Dr. Sara Bombaci is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at Colorado State University. She conducts research in both conservation biology and diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice (DEISJ), and at the intersection of these two themes. Dr. Bombaci developed a strong interest in fostering greater equity and inclusion in natural resource education early in her career, and continues to leverage research, teaching strategies, and outreach to understand and address barriers to DEISJ in academia. Sara joined the Biennial Conference on University Education in Natural Resources hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in March 2022 for this talk: Advancing inclusion in natural resources education--Insights from a decade of research and practice
Dr. Pennisi is a human dimensions specialist in the School of Natural Resources at UNL. She brings a wealth of experience to her teaching and research, having served as a naturalist, nature center manager, and teacher in a zoo-based academy before starting her post-secondary academic career. Lisa’s scholarship explores how to influence conservation behavior through knowledge, attitudes, values, and connection to nature. Lisa joined the Biennial Conference on University Education in Natural Resources hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in March 2022 for this talk: "Neurodiversity in our classrooms." The recording started shortly after the presentation began.
Dr. Joe Dauer is a member of UNL's School of Natural Resources working in scholarship and teaching of life sciences education. His work is at the intersection of biology (including genetics, ecology, and evolution), education and cognitive psychology. Joe joined the Biennial Conference on University Education in Natural Resources hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in March 2022 to share his experiences in his keynote: “How do natural resource students organize and make sense of a flood of biology concepts?”
Dr. Bryan Dewsbury is the Associate Director of the STEM Transformation Institute at Florida International University. His research program focuses on broad social and equity questions related to discipline-based education research. He conducts faculty development across North America helping institutions of higher education transform their practices toward more equitable outcomes. Bryan joined the Biennial Conference on University Education in Natural Resources hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in March 2022 for this talk: “Sense of place - Developing a culture of inclusion in the natural sciences.”
High school agricultural education and FFA programs prepare students for careers. But a national teacher shortage is making ag education positions more difficult to fill. The University of Nebraska recently announced plans to bolster recruitment, support and retention of high school ag-ed instructors. Matt Kreifels, an associate professor in UNL’s department of agricultural leadership, education and communications, talks about the efforts live on RFD-TV, April 20, 2022.
The College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources shows how it's fulfilling N2025 Aim 4: Broadening Nebraska's Engagement. The Early College and Career STEM program is teaching about food, energy, water and societal systems to 900 Lincoln Northeast High School students.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has impacted various agricultural markets, including the fertilizer market. Fertilizer prices, which were already high in late 2021, have increased further as a result of the ongoing conflict. Lia Nogueira, an associate professor of agricultural economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, talks about the issues live on RFD-TV, March 29, 2022.
Nebraska Extension shows how it is fulfilling N2025 Aim 2: Impactful Research and Creative Activity. Extension works with the states ag producers to conduct trans-disciplinary integrated beef systems research, extension and education.
