The purpose of one’s life is to come closer to your Soul. We need to recognize the reality of our Soul as something that deserves our attention and energy. I believe our Soul is pulling us towards our highest purpose on earth. We need to acknowledge the Soul, learn its language, surrender to its demands, and accept the path it’s insisting upon. Where the ego wants to cling, the Soul demands surrender.

Coffee and Contemplation: Episode 10
“The best political, social, and spiritual work we can do is to withdraw the projection of our shadow from others”-Carl Jung
Our psyches are balanced, and if our ego is the “light” of our conscious awareness, our shadow is the “dark” part of our psyche. Dark does not necessarily mean negative, evil, or malevolent (although it can). When we speak of the shadow being dark it’s because it’s unconscious to us #coffeeandcontemplation

In this episode we discuss psychological projection and start to understand the language of our souls through anima/animus.
“Anima” refers to the animating principle of our lives. It’s the life force that gives us energy, excitement, and meaning. Anima is a Soul guide that if looked at via archetypal qualities can reveal what we hold highest in value. #coffeeandcontemplation

In this episode we map the different aspects of the psyche, discuss the process of individuation, and highlight the ego.
Integrating the different aspects of our psyche is called individuation and this process is dedicated to the real centering of our life, helping us become more authentically ourselves.
Working toward wholeness is freeing in a world where the expectation of perfection freezes us. “Perfect” is not a human quality; holding ourselves to that standard is to put roadblocks on the path of growth. The idea of perfection is a trick of our over-valued ego, constantly looking to resist any change we hope to make. #coffeeandcontemplation

Welcome to Coffee and Contemplation! In this episode I take time to re-introduce the podcast and what this project is all about. Each week Coffee and Contemplation hopes to pause the action, create insight, and direct our intention towards our inner world. Our current culture places such a heavy emphasis on working, achieving, doing, and attaining in the external. However, we rarely take the time to reflect on what’s happening inwardly to our bodies, minds, and Souls.

On this episode of Coffee & Contemplation I get to sit down with my friend Jimmy as we discuss his transitions from powerlifting to coaching track and other fun things! Check it out.
On this episode of C&C I discuss some recent updates in my life as well as how to handle transitional periods of time, patience, and “waiting” when things are out of your control.
On this episode of coffee & contemplation I have my first ever guest @jakemcgee_11. We discuss his recent endeavors with jiu jitsu/Muay Thai, the martial arts lifestyle, and the importance of detaching and thinking for yourself!
On this episode of coffee and contemplation I discuss the importance of self-awareness and being selective to the things you let influence you. Everything that enters your environment matters and you have the ability to decide how things influence you from the food you eat to your work and relationships.
On this episode of coffee and contemplation I drink a kombucha and discuss posture and how it influences mood. In physical therapy one of the most common diagnoses that we see is forward head posture and pathologies related to poor posture in general. Our plan of care may include manual therapy, strengthening, and education to help our patients become more aware of the positions they’re in throughout the day. Sitting and gravity play obvious key roles in the development of these impairments. In todays society we are almost forced into a rounded position over a computer, in a car, or on the couch. This position gives you decreased access to your diaphragm for ventilation and leads to increased use of accessory respiratory muscles (pecs, scalenes, sternocleidomastoid, etc) to help expand your rib cage and bring air into your lungs. However, this simultaneously increases tension and tone in this musculature leading to muscle shortening and a compensated over-lengthened position of other key postural muscles. The current PT approach to tackling forward head posture and Jandas upper and lower crossed syndrome is to lengthen facilitated muscles and strengthen inhibited muscles, diaphragmatic breathing education, changes to ones environment through things like ergonomic standing desks and encouraging frequent position changes.
These interventions are practical and useful but we’re missing a major aspect of our examination and plan of care. Poor posture isn’t just related to non-optimal positions and weakness. It is directly correlated to mood. Rounded shoulders and poor posture is a hallmark sign of decreased serotonin the “feel good” hormone in the nervous system and symptoms of depression. So my question to you is, when was the last time you let yourself win?
