Dr. Scott Goselin is in his nineteenth year as superintendent of Bradley School District 61. He has been an administrator in the Bradley School District for the past twenty-eight years. Before coming to Bradley, he taught for five years in the Reed-Custer School District.
He is a graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, Olivet Nazarene University, Governor’s State University, Lewis University and received a doctorate degree from National Louis University in 2008.
He has served in numerous community leadership roles: Kankakee-Iroquois United Way, Kankakee Chamber of Commerce, Bradley-Bourbonnais Rotary Club, Bradley-Bourbonnais High School Academic Foundation, Educators of Illinois League, Knights of Columbus, Kankakee NAACP, Illinois Association of School Administrators Board of Directors, and Maternity BVM Church Council.
He was most recently awarded the 2017 Three Rivers Region “Superintendent of Distinction” by the Illinois Association of School Administrators.
Dr. Goselin is married to his wife (Sue) and have two daughters (Claire and Lily). He enjoys all types of sports and spending time with my family.

MEET YOUR GUESTEric Peterson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Project Headspace and Timing, which since 2017 has aimed to help veterans in need. Raised in the Kankakee County Area, Peterson graduated from Herscher High School and went on to serve in the Army National Guard, serving in Afghanistan.
In 2020, Peterson received the Daily Journal’s Young Citizen of the Year Award and was placed on the Kankakee County’s 40 under 40 list by the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce. He is an ordained minister for the Universal Life Church, currently works in Veteran Services for Banyan Treatment Centers, and lives in Manteno with his wife and children.

Eric Peterson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Project Headspace and Timing, which since 2017 has aimed to help veterans in need. Raised in the Kankakee County Area, Peterson graduated from Herscher High School and went on to serve in the Army National Guard, serving in Afghanistan.
In 2020, Peterson received the Daily Journal’s Young Citizen of the Year Award and was placed on the Kankakee County’s 40 under 40 list by the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce. Antonio Marshall is currently the Chaplain at Olivet Nazarene University. After honing his skills as a basketball player at Olivet, Marshall's passion for the game led him to serve as a student assistant coach, eventually becoming a Graduate Assistant as he pursued another degree.
Marshall then embraced his calling to serve, as he became the Family Pastor at a church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2016. Driven to serve the community, Marshall founded a nonprofit organization in Grand Rapids called MANonFIRE. Through MANonFIRE, where Marshall also serves as the CEO, he combines his love for basketball with his desire to serve by connecting youths to local churches.

Bill Yohnka has worn many hats in the Kankakee community, but a leadership style that focuses on empowering people to maximize their potential exists as the through line that connects all of his roles. Yohnka points to Martin Whalen and Theodis Pace as two key mentors who helped mold this approach.
The former marketing director at Martin Whalen Office Solutions, Bill remembers that Whalen emphasized ‘finding the right place for [employees] on the bus.’ Meaning that Whalen valued crafting out ideal roles for each individual he employed. Similarly, Theodis Pace helped Yohnka see the importance of cultivating relationships - admiring Pace’s ability to have relationships with individuals who may have disagreements with people Pace counts as friends.
Combining these, and other, lessons, Yohnka describes a people-oriented leadership style that seeks to foster teamwork and community. By deemphasizing ego and pride, Yohnka is able to help put people in roles where they succeed.

Born and raised in Kankakee County, LaMore was interested in media since childhood, and attended the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, now called the Illinois Media School.
He started his first podcast, Bangarang Radio, and found the medium to be rewarding. However, after a few years, Jake decided to narrow his focus. Calling upon his experience as a musician, he started Pop-Punk & Pizza, a music podcast. Later, remembering his grandmother’s stories about Kankakee County, Jake launched The Kankakee Podcast. Beginning in 2021, the podcast has steadily grown and serves to document Kankakee County’s history past, present and future.

Kent Wade has over 17 years of library and customer service experience. After obtaining a GED (2005) and an Associates from Kankakee Community College (2012), a fire for sharing the value of education was lit in him that still burns strong to this day.
From working with youth, to empowering professionals, Kent’s mission has remained the same: for humans to regain their AMBITION despite the heaviness of life. During the summer of 2018, Kent launched Shake the Fear, a public speaking workshop geared toward overcoming the fear of speaking.
Wade’s ability to be a change agent earned him a Kankakee County 40 Under 40 award in 2016. Kent serves as the first Black officer on the Kankakee Public Library’s Board of Directors, as well as serving on the board of Directors of United Way. In 2020, Wade launched his Shake the Fear Gear Tee and Hooded Sweatshirt brand. Kent Wade is a proud husband, father to four, and uncle to many.

Jake LaMore has been the host of multiple podcasts, including Bangarang Radio, Pop-Punk & Pizza, and, most recently, The Kankakee Podcast. Born and raised in Kankakee County, LaMore was interested in media since childhood, and attended the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, now called the Illinois Media School.
He started his first podcast, Bangarang Radio, and found the medium to be rewarding. However, after a few years, Jake decided to narrow his focus. Calling upon his experience as a musician, he started Pop-Punk & Pizza, a music podcast. Later, remembering his grandmother’s stories about Kankakee County, Jake launched The Kankakee Podcast. Beginning in 2021, the podcast has steadily grown and serves to document Kankakee County’s history past, present and future.
Jake lives in Kankakee County and his company LaMore Media produces podcasts and offers podcast production studio rental.

Harvard Medtech’s Seth Burkey
How can we best seize opportunities when they present themselves? For Seth Burkey, it was all about preparation.

Dr. Genevra Walters currently serves as the Kankakee School District 111 Superintendent. She has been leading 11 local school buildings, with a total of 5300 students and 900 staff members, for eight years. Dr. Walters graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago with her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work, additionally pursuing her Doctorate in Education at Illinois State University.
Early on in her career, Dr. Walters was in the same position that many young adults can relate to. She felt a calling towards her career path in Social Work and Education, but she struggled with knowing what success and stability looked like. Dr. Walters knew one thing: she wanted to help students equally access quality education. Dustin started off in construction at a young age and worked as a lineman for 13 years. While working with ComEd, he knew there was something more out there and started to lean into his interests of real estate. He purchased his first rental property at 23, and never looked back.
After a back injury took him off the line, he dove head first into property investment, management, and rehabilitation. As he grew in his experiences and systems he was able to source more deals and grow his businesses to where they are today.

Liz Hehman, a certified guide and consultant at Highline Leadership Development Group, joins our hosts Jeff Williamson and Brian Prairie to talk about her journey through leadership that started as a passion at a young age.
Liz's journey to developing leaders started during high school as others began speaking truth into her, recognized leadership traits within her, and encouraged her while giving opportunities to stretch those. As she got into her own career in Higher Education and Student Development, it became a natural fit for her to pass that leadership and shaping on.
Over the years, her leadership evolved into also training her colleagues. She began helping people think through their giftedness, what they want in a career, where they feel called, and how to develop in order to maximize the influence they have.
As she continued her journey through coaching and developing, she shifted her perspective from Higher Education to a different context.

Nicole joined the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley in 2009 when she returned to her hometown of Kankakee after a 15-year career in business management with The Musicland Group and Delaware North Companies. Nicole quickly stepped into a program coordinator role where she led an early childhood coalition while also handling the day-to-day operations of the Foundation. She assumed the role of Executive Director in November 2014.
Nicole also serves as the Vice President for the Alliance of Illinois Community Foundations and is a board member for Kiwanis Club of Kankakee. She also serves on several committees throughout the region that focus on health, workforce development, economic development and children’s mental health.

Dr. Michael Boyd was named KCC's seventh president in 2019. Firmly committed to community service, Boyd is engaged with numerous efforts including the United Way, the Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education System and the Kankakee Grundy Livingston Workforce Board. He has three degrees from Illinois State University: a bachelor's degree in English education, a master's degree in English studies and a doctorate in English studies.
