Philippians 2:19-30
We’ve all seen it, that inspirational picture on the office wall of the lone mountain climber, reaching unimaginable heights on her own power alone. — We often imagine that this is what faith will make us into; godly individuals who no longer need anything but God. But this week in our study of Philippians we see the exact opposite. Faithful people called to such great heights by God that they could only succeed with other faithful people around them. Sound more like what we actually need? Join us Sunday and we’ll explore the topic together!

Romans 10:5-15
Most of us have friends who are religious and a few that aren’t. Of course, from a distance it can seem like they are all the same… a few prayers, a good deed or two. Our scripture this week says something very different. It says that Christianity is actually not a religion at all. In fact, it says that Christianity is almost like “un-religion.” Intrigued? Join us Sunday in person or online and we’ll talk about it!

1 Samuel 7: 5-12
David, son of Jesse, King of the Twelve Tribes of Israel will forever be remembered. He tended sheep. He fought giants. He betrayed his family. He forgave his enemies. He battled his son. He loved God. He wavered in faith. And he would somehow be forever known as the man after God’s own heart. Join us this fall at CPC as we study the Rise and Fall of King David. It all begins this Sunday with Pastor Paul talking about how can we discover a faith and passion for God that lasts.

Prayer changes things. Repeatedly in Scripture, we read how God hears the prayers of his people. Like the widow in the parable (Luke 18), we want to be persistent in praying for justice, boldness, and wisdom. We also pray for those who do not yet know Jesus, praying for the Lord to reveal himself in undeniable ways. May they have ears to hear and eyes to see the goodness and grace of our Lord.
The Missions Ministry invites you onto a 31-day prayer journey. The support for our missionaries includes prayer for them and for those they serve. To enable this commitment, we have a Prayer Calendar to guide our prayers. By using the Calendar, you will be able to pray for each of CPC’s missionaries and mission agencies. We hope the Calendar will launch your prayer time with focus and with the specific needs of our mission partners.
Thank you for praying! Your time on your knees for our brothers and sisters in Christ has eternal impact. May the Lord bless you as you serve in this way.

The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.James 5:16
O Lord, to whom no one is a stranger
and from whose help no one is ever distant,
look with compassion on those without a place to live;
restore them, we pray.
We thank You for being a God of grace and mercy.
Thank You for knowing each homeless person and family intimately.
Thank You for being their protection, shelter, hope and help.
Amen.

How often do we really stop and look within? For centuries, Christians have taken six and a half weeks before Easter to remember just how fragile and imperfect our lives are — called Lent. Many observe this period with a 40-day fast (Sundays are excluded), as an imitation of Jesus Christ’s fasting in the wilderness before he began his public ministry.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. CPC will host a night of worship February 22*nd* at 7:30 pm to remember and commemorate our need for reconciliation with Christ. Ash Wednesday service will be in-person only — no livestream will be available. Please join us for this reflective and very personal time together!

Weekend Food for Children. Every week we provide 90 bags of food for needy children at London Towne Elementary School. As the result of CPC’s food outreach, children return to school on Monday having had a weekend with better nutrition and better prepared to learn. We need to raise $4,000 to be able to complete the 2022-23 school year. Would you consider giving to help with this need? Give online (choose LTES Donations in the drop down menu) or write “LTES Weekend Food” on the memo of your check. Thank you!
The worship ministry is in need of a few iPads. If you have a 2016 or newer iPad you’re not using, would you consider donating it to us? You can drop them off at the church office or give them to Bryan Olden.

16.2 million children in America struggle with hunger.Food insecurity remains a problem for many children. Join us to help make a difference!
As families struggle with poverty, it’s extremely difficult to insure
that children receive adequate and healthy food.
Centreville Presbyterian Church (CPC) is reaching out to make a difference with our partner school London Towne Elementary School. LTES is a 1,000 student Kindergarten – 6th grade school in western Fairfax County (Virginia). As a Title I school, many of these students have special needs, including educational, emotional and financial.
CPC is coming alongside the school to help make a difference in the lives of the students, including mentoring, event volunteers, summer reading programs, and the Weekend Food Program. The Weekend Food Program feeds children whose families live below the poverty line and have limited resources. As the result of the Weekend Food Program, children return to school on Monday having had a weekend with better nutrition and better prepared to learn.
The weekly cost of the Weekend Food Program is approximately $450. We purchase food items in bulk and typically spend $5 per child. With your previous donations and resources from the Fresh Start Campaign, we have been able to continue this program. But now….
Our Weekend Food program is in need of funds to complete remainder of the 2022-23 school year.
Would you be able to help with the LTES Weekend Food Program? If you are able to donate, please give online (choose “LTES donation” in drop-down menu) or make checks payable to “CPC” and include “LTES Weekend Food” in the memo line. Thank you so much!
100% of all donations go toward the purchase of food for the children.

Jesus was famous for his thought provoking and challenging stories. This week we discuss the story of a man who could not forgive, even though his life had been saved by the forgiveness of another. Why is forgiveness so hard and why is it so powerful? We’ll talk about it this Sunday.
