Stories that will truly uplift and inspire you! As a social worker for more than three decades, and over twenty years as a college professor in social work, I know the power that comes from sharing stories. Each one of us has a story waiting to be told. By sharing our stories of strength, courage, and perseverance, despite life's challenges, it will help us understand ourselves and the world around us much clearer. In this PART TWO of Rowan Gneiting's episode from last week, he continues to share his wisdom of what it takes to be successful in life. I've included a few gems from this episode that are quite profound for a 19 year old...

"It's not about what other people make you do, if you do something that's self-motivated, you're going to see way more success"

"Anybody can go anywhere that they want"

"Hard work beats talent, when talent isn't hard working"

"It's important to never be satisfied"

"As you're consistent, and you're chipping away at something, eventually you're going to make a great sculpture"

"You have to pick and choose what mindset you want to have"

"If you're 1% better everyday, as a year passes, your 365% better than you used to be"

"Be proud of your victories, at the end of the day, look back and if you're proud of yourself, that's a good day; if you're not proud of yourself, then make a change tomorrow"

"If you treat failure like a failure, it's what it's going to be, if you treat failure like a lesson, that's what it's going to be"

For the first twenty years of his life, he was trapped in a world of anxiety, fear, and self-loathing. Tormented daily at home and bullied at school, he was the ideal candidate to pass along the same abuse to his children. . . or worse. Instead of perpetuating the sadistic behavior, he decided it was enough. It would stop here, with him. I can think of three words that in my opinion best describe Layne Gneiting... Motivated, enthusiastic, dynamic! In this episode Layne talks about how humans have the innate ability to stretch physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This is the second time Layne has been a guest on my podcast, and he always lifts my spirits and puts a smile on my face when I listen to him share his inspiring messages of living life to the fullest, reaching our divine potential, and not quitting when times get difficult. "Your soul will expand through the process and you're going to become somebody different then you were when you started." After listening to this episode, you will be motivated to do more, to be better, and to work harder. "What was the ceiling is now the floor, and now [we] can continue to rise."

In this episode, Melanie Anderson addresses a wide range of topics and you will enjoy her wisdom and insight that she has gained from years of experience as an RN, and just from living life in general. There is much to be learned from her! Here are a few excerpts from our visit:

"The reason emotion is called emotion, is because it's energy in motion; so, our feelings are always changing because it's energy in motion. Just because you feel a certain way today, whether it's happy or sad, that doesn't mean you're going to feel that way tomorrow and it's okay."

"I think we always strive to just be happy all the time, and that really is not realistic."

"If you're not struggling every once in a while, something's wrong."

I had the opportunity of sitting down with my older brother, Rod Wray. Rod has been one of my role model's throughout my life. In this episode, Rod shares his story of losing nearly everything that was dear to him, but somehow finding a way to move forward in life, and becoming a huge example of kindness, courage, love, and forgiveness to all who know him.  Just think about it, Rod's life could be anyone's... losing your job, getting divorced, struggling through the process of blending two families., to name just a few... Having one of these happen in your life might just be enough to knock you to the ground, but having all of them happen in a very short period, and picking up the pieces and moving forward, is what this story is about... "Be positive, have hope, and believe" - Rod Wray.

In this episode I was fortunate enough to visit with and get to know a great man by the name of  Stratie Young. He is an amazing man with a sound understanding of what it takes to find joy and purpose in life. "We love to look at all of the negative parts of the world, but there's a lot of good that's going on in the world as well, and as we focus on those things, I think our lives will be more joyful then what they are." Stratie uses his background, life experience, and love of the Savior to mentor those around him and to help them realize their potential. "We're dead men walking, this is not about us anymore; the Lord has been telling us that the youth are the ones that he has prepared for this time, and so our job is to help them find that purpose; but we don't stand in between them. In essence, we stand under them if we can and help bolster them, more so as a mediatory between them and Him, and to help them find what their purpose is by pushing them up as opposed to standing in between them and that connection that they need to have with Heavenly Father."

March 15th, 2010 was a day of devastation and unimaginable sorrow for the Storch family as their thirteen year old daughter Taylor was tragically killed in a skiing accident while on a family vacation in Colorado.  Taylor's mother Tara explained that "the Tara I was before March 15th, 2010 is a completely different Tara than I am now and who I was the next day... it completely shifted everything about me."  However, Taylor's death would soon bring hope and new life to five complete strangers who were the recipients of her vital organs.  From this experience, Todd and Tara Storch co-founded a non-profit organization called "Taylors Gift" which provides grief support to organ donor families.  "Organ and tissue donation is all about life... it's the most beautiful act of service to others you could ever give in your final moments of life."  Tara's advice to those who have lost a loved one is to "be gentle with yourself; life is different from what you knew before, but that doesn't mean you won't find joy again, that you won't find happiness again... just give yourself some time and patience with yourself and those around you."  Thank you Tara! You are an inspiration to us all.

She witnessed many miracles, and had unseen (and seen) Angels in her corner along the way to help her endure and survive. "When we have a friend who's struggling, I think so often we listen to them so that we can respond, when most of the time they just need us to listen." She is refreshingly honest and bold with her story... "I've seen so much value in being willing to be vulnerable... vulnerability is the key to building amazingly strong relationships in healing and helping others."

In this incredible episode,  Janet Shippen describes how an otherwise uneventful day turned into a living nightmare when she was attacked by a man while enjoying an afternoon walk. I was so impressed by her fighting spirit, and her ability to act in the moment. "This is something that changes you, you definitely change, but I also feel like I have become a stronger person because of it."  " You don't know how strong or courageous you are until you're faced with a situation like that, and then you realize, well, I am a strong person; I am brave, I can do this."

In this episode you will be inspired by a girl who was sexually abused growing up, and now, years later, she shares her story about forgiveness, second chances, and choosing to overcome. There is much we can learn from this courageous and insightful young lady. Below are just a few of her inspirational quotes:

..."I'm going to make mistakes, everyone else is going to make mistakes... it's my choice to forgive them like God forgives them, because if I don't then it's only going to cause me pain, it's not going to hurt them if I don't forgive them... I just need to remember that I never run out of second chances, and neither do they. "

"Every day is a brand new day, it's a brand new chapter in your life that you can choose to let your story... be either negative or positive."

"The things that we go through definitely shape us and influence us to who we're going to be."

"Your happiness is what matters and if you have Christ in your live guiding you, then you're going to be happy."

"Choose something everyday that going to make you happy and try to just do those things for you and no one else."

"I'm going to mess up every single day in one way or another, but that doesn't define me.. what defines me is how I choose to overcome those things, whether I choose to talk to God about it, or to let it bring me down even more."

For example, he tells us "life has not been without its train wrecks as all of Gods children can attest to. There's tough times and tough things but we learned that with Gods love and hard work you can get through it." When I asked him about his philsophy on life, Dan said "avoid the contention and fill your heart with love because thats whats gonna get you through the tough times."
