"Build it, they will come." Billie had no idea that quote came from a movie, let alone a movie about building a baseball field for ghosts. Starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Amy Madigan, this fantastical movie is still a family favorite today. However, the sisters are divided this episode, debating (arguing) how much one should suspend beliefs for a story, for one. Listen in as they try to persuade each other to their way of thinking. Batman, directed by Tim Burton, was released in 1989 and marks the beginning of the Batmans on the silver screen. (Though the TV show in the 60s is the first appearance on film!) It's iconic score, by Danny Elfman, and soundtrack, by Prince, as well as performances by Michael Keaton and our main man Jack Nicholson catipulted this film into infamy. Even we've seen it.
But just because we've seen it before doesn't mean there wasn't a lot more to learn about this film. We have some surprising trivia in this episode and, of course, it's BATMAN. Come join us and tell us about your favorite Batman!

And yes, that's the title of the film, based on a book by William Styron. This wasn't a movie that Sophie picked for us to watch. Just to clarify. :)
Directed by Alan J. Pakula, it stars Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, and Peter MacNicol and could rival even Shakespeare's most tragic of plays. The story centers around the story of a Holocaust survivor, a Polish Catholic woman, and her Jewish American boyfriend. A young writer named Stingo bears witness to their spiral into darkness, even going so far as calling them friends.
Needless to say, Sophie and I had a lot to talk about, especially the choices everybody made.

With a "Mary Shelley meets Alfred Hitchcock" vibe, this Frankenstein story equal parts grossed us out and impressed us in its grotesqueness. (Sophie shares how many gallons of fake blood were used during Trivia.) Directed by Stuart Gordon, this film stars Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, and David Gale. All amazing!

At first glance, the movie looks like any other bro movie, but we dig into the heart of the movie and why it took the world by storm back in 1986.

What happens when two sisters watch different versions of a movie they've never seen before? This. This is the result.
The Outsiders, starring C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Cruise, was directed by Francis Ford Coppola (which we pronounced correctly this time) and based on a book by S.E. Hinton. It tells the story of conflict among the youth of rural Oklahoma due to the socio-economic divide of the town, escalating to the point of death. It's a poignant coming-of-age story we enjoyed digging our teeth into.

Before The Lost City, there was this gem. Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, is the story of one sister getting the other sister into some shit... We wouldn't know anything about that. But really, Joan Wilder should be thanking her sister for the adventure of a lifetime, including finding her own happily ever after. Billie gets a bit too into romance beats, and Sophie tells terrible jokes in this one. Enjoy!

And we're back with our first taste of Diane Keaton and Nancy Meyers's 80s comedy! For a movie about a business woman who gets saddled with a baby and apparently loses her mind, it was pretty divisive for us. Sophie gives an insight into motherhood while Billie rides her feminist horse off into the sunset. What do you think our final ratings will be?

It's here... And yeah, totally one that Billie has never seen. Big shock. But what might actually be shocking is a lot of the trivia we uncover. It's truly haunting stuff. Although a box office bomb, it ended up being nominated for several Oscars, losing out to Spielberg's own E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. JoBeth Williams, Heather O'Rourke, and Craig T. Nelson star in this amazingly creative flick written by Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais, and Mark Victor, and directed by Tobe Hooper.

It's one of Billie's favorite movies and also one that Sophie has never seen! A perfect combination for an episode. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star as The Blues Brothers in this love letter to rhythm and blues music, with plenty of cameos such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Frank Oz, Cab Calloway... just to name a few. This movie took the world, and therapists's couches, by storm! Wes Craven's story genius made us twist the plot around and around as we talked about our favorite parts, which was definitely not all the blood. Well, it was either going to be a scary movie or a werewolf movie... we didn't really think it would be both! Though, Billie was able to handle it so maybe "scary" was optimistic. One of the many Stephen King adaptations, this movie stars Corey Haim and Gary Busey and is worth watching for that alone. They make it as fun as having a motorcycle for a wheelchair. Which we're sure is what King was going for. ;)

In this episode, you'll hear Sophie provide an excellent explanation of ranks in the U.S. Army and Billie nerd out over Vietnam War documentaries. There's also a power outage! Thankfully, we do manage to talk about the Academy Award winning movie, Platoon. And we came to a definitive conclusion: If you're going to watch any movie about the Vietnam War, watch the one made by an actual veteran of the Vietnam War, Oliver Stone (who also won an Academy Award for Best Director for this film). This film stars Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, John C. McGinley, Forest Whitaker, and Johnny Depp to name a few.

Written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this movie joins together two genres which fit surprisingly well together: Horror and Westerns. It's innovative and with a great cast. Who doesn't want a film about an unhappy woman stalking another woman who are both being stalked by a creepy stalker over a pair of hideous earrings worth a fortune? Throw in some amnesia, a solid case of mistaken identity, and Madonna, and there's the movie. Directed by Susan Seidelman, the film stars Rosanna Arquette and Madonna, and is a pretty wild ride.
