CareerView is the podcast where we ask questions students want to know when it comes to pursuing a career path. We ask questions on behalf of students across the country from secondary schools and universities submitted on our CareerView website, what they want to know when it comes to perusing their dream job
This episode features 24-year-old Physiotherapist -Ella Burnage, who is currently working within the private hospital system, providing patients with care as they recover from major heart and lung surgeries. Ella like many people found it very difficult in choosing only one specific career after finishing school, as she has lot of different interests, but eventually found Physio as the right fit for her.
This episode features 27-year-old Mechanical Engineer – Calum Macdonald, who is currently working as a Project Manager within the construction industry, where he looks at areas such as HVAC Design, Thermal Modelling and Energy Performance for large infrastructure buildings. Calum started his career as a mechanical engineer, but quickly realized it wasn’t for him, so he eventually transitioned to a Project Manager, where is relied on managing multiple people and projects.
This episode features 27-year-old Process Engineer – Usaid Rana, who completed his masters of chemical engineering and currently works for one of Australia’s largest independent oil and gas company. Usaid also comes from a diverse background, having grown up in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Karratha before moving to Perth at the age of 14. From a very young age, Usaid knew he wanted to become an engineer, and had some strong influencers throughout his journey.
This episode features 26-year-old in-house Lawyer – Ben Manifold, where he currently works at an investment group called Tattarang and also volunteers for a non for profit organization called the Minderoo foundation. Despite his significant involvement in industry and within the local community, becoming a lawyer was not his first option, as he was always bit of an all-rounder, who was open to a number of different career pathways.
This episode features 28 year-old Sound Specialist – Mishna Nagda, who specialises in post-production sound for film and TV, which means she’s responsible for creating the entire soundscape of a production. Before realizing sound production was her true calling, Mishna considered a number of different career options during her early years of school, even at one point even considering mechanical engineering. Ultimately she found her way and is now working at a very successful production company, where she is extremely happy.
This episode features 29-year-old Physiotherapist – Tom Payton, who has been practicing musculoskeletal physiotherapy for the last 5 years, and currently working as a rehab consultant. Tom at very young age was a competitive athlete, and played a lot of footy – where he unfortunately experienced a lot of injuries, but also fortunately, it ultimately led to his passion and interest to become a physiotherapist.
This episode features 26-year-old Provisional Psychologist – Stephanie Di Giovanni, who is currently working in a private practice with children, teenagers and their families. Steph’s focus is on childhood development and mental health disorders, and her role demands her completing a variety of tasks, such as conducting psychology assessments, diagnosing mental health conditions, counselling young people experiencing mental health issues (e.g. depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, anger) and running group therapy programs. Growing up in a family full of engineers, she had some convincing to do to explain why Psychology was the pathway for her.
This episode features 26-year-old Secondary School Teacher – Edward Sawle, who specialises in teaching Geography and Environmental Science. He is currently teaching at the prestigious Iona Presentation College and in a very short span of time, has gained experience teaching for the Department of Education and managed a variety of boarding schools across Perth.
This episode features 26-year-old Senior Consultant – Vanessa Liew, who is an Mechanical Engineer by background, but works as a consultant across Technology, Strategy & Transformation for global consulting firm – Delloite. Vanessa is a prime example of someone who has studied mechanical engineering, but not necessarily a typical role of a mechanical engineer, as she has achieved incredible success and growth as a consultant since graduating university.
This episode features by 27-year-old Accountant – Darren Sweeney, who has been working for an advisory firm called Resonate Business Consulting since 2016! Apart from traditional accounting work, he is involved a number of other areas which include advisory and setting up of small business or start-ups, creating corporate structures for tax purposes and preparing financial statements for companies.
This episode features 25 year-old Environmental Consultant – Hannah Nichol, who currently works as part of part of the environmental approvals team at Jacobs – where her main tasks look at creating very detailed environmental plans, conducting impact studies and also do compliance reporting. Hannah is incredible role model for young and talented environmental consultants and has excelled very quickly in her field.
This episode features 25-year-old recently graduated Commercial Pilot - Andrew Korol, who works for the Geraldton Air Charter where he flies holidaymakers, workers and runs aerial tours in some of the most challenging flying conditions in the country.
