In our final book review of the year, we lose the ability to form coherent thoughts and it is all Hafsah Faizal's fault! In our review of We Free the Stars, we discuss incredible character dynamics, beautiful world building, quotes that really cut to our core, even Emberlin's cat Manny has things to say about this book-it tore him apart! Have you ever seen an episode of Peanuts? Yeah you, reading this, you ever see it? Ya know how when one of the characters is in distress, say, Charlie Brown just to name a guy, and he just kinda...throws his head back and yells but all you can see of his face is his big open mouth yelling? That's kinda how we feel about this book. Only that our distress is caused by the pain of not being able to fully articulate how much we love this book and not because some girl took a football away before we could kick it.
We've had a wonderful first year of podcasting and we couldn't thank you all enough for tuning in this year! We have SO MUCH in store for you in 2023. like, a lot. This week we're stepping back into the Remnant Chronicles universe with Mary E. Pearson's post-trilogy sequel, Vow of Thieves! As two people who still haven't read The Remnant Chronicles trilogy (it's on our TBR we swear) we thoroughly enjoyed this book! One of us even starts full on crying in this episode while talking about it. It's just a beautiful story, okay!!!! Also in this episode, we talk about the strong protagonists that are Kazi and Jase, the Ballenger family members that are on our shit list, Jase restoring our faith in male main characters, and the absolute best trope to ever exist in literature. Kaitlin gets so excited about this trope she knocks her mic over, and now that she's typing this description, she's wondering if maybe that's why it stopped working properly halfway through which then caused some additional editing...who's to say!

Every week we think 'there's no way they could top last week's episode!' and we keep getting proven wrong. You love to see it. In our review of What We Do in the Shadows, Episode 8, much like one of the characters in this episode, we commit to the bit of home renovation by bringing you the sweet sounds of construction in the background of Emberlin's recording. That's only because she's hired Toby and Bran to build her a walk-in dungeon for her interns. We continue to question if Marwa is okay, praise the brilliant direction of this episode, and ponder what may happen in the last two episodes. Needless to say, we're scared! :D

In our second week of Jane Austen August, we discuss the 1815 comedy Emma! In this episode we discuss our favorite modern adaptions of the novel, the iconic lines that still hit hard today, Kaitlin's totally unbiased opinions about Emma (2020) and being clueless about Clueless (1995), and how Emma Woodhouse is such a strong and uniquely written character. Huh?! Hello?! Did you see what we saw?! How is everyone doing in the wake of 'The Wedding' because not even food poisoning could stop Emberlin from yelling with Kaitlin about Season 4, Episode 6 of What We Do in the Shadows. In this episode, Nandor is so stressed about his wedding being perfect that his best.....man Guillermo is running on no sleep and redbull, everyone wants to sleep with the Baron, and the Djinn grants Nandor a wish that may be a surprise tool we’ll use for later. Honestly, we're still processing the events of this episode and what it all means for the future of the show and the character dynamics that it's reduced us to speaking in incoherent noises. We need to go watch 'Go Flip Yourself' to calm down a little.

What's this? An extra special BONUS EPISODE?!?! And it's not even about a book?? That's right, after hearing about the recent news of the HBO Max rom-com Our Flag Means Death FINALLY getting renewed on June 1st, we physically and mentally could not let this news go without unpacking all of our feelings about this wonderful show and recording it for a podcast episode instead of sending caps locked messages to each other in the wee hours of the night. This episode is unhinged, to sum it up in one word. We can't guarantee this is the most well thought out episode but we CAN guarantee its a fun time for anyone who also has Very Big Feelings about this show.
