We speak with lifelong artist, sculptor, writer, actor, and spiritual practitioner E Rydall, who lives for the creative life.
E. Rydall's bio: I began painting large things in my childhood—my brother’s fish house, a demolition derby car, a huge water bin and the inside of my Mom’s dress shop. These experiences were some of the most vivid of my early years because the impulse to express with paint was so intensely present. High school brought sales of watercolor paintings depicting the rural area of Minnesota I grew up in, surrounded by the beauty of lakes and small farms. Always interested in contemplation, and ideas of a spiritual nature, I also painted people in acts of solitude and thought.
At college at Moorhead State University I became a guerilla painter and one night broke into the storage closet of my dorm and confiscated whatever paint was available and went at the walls of the common room. Much to my surprise I was not ousted from school, but instead commissioned to do more! Then, in junior and senior years won the recognition of “Best Watercolorist at Moorhead State University” while I also be came involved in theatre and dance. I graduated with a degree in Art with 101 extra credits—40 of them in watercolor--really liked school.
While working as an actor in Los Angeles I got interested in a painter’s co-op and began showing and selling pieces of fine art. A peak experience was selling a painting to a patron who hung it next to an original Picasso sketch.
Throughout these years I have won many awards and also done many murals on the walls of Academy of the Canyons, United Jewish Appeal, Santa Clarita Valley International School, First Serve Tennis, The Paseo Club, etc. A large canvas is my pleasure, but I have also enjoyed working smaller in commissioned pieces. In addition I have illustrated recipe books, made posters, worked on theatre sets, and sold greeting cards.
Presently I have an online store, and teach a few art classes.
Learn Beyond the Book and WorldOver are the two schools I work with.
