Ms. Smith is an HBCU advocate and got her undergrad degree from The Kentucky State University (Mighty Thorobreds) in Frankfort, KY; Also received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She started as a substitute teacher in her journey in Augusta, Georgia. Smith then transition from K-12 as a Health/Physical Education Teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina to Higher Ed for over a decade and worked with students (especially athletes). He spent 5 years teaching and leading in Harlem, NY. Feeling pulled back home and to communities that are deeply important to him and feeling drawn to reimagining education with the community at the center, he moved to Chattanooga to design a new school alongside the community. This led to the design and approval of Chatt-Academy Community School, opening in August of 2023.
