Are you a people manager?

How do you deal with giving feedback to your team?

Giving positive feedback may be easy, but with people working remotely, even this can be overlooked.

Meanwhile, negative feedback may be a difficult conversation that people managers put off until the year-end appraisal. But this means that the employee does not get a chance to work on constructive feedback as soon as possible.

Mindset coach Lesley Moule went from a high-powered and stressful job to an illness that turned her own body against itself.

Lesley had a sudden reaction to hair dye and then prolonged illness that was eventually diagnosed as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) where some of the cells that are within our bodies overreact to perceived threats.

That meant she could only eat certain foods, was forced to stop using beauty products, and take other restrictive measures.

While treatments like anti-histamines gave some relief, along with changing dietary and other lifestyle changes, Lesley’s breakthrough also included hypnotherapy to retrain her mind that she is not at constant threat and help her relax and deal with stress.

Lesley is now a trained hypnotherapist herself, helping people shift their mindset from illness to health. She works with those with phobias, anxiety, addictions, and a whole range of other issues.

She shares with us how to get the most out of hypnotherapy and how it can help.

The elevator pitch is often hailed as an important part of promoting yourself or your brand, but is there a better way?

Yes, according to John Lees, career strategist, speaker, and author of many books including The Success Code: How to Stand Out and Get Noticed.

He says that may of us struggle with talking about ourselves with around 10% of people doing it quite naturally, 10% never doing it, and the other 80% need to learn a “quieter, more authentic, more natural style” of talking about themselves.

John says that the elevator pitch is “cheesy” and very “surface level” and unlikely to be remembered for very long, while speaking about a topic that you are passionate about presses people’s entertainment buttons which means people are more likely to remember it – and you!

In this Improve Radio quick listen, John shares some of his tips for talking about yourself that move away from awkward norms of self-promotion, including the elevator pitch.

With increasing numbers of home workers sitting at their dining room tables or on their beds to work, Alexander Technique teacher Helen Ball has created a simple new system called Desk-Life, to show how we can all prevent or reduce back and neck pain.

Helen now 41, suffered from acute back pain in her 20’s and 30’s but since she has been practicing and teaching The Alexander Technique, she no longer suffers and has been inspired to share this with others.

Desk-Life is a new video course for people to work at the best, at their desk. Six simple videos demonstrate how to sit, stand, rise from your chair, set up both a seated and standing workspace and take a break.

Too often we’re left thinking there is nothing we can do when we get back or neck pain; but my experience taught me that small changes can have a big effect. I have been receiving feedback from people across the world that Desk-Life is helping them and it is a real dream come true to have such an impact on people’s daily lives.”
