Open-source, DIY Automated Insulin Devices (AIDs) are becoming more popular around the world. In this episode, Dr. Martin de Bock (paediatric endocrinologist & researcher) joins us again to talk about his latest research using open-source systems. These are off-label systems people with T1D are building and using to gain tighter glucose management. Martin's research highlights the importance of healthcare professionals being open to talking about these systems with people with T1D using them. We would love to have some people with lived experience of DIY systems. Please contact us if you would be willing to share your experience. See Episode 3 for Martin's previous episode on Medtronic 780G).

Ever thought of going onto an insulin pump? Fran & Jaimee are 'Talkin' Tech. This one is aimed at those who may be considering switching from injections to insulin pump therapy. The CGM subsidy in Australia has opened lots of doors. This may lead you to explore your options with Hybrid Closed Loop systems (insulin pump and CGM talking to each other via Bluetooth). We are seeing some fantastic results since these systems have become more widely available. With release so close to Christmas, we thought this can also lead to the desire for some more flexibility with diabetes management and the foods we eat (with ideally less ups and downs). So, if you've been wondering what an insulin pump is, the options, what the process is to move to one, costs, or any of the other considerations, listen in and we hope this helps you decide if it may work for you. Please feel free to contact us with any questions too via T1D Uncensored Podcast on Instagram or Facebook. You can also contact Fran or Jaimee directly as per details below. Type 1 Diabetes is relentless. It takes up constant emotional, physical and psychological energy! Diabetes burnout & distress is not uncommon. Up to 25% people with T1D will experience this. It can lead to disengagement of self-care & result in even more problems. We have a special guest (Dr. Adriana Ventura) to talk about the signs of diabetes distress & burnout, & when you might need to seek some help. We hope this reaches lots of people to help create awareness & to provide some strategies to help. See Dr. Adriana's details below if you would like to get in touch.
Dr. Adriana is a nationally registered psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a Doctorate of Psychology (Health) from Deakin University.

This one is all about the challenges we can face when prescribed Corticosteroids. We have kept it to the legal & prescribed Roids! The 'Roid Rage' can be very real...but it is not the anabolic steroid rage you might have heard about...it's the insulin resistance rage that can result in the desire to 'rage bolus'... The stubborn highs & amount of extra insulin required can be frustrating & very tricky to manage!
Corticosteroids come in a variety of forms. Listen in as we chat about some considerations if you are prescribed a course of steroids. It can be during pregnancy, it can be for things like asthma, it can be due to injury or pain, or any other forms of inflammation. This is a shorter episode you can listen to in case you ever find yourself needing some more information, which isn't easy to come by on this topic. As always, it's very individual & something your team will need to help with if the time comes.

Its official the CGM subsidy has been rolled out in Australia for adults with type 1 diabetes from the 1st of July!!
With all this talk about CGM it got us thinking about all the information people will see as they view their glucose levels in real time and between boluses.
You may have noticed that your glucose levels rise after certain meals or foods and its tricky to get them back in range. Maybe you avoid some foods altogether?
Tune in to Nic and Lara as they chat about meal rises, how to identify which foods are the culprits, why its important to manage them and a few tips on how to manage them
It's happened - a promise has been made to subsidise CGM here in Australia for ALL with Type 1 Diabetes!! Fingers crossed this promise will come into fruition within the next few months. AMAZING!!
But...what devices are available here in Australia? What suits YOU the best? What are the pros and cons of CGM? and...how does CGM actually work?!
Join Lara and Fran as we speak about all of the topics above! Hope it helps with your decision making.

See you next time!
General health guidelines suggest that you stick to standard drink recommendations when it comes to drinking alcohol, especially when you have Type 1 Diabetes.
Though this is best practice, we realise that there may be times when you, as an adult, may choose to overindulge - whether it be your 21st of 40th, your best friend's wedding or a winery day out with friends.
In this episode, Fran and Lara talk through the "do's" when it comes to booze and go through some safety mechanisms to try and have in place while drinking alcohol.

Join Lara and Jaimee as they chat to singer songwriter Abby Lee-Harder. Abby is mum to Presley, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 17 months old. Abby talks through their traumatic diagnosis story and how diabetes technology has made a huge positive impact to their day to day lives. Abby and her family live in New Zealand, where there are NO CGM subsidies for people living with diabetes.
With her husband (and pop/R&B sensation) Vince Harder, the pair wrote the beautifully heartfelt song "Overwhelmed", dedicated to their children. Their song and it's video has since been used as a strong advocacy piece through Diabetes NZ as a way to push for subsidised access to CGM - a cause that the family (and us here at the podcast) are deeply passionate about. PLEASE check it out on YouTube and have the tissues handy.
We hope you enjoy listening to our interview with this amazing supermum!
Are you struggling to work out how to work out with T1D? Or perhaps getting totally mind boggled with all the physical snacktivity chatter surrounding the exercise space? Part of our vision for our podcast was to interview some inspiring people with Type 1 Diabetes, and we were incredibly lucky to have the time to chat with our first guest - diabetes advocate, blogger and absolute legend Renza Scibilia!
Renza was diagnosed with Type 1 in 1990. She is the manager of "Type 1 Diabetes and Communities" at Diabetes Australia, is a strong diabetes advocate and writes a funny, entertaining and insightful blog called Diabetogenic.
Listen in as we talk about several topics such as why language in diabetes matters, the importance of peer support, #accessforall and her own technology journey to looping.
*The views and opinions expressed in interview episodes are those of the guests. They should not be taken as medical advice. Please see your health care provider if you would like to discuss changes to your management.
Sick of explaining yourself? Well this ones for you! Send it to your family, friends and support network so that they have a better understanding of Type 1.

So what's the deal with fat and protein? Why is it so hard?
We want to tell you a bit about the fat and protein story and hopefully drop some knowledge bombs along the way. Join Lara and Nic, as they chat about what is considered to be a high fat and high protein meal, why these meals can cause elevated blood glucose levels, and what the latest research says on ways that may help navigate these situations.
