In this audio I run through some key anatomic landmarks that conveniently align with the lumbar and sacral vertebrae. These are very useful to remember and can be used a clinical shortcuts during a physical examination. Enjoy! One note: yes, the supracristal plane is often also described as aligning with the L4 spinous process as well as L3 - there is some variation with this depending on size and shape of the pelvis between people.

In this short recording I explain how to use the transpyloric, subcostal and transtubercular planes to find the kidneys on a plain x ray scan. These planes are useful to remember because they align with L1, L3 and L5 respectively and can be used to orientate yourself on scans and on physical assessments. Enjoy!
