One of the most frustrating parts of Star Citizen is its instability. While servers cause many problems, our computers also struggle to hit FPS targets. Today I’m joined by TenPoundFortyTwo to discuss PC performance in Star Citizen, why your computer doesn’t run the game all that great, and when it may get better.

  • Over the last few weeks Star Citizen has technically achieved it’s 2017 stated goal of a server meshed environment. While there is plenty more work to be done until it runs as needed for the game at large, early results are impressive. As Star Citizen is built, the slow process has produced amazing moments and fun gameplay. But at the end of all of this, the game won’t work with the proper MMO backend. CIG is blazing a trail in the gaming industry, and trying to construct something never done before in gaming. With decades of experience in software and network engineerin between them, my guests today hope to shed some light on just how phenomenal the system is, and how difficult it will be to run. Today we sit down with Tybio and Kevin Riggle of recent Star Citizen reaction fame to discuss server meshing with the pros.

Star Citizen is a complicated topic, and a $48,000 puchaseable item is sure to raise a couple eyebrows, as it has recently. The general gaming community, understandably, is a bit skeptical and taken aback by Star Citizen, so today Bethesda-focused Youtuber @LoneVaultWanderer was kind enough to join me to discuss the outside perception and misconceptions surrounding the project, as well as the controversy and general negative coverage of the game that leads to its reputation. If there’s one thing everybody in Star Citizen can agree on this year, it’s that something has changed. Whether it’s tech like PES, gameplay like salvage, or game defining systems like the cargo refactor, the game we are playing now is much different than previous years. But there’s more to it than that, the game is expanding it’s presence in the community and beyond. Today, I’m joined by AbdiYohan to take a deeper look at this change over the course of 2023.

One year ago salvage didn’t exist in Star Citizen. Now there are 3 methods of doing so, and tons of missions to choose. This change was quick, but it’s not over yet. While structural salvage introduced another step to salvage, it’s far from complete and polished. Today Dedleader and I go over the existing salvage gameplay, and how it’s expect to continue changing in the future.

With the first preview of the Pyro channel complete, many players are wondering how much fo the gameplay seen is what the system actually aims to achieve. This week on the Launch Sequence Podcast I’m joined by Youtuber and former CIG employee The Pilot. Known for ship videos in Elite Dangerous, The Pilot changed over to Star Citizen and subsequently began working for the company as well. Today I pick his brain to hear what it’s like to work on the gargantuan project, vying for insight into the game, and getting his opinion on what’s coming next.

With Starfield soon releasing, comparing it with Star Citizen has become a weekly topic (even around these parts). But these games are actually very different, and not just in gameplay but in origin, timeline, and overall mission + design. Today I want to dive deep into what makes Star Citizen such a unique and exciting project, while also looking at the draw of Starfield in comparison. For this comparison, I’m joined by Escape From Tarkov Youtuber g0at to discuss what draws him to both, and what annoys him.

Some features in Star Citizen are introduced and discussed, but not experienced. The dynamic economy is one of the biggest features that falls into this trap. But what does it include, and why aren’t we seeing it in-game? Today, joined by TheSpaceCoder, I’ll be taking a look at the problems with the economy in Star Citizen, how the Quantum Simulation aims to fix them, and when we might start experiencing it firsthand.

While news is slow, Star Citizen is due for a new update soon. Alpha 3.20 is right around the corner, but still in a pretty unpredictable position in terms of the full feature set and exact timing of the new patch. With features like master modes and a ship like the Hull C coming in, though, there’s a lot to discuss. This week I’m joined by Croncy to look at expected features in 3.20 as well as expected goings on at CitizenCon in October, Star Citizen’s biggest annual event.

One of the biggest launches of the year in 2023 is actually a space game. I couldn’t be happier! But it’s also a video game in 2023, game launches are a tricky lot, now. Is it possible that our excitement for Starfield is leading to overhype? Absolutely! But today I want to talk about WHY that is happening, and of course, acknowledge our biases. Join Morphologis and myself as we discuss the pros and cons of Starfield, and whether it’s worth getting so excited about.

Halfway through the year, I’m afraid the outlook for Star Citizen’s bigger features is not shaping up to be as good as I’d hoped. A lot of work that looked set for Q3 of 2023 is now looking like Q4 (shocked). That doesn’t mean we aren’t still getting a lot of new content throughout the remainder of 2023. This week on the Launch Sequence I’m joined by CasaBlack who keeps a close eye on Star Citizen communication to talk about where some anticipated new ships and features may land throughout the second half of 2023.

Star Citizen is a game built around risk, choice, and consequence. Your preparation and knowledge will help you avoid gameplay you don’t want, and for many that’s PvP. With the recent Starfield showcase, there have been many questions about how it might impact Star Citizen. There’s no denying Star Citizen has struggled with development speed, and many are ready for a more polished experience. But there is a reason people continue to play the game and many more reasons players might stick with it in addition to Starfield. In this episode, Youtuber Loud Guns joins me to discuss this reason and how players might look at these 2 games going forward.

Since 2017 Star Citizen has jumped back and forth between barely playable and passable. Throughout all this time a combination of server and client-side optimizations needed to be made to improve the game. Some of these optimizations have occurred, but many more are needed.

So what does it take for your PC to run the game at 60 FPS, how long until we can all enjoy that stability, and is 2023 the worst performance we’ve ever had? Today I’m joined by Star Citizen benchmarker TenPoundFortyTwo to discuss.

As a gamer who comes from the likes up KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Deus Ex for my sci-fi fix in gaming, RPGs have a special place in my heart. So a new space RPG has all of my attention. The sci-fi game genre has been struggling for quite some time, creating the chance for something new to tentpole the genre. Will Starfield be that mainstream, quality space game the industry has been waiting for? Today, I’m joined by The Astro Historian to discuss everything we saw in the Starfield showcase in June and give our thoughts on who might enjoy the game.

Item finders are an every-day tool of many Star CItizen players, but with update 3.18.1 their long-relied upon methods may need to change. With a change in the way items are stored in the game code, players may need to actually track down an item to know where it might be. This simple change could have huge ramifications for trade, cargo hauling, exploration, and data running in the near and distant future. I’ve invited the creator of the Star Citizen Universal Item Finder to discuss this change and what it could mean for the game.

Many believe PvP is crucial to Star Citizen, many disagree vehemently. But PvP is not the only form of player interaction, and limiting these interactions can be a slippery slope. New cities, new underground facilities, and new outposts. With the recent in-depth revelation of a large organized cheating/hacking ring in Star Citizen, many players are wondering why it matters or what they can do about it. Today, I’m speaking with 11’s Hangar about a cheating ring he has discovered along with others. With the ability to transport players anywhere, make any weapon rapid fire, and turn players invisible, this cheat could be mistaken for glitches, and can also change the testing environment. This special episode of The Launch Sequence hopes to inform players of what this could look like, how they can respond, and the ramifications of these cheats.

I have always wondered how Star Citizen would go about accommodating all its players with cities. They need a reason to exist, enough gameplay to take a considerable amount of time, and a convincing way to tie into a space sim. In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Youtuber & bounty hunter The Eradicator to talk about some of the major features that set this game apart over the years, as well as some of the others that are coming up sooner than you might think.

There are plenty of reasons to be unhappy with the current state of Star Citizen, but the excuse is always what lies ahead, a truly next-gen space experience. But many players just want to enjoy the game now. What is more important to you, and can the game focus on both? SaltEMike joins me for another show where we analyze the game being made versus the game being played. Star Citizen’s popularity continues to grow as we finish Q1 and receive the first update of the year. Development is moving fast, the year’s rewards are up in the air, and new players are jumping in every day. Today I’m bringing in a guest I tracked down on Reddit after seeing their testimonial. Not only did this player just start playing, they only found out about the game weeks ago. So let’s pick their brain to discover what their experience has been and what it’s like to jump into something like this blind.

From a relatively ignored and sometimes mocked patch to one of the best in a long time. Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 is currently in open testing before being pushed out to the live Star Citizen servers, and there is A LOT in this update that was not previously known about. So I brought in 2 Star Citizen veterans to talk about what’s in this update, why the additions are so important, and why the update is taking so long.

As of Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 there are not many characters in the verse. 2 of the existing characters, The Voice of New Babbage and Agent Rowena Dulli (of the Xenothreat Event), are portrayed by the same person. Star Citizen is an open game, it provides tools and dishes out consequences, which is true even in PvP gameplay. While there is a difference between piracy and griefing, the fact of the matter is both will occur. But where will they occur, why will they occur, and what can you do to avoid them? I discuss with Farrister and Avenger__One after their own discussion garnered a lot of attention.

Open development allows Star Citizen to share more about its development than almost any other game on the market, but that doesn’t mean everything is shared at all times. For years SC Leaks(now PIPELINE) has been a go-to destination for backers to learn just a little more about what’s going on in CIG, but just recently a massive shift has taken it in a different direction. Today I talk with the owner and founder of SC Leaks about this brand change, what led to it, and the history of the group as a whole. We also discuss other potential leaks this year and general Star Citizen news.

Note: This is primarily an informative podcast and is not meant to share leaks or take sides, don’t expect much unknown information. Enjoy!

Star Citizen exists in a small genre. Space Sims are popular, but they are few and far between. Elite Dangerous has announced that future console development is ending for the game. This could be good and bad for the PC side of game development going forward. While things could accelerate, this could be a sign of slowed development. Down To Earth Astronomy is a prominent name in the community who joins me for this episode to discuss the news, what it means for the industry, and how it might affect Star Citizen

A big part of what makes Star Citizen so great is the depth in gameplay options, the insane detail of ship interiors, and the diverse lore and atmosphere surrounding various locations. These details also slow the game down in development, and your ability to play. There is a spectrum of beliefs on this matter, generally correlating with when backers joined the project, but the question will always remain. Is the detail worth it? Join me and Youtube Farrister to discuss!

Whether good or bad, there’s no denying a lot is happening in Star Citizen’s development and across CIG as a whole. This has made for some interesting discourse over the past few weeks. Star Citizen is known for not playing the best, and while it doesn’t all come down to hardware it can make a difference. Today I’m joined by the main voice on the topic as we consider the different reasons for poor performance in-game, how you can fix them, and what CIG is doing to improve this aspect of the game. PvP is a very common occurrence in Star Citizen if you want it to be. But what if you don't want to it to? And what about those NPC pirates, mercenaries, and hired kilometers that come looking for you? You'll need to fight back, and today I'd like to talk about whether Star Citizen is doing a good job of making that fight fun. Oh boy. We’ve had another major public move from CIG regarding Star Citizen, and as we’ve seen, the communication has been a failure. Star Citizen is funded by ship sales, and with over 100 ships in the game already, many believe they should be slowing down. With the recent introduction of 2 new very specific ships, the question sometimes comes up, “Does Star Citizen really need more ships?”. Today, The Astro Pub and Execute join me to discuss these new ships, the idea behind the massive amount of ship diversity this game continues to see, and whether this is something that will continue with Star Citizen. I hope you enjoy it.

Video games are a work of art, Star Citizen is an unorthodox video game. It has had unprecedented success in crowdfunding with $400 million raised, incredible growth worldwide with almost 1000 employees and millions of fans in several countries, and continues to draw in new players and host conventions around the world, all without releasing a game. Many question the validity of the project, but others are wondering if it can continue at this pace. In this episode, I speak with GriffinGamingRPG about the past, present, and future of Star Citizen, what sets it apart from the rest of the industry, and the hard truth about the project (it’s still a business).

Star Citizen is meant to be a game, but it is also a very powerful tool. The newly premiered “Adrift” limited series is an example of how vast the creative possibilities are with a tool like that. Keenan sits down with Taige, Roger, and Jack, the director, writer, and producer of “Adrift” to talk about the inspiration to pursue a limited series in a video game and the challenges of pursuing that goal. There may also be an easter egg or 2!
