Yes we are called to lay down our life for others ultimately because we love God. But this should come from a place of Love for God and love for man, not to just please man. And even in laying down our lives, we are also choosing to love ourselves my putting God (who loves us even more than we love ourselves) first and in control of where our life is headed, allowing us fulfill what we were created to become. Don't let people or you be a reason you hate yourself. And don't give up your life for anyone just because you hate yourself. Infact you can't even love God and be hating yourself at the same time. It only restricts you from receiving the amazing love God wants to shower endlessly on you. You will not be able to appreciate and enjoy His love enough to let it overflow from your life into others.
