We live in a time of unparalleled opportunity and uncertainty. We are presented simultaneously with more resources, tools and challenges than at any time in all of human history. There is a wealth of information available to us. Like nothing we’ve ever seen. And despite the near miraculous presence of it, these times of change and upheaval have us all struggling to keep pace and maintain focus on the things that matter most in life. Clear Fit Coaching is here to help.
I've been away for far too long! Welcome back (me and you!) to the Clear Fit Coaching Podcast. Today we talk about GRATITUDE and the difference it can make in your day-to-day experience especially in terms of presence and appreciation for the people, things, and circumstances we find ourselves in. We'll dive deeper in forthcoming episodes, but this intro will help get me back on track! I'm looking forward to talking with you!

Role models and heroes often possess a combination of certain defining characteristics that set them apart and make them influential figures.
Good role models consistently demonstrate strong moral and ethical principles, acting in a manner that aligns with their values and beliefs. This isn’t to deny them room for error. We’re human and make mistakes. But how they handle errors – how they respond to their shortcomings - is a big indication of the strength of character they possess.
In relationships where you serve as a role model for others, how do you evaluate that responsibility? How does it affect your decisions and behaviors? Do you have this role – this identity – defined as one that you work on to grow and improve on?

Why do we sometimes fail to change habits and behaviors even for things we know will make us happier, provide fun memories, and improve our health and outlook in life?
Failing to change habits and behaviors, even when we know they will make us happier, expand our horizons, and improve our lives, can be attributed to various psychological, emotional, and environmental factors. These are fun because they seem to lead from one to the next.

I want to talk about the power of executing our ideas and the commitments and behaviors that can help us complete a project or accomplish a goal.
As an action-oriented POV for this topic, I want to talk about how we are largely defined - both by ourselves and others - by what we do and the actions we take. This isn’t to say that the self-reflection and time with our thoughts isn’t incredibly important, but in terms of what we achieve creatively, personally, or professionally, we’ll take a good look today at the observable behaviors and actions we take in our journey of self-improvement and development.

This week we explore a number of practices with regard to savoring, gratitude, kindness, relationships, and meaning. Please share this! I'm looking for feedback and want to provide this as a resource knowing so many are in need of help right now.
This discussion is based on the findings of Shueller and Parks in their paper "The Science of Self Help: Translating Positive Psychology Research into Increased Individual Happiness.

Learning from contrasting situations is a valuable cognitive process that allows individuals to gain insights, develop critical thinking skills, and expand their understanding of the world. Contrasting situations can encompass a wide range of experiences, including novelty, deep observation, and the perspective of an outside observer. Creativity, a clean slate, and the chaos of a given situation can all widen our perspective and help move us beyond "the usual."

It's been a while! I'm going to share some experiences while traveling this summer and some of the forgotten benefits to not always having he answer. How we experience things when our attention is dedicated, the learning that is only possible with intention, the quality of interaction with the people in our lives, and the value of our experiences as result of all of this leads to a quality of life that is hard to quantify. And while there are certainly benefits to technology and the information available to us today, don’t let it be a barrier to the experience you’re having.
We often cite the potential of a project or ambition; new business or fitness plan – telling ourselves and others about the great things we can do with some effort and time. But how often do we catch ourselves telling this story for too long? Or stop telling it with time because we’ve not taken the action to get things going. And this is where the safety of the situation is often unacknowledged. A rocket on the launchpad is relatively safe. We can see the potential – talk of the amazing things we’ll accomplish – and share the design of the craft and direction we’re looking to explore.
But ignition brings a whole new set of risks. Inertia works against the mental and spiritual pursuits as much as it does the physical. Building momentum is hard. And risky. Scary even. The first steps are often the hardest! We consume the most fuel at launch, but once we get some movement, inertia can start working for us, too. Acceleration becomes less costly.
And now we start to learn. This is when the rewards come. Yes, the safety of the pad can help us to conserve energy – maintain the day-to-day and familiar – but it’s only with the launch that we grow.
In this episode, we explore 10 common traits of highly successful people and how they apply to coaching. While these qualities are common among driven individuals who seek life coaching, it's important to note that everyone is unique, and individual characteristics may vary. Life coaching can help individuals harness their existing qualities and develop new ones to enhance their success and achieve their desired outcomes.
The challenges we face differ in many ways, too, but the bones and strategy to overcome them are remarkably similar at times. They’re often known to us or hiding, surprisingly, in plain sight.
My job as a professional coach is to help my clients develop the strategies and skills needed to overcome those challenges. Challenges that often seem like the same lesson presented over and over. Well, nothing changes if nothing changes. And if you’re at a point where you’re ready to break free of that cycle, I’m here to help.
What are you working toward? What areas of your life do you consider most important? Does the time you devote to these areas reflect that statement? Have you found that you're challenged to find the time to address the needs of your health, happiness, relationships, and fun as well as work, responsibilities and daily to-dos? Being busy can be good. Being busy can be productive. But it can also get away from us or be used as a tool of avoidance. Are you being honest with yourself on what's keeping you busy these days?
Being decisive is foundational to personal development, leadership, and achievement. It is a skill that can be developed, strengthened, and used to propel you forward in your career, relationships, and all pursuits in life. In this episode, we discuss some of the key concepts of process, expectations, and results you'll encounter in taking action on decisions.
I know that this workout, the 75 Hard, has been out for years, but I've recently re-engaged with it with a few friends and have some thoughts to share. This is the first in a series of quick notes on fitness as part of our overall health and I hope you find it beneficial.

Sometimes our habits come with efficiencies. And we've heard a lot about bad habits in regard to eating, movement, and other target areas (some a bit exploitive and working to sell you). In this episode, we'll review some common communication types, how they're used, and when they may be in need of examination.
Seems counter-intuitive, but routines can free you in a few important ways. They also provide a measure by which to see your progress and attendance to skills, tasks, and goals. Freedom is not a word often associated with a checklist, but in this episode I'll share some surprising insights I've gained in using them.

The people we surround ourselves with, in part, define us. This isn’t new. You’ve heard it before. But it’s worth reminding ourselves about the power of our company. We learn through socialization. We advance – as individuals and as a collective – on the experiences we share with one another.
You can play up to the competition. We see this happen in sport all the time. Great players can draw out the best in others. You can surround yourself with people who are accomplished, active, goal-oriented, encouraging, supportive and benefit from their company and influence tremendously.
Or...
You can be negatively influenced by people, lower your standards or run with the wrong crowd.
In this episode we'll explore the obvious choice.
Suffering is inevitable. But the source of our struggle matters. We have to be aware of the source and why we suffer, how we respond to and process our pain, and how we can control and formulate the outcome of a situation. How we experience motivation, manage the expectations of ourselves and others, and face the challenges in front of us defines us. We have the power to adapt. We have the power to start. And effort adds value.
If you’ve slipped on a goal or a promise you’ve made to yourself or someone you care about, don’t let that slip stop you.
The problem or change you’ve identified – taken the time to recognize and admit to yourself and maybe others that it’s time to amend – it’s not new. So you missed a day, or repeated the behavior, or acted in a way or responded to something you said you’d stop doing. Okay. That’s behind you now and you’ve got a chance to give it a quick review, be honest with yourself about the nature of the slip, and start again.
Conversely, if you’re still on track and achieving that goal for the new year or the month, good for you! Keep it up! Have you taken the time to review the changes that you’re seeing? Journaling in some fashion of tracking it in a way that delivers some satisfaction in the action? If you’ve been eating better and exercising, are you feeling better? Sleeping better? Making better choices in other areas? Make sure you take the time to recognize those things and help them motivate you, too.
Actionable steps you can take, starting right now, to help improve your happiness and quality of life. These are concepts that are familiar to us but that require attention and routine to maintain. They require action. And this is a great time to consider them and put them in place. In this episode we'll talk about the benefits that come from patience, differentiation, forgiveness (of others and yourself), creativity, investment and movement.
Dry January is about you taking a break, living better, feeling better. The rules are simple - no drinking from the time you wake up on January 1st until February 1st. That’s all. Starting your new year in a way that feels good, resets the clock a bit and gives your body a break after the holidays.
Dry January is something that millions of people take part in every year. It’s a good opportunity to take stock in the role alcohol plays in our lives, health, and other considerations. Our management of stress, how we spend our time and money, sleep behavior, moods - the list is long. Not drinking can help you sleep better. You will find you have more energy. You can improve your mental health and concentration. You’ll look better and develop healthier skin, save money and feel a strong sense of achievement. I promise you won’t miss any hangovers.
It's about that time! Looking at a few common areas of interest for improvement this week. I'm hoping to help you take the time to sit down, reflect on achievements and goals to come, break them into actionable milestones and get started. Family, Career and Life Balance, Fitness, Travel, Friendships, Gratitude, and Investments in YOU!

Our senses come alive with in-person experiences. And there are people that demonstrate the power of living true to yourself on a daily basis. How lucky we are when these two forces converge! It can be mind blowing.
Fulfillment is not selfish. Living up to your potential and applying your skills, talents, and resources to meaningful goals is an act of generosity. This episode shares one such experience. I hope you enjoy the story, but more importantly, I hope you get the chance to experience something similar soon. Or maybe create it.
Friendship is a process, not a title to be taken for granted. I've had the chance to reconnect with a lot of old friends lately - mainly through this effort at Clear Fit Coaching - and I've had some questions about the idea that "some people just don't seem to change."
Well, the truth is they do. We all do. And that impression of someone unchanged is in our head - and not based in reality. In this episode, I reflect on assumptions that can hinder us with regard to old friends. And I share a few thoughts about new friends, too.
A discussion of the nature of change, why it presents challenge for so many, and how we can develop skills and an approach to better handle the situation. Change is, after all, the nature of improvement. The better we get at managing it now, the better we'll be served going forward!

There are so many things to consider for those of us who have kids that are on the college track. Application season is upon us and we're facing a lot of new and challenging situations. Take the time to talk with your kids, spouse and partners. View the subject from different perspectives and make the most of this time! It's challenging, new, (a little scary) and exciting!
Looking back 40 years, what's changed? What's the same? What can we learn? In this episode, I highlight a few key events and explore the changes and predictions we've seen recently and over longer periods of time.
Season changes can offer a great mid-term point of evaluation. We have the chance to take a look at what's in process, assess how things are going, and take the time to put things in place for the upcoming season or return of the previous one next year. I also talk a bit about my experience over the last several weeks taking time from each day to note things I'm thankful for. Enjoy!
Procrastination is a challenge for most everyone. In this brief episode we'll cover ways to identify and effectively combat this bad habit. This also serves as an introduction to Clear Fit Coaching and my approach to subject material. It's provided to give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with my services.
