Cricket's Corner of Australia: Recent Episodes

Christina L Fox

Learning to adjust to life in Australia has been a 20-year learning curve. There has been a heap of good stuff along the way but also, life has thrown in some serious lessons. Missing holidays, the birth of grandchildren, losing friends and family along the way. Also, this thing is called Covid. Hang out with me as I share the good stuff and even the surprise fight as I am diagnosed with the "C" word, along with doing the best I can to help friends, family and even myself cope with life.

This has been a lifelong struggle. After medical challenges, I needed to get my life going again. I had been on social media (I have Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, trying to build my brand) before but got knocked down and stayed down for a bit.

This time I am doing it for myself. Producing things I want to share in the world.

This is my story, getting to where I am right now along with where I want to go

Mom and Dad taught me to knit and crochet. I love the fact that I have those gifts to pass along to my daughters. That is part of me being handed down. I think all new babies or marriages should have that special gift to pass along to those in the future to remember the past.

When there is a loss in your life, people will tell you they understand how you feel or what your going through. They were not there when things happen, so how do they know how you are doing?

I ask those questions along with a few more

What do you do when someone you want to have a conservation with dies?

Gary taught me how to change my thinking, to be grateful for each day I am still on this earth.

My Mom taught me to knit. It took a while along with a lot of practice to get confident in creating projects. When deciding to gift a project, it takes a little bit of planning. What kind of yarn, and colours? What needle size will I use?

Making decisions is a bit like knitting also. Researching, looking at the pros and cons of the outcome of the decision that is needing to be made.

Have a listen to understand more.

I adore the movie Field of Dreams. When Major League Baseball returned to Iowa for the first game at the place where it all began, it was a goosebump moment when Ray (Kevin Cosner) walked through that field of corn, onto the field. Kevin had a look of amazement, wonder, and disbelief at what was taking place right in front of him. Walking through the corn with the players onto the field still gets me teary.

Search Field of Dreams on YouTube, the Fox Sports video with Kevin Cosner. I wont spoil the video but grab a tissue.

Normally when no one answers the phone we leave a message. What happens when we place a call when we are struggling and no one answered then. With the events of the world, we are all struggling. We may not realize it but we need to get a little creative at times to find our way through those difficult times.

The next time the phone rings, I hope you answer it because You don't know what news is coming.

Community theatre was big in my house growing up. Dad took part in lots of musicals. My Brother and I also did musicals in high school but there is not quite like the Hollywood Musical, Gene Kelly dancing in "Singing in the Rain", Shirley Jones in "Oklahoma" The first real musical since then in my book is "Greatest Showman"

We can all relate to those special moments, that grand point in any movie that takes out breath away.

Tell me what is your favourite music as you  listen

It feels like over the last year we have lost family and friends who were close to us. Trying to find a way to cope with the grief, when it is right to move on. Navigating through grief is difficult at the best of times, I have even had my own issues with grief.

Check on those friends who are going through a loss, they might need you more than you know

It's a process that we all go through after losing someone. It's that time when we try and find what a new normal is. How are we supposed to find our way without that special person, Husband, Wife, Brothers, Sister, anyone who has left a mark on our life?

You set the pace for those around you to help you find your way.

It's hard asking for help.

We just need to accept that along this life's journey we are going to need help. There is nothing wrong with being vulnerable in asking.

I let my pride get in the way when I need help. I am not a superwoman even though I try at times. Even I Have had to swallow my pride.

Our accomplishments are not ours alone, even enough we may not realize it at times but we have had help along the way.

How many of us are  remembering to stop and say "Thank You"

Welcome to my first Podcast. Testing the waters. Letters to Juliet is one of the go-to movies that I can put on and even though I have seen it many times. I can still get lost for a couple of hours. Guess you could call it a self-care movie.
