The Church’s Shadow is a podcast hosted by Matthew Haak, a pastor who sits down with individuals of various experiences, faiths, and backgrounds to discuss differing perspectives of Christianity and the Church in America. We all carry our own baggage, pain, and perspectives. Hear from individuals about how the Church has caused both hurt and healing in the lives of real people often excluded from church life. In this conversation with Andrew, we talk through some of the struggles of homosexuality in the church, the hurt that can come from interactions with some Christians in this context, attempts to reconcile your faith and sexuality, and what we can all learn from Andrew and others with similar experiences.

In this episode, we sit down with Brett and discover two main things. 1) A church is more than just its staff. It is important that anyone who claims Christianity shows the grace and love of God to others. This is not just a call for pastors, but to all believers. 2) There are real people behind sin and hurt. When people step out of a church for whatever reason, it is not our job to judge whether they deserve to be reached out to. We must reach out, care, and love regardless of the circumstances.

Brett provides great insight into how the church can better care for its members and for people in general.

In this episode, I sit down and talk with Mike about some of the more common experiences people have in the church that lead them to never coming back, even if they keep their faith. It is very easy to feel forgotten, unloved, and unwanted. Listen to Mike's story, and I bet most of us hear a little bit of our own story. Hopefully this is an encouragement you are not alone, and a motivation to step back into a church that cares for you. Christians, we HAVE to show our love for everyone who steps through those doors, and not just when they are at the church. Reach out and let them know they are cared for and loved.

The Church in America has not always done the best job at producing disciples in the last 20 years, but we must return to what God has called the Church to be. Thankfully many are doing that and individual Christians understand the necessity of it. Listen to some of the ways the Church can continue to improve on that call as I discuss some of the issues brought up in my conversation with Chrissy.

In this episode, I dive deeper into some of the things mentioned from my conversation with Abby last week, particularly from a Christian perspective. Much of this episode sets the stage for the rest of the podcast. It gives Christians challenges in how to learn from some of the discussion with Abby and grow. It gives non-Christians a better understanding of the how the Bible speaks into certain issues from last week.
