Where in your life is the amount of effort you are putting in not aligning to your expectations? Note it. Don’t ignore it. You don’t have to do anything about it right now but I want you to get really aware of what ocean you are trying to row across in a paddle boat. Because that is an area of your life where burnout could easily creep up on you if you’re not continuing to do a pulse check with yourself.

Navigating life's pivotal moments can be a tricky evaluation. Drawing from my personal experiences, including a recent break-up and caring a highly anxious pet, I explore the conundrum of choosing when it's time to stay or go. We discuss the importance of listening to our intuition, how our backgrounds influence our decision-making, and why sometimes rationalizing a decision doesn't always work in this scenario.
When faced with uncomfortable situations, we often wish for a guidebook to turn to. As creatives, the choices we make can significantly impact our lives artistically and personally. In the spirit of finding balance, I've compiled a list of 3 questions to ask yourself to help guide you towards making this penultimate choice for your life, career, business, or relationships.

What did you learn growing up about creative careers? This can be from your parents, people who raised you, teachers, professors, peers and friends.
This can be anything you remember them saying or it can also be things that you perceptively learned from their emotions or reactions. Write it down.
Now I want you to go back through that list you created and circle the things that you want to keep with you. What are those really good, powerful beliefs that are currently helping you. Now I want you to also cross out anything that you want to leave behind any story, any narrative, any should trap that you do not want to take forwards in your career.
These are deep seated beliefs and learnings, that whether you know it or not have been subconsciously guiding you in your own career. In order for you to take back control from the shoulds, you have to start by acknowledging what they are.

According to Zach Smith, even vacuuming can tap you into creative flow. Zach worked in the Chinese film industry for over 9 years as a screenwriter, a kung fu stuntman, and vice president of a film and co-production company until it all came crashing down. After feeling a huge loss of creativity after this event, Zach made his way back to his art through studying the science of creativity and zen principles.

In Part 2 of this goal-setting series, I'm going to share with you HOW to break down a vision into goals. Be sure to tune back into last week’s episode on 5 Keys to Vision Creation if you haven't listened already.
Your One Thing This Week
Create a mindmap of each aspect of your future vision and circle the one aspect you’d like to go after first. This is your first goal. Begin breaking that goal down into smaller tasks that will help you turn that dream into reality. Remember - if you feel overwhelmed you probably haven’t broken down your goal into small enough tasks.

Being brave enough to set a vision is a radical act. It’s sticking a flag in the sand and saying to the world (and yourself)... I want this. You can either help me on my quest, or let me go.
There is power in putting what you want out into the world. You might not receive it back in kind or in the way you expect. But there is a freedom in allowing yourself to ask.
Every goal I now set starts with a vision, and without it, it's hard to know where you are going.
Join me this week in part 1 of our goal-setting series as I share with you 5 Keys to Vision Creation.
Your One Thing This Week
Create your vision for 2023. Whether you write it down or create a visual, cement into existence what you are wanting the new year to bring to you. Keep it somewhere where you can visit often. And remember - your vision is an experiment. You have very little control over the timeline but trust that consistent, small actions will take you closer to that vision.

Most of our career paths are not linear but rather feature a ton of twists, turns, and unexpected side treks. It can leave many of us feeling a little lost in our own story and not sure how to make sense of our past to carve out the future we desire.
Hardie Cobbs went through this journey herself a few years back when a breast cancer diagnosis sparked a pivot in her own career from artist to personal stylist. As the founder of A Year In Style she helps women embrace midlife with confidence and I could not imagine a better fit for this show!

Your One Thing This Week
You get to write your own story. So you’re one thing this week is to find your thread. Spend 20 minutes jotting down all of the breadcrumbs of your life - from skills and strengths you have to career journeys you’ve followed to life experiences that have really made an imprint on you. After you do that, take a birds eye view of everything you’ve written down. Circle what breadcrumbs feel tied to where you are at today and where you would like to be going.
If you’re feeling extra ambitious, write a short bio about yourself that’s filled with these breadcrumbs. You can even record it if writing is not your thing.

In the hustle and bustle of modern society, it's hard to slow down and let big changes sink in. We are constantly hopping from one to do list to the next, one project to the next, or one holiday party to the next, eager to do it all.
But when big change is happening, whether that be through choice, opportunity, or unforeseen circumstances, it can be difficult to carve out time to fully process the moment.
I was certainly feeling this way last week when I recorded this episode. I was 3 days out on leaving Chicago for my big nomadic adventure and had this realization that I hadn't processed the massive change I was choosing to make in my life.
Lo and behold, a spontaneous trip downtown Chicago to some of my favorite holiday haunts both helped me mark this momentous occasion and inspired this episode for you.
So tune into this week's episode live from Pritzker Pavilion in Downtown Chicago. And don't worry... the ambulance noise is not for me.

If you're seeking your purpose or even just a little more fulfillment in your work and career, look no further than Ikigai.
Ikigai is a Japanese word that means a reason for being. After I read the book Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles back in 2020, I was a little skeptical that a simple exercise could point me in a direction in my own career. Boy was I wrong. In fact, it's this exercise that unlocked next steps for many of my clients when they were feeling lost and stuck in their careers.
By asking yourself what you are good at, what you love, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for, you can navigate closer to finding your purpose, even if it's just your purpose for this moment in your life.
Tune in to also learn about 4 myths or misconceptions many individuals have about Ikigai.
Your One Thing this Week
Create your very own Ikigai. Grab a sheet of paper and draw 4 concentric circles that overlap in the center. Label them “what you love”, “what you’re good at”, “what the world needs”, and “what you can be paid for”. Fill in the circles with what you know today and brainstorm what could lie at the heart of your Ikigai.

We are all going to hit roadblocks in our creative journeys. It's unavoidable. So if we are bound to hit resistance (aka a roadblock or two) along our journey, how do we prepare?
By developing back-pocket strategies and a tool kit of sorts to use the next time resistance stands in our way.
In this episode, I'll share with you 7 back-pocket strategies that have worked for myself or my clients to overcome resistance.
These tactics include:
Your One Thing This Week
Choose one tactic that we talked about on this episode and apply it in your life this week. What tactic do you need right now? Do you need to (list tactics). Right it down on a sticky note or set a reminder in your phone to remind you to come back to that tactic when you need it this week.
Special Episode Note

Part 2 of a 3-part series on resistance (aka roadblocks) that commonly pop up along the creative journey.
New Flash: Resistance only occurs when you are trying to do something awesome.
Last week we talked about what resistance is and how it shows up in your life and career. Despite the fact that roadblocks cannot be eliminated from your life, I'm going to show you how to start building a back-pocket tool kit to combat resistance when it occurs.
First and foremost, you've defeated your roadblocks before. By recognizing this internal resilience and strength you've previously exhibited in your life, you can start to recognize that no roadblock is insurmountable.
Your One Thing This Week
List each of your roadblocks on a sheet of paper. I want you to then think of a time where you were able to move past this roadblock. If you can't think of a time, is there a similar moment where you found success despite the roadblock? Describe this success in as much detail as possible. What did it feel like to move past the problem and accomplish what you set out to do?

Every human being faces resistance. We all have limits that our bodies and minds are attuned to. We are used to accepting only so much love, success, and wealth.
When you aim higher, change, or push past your current limitation, you will start to hear a voice that will attempt to hold you back. It might tell you you're not good enough, you're not worthy, or even that there is no point.
Our bodies and minds are very good at keeping us safe. Except sometimes “keeping us safe” equates keeping us in our comfort zone and that’s no longer where we want to be. These subconscious actions, although well meaning, are holding you back.
In this episode I'm going to share with you what resistance is, how does it show up, and why identifying can help you continue to move forward.
Your One Thing This Week
Spend the next week calling out your roadblocks for what they are. If you start procrastinating, feeding into self-doubt, worrying incessantly, picking fights, criticizing others, or even self-medicating, I want you to identify the moment. Don’t try to change the behavior right now. Just get really good at identifying your resistance or your roadblocks for what they are.
