying to earn God's love rather than learning to receive it as a gift we never could earn. God's joy, and all of heaven's joy, is MASSIVE towards each of us who has been found! As we meditate on this truth it motivates our loving obedience - not to earn God's love, but to live out the truth that he knows what is best for us!
Our good friend Jeremiah Pervez shares from his personal experience and from God's word, teaching us how to view suffering, persecution, and hope. As we bring our pain to Jesus' feet, offering it to him, he converts it to honor. As we bring our bitterness to him, offering it to him, he converts it to hope. This is grace...and undeserved gift from Jesus himself because he has known pain and converted it into something glorious...our salvation.
Bo Noonan teaches through Luke 15:11-23, the story of the prodigal son in our series Come Home. He takes a deeper dive into the concept of "coming home" and how Jesus came to make a way for humanity to do just that.
Bo Noonan teaches through Luke 15, where we find the great lengths God will go to find what he lost...his children whom he so greatly loves. On this Easter we begin a new series about the Prodigal Son story, which exposes our hearts to God's lavish love, grace, mercy, and desire to be in restored relationship with us.
Wes Swarthout teaches from Luke 19 - a story known as Jesus' Triumphal Entry. In this story we see Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey - a symbol of both peace and royalty. He comes with the express purpose of going to the cross to accomplish his Father's work. He is intentional and intense, yet, instead of riding a war horse to declare war on Israel's enemies, he enters on a donkey to bring peace and to bring ultimate victory over sin and death - our spiritual enemies. With great grief and great hope he submits himself to his Father's will. In doing all of this, he also extends this same work to our lives today, inviting us to submit ourselves to his ultimate act of love.
Miguel Villahermosa teaches through a biblical survey of worship throughout the Old and New Testaments. Throughout the Bible we see worship as a submitting of our will and our heart to God, as well as numerous actions that can follow. Worship includes praise through music, but it also includes much more.
Waymond Hampton teaches through Luke 1 in our Lenten miniseries on Luke. In Luke 1 the birth and lives of John the Baptist and Jesus are foretold to their parents. These foretellings speak of amazing promises, yet the way each story is lived out is full of both triumph and incredible difficulty. In a culture that tells us "you can do anything you set your mind to" and "anything is possible" we need the truth of God's word to help us see how crucial it is to submit our stories to the One who is writing The Story.
Bo Noonan finishes up our series Life in Bablyon by teaching through Daniel 10-12. In these verses we have more apocalyptic and prophetic teaching from Daniel. Once again, we need to remember that this type of teaching is full of symbolism, but that symbolism is meant to point us to the final victory of Jesus and not to confusion and fear. As the book of Daniel finishes, we see that even when chaos is all around, God is still working good and working his plan. This perspective helps us: even if most of the chapters of our lives are painful, we have a promise from God that, in the end, it will all make sense because he is both the author and perfecter of our faith.
Carl Medford teaches through Daniel chapter 9, where we find another set of dreams that Daniel shares with God's people. As we mentioned in our last teaching, these "apocalyptic" or "prophetic" texts are not meant to confuse and cause fear, but rather to help us look to our savior and king, Jesus, and the sovereignty of God, our good Father. May we be encouraged to actively learn to listen and to live a life of faith!
Bo Noonan teaches through Daniel 7 and 8. Here we find the beginning of a large section of what is called "apocalyptic literature", which talks about things that will happen in the future in a way that uses lots of imagery. How we read and interpret this type of scripture is incredibly important. We need to remember that scripture is not meant to lead to confusion and fear, but faith in God's sovereignty. It's also helpful to remember that it was written to particular people at a particular time, so we need to try to read it with the same perspective that it's original hearers would have heard it. Buckle up as we try to bring clarity to what can be a confusing section of scripture and build faith in Jesus, his authority, and his ultimate victory over sin and death!
Bo Noonan teaches through Daniel chapter 6 in our Life in Babylon series. Here we see the aftermath of last week's "writing on the wall" as a new king is now in charge. An 80+ year old Daniel finds himself back at center stage as the new king puts him in a place of great authority, but the king's advisors are far from pleased with Daniel and his status. As a result, they play to the king's ego and formulate a plan for Daniel's death in a den of lions. Daniel's courage and faith are both amazing, but they don't make him the hero, rather they point us to the fact that Daniel had consistently been trusting the true here of this book of scripture - God himself. The question arises in this story, "Where does Daniel's courage and trust in God's faithfulness come from?" The answer is seen throughout the story thus far: Daniel built up is courage and trust in God through consistent little things throughout his life. As a result, when the big things came, he was ready to exercise the muscles of courage and faith. We can trust the hero as well through consistent exercise of trusting in God and his ways.
Bo Noonan teaches through chapter 5 of Daniel in our series Life in Babylon. Seventy years have past between chapters 4 and 5, and here we find the grandson of Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, throwing a massive party that centers around a boast that the gods of Babylon are greater than the Lord God of the Hebrews. As a result of this boast, God himself writes a message on the wall of the palace that must once again be interpreted by Daniel, who is now in his 80s. The message is one of judgement, yet in that message, we can clearly see the magnificence of God's grace to those who trust him with their lives. Whereas Belshazzar's days were numbered, he was placed in God's scales and found wanting, and his kingdom was about to be divided, Jesus gives us eternal hope, he did away with the scales by taking God's justice upon himself, and he promises to make us whole. This is the good news of Jesus!
Bo Noonan teaches through chapter 4 of Daniel in our Life in Babylon series. Here we see king Nebuchadnezzar narrate his own story of God's humbling power through a time of pre-prophesied madness. In the story we see the love and care that Daniel has cultivated toward the king, as well as God's grace as he gives the king time to repent and trust him. In the story we see a clear picture of a man's pride and God's grace to allow suffering to humble him and change his life, and the life of others, for good. As we realize that God is the main character and author of the Story of humanity, it frees us to live a life of trust in his goodness, grace, mercy, and providence, rather than trying to control our own circumstance or take credit for things that we don't have control over.
Bo Noonan teaches through Daniel chapter 3 in our series Life in Babylon, where we are learning how to live as faithful witnesses of God's goodness in a dark and hostile world. In this chapter we find Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego standing together in faithfulness and enduring a fiery furnace, as they defy the king's orders to bow down to a statue proclaiming him as a god. Even though we may not be called to bow down to physical statues, we are often tempted to bow our wills to cultural norms - like deifying politics, money, sports, or escapism. As we see from the three Hebrew boys, community and a plan BEFORE the moment of temptation will serve us well.
Andy Cooley teaches through Daniel chapter 2 in our series Life in Babylon. Here we see Daniel and his three friends coming face to face with a situation that puts their faith to the test...not for the last time. As a people who have been removed from their homes and are being actively indoctrinated by an evil culture, how will they react? God, in his wisdom, sends letters from the prophet Jeremiah to speak clearly to his people in exile. Through these letters, faith is strengthened and a call to "do good in the city of Bablyon" is lived out by Daniel and his friends. They submit to God's ways and exchange their understanding of the world for his.
Bo Noonan kicks off Life in Bablyon, a new series through the book of Daniel. In this series we will see how to be a faithful witness of Jesus and his ways in times of moral corruption, spiritual confusion, and political fragmentation...like the times we live in today. As we begin the series, we get context for the dire situation and the amazing faith that gets lived out as a group of young men trust God himself to be their hero. We also see that whenever the culture of Babylon - a biblical term for any non-biblical colonising culture - tries to form us into its image, we can learn to engage in faith, rather than assimilating into or separating from the culture. This truth will be a main theme as the series progresses.

Bo Noonan finishes our Advent series by teaching on JOY. He shows us that joy is not circumstantial, rather it is sourced in God himself and can be ours because of the coming of Jesus to save us and add us into his eternal family. Through Jesus we can have eternal joy starting now!
Bo Noonan teaches on the Advent theme of LOVE from 1 John 4:7-21. Here we see a letter written about biblical love from the perspective of a person who lived with Love incarnate. John learned what and who love was by being with Jesus, and he relates the truth of love at work in our lives as we submit to the truth that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.
Bo Noonan teaches about Peace in week 2 of our Advent series. He walks through the story of how God freed his people from slavery in the book of Exodus and how we too are freed from slavery to sin - both physically and spiritually, which brings the ultimate peace.
Bo Noonan kicks off our 2023 Advent series by digging into the HOPE we have through Jesus. In a culture of "get it now" we are called to be a people who grow in our capacity to wait in hopeful expectation for what will be revealed when Jesus returns. Yet, there is also a wonderfully rich experience in the right now of his presence, which serves as just a taste of what that day will ultimately be like.
Bo Noonan finishes our series The Upper Room by looking at John 18:1-18, where Jesus leads his disciples to a garden. There he will be arrested, led to the high priest to be tried, and ultimately crucified for the sins of all humanity. There is huge significance to Jesus being in the garden and saying yes to his Father's will, as this is the opposite of Adam and Eve's choice to follow their own way in a garden at the beginning of all things. Here Jesus changes everything...forever.
Bo Noonan teaches through John 17, taking a deeper dive into what it means for Jesus to be our High Priest. In Jesus' "high priestly prayer" he pulls back the curtain on what he is about to do through his life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension...and what he shows us is breathtaking!
Lonnie Arnold shares from Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane in John 17 during our series The Upper Room. In this prayer we find the beauty of reconciliation and Jesus' prayer that, as the Church, we would be one as he and the Father are one. We also find the amazing truth that God the Father loves us, as followers of Jesus, with the same quality and quantity as Jesus himself!
Bo Noonan teaches from John 16:5-33 in our series The Upper Room. Here we find Jesus' last words of teaching before he is arrested and crucified. In these last words we find the thesis statement for the Upper Room teaching, which is summed up in "don't let your hearts be troubled...believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." Jesus' main "why" for not being troubled, having, peace, and trusting in a positive outcome for his death is that he is not alone and neither are they. God has forever been in relationship as a Trinity and will continue to be so as Jesus goes to the Father and they send the Holy Spirit. This can be our peace as well!
Bo Noonan teaches through John 15:16-16:4 in our series "The Upper Room". In this scene, Jesus lays out the truth that the systems of the world will hate his followers. This warning is not meant to instill fear, but rather to further help them see their need to abide in him, his love, and his sending of the Holy Spirit. Our response to hatred is not to respond in-kind, but rather to respond with the same love that Jesus responds with.
Bo Noonan teaches as we continue in our series "The Upper Room." As Jesus and his disciples are departing from the Passover meal, Jesus shares a metaphor for his, the Father's, and our relationship to one another. This metaphor is packed with loads of meaning for the original hearers. Jesus speaks of God that Father as a "vinedresser" who tends lovingly to each individual branch of a vine that is meant to find its health and fruit-bearing potential from the main vine, who is Jesus. We are the branches that are meant to be connected to the True Vine and carefully tended by the Vinedresser.
Wes Swarthout teaches through John 14:25-31 in our series The Upper Room. Even on a night that Jesus knew would end in his arrest and, ultimately, his crucifixion, Jesus cares for his disciples emotional and spiritual health. He shares his heart for them in no uncertain terms, letting them know that they will be greatly cared for by the empowering of the Holy Spirt, who will give them peace, joy, faith, and an unwavering belief in God's sovereignty.
Andy Cooley teaches through John 14:10-24 in our series "The Upper Room". As we continue through this final evening of Jesus with his disciples, we find a scene where Jesus is actively taking them from just being just "followers" to being restored as "family." This evening is full of the language of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and in this part of the conversation, Jesus speaks of our hearts and actions being changed as we find ourselves "in him".
Bo Noonan teaches through John 14:1-11 in our series "The Upper Room." In these verses Jesus speaks of leaving to prepare a place for those who are a part of his family. In the cultural language of the day, this is the language of a groom preparing a place for his bride to be with him and to become a part of his family. Jesus purposefully uses this language to help his disciples see the significance of his leaving. He is saying, "I am becoming the way for you to be in my Father's family." Jesus is the way to the Father, the truth of how to have relationship restored with him, and the source of eternal life that comes through that restored relationship.
Bo Noonan teaches through John 13:21-38 in our Upper Room series. This week we see the love of Jesus on display as we move ever closer to Jesus' willing sacrifice of his life. "Right now you cannot follow me" he tells his disciples. Follow him where? Into the darkness of death...a darkness that would soon be overcome to bring about eternal light. Jesus was in the process of making a way, not only for his disciples, but for all humankind, to follow him into a restored relationship with the Father.
Bo Noonan teaches from John 13:1-20 as we kick off our new series: The Upper Room - Words of Life from Jesus. This series will take us through the last meal Jesus had with his disciples and his farewell discourse to them. The depth of teaching, significance, and love that is displayed in this scene is magnificent. In part one, we see Jesus show what it means to be a part of, and to lead in, his kingdom, as he stoops to the lowest place of indignity to serve his friends by washing their feet.
Abi Soveriegn teaches from Psalm 96. She encourages us with the call in this Psalm to sing out loud to the Lord; laying out the many benefits of lifting our voices to him. She then walks us through the truth that there is nothing on earth worth giving ourselves to other than the him. Everything else pales in comparison.
Senator Scott teaches from Psalms 130 and 131, where we see two songs that were sung on the way to the city of Jerusalem. In ancient times this could be a perilous journey full of fear and anxiousness. As these Psalms were sung, they would remind the singers to look to the Lord in the midst of fearful and anxious situations because he would surely hold them, even in the midst of difficulty. The same is true for us today as we look to our trustworthy and sure Father.
Andy Johnson teaches from Psalm 107, where we see a Psalm structured in a way that helps us see the beauty and strength of trusting in the Lord. We see a beautiful reminder that even the most dire circumstances can change when the Lord intervenes.
Bryan Mowery shares about our need to make much of Jesus and the call to love, equip, and release emerging generations.
Our good friend from a country that is under intense persecution shares about how God meets us and helps us as individuals, as families, and as churches, thrive in the midst of pain, suffering, and persecution.

Carl Medford teaches through Psalm 8, a Psalm that helps us see humankind's place in God's created order. In this Psalm we see that humans were created with a destiny to rule and reign over God's good creation, yet sin has undermined this. In an act of pure grace, God defeated sin and has brought us back into a life of ruling and reigning once we come under and apprentice to Jesus' ways, the ways of listening to and obeying God the Father.
Andy Cooley teaches from Psalm 90, a psalm of trust in the Lord and contentment in his ways. What does it mean to find true contentment in life? How is true and lasting happiness achieved? The Bible, and this song in particular, have a lot to say in regards to these questions.
Bo Noonan teaches from Psalm 29, a psalm of praise. This psalm uses beautifully powerful imagery to help us see that creation, in all its power and glory, is just a finger that points us to the truly glorious one...God himself. As we live life, we can listen to God's voice speaking through many created things, yet we should be careful to let those things point us to the one who created them, and not be enamoured by the things themselves.
Bo Noonan teaches from Psalm 27; a Psalm of trouble. As we continue to see in the Psalms, we are learning language for our souls. As human beings we are in a constant conversation with ourselves, and what we say to ourselves about God will shape the way we respond to things. In Psalm 27 David starts with good theology and ends with good theology, and instead of running from troubles, he calls out for the presence of his good Father in the midst of his troubles, not denying them, but embracing God in the midst of them.
Bo Noonan teaches from Psalm 24. This Psalm is the culmination of the story of David's desire to build a "house for the Lord" and the realisation that David's uncleanness prevented him from this desire. Yet, God's plan was to turn that tables and to build a house for David. Through David's lineage, or house, a savior would come who would take upon himself, not just David's uncleanness, but all of humanity's uncleanness as well.
Bo Noonan teaches through Psalm 51. Here we find King David before the Lord, actively repenting of a series of terrible decisions in his life. In this Psalm we find language for repentance and the truth that, when we sin, the most offended party is always God himself. Yet, his grace and mercy always welcome us back into relationship with him.
Bo Noonan teaches from Psalm 4 in our "Jesus' Songbook" series through the Psalms. Psalm 4 is a Psalm of David, written during an incredibly difficult situation in his life. This Psalm helps us learn how to react when difficulty comes our way, as we see David turn to his loving Father God instead of away from him. We also see Jesus' work and story in this Psalm as the one who suffered alone and took on our death so we could live with him for eternity.

Bo Noonan teaches about the return of Jesus as we end our series "You really believe that?". He unpacks the fact that Jesus's followers are an "end times" people who are awaiting the fullness of his return. We are those awaiting the coming of a new heaven and a new earth and the restoration of all things, rather than those looking to escape to some place in the sky.
Bo Noonan teaches about the Christian ethic. He underlines the importance of discerning between cultural and religious rules and morality versus what the Bible clearly lays out as a loving Father's ethics. What does it mean to come under the law of love in a culture that may use the word "love" differently than the Bible? Why is the Christian sexual ethic what it is? We look at some of these questions from a biblical viewpoint.
Joe Miriello looks at four aspects of how the good news of Jesus brings healing to the curse of sin. Restoration from sin's effects begins as we respond to the incredible work that Jesus accomplished on the cross.
Bo Noonan continues our series on foundational beliefs of followers of Jesus. This week we look at the sin that plagues us from a biblical perspective. This teaching is so important, because, as we will see, if we have a wrong view of sin we will have a wrong view of everything in the world that really matters. As big of a statement as that is, it isn't an overstatement.

In a time where the word "church" is used for lots of different gatherings of people that may or may not actually follow Jesus, we need to look to the Bible for a clear definition. The beautiful picture the Bible paints of the Church is one of a bride who is both getting ready for a wedding ceremony and is deeply, deeply loved by her groom, Jesus. This takes some unpacking, but is both beautiful and challenging as we come under the Bible's authority.

Waymond Hampton closes out our Laying it Down series by teaching on laying down compartmentalization. Our culture conditions us to break our lives into different "rooms" that don't tend to overlap one another, and this can cause us to live a disjointed spiritual life. As we apprentice to Jesus, though, the walls can come down and we can become attentive to God's voice in all situations, living a life of restored relationship with the Father, just as Jesus did.
Bo Noonan teaches about laying down the power that money and possessions can have on us. According to God's word, money is not a neutral thing, but rather has power to do either good or harm. As we apprentice to Jesus, we learn to find purpose in the way we spend, save, and give in ways that build God's kingdom, rather than our own little kingdoms.
Wes Swarthout teaches about laying down our need for approval. Because of what Jesus has done, we can moved from seeking approval to accepting and living in the grace, love, mercy, and secure identity that comes from being hidden in the work of Jesus.
Bo Noonan teaches on the difficult but necessary discipline of laying down unforgiveness. In Matthew 18, Jesus shares a parable of amazing significance in response to Peter's question, "How many times do I have to forgive my brother?" Forgiveness is an act of faith. Faith that God has forgiven us more than we understand, and faith that his justice will be justly served - whether we see it in our lifetime or not.
Bo Noonan teaches about the spiritual discipline of fasting. Fasting is laying down our desires, wants, and even needs, in order to feast on God and his provision. It prepares us for life as we rely on our Father, rather than the things of the world. Laying down our own desires is a hallmark of following Jesus, the ultimate example of a life laid down.
In the final part of our series through the book of Job, Bo Noonan unpacks the the final scenes. Here we find Job standing as a mediator between his friends and God - a picture of what Jesus will one day accomplish. Additionally, we see the beautiful picture of a restored life as God blesses Job with a bountiful end to his days on earth.
Bo Noonan teaches during part 6 of Why, God, why? If you are looking for part 5, we apologize, but due to a technical error it was not recorded. As for part 6, we find Job in a place of contriteness before the Lord, and the Lord continuing to see the power, majesty, order, and complete control that he has over all creation - both physical and spiritual. Rather that belittling Job, the Lord is showing him that he is completely dependent upon a God who is personal AND powerful.
Bo Noonan teaches in part 4 of "Why, God, why?" Here we find a long monologue by Job that is raw, honest, and all over the place. In his suffering Job is honest before God and he lays it three truths that are worth digging into: 1) Humans have an amazing capacity to explore, 2) humankind has profound limitations, 3) our biggest need is for wisdom...which can only be found in God himself.
Joe Miriello teaches part 3 of our "Why, God, why?" series. In the midst of brutal pain and suffering we find a different kind of torment; that of misapplied and misdirected truth coming from his very own friends. His suffering continues, yet Job will not curse God. Instead, he calls out for a mediator and intercessor, and it is here that Job finds, and we find, hope. There is a redeemer, one who makes sense of our suffering, the Suffering Savior, Jesus.
Bo Noonan teaches part 2 of Why, God, why? Our series on the life of Job. In part one we got a behind the scenes picture of a crucial conversation in heaven that gives context to the attacks on Job's livelihood and family. Part two helps us see that Job was prepared for suffering, and his response is very instructive to God's people. Job mourned and Job worshipped God.
Bo Noonan kicks off "Why, God, why?" a teaching series through the book of Job. In Job 1:1-12 we get a behind the scenes look at a conversation in heaven between God and Satan. It gives the readers of Job an overview of what is about to happen...and why. Without this key bit of context we cannot get a clear picture of what's about to happen, and how this book gives us a greater picture of the story of grace, hope, and redemption.

As Jesus ascended to be with the Father, he promised that one just like him would come and be IN his disciples. This teaching works through scripture to help clarify and lead us into being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 16:9-20, which most scholars believe to be an added bit of encouragement for future readers of the letter. Bo gives some scholarly context to these verses and calls out their biblical encouragement to be equipped by Jesus for the mission he has called us to.
Andy Cooley teaches through Mark 16:1-13 where the forces of life and death collide in Jesus. In him, we see the reverse of the curse of sin unravel. Because Jesus was without sin, death had no right to him, and when we are found in him, it no longer has a right to us.

Even in the face of the horrors of human depravity, while hanging between heaven and earth, Jesus continued to care for others and to do the beautiful work of bringing the rule and reign of God to humanity.

Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 14:1-11. There we see two distinctly different responses to Jesus. The first is a woman who gives away her inheritance to anoint Jesus with costly perfume. The second is Judas's decision to betray Jesus due to what he sees as a waste of resources. One saw Jesus for who he really was, the Messiah, the other saw him as a sham and a waste.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 13:1-37 where Jesus leaves the Temple tells his followers of its coming destruction, which will occur in 66-70AD. In so doing, he prepares them to lead through the midst of difficulty. Some have wrongly thought Jesus is speaking about the end of the world, but, rather, he is speaking about a moment in history that has already happened. That said, we can take great comfort and courage today from Jesus' encouragement to his disciples, who would face much difficulty and suffering.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 12:35-44 where Jesus sheds enormous light on the true nature of the Messiah. Just as a lowly widow gives all she has due to her trust to God, the Messiah will all he has as well.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 12:28-34, where Jesus is asked the question, "What is the greatest commandment?" Jesus not only answered the question, but he lived out that answer fully.
Joe Miriello teaches through Mark 12:18-27 where the religious and political leaders once again try to trap Jesus, this time through a misinterpretation of the Law of Moses and questions about resurrection. Jesus again shows his masterful knowledge of the God's Law.

There we see the religious leaders trying to trap Jesus through politics so they can do away with him and his teaching. Instead of falling into their trap, Jesus shows them the beauty of a life submitted to God and his rule and reign.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 11:27-12:12 where Jesus is confronted by the religious leaders once again. When asked where he receives his authority to do what he does, Jesus responds with another questions and a pointed parable that reveals deep truths about both the religious leaders and Jesus himself.

Alissa Cooley teaches from Psalm 84 and John 20. Psalm 84 tells us that "better is one day in God's courts than a thousand elsewhere" - but how do we get there, and are we invited? The story of Mary Magdalene helps us find the answers.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 8:22-33, where we see two parallel stories of being gradually healed of blindness. In the first story, Jesus heals a man of physical blindness. At first the man's sight is blurry, but by the end it is fully clear. In a similar way, Peter begins to see Jesus, albeit in a blurry way, as the Messiah (or the Christ). His spiritual blindness has started to be healed, yet he is still seeing things in a blurry way.
Wes Swarthout teaches through Mark 8:1-21 where we see Jesus feed another massive group of people and then get berated by the Pharisees. He takes the opportunity to warn his disciples to protect themselves from the wrong thinking and teaching of the religious and political elite.
Bo Noonan teaches from Mark 7:24-37 where we find Jesus the same grace and mercy toward Gentiles (non-Jewish people) as he does toward "God's people." We see that faith and humility are greatly rewarded by him no matter what ethnic or social background they come from.
Bo Noonan teaches from Mark 7:1-23 where Jesus is once again confronted by the religious leaders. This time they are offended because Jesus and his disciples don't follow the traditions that the Jewish elders have created. Jesus, in no uncertain terms, lets them know that it is not what is outside of a person that makes them unclean, but rather the uncleanness of their own hearts - which are in desperate need of cleansing.

Andy Cooley teaches from Mark 6:45-56 where we see Jesus saving his disciples from political fanaticism, modeling faith in his Father, and proving his divinity by continuing to show his power over the physical world.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 6:31-44 where crowds of people follow Jesus expecting to get equipped to start a revolution and overthrow the Roman government. Instead of a revolution of triumphalism, he calls his followers to a revolution of humility.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 6:1-30, where we see a sandwich of events: after Jesus is rejected by in his childhood hometown, he sends the disciples with the same authority he has been given. As they go, Mark tells the story of John the Baptist's brutal death. The reality of difficulty and rejection are ever-present, yet there is still hope.
Waymond Hampton teaches through Mark 5:21-43, where we see Jesus' attempt to heal a 12-year-old girl interrupted by a woman in need of, not only healing, but reinstatement into society. As Jesus both heals and affirms the woman the young girl dies, yet that isn't the end of the story. Jesus not only has power over sickness, but also death!
Andy Cooley teaches through Mark 4:35-41, where we see an exhausted Jesus and his disciples traveling in a boat to a new destination. A huge storm arises, revealing both helpful and unhelpful fear in the hearts of the disciples.
Bo Noonan teaches through Mark 4:21-34, where Jesus continues to teach with parables. These parables help us to understand what God's kingdom is like and what Jesus himself (the king of the kingdom) is like. They also help us not just have faith IN Jesus, but to have the faith OF Jesus, who lived out perfect faith in his Father.

We learn much about the Father's love for people through the way that Jesus graciously calls out religious activities that have been hijacked by man's purposes.
