On your journey of transformation, it makes sense to start with the end in mind. That's why we've captured the Five Marks from the pages of Scripture.

What is a disciple? The simple answer is that it's someone who is growing to become more and more like Jesus. Every Christ-follower is on a journey toward Christ-likeness. We are all being transformed to become more and more like him.

In the beginning, God created humanity in his image. We were made to steward his creation and be his image-bearers. But humanity turned their backs on God, which shattered this relationship. Sin entered the world and everything fell apart. As a result, the image of God in each of us has been distorted and broken.

But Jesus came to restore all things. Through his life, death, and resurrection he broke the power of sin, death, and the forces of evil. He is restoring all things and will one day fix everything. When we surrender our lives to him, he gives us new life. We are set free from the chains of brokenness and are given the power to once again be his image-bearers.

Followers of Jesus live like Jesus and love like Jesus. But what does that look like? At Crosspoint, we describe this with the FIVE MARKS OF A DISCIPLE. These are the biblical characteristics that portray a follower of Jesus.

A disciple with GROWTH lives a surrendered life, under Christ's leadership. Surrender includes glad obedience and dependence. When our lives are surrendered, it will lead to transformation through the Spirit's power. This is the most important characteristic because, without it, the other marks cannot flourish.

A disciple in COMMUNITY engages in intentional, deeper relationships with a small group of other disciples. This group shares transformational, loving, and transparent relationships as they seek to build each other up.

A disciple with PURSUIT seeks to know Christ personally above all things. They seek him through personal spiritual practices like Bible reading and prayer. They also seek him publicly through worship with the body of Christ.

A disciple with SERVICE has a posture of service to others. They give of their time, treasure, and talents to build up the church and to help others in need.

A disciple on MISSION joins with Jesus in his redemptive mission in the world. They courageously share the gospel, in both word and deed. This takes place in every part of their lives - where they live, work, and play.

Gift of the Father The Easter Season begins with Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Jesus and concludes with the Day of Pentecost, the visitation of the Holy Spirit. The resurrection of Jesus confirms the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross and the visitation of the Holy Spirit confirms that all the promises of God the Father are yes and amen in Jesus Christ. (II Corinthians 1:20) Luke 11:13 refers to the Holy Spirit as a gift of the Father that He willingly gives to us as an answer to our prayers. Jesus directed his disciples to “not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift of my Father…for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Following Resurrection Sunday, we will be considering “The Gift of the Father”, who He is, what He does, how He walks with us in life and what we need to do to fully engage with the Holy Spirit.

Based upon the Apostle Peter’s letter to the churches in four Roman Provinces in Asia Minor, or modern day Turkey.

These churches were made up of primarily Gentile or non Jewish believers who felt like foreigners because they had become followers of Jesus and members of the kingdom of God.

These last few years have been chaotic because of the polarization of politics, the impact of COVID in dividing family and friends and finally the economic upheaval coming out of COVID and the impact of inflation. As a result, The North American Church has questions about how we are to respond to this chaos.

Peter wrote this letter to these churches at a time when they were experiencing government sponsored persecution. His intention was to give them a heavenly perspective that would help them navigate their times. I believe that we, as the church need a heavenly perspective.

Peter’s heavenly perspective will speak to us today and enable us to rise about the chaos of our times and enable us to point our families, friends and neighbours to the hope that is found in knowing Jesus Christ.

I Peter 1:13 states: “Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.”

We are looking forward to discovering Peter’s views on how the people of God could keep perspective in a world that opposes them.

Each of us is on a spiritual journey. Each of us needs God's potent grace, every moment of every day. We like to say we're a community where it's "okay not to be okay" but that it's "not okay to stay there." We're all at different points in our spiritual journeys, but what's important is that we're moving in the right direction. So no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you've done, we invite you on this journey with us.

When did Christmas time get so complicated? Christmas can be a whirlwind of business, shopping, late nights and heartaches. If we're not careful, we'll wake up on New Years' day and wonder what happened to the holidays.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Welcome to Simply Christmas. This Advent Season at Crosspoint, we want to pause, peer thoughtfully into the year-end, and step intentionally into the Christmas season and a brave new year. So, simply put, what is Christmastime all about? So, let's push back the wish lists and mall noise and rediscover the holiday season anew. The rest is just Christmas gravy.

In the day when the judges ruled, Israel was unfaithful. The people did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. In those days, violence, division and disobedience reigned in the land. Even so, God's redemptive hand was at work in hidden places and with unlikely people.

The world of Ruth is very much like our own – lost and polarized. People clash over the body, beliefs, and pop culture. Even so, God weaves the scarlet thread of redemption through every history of God's people. He remains steadfast and true. In the book of Ruth, we learn about the character of God and how we can partner with him in his redemptive work in our world.

We discover that he is loving and kind, and He deals with us this way in every circumstance. God's loving-kindness can be found wherever his people seek him. Ruth is a story of this Redeeming Love at work.

Discipleship is not a pathway to bigger and better things. Instead, discipleship is the destination of all believers in Christ. We never outgrow it. So, where do we begin?

We believe that everything begins with Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Aside from him, we cannot know God in the life-giving, transforming, empowered and intimate way he did. So, we imitate him in every way.

At Crosspoint, this is an essential series. So we return to the same Five Marks of a disciple every fall. Growth, Pursuit, Community, Service and Mission.

This year, we will observe the lifestyle of Jesus. Why? When we adopt the Jesus lifestyle, two things begin to happen. First, we can trust that we’re being formed into his likeness, and second, we grow closer in relationship with God, our heavenly Father.

In each passage selection, we will observe how Jesus lived and uncover each trademark of those who follow his Way.

The book of Romans is revolutionary. In the history of Christian theology, it’s probably the most influential, quintessential New Testament book. It played a critical role in the conversions of Martin Luther and Johnathan Wesley. Luther led a reformation and Wesley sparked a revival. It also transformed famous players like Augustine and John Calvin. Many say that wherever there has been a revival in western civilization, people have been reading Romans.

J.I. Packer once wrote: “All roads in the Bible lead to Romans, and when the message of Romans gets into a person’s heart there is no telling what may happen.”

Our prayer for this series is that the message of Romans will get into your heart. And that we will never be the same again

Join us for this series as we launch our Solemn Assembly week of prayer. The book of Proverbs teaches us to guard our hearts for they are the well-spring of life (Proverbs 3:5-6). Standing guard is an active duty, not a passive one, so taking care of your heart requires vigilance and discipline. For the next three weeks, we will explore the spiritual practices of silence, rest, and waiting.

How is your heart doing lately?

Because of the pandemic, many of us struggle with anger, anxiety, and depression. Substance abuse is rising. The chronic crisis of Covid has undermined our previous coping strategies. It has also magnified many of the issues that were lurking beneath the surface of our lives.

Starting February 13, we will hit 'pause' on our Romans series for a special two-week series about mental health. The Bible says that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of love, power and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). How can we develop a sound mind in troubled times?

We look forward to hearing from two guest speakers during this series.

We long to be a community where we fully understand the good news about Jesus. Where we can trust God and others with the messiness of our lives. Where it's normal to remind each other of the gospel and live in it, with glad delight. Where our praise gets larger because the truth, that Jesus came to transform and restore our lives, grows bigger in our hearts. Where our fuel for life and mission flows from Christ's love for us. And where we consistently make spiritual U-turns away from what's killing us and toward the One who gives us life.

This Advent we welcome you to join us as we celebrate Jesus, the hero of Christmas. He is the main persona on which the plot of Christmas turns. But surrounding the incarnate Son of God is a diverse, supporting cast of characters, many of them average everyday people like us. Some were even outcasts, others narcissistic tyrants. And yet, God used them to accomplish his purpose and plan. What can we learn from their stories?
