The world is a scary place, especially for believers. In our final chapter of Joshua, we are reminded of the history of God’s goodness and grace and reflect on our only proper response- wholehearted worship and devotion.

Will you be like Caleb and obediently follow God because you focus on His promises or will you be like Ephraim and give in to fear and despair?
Do you trust and obey God only in the big events of your life or in the little tedious moments of every day? These chapters provide an example of a lack of obedience in the little things and an example of faithfulness to God in all things.
The climactic battle of this book once again reminds us that God is mighty and faithful. Those who follow Him don’t need to fear anything!

Do you only inquire of the Lord when you’re not sure about a decision? Confidence in yourself can lead to trouble as it did for the Israelites in today’s reading.
In Romans, Paul said we must also “consider… the severity of God.” This section of the Book of Joshua teaches us the same thing. If we want to appreciate God’s mercy and grace, then we must understand the seriousness of rebellion against Him and what we deserve because of our sin.
The story of Jericho does not focus on the battle or even the miracle of the walls falling. It is about the importance of submitting to God, trusting and obeying.

Esther humbly trusts in God’s providence while Haman pridefully desires the death of an entire race of people. While an extreme case, Haman is an example of the problem of pride in our own lives.
God has orchestrated all the little events of your life to put you where you are right now for the purpose of bringing Him glory. The same thing can be said of Esther as revealed in this chapter. The question for Esther and for us is how do you now respond?
In their discussion of chapter 3, Tiffany and George define and present the consequences of pride, as seen in the character of Haman. They also discuss how Haman’s decree might have affected the faith of God’s people.
George and Tiffany discuss the second chapter of Esther in which we are introduced to the two protagonists of the book. Esther and Mordecai don’t start off as heroes of the faith but should point us to examine our own hearts if we’ve sold out to the culture.
George and Tiffany begin a study on the book of Esther, examining the unseen providence of God and the ridiculousness of what the world thinks is valuable.
Tiffany and George conclude the study of the book of Ruth, in which there is the marriage of Ruth and Boaz and the birth of their son. However, God, who’s been at work in the entire story, has so much more planned than these characters realize!
We need not be fear about future mistakes nor live with regret about past mistakes. God’s sovereignty is big enough to cover them all and accomplish His will. George and Tiffany discuss this theme and more in this look at the third chapter of the book of Ruth.
The Lord works subtlety, using what appears to be coincidences to accomplish His will and bless His people. All we need to do is act practically (like Ruth) and live for His glory (like Boaz) and trust God to handle everything. God’s sovereignty is revealed in the storm and fish as He saves the souls of pagan’s sailors and begins the process of brining Jonah out of his rebellion.
George and Scotty discussed the final two chapters. They are a great summary of the entire book, covering the themes of judgment for the rebellious and mercy for the repentant. The chapters also finish with a great promise we can look forward to- the new heavens and the new earth!
