Today we recap our Brurch discussion around the recount of a passage in John 21, where Jesus asks Peter if he loves him. A key takeaway from this conversation is the patience of Jesus in his relationship with Peter. Not only had Peter previously rejected him 3 times, but now when asked about his love for Jesus (agape, the highest form of love), Peter can only respond with "you know I love (phileo, a friendly/brotherly form of love) you." He asks him a second time the same question, to which Peter responds with the same answer. Then, in his final time of asking Peter if he loves him, Jesus switches from using the word "love (agape)" to "love (phileo)".

In this exchange Jesus doesn't require Peter to change his degree of expressed love, but rather shows patience and grace with him as he meets him where he is "at".

When is the best time to go to church? Church is more than a building, community or thing we do - church is covenant to share life with others through the ups and the downs. Church is about being there for other people; using our gifts, talents and resources; and sometimes it even means showing up when we don't feel like it. Join us!
What does it mean to really love one another? Can we disagree and still be friends? What is it about our society that no longer allows for disagreements, without cancelling one another? Join us today as we talk about these points.

New year's resolutions don't have a great track record. If we just do more of something, we think that will change everything for us. Well, it doesn't. In this episode, Matt and Taigan go after the tension that we have as Christians when it comes to being free in Jesus and yet feeling like the rules & regulations paralyze us from living. Many of us see God's commandments as limitations on our lives, but what if instead of limitations, we saw them as guidelines that are meant to live purpose filled lives. Taigan tells a very powerful story about her grandmother that you won't want to miss.

This past weekend at our all church gathering, Matt asked everyone they they wanted the ripple effect of their life to be? So... What is it? What legacy are you wanting to leave behind after you're gone? How do you want people to remember you? These may feel like eerie questions, but... What's the answer? How does your faith play into all of it? So often we play the comparison game and honestly... It's burning many of us out. So, what's the way forward? Well, you'll just have to listen!
This week, Matt and Josh talk about Romans 4 and about Abraham his life of faith. The reality is that this man was not perfect and did not have it all together. BUT, everything he got from God was because he trusted that what God said he would do... He would do. Abraham just trusted.
When it comes to faith, spirituality & a relationship with God, we often feel like if all we do is TRUST God, then we might be faulted for being spiritually lazy. So, to earn our place with God, we trust and do a lot of things to justify our position. This couldn't be further from what the intention of the gospel is all about. Your relationship with God isn't justified because of you, It's justified because of HIM.

Karen's have taken the internet by storm in the last few years. We dislike them, we just want them to worry about their own lives. Here's a thought though... What if the modern day church is suffering from the spirit of Karen? Always looking to make sure that the rest of the world is submitting to our sense of righteousness, but are never opened to being called out for our own actions. It's the old log and plank in the eye scenario. Matt and Josh take the time to look at Romans 3 and talk about the need to be gracious with the world that surrounds us because well... Jesus did it. From Guilt to Grace: Can we all admit... There IS something wrong with us? While there is SOOO much good inside of humanity, there are some things that scare us about ourselves. Like when you see a wild and disrespectful thread on a social media platform where people feel brave enough to spew dissension and hatred, or when you turn on the news and see another tragedy at the hands of another human. It can be overwhelming sometimes. We gasp at all of this because we know that deep down, we have things inside of us that could come out like this too. So, we attempt to prove to everyone else that none of that is in US. We make sure that what is on the outside, how we present ourselves distracts the people in our lives, our friends, our coworkers and our families that we're better than we really know we are. In today's episode, Pastor Matt helps us understand that the only way we can quit playing this facade is... Jesus.
In this episode, Matt and Josh tackle the tension many Christians have when it comes to not judging others. Whether its a pastime of yours or it's something you're trying to nip in the bud, judging others is always a statement about you more than it is about the person being judged. Paul reminds us in Romans 2 that God isn't overlooking the stuff in our lives just because we're great judgers. How do we spend more time working on ourselves and less time focusing on the faults of others. You'll love this episode.
Pointing fingers at other people's shortcomings often makes us feel good temporality because it makes us feel just a little better about where we fall short. BUT... The truth is that, this kind of attitude is actually robbing many people of the opportunities that God wants to give them to 1) get better and 2) live the lives they so desperately want.
Letting your life speak is a scary thing because... What if it has nothing good to say? As desperate as some followers of Jesus might be to say something to someone about their faith, what they don't realize is that their lives have the power to make the words with good or bad news to those listening. If we are convinced that it's good news that points people to Jesus, why then don't we focus on not only what we preach, but what we practice too?

When things get hard, who do you run to? In Colossians 2, Paul finds out that the church there is running to all kinds of different things in difficulty... Just not Jesus. Pastor Matt Goes after our leaning towards self help and why that's going to ultimately leave us still looking for someone to come to our rescue.

26-29This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I’m working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so generously gives me (The Message).
HOPE! We all love it, we all need it, but... We rarely know where to find it. Don't get us wrong, we know it's in Jesus, but what happens when you faith feels like a ground hog day? In this episode Matt and Josh talk about how hope is not found in an institution, in a program or event a feeling. It's found in the person of Jesus.

Faith is an aspects of life that can sometimes feel complicated. You know it's important & you try to give it room in the busyness of everything. For some reason, there is this little voice that at times tells you that you're not measuring up. It could be voices from your upbringing, parents, church leaders or even friends who maybe even without knowing told you how you weren't hitting the mark spiritually. Sometimes, the voice we hear is our own. But what if we've overcomplicated the whole thing? What if for every thorn that we experience in our lives, there is a rose that is there to show us how loved we are?

It's 2022 people! Can you believe it?? For some of us the last year... Maybe even two years has been a blur. With wave after wave, after wave of Covid start & stop restrictions, many of us are... Well, to put it mildly... Done! As we've stepped into 2022, many within our church and community aren't their chipper, normal selves. A lot of us are tired, stressed and overwhelmed. This new year has arrived and TBH... We're over it. The normal new year resolution cadence seems to have left the building for lots and lots of people.
While it may be ok to not be ok, what if 2022, instead of being the biggest obstacle to your joy, became the biggest opportunity to THRIVE? In this episode, Matt and Josh discuss how maybe... Just maybe, Covid has become a crutch for many to excuse themselves from becoming better and growing in the areas of their lives that have faded or have been purely neglected because of the pandemic.

Ever know that there is something that you need to be doing, but you don't do it? Yeah, us too.
Especially during Covid, it seems as though this whole "meh" attitude has gotten stronger and stronger. In some ways, it feels like apathy about anything is at an all time high. Unfortunately, this attitude has creeped into our faith lives and has caused many of us to not only feel like "meh" but to live out our faith in a "meh" kinda way.
This week Matt and Josh explore how we can overcome the apathy going on in our hearts, do the things we know we should do and live the lives we want to live. It's a good one!
You want to be G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time)? I mean... We all do! No one wakes up one morning and says, "today, I want to be mediocre." We have this theme in our culture that tells everyone they are important and that they deserve the acknowledgement & affections of the people around them. We may not say any of this out loud, but without a doubt, every human lives their lives with a desire to leave a legacy so that they are not forgotten. We want to make sure that our life lives on beyond our last breath. We want our lives to count, but when things don't work out the way we expect them to, lots of time we start down a path of disillusionment & despair. For people who call themselves followers of Jesus, existential moments like these affect our faith and cause us to questions what all of our invested time & effort was all for: "Does God even love me? Why would he let all this happen? Don't I deserve more than what is happening to me?"
In this week's episode, Matt and Josh look at what Jesus had to say about being great and how he defines & outlines what significance actually looks like in God's kingdom. This is a challenging one that you don't want to miss.
Have you ever spent time with someone who made themselves the centre of every conversation, event or problem? Yeah... We have too. It seems to be their preferences, their priorities & their agendas that win every time. They are the types of folks that many would consider toxic or as many psychologists would determine are demonstrating "consumer behaviour."
Unfortunately, this type of attitude & behaviour can also be found in the Church. Worship style battles, preferences when It comes to preaching, criticizing programs that are offered or just being "toxic" in general has created a stigma of church goers and has contributed to the PR problem that the church is experiencing.
In this episode, Matt and Josh explore the differences between a consumer & contributor. Get ready to be challenged and to hear from various voices about how they moved from one C to the other. It's going to be a great series.
Taking steps back always feels defeating doesn't it? Whether it's at the gym, in a relationship or in your spiritual life, feeling like you've regressed in some way can be one of the hardest things to overcome. In fact, it may feel so defeating that you avoid trying to get back to where you were before.
Unfortunately, too many of us end up in this situation. How to do you overcome this? How do you avoid taking taking all those steps back?
In this episode, Matt and Taigan discuss the important of protecting you progress and how you can actually avoid the feelings of failure and eating a 4 litre tub of ice cream all alone. It's a good one!
"TALK IS CHEAP!" Every human on the planet would agree with this statement. Solely paying lip service to anything can be devastating socially. When people talk the talk, but can't walk the walk, there is sense of hypocrisy attached to that person's character. As humans, we have a tendency of judging other people by their actions, but judging ourselves by our intentions. We do this in many parts of our lives, but especially when it comes to our relationship with God. We make excuses as to why we are not producing spiritual fruit in our lives that looks a lot like blaming others or blaming our local church. Where is your fruit?
In this episode, Matt & Josh get a little spicy and call out the lack of intentionality surrounding how a follower of Jesus should be investing in others & the selfish blame game many people play to avoid doing the hard work of producing fruit in their lives. It's a hot one.
Prayer. It's that 6 letter word that the majority of Christians know is important, but are maybe not sure how to go about it. When you look at the current church statistics surrounding how often Christians pray, there is a tangible cringing that goes on because well... We know that we should be doing better. It's common knowledge that prayer is important in the life of a follower of Jesus. In fact, most of us have been taught from a young age that prayer is foundational to a successful spiritual life. SO WHY THE HECK IS IT SUCH A STRUGGLE!!!?!?!?!?

You can't be grateful for what you have if you think you're entitled to it. There is so much to be thankful for, but why is it that so often we focus on either the things that are not going so well or the things that we don't have. For many, life is a constant game of comparison, wanting what you don't have and dreaming so far into the future that by the time you get there... You're dead. There's got to be more than always wishing you were in a different spot.
In this episode, Matt and Josh take a deep dive into what being grateful/thankful is really all about and how maybe, just maybe... It's the cure Jesus knows we need to overcome the "ME" monsters in our lives.

Ever run into another Christian who complains about not feeling like they're finding peace, stability & wholeness in their lives, but the above scenario is a ground hog day reality on the regular? Yeah, we do too.
The truth is that many followers of Jesus want deep & significant spiritual lives, but when it comes down to it, the temptation to define success in this area by check marks, accomplishments & self righteousness is far too strong. It is wayyyyy easier to DO the right spiritual things and get the affirmation of others than it is to do the hard work that leads you to BE God's person.
In this episode Matt & Josh breakdown their struggles in the area of "busy" & how someone who wants a great spiritual life can actually have it.
In the Christian world, "ordinary" is a swear word. Nobody wants to be ordinary do they? Your life needs to count for something BIG, doesn't it? You need to change the world and be a history maker for Jesus, don't you?!?!?! Lots of times, the heros of the Bible (except Jesus of course) and of Christian history come across to the average person in the pew as the standard that should be pursued. When someone misses the mark or doesn't live up to one of these figures, It can leave you feeling insignificant and communicates that the "ordinary" life you live is not enough to please God.
The exceptions should never become the rule in this regard. What if we told you that the "ordinary" life that you lead is not only good enough, but could actually have more influence on the lives of others than any "preacher-in-sneakers" ever could?

"SERVE" has become a buzz word both in and out of the church. In corporate manuals, church vision statements and on celebrity TikTok accounts, being able to say that you have "Served" another person, an NGO or a community goes a long way to elevating your "good human" cred. Don't get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with serving others, but what may be rotten is the motivation you are doing it with.

Community is something we all long for, but for some reason can be the hardest thing to find. Sometimes as Christians, we hear about the early church having "having all things in common" and we have this beautiful picture of people living in harmony together, sharing root vegetables and just being gosh darn nice. We often times think that community should just be easy. Well... It's not.

They seem so connected to God, and truth be told, YOU feel something when you're in that kind of space. But after the lights dim, and "normal" life starts again...
