After reading Seth godin's book The practice, I was inspired to start documenting my studying consistent work as an entrepreneur and as a music creative .
This series will document the challenges I face, that I hope others can use on their journeys.
You can prepare for resistance and you can lay out everything to have a successful day, but at the end of the day you need to make that final decision to face the work head on. today was one of those days where I faltered and it's a learning experience to make it better for next time.
The last few days I've been very existential and wallowing on the negative events going on in the world . It's valid to think those things, but I'm ready to bounce out of that and get back to the present moment.
Had a wonky morning again, not taking it personally looking at it as an opportunity to improve.
Today was another one of those days where I had trouble getting up and rather than look at it as a symptom of laziness or procrastination, I can look it up for really what it is that I didn't create a good enough process and my intentions tried to protect me.
Pretty normal day just wanted to document what I'm doing and how I'm sticking to the process
I think sometimes we will incorrectly prescribe ourselves as lazy or someone that procrastinates when actually there are deeper needs that need to be met. This is an open thought about how your urge to go on YouTube may actually link to your work being too complex.
Sometimes getting the thing we want can lead us to stray from the work we were meant to do. Today I received outcomes from my creative work, I was rewarded for following the practice, and that caused me to stray away from the work that was meant to be done. there's nothing wrong with celebrating successes, but they need to be followed by returning to the practice because that's where real changes made
Work anxiety, life anxiety, the biggest fears come from expected outcomes or worry that I won't get them. instead, it's better to reframe that focus on the process knowing that outcomes will come as a result of good work. Following the practice means obsessing over the work itself rather than the outcomes of the work.
when it comes to you doing creative work, the first few minutes usually the most important part of your entire session. They set the tone for the work you're going to do, and your headspace heading into the next hour or two. If you find yourself procrastinating, or struggling to find the motivation to work, you should accept it and look to care for yourself rather than forcing yourself through it period in this podcast I list some of the ways I've learned to set myself up for success in this first few minutes.
when you start implementing a new routine or a new set of habits it's very easy to get caught up in perfection, and start beating yourself up when things don't go exactly as planned. I'm working on doing the opposite being really easy on myself the first few weeks and knowing that things will go wrong and things will adjust, putting trust in myself that I will get to that point that I planned out in due time as long as I believe in the process.
There's a difference between feeling angry and identifying with anger, I'm learning to tell the difference. When you're able to not identify with your emotions, you can see them for what they are and take steps to care for them.
When we're obsessing over productivity the weekend is a very strange time, I'm trying to think about the best way to use that time in a way that sets good boundaries and also creates a practice of creative work.
