Wayfarers Christian Church
Wayfarers Christian Church is based in Memphis, TN. We are a church for a post-Christian culture hoping to educate listeners about Christianity that is probably different than what you grew up hearing. On Thursday at 6pm CST we drop new episodes on different ideas from the Bible, hoping to provide healthy conversations about faith and what that means for our lives.
In this months sermon we are looking at Galatians 4:1-11. We are asking ourselves how do we grow up from simplistic ways of following God.
This is the first in our new sermon series looking at the book of Galatians. Today we're looking at a difficult verse in Galatians 3:10 that talk about the curses in the Bible.
This sermon begins our series leading up to Easter. We're in the Psalms for this series and we begin with a question that often comes up when talking about the Psalms. What do we do about the violence that is portrayed in the Psalms?
This the third part of our series casting the vision for what Wayfarers is about. In this part we cover what we need from you to make this dream a reality.

Jacob Dooley brings a wonderful message about the way of Jesus. He touches on some of the parts in John's gospel that are integral to our faith, and discusses how our church Wayfarers got its name and how that means so much to us as Christians.
Join us for our last sermon in the book of Isaiah. This chapter is a highlight chapter for many in the Christian faith. It has been used to display the brokenness that Christ endured and how important that is for our salvation. Today, Noah calls us to a deeper truth hidden in this passage that Peter expounds on in his first epistle. It's a sermon that cuts deep into the Christian responsibility to suffer well.
Ashley Wakefield, one of our teachers here at Wayfarers, speaks about her own personal history with trauma and how it can be overcome and defeated. She delivers her insights into what Jesus has done in her own life and how her own struggles are no longer a weight in her own life.
This episode Noah speaks on the state of Christian art and media. He delves into the division between the abstract and the concrete and how great that divide has been in Christian circles, resulting in Christian art feeling hollow. Real, human concreteness in our storytelling is what is needed. Check out this episode and we hope it inspires you in your own art.

This episode Noah breaks down what it is like to have the emotion of fear work on the brain. Most emotions we often think of coming from the heart. But fear doesn't normally operate that way. Fear is instead mostly centered in the brain. Noah walks through a helpful example of how it works and offers some helpful tips to lessen it's effects on our lives.

This episode features one of our regular attendees at Wayfarers Christian Church, Mikey Bennett. Mikey is a current student at Mid-South Christian College, has preached several times at Christview Christian Church, and is fun and loving personality that adds so much to our congregation at Wayfarers. His love of anime and other tv shows is a bright spot in his life that brings smiles to all of us as well as some wisdom from many of the things he notices in media. This is our Easter Sunday week! Wayfarers celebrated Easter with a powerful message from Nick Griffin that walked through how to evangelize to others and what is missing from so much of our evangelism classes when it comes to the gospel message. He focused on three aspects of the gospel, it's beauty, it's goodness, and it's beauty. You don't want to miss out on this episode.
We asked Joseph Jenkins, our music minister at Wayfarers, to teach this month's lesson. Joseph compiled many different Bible verses, some in Genesis 1, Exodus 3, Isaiah 6, 1 Peter 1, Acts 2 and a few beside, to walk through the idea of God being both holy and generous. It's a great survey with a lot of scripture readings so get out your Bible and listen closely to this message.
Today we dive into a lesser known passage from the book of Isaiah. Chapter 18 dives into the sociopolitical landscape during ancient Israel's time by looking at the area of Cush and how it was seen as a point of hope for the people of Israel who hoped to form an alliance with Cush. Nick breaks down what this passage meant to him and how it can matter even today, in our current walk with God.
Jacob Dooley is back to preach, and this time he's preaching from the book of Isaiah, continuing our sermon series throughout this rich book. Jacob speaks to the current trauma our city has endured and how the Israelite's received this precious prophecy of Immanuel during a time when their allegiance to God was at an all time low, and evil was rampant and cried out for justice to be served. It's a powerful sermon for helping us uncover the hidden joy of God's grace.
This Sunday service we invited Dr. Greg Waddell, a professor of Mid-South Christian College and one of our members at Wayfarers, to begin our new year in the book of Isaiah. Dr. Greg spoke on Isaiah 6 and the calling that Isaiah experienced and how that can matter to our lives today.
Back in November, we hosted a spiritual formation night with one of our members, Dante Baker, leading the event. It was super well received, so much so that we were able to get a recording of it put together for anyone that wants to listen. As this is part of our spiritual formation night at our church, we usually don't record these because they require so much participation from the audience and we feel its best to be in the room and get to participate physically with us as a church for these nights. Even so, we are overjoyed this one has become so popular and we hope that even if you can't participate in the action steps Dante lays out, you can get a taste of the beautiful heart that Dante has for God.

Join us this week for our third week in our Advent sermon series where Jacob Dooley re-contextualizes the concept of joy for us by diving into the 1st century history of the Jewish people and how eagerly and hopefully they waited for the coming Messiah. Jacob focuses on the story of Mary and her receiving the news of great joy that she would bear the Messiah.
This week Noah works through the second week of Advent discussing the importance of peace and how much of a struggle that has been in the church of late. He lays out the Jewish idea of Shalom (the Hebrew word translated as peace), and teaches from John 16 on how Jesus taught his followers to rely on peace in the middle of conflict and unrest.
This is a break from our regular weekly rhythms to focus specifically on the season of Advent. Each week we will be exploring a tension in the story of the Bible that is both resolved in Jesus the Messiah while also continuing till his second coming. Today Nick Griffin preaches on the subject of hope, which is the first of the four candles lit. Strap in! Advent is not for the faint of heart. But it might just give you some hope in these trying times.
This sermon Nick preaches on the topic of God as fire within the Old and New Testament. In some ways this is a part two to his last sermon where he talked about God being light. Feel free to listen to that one in the archives and then give this one a listen as well!
This is a sermon Noah preached at Wayfarers a week prior to this recording. That sermon unfortunately was not recorded (Noah's fault lol). Thankfully, Noah was given the opportunity to preach the sermon a second time at Oak Lane Christian Church and that was recorded. Noah preaches on a hallmark passage of the nineties and early two thousands, from the famous "jars of clay" passage in 2 Corinthians 4. Noah condenses a lot of his recent study on the subject of resurrection into this sermon and provides a lot of key information about the life of Paul the Apostle. It's a wonderful exploration of how resurrection doesn't just have to be a future event we await after death, but can be something transformative in our lives today. You don't want to miss this powerful point and we hope it brings you closer in your walk with Jesus.
Nick Griffin is back! He walks through several passages from the writer John in both John and 1 John. Then he shows how light and darkness is a theme for honesty and how Christians should be more open about themselves.
This Sermon Sunday we asked Dr. Greg to speak! Greg has been a member of Wayfarers for the past year and doubles as a professor at Mid-South Christian College. Today, he brings a message of reconciliation between the different age groups in our communities. He teaches from a passage in Malachi 4
In this final episode, Noah spends some time in Romans 11 as an explanation of the ending to Acts.
This week Noah explains the arrival Paul has in Rome and his fervent hope that his own people will believe the good news that has shaped so much of his own life.
In this final series in the book of Acts, Noah takes us through the ending portion of the voyage that Paul undergoes, having appealed to Caesar to avoid bringing a charge against his own people.
This week Ashley teaches about the concept of dealing with people who are difficult and how to best approach situations where we are stuck with those people. She talks about Paul's journey to Rome as one of those times and explains how he handles it in this episode.
This is the final in a two part series that William Dooley teaches. He spends a lot of this episode explaining how our fear of evangelizing is holding us back from a better relationship with God. He tells personal stories of how he's convinced it something that needs to be done more in the world.
This week William Dooley, a member of Wayfarers Christian Church teaches on Acts chapter 17 in this two part series. He explains a lot of the beginnings of the story that have Paul eventually arrive in Athens while also using personal stories from his own life to help us understand the heart of Paul better.
This week Ashley concludes her teaching on Acts 16 discussing the psychology of those forced into slavery and relating it to the freedom we have in Jesus. She then concludes by mapping these concepts onto the freedom Paul and Silas experience at the end of the Acts 16 after they are imprisoned.
Join us for this episode where Ashley Wakefield walks through the beginning of Acts 16 discussing the demonic possession of a woman held as a slave in the town of Philippi.
This sermon Noah teaches from Romans 8:1-6. Noah explains the powerful message of Paul in Romans 8 and how it can provide a challenge and blessing for us if we really pay attention to what Paul is saying in these verses.
In this episode Noah breaks down the four rules that all Gentiles were to follow set in paper by the council of Jerusalem.
In this episode Noah explains the differences between Amos and Acts in a quotation from the Old Testament found in the book of Acts.
In this episode Noah walks through a lot of different uses of the greek words for "standing" and "sitting" which get used by Luke to hint at something more profound under the surface of Acts 7 and 15.

This is a first part in a two part series Nick Griffin did on Acts 10. It's filled with thoughtful exposition of Acts 10 and some real life practical examples of Nick's journey through the food laws of the Old Testament.
This week on Bible Classroom we spend time looking at two stories in the book of acts. Phillip and the Ethiopian Eunuch and Simon the Sorcerer. Ashley takes these stories in light of how to be a good evangelist and teaches through them both pulling helpful tips and tricks along the way.
This week Noah teaches for the wayfarers crew as Nick is out sick this week. Noah teaches from Exodus 34:6 walking through how God is faithful in the story of the whole Bible.
This episode Noah finishes his teaching by walking through the day of Pentecost and the start of the first Christian church ratified by the Holy Spirit. This is an epic beginning to the story that Luke tells in Acts and there is so much to learn in this story that's worth the listen.
This episode Noah dives into chapter one of the book of Acts. He starts with Jesus and his crash course on the kingdom of God and the disciples hope that the kingdom of Israel would soon arrive. This episode is focused on how Christianity began as a Jewish faith and what that means for us today.

Nick teaches on a well quoted passage from this book today and expounds on some of the different perspectives interpreters have had with this verse. We hope it edifies you!
This week we continue our survey of the book of Ephesians. We cover chapters 3-4 in this lengthy episode but we promise that all of our speakers have some awesome thoughts about how to read these chapters. They cover everything from the name of God to apostleship and prophecy as gifts in the Bible. It's a wonderful episode and we are so blessed to have so many different perspectives to unite like Paul hoped.
Also a correction: Noah mentions a theme that the Bible project lays out about God concerning the attributes of God. He points to a passage in 1 Samuel for an example, however he grabbed from the wrong passage and used the wrong word for the theme!! Silly Noah.
The actual passage is found in Jeremiah 1 and the theme is not the voice of the Lord but the Word of the Lord. In that passage it says the Word of the Lord came to him and after saying several things to Jeremiah the word of the Lord also interacts with him materially. This Sunday evening Nick takes an hour to walk through scripture concerning church membership. He explains the different ways that churches handle membership, how church discipline has historically related to church membership, and how he hopes to guide Wayfarers through this process. It's well worth a listen to understand a little more about our church and philosophy. Hope you enjoy!
