Episode 7, I Paint As A Mother features multi-dimensional artist Sandeep Johal. Growing up, Sandeep had no close role models in the South Asian community earning their living in the creative arts. Feeling pressured to pursue a stable career, Sandeep completed biology and education degrees rather than follow her passion for creating art. 

In I Paint As A Mother Christine follows the journey of one mother's determination to follow her passion while caring for her baby. This episode highlights an artist's quest to prove herself as a professional, set an example for her son, and show her community that it is possible to make a living following one's passion and live "life outside the box.'

I Empower As A Mother, Episode 8, features Patricia Massy, owner of Massy Books, founder and director of Massy Arts Society, and co-founder of Indigenous Brilliance. Patricia is of Cree, Metis and English descent and a member of the As'in'i'wa'chi Ni'yaw Nation (Kelly Lake Cree Nation). She is also a mom to a toddler son. Separated from her own mother at 3-years old, she was raised by her English father, who ensured she understood, identified with and celebrated her Indigenous heritage.

In I Empower As A Mother, Christine learns Patricia's journey towards re-inventing her business against the backdrop of the pandemic, while still uniting a community by lifting the voices and stories of often excluded authors and artists. This episode explores the largest selection of Indigenous material in a storefront space in Vancouver and the first bookstore to be certified as a living wage employer on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and occupied territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Episode 6, I Lead As A Mother features The Honourable Katrina Chen, MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed and BC's current Minister of State for Child Care. Katrina is proving that women can excel in both elected office and parenthood by pushing forward a new social plan offering accessible and affordable childcare for all BC residents.

In I Lead As A Mother, Christine explores the hardships many parents, Katrina, a single mother herself, experience. This is the story of one mother's quest to provide quality and affordable childcare and support for every family—no matter their socioeconomic status.

Episode 5, I Learn As A Mother features Dr. Amanda Watson, SFU researcher, lecturer, and author of the book The Juggling Mother: Coming Undone in the Age of Anxiety. Amanda's research looks at the stereotypes modern mothers face along with the self-imposed expectations of the juggling mother to do it all, and with a smile. 

In I Learn As A Mother, Christine explores Amanda’s journey to activate change and demystify the common belief that women have to and are able to, juggle it all.

Episode 4, I Care As A Mother features Dr. Maryam Zeineddin, a family doctor and the founder of Zili CARE: a non-profit organization offering proactive resources and preventative measures to improve women's overall mental health. 

In I Care As A Mother, Christine looks at a mother's drive to change the health of women through preventative practice. The episode highlights the need to help women improve their emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness.

Episode 3, I Move As A Mother, features Cherine Casillan, a former Vancouver Grizzlies Cheerleader and international fitness instructor who returns home to Vancouver after years of working abroad to embrace motherhood, at a slower pace of life and find community. 

In I Move As A Mother, Christine shares the powerful story of a mother’s journey, pandemic lows leading to MomBop, a high-energy pop band for kids. This story inspires others to find themselves and their joy once again and touches on relatable feelings of grief and loss over one's pre-parenthood self.

I Create As A Mother, Episode 2 of As A Mother, features Jude Kusnierz, the driving force behind the creation of The Beaumont Studios Artist Society — a multi-dimensional art studio supporting Vancouver's creative sector. Throughout the pandemic, Jude stayed nimble to keep the arts and the Beaumont alive and thriving, for many artists who call it home, including herself.

In I Create As A Mother, Christine enters Jude’s world. We hear the story of a creator, artist and mother raising her daughter "on the end of her desk at the Beaumont", and her creative ability to pivot her business in order to support Vancouver's creative scene and local artists, while still paying her property taxes.

Our inaugural episode I Dream As A Mother features Aisha Kiani, founder of I Dream Library. Aisha's reluctance to accept the limited range of books in their son Rakim’s school library and their family’s experience with systemic racism in the school community led to the creation of I Dream Library, a collection of books and educational tools.

In I Dream As A Mother, Christine reflects on the value of literature to educate and holistically reflect colonized communities. Aisha’s story is about community learning and leadership as well as an unexpected opportunity from Yoko Ono.

Over two months ago, VancouverMom.ca launched As A Mother, a series of eight documentary shorts. These episodes shine a light on the craziness of the past two years - but through the lens of Vancouver moms. Thousands of people have watched these digital shorts - and it’s even been featured in the media, including CBC Radio here in Vancouver.

It’s safe to say that the episodes weren’t what people expected. It’s not the usual “mom fare” - whatever that means.

And now it’s available as a podcast.

The series includes pivots, stories of resilience, tears, shocking realities - and ultimately moments of triumph, resilience, grit and love. We cover topics of systemic racism. The survival of art. Decolonization. The mental load moms bear. And all the things we juggle.
