I really enjoyed my interview with Dr. Shivani Gupta. I hope you get as much as I did from my conversation with her as I did.
So what about Dr. Gupta? Dr. Shivani Gupta is a renowned leader in the health and wellness industry. She is here to share Ayurveda with the world with a Western twist - teaching Doshas, Circadian Rhythm, Sleep Optimization, Igniting the Digestive Fire, and Gently Detoxing so we can all win at our health.Growing up, she battled chronic illness due to a weak immune system. After discovering her family's history of diabetes was impacting her health, she found Ayurveda, which transformed her life.
After studying with Ayurvedic gurus In India and receiving a Master's in Ayurvedic Sciences as well as a Ph.D. in Turmeric, Dr. Gupta realized that a Fusionary Formula was the secret to health. She is a pioneer in paving the way for Ayurvedic formulas to be the standard of care in doctor's offices. She is pushing the envelope to publish more science on Ayurveda, Turmeric, and Circadian Rhythm.

In today's episode, I discuss finding peace and your true self in living with chronic illness or autoimmune disease with Xenia Brandstetter. She used to work in Finance until she fell ill in her mid-20s with multiple autoimmune diseases. She couldn't keep up with my job and my life, was bedridden for a while, and eventually decided to quit while focusing only on my recovery. During that time, she overshot and became obsessed with living a healthy lifestyle, struggling with depression and disordered eating. She was eventually able to turn it around and find balance, which is when true healing finally happened for me. She is now symptom-free and became a health coach because I want to support others who are going through the same thing & share my knowledge!

In this week's Stronger Than Autoimmune podcast episode, I discuss chronic pain with Dr. Afton Hassett. A subject that autoimmune warriors know all too well. Dr. Afton L. Hassett is an Associate Professor and Director of Pain and Opioid Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan. She is a principal investigator at the Chronic Pain & Fatigue Research Center who has over $14M of research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Viewed as a leader in the field of chronic pain and resilience, she recently gave the Keynote address at the 2023 Pain Consortium Symposium on Advances in Pain Research for the NIH. While studying established treatments for chronic pain and developing new approaches is her passion, her frustration is that exciting research discoveries rarely make it to the people who could benefit the most. Thus, Afton’s mission was to write Chronic Pain Reset to bring evidence-based strategies from research and academic medical settings directly to people who live with chronic pain with the hope that they will gain new tools to lead more rewarding lives with less pain.

It’s a blend of 8 organic mushrooms—including reishi, chaga, lion’s mane, and cordyceps—in a convenient capsule form. I get the incredible benefits of mushrooms—more energy, sharper focus, and stronger immunity—without having to give up my DELICIOUS morning coffee! For a limited time, the folks at Adapt Naturals are offering my audience 15% off their first order.

My guest today is Elle. She is a chronic illness warrior, sex coach and educator. For the last 3 years, she had taught and presented, and written for organizations including Mental Health America and the Endometriosis Foundation of America. Today, I will be introducing you to Traniece Lewis, the CEO of Happy Gut Foods. Happy Gut foods is a San Antonio food company that uses the ancient art of fermentation to preserve and transform food. They create small batches and use local, organic, clean ingredients. I brought Traniece on the show to share how she got started with Happy Gut Foods and What Happy Gut Foods can do for you.
Fermented foods are Kefir, Kimchi, Yogurt, Kombucha, Pickles, Sauerkraut, Sourdough bread, Miso, Tempeh, Raw Cheese, Apple Cider Vinegar, Kvass, Natto.
According to Health Benefits of Fermented Foods, a Pubmed research study, microorganisms contributing to the fermentation process have recently been associated with many health benefits, and so these microorganisms have become another focus of attention. During fermentation, these bacteria synthesize vitamins and minerals, produce biologically active peptides with enzymes and remove some non-nutrients. Compounds known as biologically active peptides, which are produced by the bacteria responsible for fermentation, are also well known for their health benefits. Among these peptides, have a blood pressure lowering effect while I can go on and before I bore you… As a result, fermented foods provide many health benefits such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-atherosclerotic activity.

Today I will introduce you to Beth Lendrum, a wellness educator, healer, and creator of the 4 Minute Flow. After experiencing a serious health challenge, she studied modalities like Reiki, Eastern nutrition, Chinese Medicine, Massage Therapy, and essential oils. It is through Jin Shin Jyutsu that Beth reclaimed her health. Beth's goal is to teach people self-care techniques that help them on their journey to wellness. These practices support the body whether it is a chronic illness, cancer, fatigue, stress or recovering from a sports injury. Jin Shin Jyutsu is also extremely effective in the healing of latent emotions in the body including, stress, anxiety, grief and trauma. I brought her on the show to give warriors a tool for symptoms. I hope you are able to take away a valuable tool to help with flares, trauma, insomnia or anything else you are dealing with in the moment. If you are interested in working with Beth see the show notes below.

Today I invited, Marisa Ortiz, an Artist and entrepreneur offering talent development consulting, intercultural training programs and Strengths coaching in English and Spanish to global leaders, international organizations and multicultural teams. She has been using Gallup's talent development tool StrengthsFinder, since 2011.
I invited her on the podcast because individuals with autoimmune disease are in a battle with one self, the body, mind, and emotionally.
With autoimmune there is only so much energy in a day. I was interested in Strengthsfinder because it may help with fatigue. Instead focusing and forcing a way of being to embracing who you are, it may help with the stress we put on ourselves and create harmony with our minds and body because it is natural.

I am your host Desiree Werland. As a health coach and a person who has autoimmunity. I know, what you put on your skin matters just as much as what you eat. The skin is an organ that absorbs everything and sends it through the bloodstream.
Some skin care companies describe their products as “natural’ but when you read the ingredient list they are filled with chemicals like parabens, synthetic colors, and fragrances
That is why I am excited to share my interview Lika. The founder of, In The Weeds Natural Skin Care. We discuss not only her stringent quality control of her products but what resiliency means to her and how she has created healthy boundaries for herself.
Thank you for listening to my interview with Lika. I hope you found her story as inspiring as I did. If you are interested in her products and in the San Antonio area, they can be found at Blue Star Provisions, Bee Wallace Café and other boutiques. If you shop farmers markets, her products are at Alamo height and New Braunfels. Of course can always find her products online by going to shopintheweeds.com
