I wanted to keep supporting my CTP tribe, so in this video, my cousin @joos10 and I:

Skills Needed to be a Great Affiliate Marketer and Business Owner

Understanding and sticking to a budget
Accounting and economics basics (ie: supply and demand)
Writing and copywriting skills needed for blogging
Social media skills
Webmaster basics
Advertising basics
Building relationships (HUGE)
Critical Thinking Skills
Delegation, etc.

I came up with all of those skills AND reasons why it was a good idea to buy an adboard site for my son, Kai. This idea all started from my idea of moving away from my current adboard because they use Clickbank.com as their affiliate program management. Ick. I really don't like using ClickBank.com.

I talked to one of my friends on hive (@mba2020) about how I could remedy this since I knew that there was another adboard company that was selling adboards for the same price but with a slightly better payout for affilliates. We zoomed and chatted about it (thanks for the advice Chris!) and I decided to use the new adboard company as my primary adboard going forward.

I use these because they work. I give away free ads in exchange for people joining my list. They're obviously advertisers, on a budget, looking for ways to get eyes seen on their product or service. I can provide a valuable service to them for relatively cheap.

The logic in my mind is that I now have a commodity (ad space) on a site that people want to advertise on. I have seen similar sites work well in TEs and mailers. I know how those work quite well. Match made in heaven.

To get the views needed to make it work, I simply pay for traffic on some well-known sites that I frequent. I explained to my son how we can use arbitrage (buy traffic at a low price and sell the same traffic at a higher price) to earn money.

Seems like a win to me. (Hey @jongolson can you tell I've been reading for book club?)

Owning an advertising site is similar to having an evergreen product in my mind. You have a commodity that solves a problem for a niche: online marketers need traffic to their site. My site solves this need by providing a place to advertise their site\product or service. It's free, and the upsells are minor.

My thinking is that if I have a service I can provide to help people (in this case, it's offering free ad space), that has a couple of modest upsells, it's a good idea. I decided that it would be worthwhile to try a different adboard technology as the lead magnet for my list anywa. NO Clickbank, remember?

Currently I've been using Adcardz, but I have a lot of reasons why I was dissatisfied with their service.

While looking through some other ads online I came across another company that had an ad board that was nearly identical but had some fantastic behind the scenes features.

Enter Kai on the scene. My son and I have been talking about the entrepreneur side of owning a business. He's fascinated by that whole process.

We talked and I asked him if he understood some basics such as compound interest and profit and loss.

He has some gaps in his knowledge about math on how businesses work, but I am here to help him each step of the way. We decided that to help him learn the basics of entrepreneurship, investing, etc. I'll have him help me, and I'll work with him on the business side of it and teach him as we go.

We decided to divide up the work, and Kai would be paying for the lease of the business out of his allowance. That would give him an incentive to become profitable quickly. He's not paying with a credit card per se. I bought the service and am the one who owns it all. I just withhold the $14 out of his monthly $40.

Kai is taking the risk and fronting this with his own allowance. (He earns $10 a week or ~$40 per month). The cost of owning the ad board is around $14 per month. Our ad budget is the other $16 to round up to $30 per month.

What makes this unique is that it's a CLUB. Since the adboard includes a mailng list feature built in, and keeps track of everyone who has joined up to place an ad, Kai wanted to emphasize that it's a CLUB.

What a great spin on it! Instead of it just being an ad site, we are going to create a club, and it's free to join.

It IS the free ads club after all. :) Kai's idea of making it more about membership is a great spin and a way we can definitely capitalize on when it comes to our own advertising in the future. Love this kid.

So who owns it? I buy the ads and make all legal and financial decisions, but discuss it with him so he can see what I am doing and learn the skills he needs. I also screen all social media and emails for any accounts we have (since they're mine) to make sure it's clean. I am a dad after all. :)

I am the one who actually owned the business on paper since he's only 12. I would allow him to help me review ads, and make some fun videos like the one we made today. He's ALL in to say the least.

New @freeads.club Account for the new site for Kai I created a new account (@freeads.club) that Kai and I will use specifically for the new site we have. That way we can post from that account, and the author rewards will be easy to track and separate from what I do with @threesteps.

Financial Goals Our financial goals are straightforward, and we simply are investing approximately $30 per month on this entrepreneur project. I am using this as an opportunity to go through a lot of marketing concepts with Kai, and I figure the education he is getting is priceless compared to the $30 we're spending total.

How we Earn on FreeAds.Club: Now that we know our max budget, how are are we going to be profitable as a business?

1. Upgrades - There's only so many spots on the adboard. (scarcity) Upgrades are available for very small incremental costs. So we earn on the upgrades. It's not much. $1 here, $2 there. That's all that's needed though.

2. Affiliate Sales -We also earn commissions when people use our affiliate link on the adboard, and purchase their own adboard. It's a straight 50% commission on a $14 sale, or $7 per month recurring. The best part is that it's NOT ClickBank. :D

3. Email Marketing - The adboard has a mailing list management service built in, including segmenting the list based on who is paid vs. free, and sending recurring emails. Spiffy!

We can also really earn on our email marketing through recommending other products to marketers and helping them solve problems. This is the big win with this system vs. Adcardz.

4. Posts on Hive - Kai and I want to do more of the 'let's pick apart bad ads on a traffic exchange' recordings like we did tonight. We'll be making more of these. How we handle the Hive is discussed below.

I am really looking forward to working with Kai and showing him how to write a sequence of emails over time (or pay for someone to do it.).

Kai picked the domain name and the colors. :) He is excited and is very hands on. He even picked the domain name and color scheme for the site. We had a long discussion about leading with value, and how it pays to simply be available and help people solve problems.

Our goal is to be unique and have an adboard that Kai can manage and enjoy, while providing value and traffic to the users.

I explained how most businesses aren't profitable at the outset, and that he would really have to hustle to make the site worth some money.

What about Hive? As a method of raising the funds for our advertising budget, Kai and I are creating videos like the one above where we critique the ads of others on a traffic exchange, and have fun.

Any Hive that we earn from our videos, we stake 50% to the @freeads.club account to grow it and we use the other 50% on advertising.

How much of this can we do on-chain? Because I love Hive and want to see it grow more and more, I'd like for us to eventually get as much of this on-chain as possible. Therefore, our business' blog and our updates will be hive-based.

As we earn CTP and Hive, we can use those with firepay and hive pay to upgrade in some traffic exchanges, ListNerds, etc. as we grow, and keep as much of the proceeds from the blogging in-house. (IE: my previous article on fire pay

The short list Just like anything else that is worth doing, this will take time. I have plenty on my plate already and have decided to ditch one of my other posting types to concentrate on helping Kai and promoting this. Realistically this is a litmus test of all of the marketing skills I've picked up. I want to see him succeed, and doing so with the right business sense and ethos.

I think I impressed on him that there's a lot we need to do now that we own a business:

charting a direction (business plan)
sticking to the budget
buying a logo later on.
paying attention to and tracking all of our advertising since our budget is so thin.
documenting all of it for tax purposes.
making sure we test it all
write a LOT of follow up emails for the auto responder.

He gets it. Now let's watch and see how much hustle the two of us can generate.

That's it. Easy peasy. Lots to learn today, so let's jump in!

Watch CTP's Video "Golden Rule" of Email Marketing Login to Click Track Profit, and locate the "Golden Rule" of Email Marketing video.

This is a phenomenal module, which explains the difference between pushing and pulling when it comes to marketing.

You engage and PULL people toward you. I used the word PEOPLE for a reason. When writing, imagine an actual person on your email list. Treat the email you're writing like it's going directly to them, because it is.

People buy from those they know, like, and trust us.

How do you make that happen?

Engage! Pull more than Push. It works. Examples:

Inform people that they can follow you. Do this in your indoctrination email that let's them know what you're about.
Ask folks to engage with you on Social Platforms. (FYI, Follow me on Hive: @RobWillmann and @ThreeSteps )
Request that folks visit your blog. Engage and write comments.

For the majority of the time, focus on relationship building. Then on the other days, you occasionally write a 'push' email to let people know about your offer.

Realistically, you can push an offer after 3 or 4 other emails that are relationship building. That makes it more of a 4:1 or even 5:1 ratio. Still profitable, because people trust you.

Time for List Nerds. :)

Write & Test "Pull" Emails on w/ ListNerds. I love using ListNerds as my test bed. It's a great, easy to use mailer, and my responses are improving. I also use a couple of other mailers that I've chosen after testing.

Since this steps is about writing emails that pull, I went back and reviewed one of my emails that asks people to come discover my journey about #ThreeStepsNoExcuses. Here's an example. It's more of a hybrid and is a pull and push if you will. It works. :)

Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Email Marketing 101" video. The real nugget in this video is that email marketing gives the best ROI out of all other forms of online advertising.

Having my own list of around 460 folks on it, I can tell you right now without a doubt that this is 100% true. My email subscribers are the best, and they engage with me regularly. Just don't focus on the ROI. Focus on helping others. :)

Jon also mentions list segmentation. This is the process of creating a segment or portion of your list based on their likes\responses, etc. I've done this and it truly works.

In a nutshell, you can send a poll or other engagement tool to see who responds. Offer your action takers a lead magnet in exchange for signing up to a different list you own. Now you have two lists that you can use to reach out to, depending on the list's focus and what you have to say.

We'll cover this more in the future. For now, enjoy the CTP video, and start thinking about the list you have and how you can grow that via segmentation. (Hit me up in the comments if you have questions.)

Nurture your email list signups from List Nerds. This is more of a 'thinking' task. Let's consider your list.

I expect that you don't get a HUGE number of subscribers per day. That's fine! (and expected at this point.)

Those numbers in the screenshot above of my ListNerds results represents real people. Never forget it. I've made this point before but I think I will continue to emphasize that your list isn't comprised of email addresses. It's people.

Jon says this in today's pdf:

How true. Instead of worrying about growing the total number of subscribers, make your list about quality and engage your subscribers. That's the true win here.

Today's task isn't so much an action step. It's about taking time to consider how you think about your list. Think about them as real people and help them solve problems and you win.

I recently purchased Purple Cow (Seth's book) on my Amazon Kindle account so I can read it while I am out and about. Truthfully I like print books but I am trying to purchase less physical books and save some trees.

The concept is simple: If you were to look out a field of cows, and all of them looked like regular cows with the exception of one purple cow, your vision would be drawn to the one purple cow.

Likewise with our marketing efforts, we need to do more to stand out. There's plenty of ways to do so. The trick is to just stand out without relinquishing quality or value.

Actually be engaging instead of flyby's on Social Media. Authenticity sticks out.
Don't copycat. Come up with something original. Sure you can use someone else's idea, but add a twist to it.
Try using video if you don't normally.

I especially like this quote from Seth's book:

The goal here is to get you thinking about ways that you can stand out from the crowd. Really spend some time on this one.

Watch ClickTrackProfit's training video: "Tracking!" While I am more of a LeadsLeap fan for tracking than HistConnect itself, the principles seen in the video from Jon can still be applied to any tracking app, realistically.

The goal today is to track your links. When you write an email or ad, you should make sure that you use a tracking link every time. That way you can determine which ad source works and which to get rid of. Over time this will make your advertising more efficient, since you'll know which sources work best.

Once you've watched the training and understand the concent, it's time for List Nerds.

^ I tried to make that Call to Action rather obvious. :D

Use strong "CTA" (Call to Action) in ListNerds. Creating a great email subject that gets your email opened can be wasted if the person looking at your email fails to take action.

I would recommend reviewing your emails that you send via list nerds. Here's a checklist that will help you improve your click through rate.

Never make assumtions. If you want someone to take action, tell them what to do.
Keep your call to action short.
Try split testing different call to action phrases. For instance, you could have "Try Now", "Sign Up!", "Connect with Me", etc. and use an alternative as well. See which works better.

No matter if you use a physical whiteboard or a mindmapping site like mindmeister, the goal is the same: have a place where you can write down your ideas and be creative.

The screenshot above is from today's video, but it shows my whiteboard over my shoulder. Each day I list the three steps of the #3StepsNoExcuse challenge so when I see my board, I am reminded to keep these steps top of mind as I go about my day.

I highly recommend a decent whiteboard. If not, you can also use mind-mapping tools to accomplish nearly the same thing.

The increase in CTP tokes by 128 isn't a fluke. I sold off some of my smaller token holdings I'd been awarded and took the hive from the sale and bought ctp and staked them. The way I see it, it's CTP content that I am interested in first and foremost. Therefore it makes sense to me to leverage and increase my CTP holdings the most with this account.

I also consistently now earn curation rewards for daily upvoting and commenting, especially on the @ctpchat daily chat message. That's such a good way to get folks to

Try writing promo emails that are short and to the point. Think haiku. Think really short.

After all, you have only moments to get someone's attention. Use the best headline you have, followed by super short email body cooy.

1. Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Traffic in CTP?" video. Login to Click Track Profit, and locate the "Click!" section. The video you want is the last one in the section, named "Traffic in CTP?".

This is what I consider one of the 'meta'-level tactics. While using the functions within CTP to work on your brand, it does help with traffic long term.

Granted the gauntlet portion of CTP isn't a traffic exchange per se. It's a good way to get feedback about your site and grow your brand among CTP members. From that aspect it's really good at it's function.

There's also lots of links to the social media platforms where you can engage the CTP team and their members. This is a true win in the CTP platform. By engaging on social media, you begin building your brand within the ranks of the membership at ClickTrackProfit.

Reaching out and making contacts is a big part of winning at the internet marketing game. Leverage CTP when you can. It's what they're there for.

Time for List Nerds.

Review ListNerds emails and use what works. Critical to your email marketing success is the ability to test everything AND properly gauage the results. This is one of my favorite parts of internet marketing - when I can review my stats and see what truly worked.

Take a look at the screenshot above. You'll notice that the first and last email on the list are the same, subject-wise. However the top email had a CTR of 0.649%, which was way better than the 4th with 0.359%.

What was different with the two emails?

The one that clearly outperformed the other had one small difference inside the email itself: I replaced the click-through URL with a button instead. People like graphics and the button outperforms a plain link. Thanks @blainjones for the tip on this one.

Make sure that you test every portion of your emails. Split test with two emails that are the same and only very slightly different. Keep the one that outperforms the other.

This doesn't happen by pushing your list on people. That's something all of us have to work on.

Welcome to Day 7 of the #3StepsNoExcuses journey with me, Rob Willmann.

Today is Day 7 and I am glad you're along-side me on this journey. You may have noticed that I skipped yesterday. I did. No excuses. Moving on.

One of the real perks of doing this 30 day workout is that you have the support of the CTP tribe behind you. The first trip through this for me was stellar simply because it showed how supportive the entire CTP tribe is, and the results of having that support.

This was an easy one for me. I own an account that is specifically made for liking and commenting on the posts of others - my @threesteps account.

I love supporting others via online promotion. It really works, and when listening to Jon on this video, you can hear his passion. This is the heart of what we should do on the blockchain. Help others even if it's just by being encouraging.

Like and comment on other people's stuff.

Review Your ListNerd's email subjects and constantly test. I enjoy email marketing. At first, I was worried that I was doing it all wrong. (I'm sure I was). But once I started working on my emails, the quality of what I send and the subject lines, the engagement on my mailings went up.

I've been split testing my subjects on ListNerds, and running the same ad twice - once with a personalized subject (using the reader's first name) and another email with the same subject only not personalized.

One glaring change I've made is to use a 'Sign Up!' Button in my emails and on ListNerds instead of a regular text link asking for the click. That was a definite improvement in my overall results. Thanks Blain!

Yesterday I put some fiat into the game, and purchased ~ $140 USD in Hive. I staked 1/4 of the Hive and some of the CTP, and then I used the remainder to purchase Hive Index tokens for my #robwillmann account, since that's the account where I keep all my Hive Index. That purchase bumped me up the richlist to 22nd. I have a ways to go if I am going to surpass Blain. :D

Today is Day 6. Time flies when you enjoy what you do, and I definitely enjoy helping others through their 30 day journey.

This day rocks, because it drills home the idea that we actually have to START something.

Some people are great at dreaming big. Others are good at coming up with plans.

It's the ones who take ACTION on their plans to realize their goals that succeed.

Watch the ClickTrackProfit video "Podcasting". Your voice matters. Login to Click Track Profit, then head to the Training portion of CTP. Once there, find the "Click!" section and look for the "Podcasting" video and watch it.

I currently have plans to start my own podcast, and so far have:

narrowed it down to the number of times I am broadcasting per week (two),
located someone to do my intro\outro voiceovers (dwhightower)
have a timeslot picked out (early am)
have a service I want to start with (https://anchor.fm/)
purchased the material necessary to make a 'pop' filter for my Samson mic and hope to have this started soon.
own my own domain now (https://3Steps.Today) where I can promote and post my audio from the podcast.

Notice what's missing in the above list? a NAME!

I am still fidgeting over what to name this podcast, and am running out of time because I have to have a name picked out before I get the script done for the intro\outro voiceovers through fiverr.

I am anticipating that my initial broadcasting will most likely start in a few weeks if I stick to my plan.

However, my goal right now is for me to continue through this entire 30 day process and record videos daily to supplement what I already have content-wise for the #3StepsNoExcuses free e-course.

I can't start the podcast until after I am done with my current 30 day project, because I do not want to over-commit myself.

Let's talk about List Nerds.

ListNerds - Build the 2 B's and win.

Jon O really hammers the point home about building our own brand. I do this by promoting almost exclusively my current funnel. That way when folks are subscribed and on my mailing list, as they get to know, like and trust me, I am building a relationship.

Yet it all started with that first contact, most likely from List Nerds. That's why it's important to make sure that your marketing messages are building up you and your brand, business, and list.

Over time this wins.

Review your List Nerd emails to make sure your efforts are building your brand and not someone else's. Once you've made any changes to your emails, it's time to check out Plus 1 Success!

This is a great lesson, because the entire point is that we can plan and plan and plan, but if we never act on our plans, they're just wishful thinking.

For me, I decided to take action, create the 3Steps.Today site, start a curation account (this @threesteps one) and began promoting CTP, ListNerds, and Plus1Success. It worked. It still works.

Why? Because I took action. Look, I am nothing special.

Success online is about effort, persistency, consistency, and helping others.

If you can work on bettering yourself in those areas, you'll most certainly be successful. If nothing else, at the end of this journey of self improvement you'll be a better person, and that's a win in my book.

Now let's talk about crypto. (Entering #leo mode.)

These numbers look small now, but they grow daily, and I remember when my @robwillmann account was new. It won't take long before this account really starts to take off, especially with the delegations it's received.

Your 3 Steps for Day 5 of #3StepsNoExcuses 1. Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Hive" training video. It's stellar. 2. Use List Nerds and write a short, pithy email. Think haiku. 3. Watch Plus 1 Success "Connect With Someone New" and then take action.

Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Hive" training video. It's stellar. Login to Click Track Profit, and locate the "Hive" video near the middle of the "Click!" section like the screenshot up there.

This is a good intro to Hive. It's all about decentralization and crypto. Have.io backbone is where the data is stored (among witnesses) and lots of front-ends like CTPTalk, PeakD, Hive.blog, 3Speak, etc.

The analogy I like is this: Using a 'decentralized app or dApp' to access the Hive.io data is like using your browser to access a site on the internet. The underlying data doesn't change, but the frontend might. Kinda like using IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc. You use the browser to access a site. On Hive, you use a dApp to access the Hive.io data.

To join Hive, use the banner\link that's directly under the video in CTP. If you do sign up, let me know, and I can delegate some hive your way. :)

The best part of using Hive is that you can earn crypto by blogging, curating (liking), and commenting. It's a great match with affiliate marketing.

Let's talk List Nerds.

Use List Nerds and write a short, pithy email. Think haiku. When sending mail on a viral mailer, you have merely seconds to get someone's attention.

Write short emails. People on mailers have short attention spans.

If you send emails to mailers, so do a whole lot of other folks. When marketers are reviewing the emails from a mailer, they are interested in the 'credit link' in the email. It's the URL they click to get credit for reading the email. This means they are scanning your email.

Don't write the next huge novel. Write short sentences.

I started using this technique and it's highly effective.

Constantly test with List Nerds. Make sure that you are consistently testing with your ads on List Nerds. Split test and run the same email with two different subjects and see which one wins.

I recentyl heard the advice to use buttons not text links in emails in order to drive more clickthrough. I decided to test this, and modified my email for Saturday morning to include a button. I'll let this one run and see if my CTR increases. :)

The Hive blockchain is all about community and connection. It's quite easy to find people with common interest on Hive. One method that I have found that works is this: while curating content, if you find something really good, follow the author on Hive. Then leave a comment about WHY you liked their post, inform them that you are now following them, and leave it at that. I have had many people follow me back and then get engaged in my content.

Whatever method you choose, the goal is to get out there and meet some folks online. This is one of the best ways to build your brand, and reputation on the Hive blockchain.

Today is day 4 already. Wow! I know I am excited about building momentum with creating content and videos. The video portion is getting a bit better. Yesterday's video took me several takes to get right due to 'false starts'. However I feel like I am getting more in the groove of making these. :)

Your 3 Steps for Day 4 of #3StepsNoExcuses 1. Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Instagram" and "Youtube" training videos. 2. Check your CTR on List Nerds. Reviewing your mailing history is critical. 3. Watch Plus 1 Success "Try Something New" and act on it.

Watch ClickTrackProfit's "Instagram" and "Youtube" training videos. Login to Click Track Profit, and you'll see the "Instagram" and "Youtube" videos near the beginning of the "Click!" section like the screenshot up there.

I find it interesting that Jon likes Gary Vaynerchuk, who really uses Instagram. :P There's over a billion Instagram accounts so it's a huge social media platform that's very visually-oriented around video and photos.

I used Instagram for my dad jokes account, and published a lot of joke memes on Instagram. Definitely easy to use.

Get onboard with it. The recommended content is micro-videos, small bite-size pieces of content.

The Youtube video is very similar. Jon does a good job of explaining the main nav buttons across the top of the Youtube studio section. I used to use Youtube quite a bit, and made over a hundred dad joke videos. However I've switched to using 3Speak for my videos now and it's working out OK. I think I get better engagement here on the blockchain than I do on Youtube.

Regardless, it's worth watching the videos and expanding your knowledge. After completing this step, it's time for List Nerds.

Check your CTR on List Nerds. Reviewing your mailing history is critical. Click through rate is important when it comes to email marketing. It's the number of clicks within your email to the URL that you are promoting in the email.

For example, in the screenshot above, the top email sent on May 5th was sent to 5847 people. 52 of them opened the email. And of those, 19 clicked the link. Therefore it's 19/5847, which equals 0.325%.

The higher the clickthrough the better. Realistically, 19 clicks isn't bad from 52 opens. usually I am even higher, as you can see by the stats.

Each one of those numbers represents real people. We may be talking about stats, but those stats represent real folks. Never forget that.

After reviewing your own CTR on your List Nerd emils, check out Plus 1 Success!

In this video, it's all about trying something new and sticking out. Jon's video actually includes the 'vortex of death'. which we will discuss more of in a later post. For now, just remember that in order to get out of a rut or downward cycle, you have to try something new.

This is truly powerful stuff, and I definitely recommend that you get out of your comfort zone, try something new, and stick out. Be top of mind!
