Who would you be like to sit on a park bench with if you could choose anyone dead or alive? Jo went with the famous - Anthony Hopkins, Ghandi, Melissa McCarthy for various reasons.

Vicki chose her mum who died a number of years ago. She would love to talk to her about Op shopping, the garden, what the kids are doing and just hang out with her.

Was Ghandi crazy or brilliant? Are the Two Natural Ladies a bit crazy, and are they brilliant as well?

Talking of genius – Abraham Hicks has made a difference to Two natural Ladies. A lot of wisdom. An emotional guidance scale. We often try to take a leap from depression to happiness. We need to start with small steps. Find where we are on the scale and find thoughts to lift us up

22 emotions. At the bottom is Fear, Despair, grief, powerlessness if you’re there the only way is up. Anger is a step up from despair. A great way to put things into perspective. Reaching out and find a better feeling thought.

And remember where ever you are now just give it time and it will shift. We never have it all handled.

Feeling joy, feeling grateful and accepting what is

Two Natural Ladies start this podcast discussing the benefits of getting out of a funk by going for a walk, finding a better feeling thought. And when you are feeling good enjoy the joy - the ‘good place’. ‘This too shall pass’ can be a great message to keep in the forefront when you are having a bad day.

Vicki shares more wisdom? from her book ‘Older but not Wiser’ “I’m going to retire and live of my savings. Not sure what I’ll do on the second day.”

Gratitude and turning life around. Two Natural Ladies share a great quote and a great story. Little gifts of kindness can make such a difference. AND Abraham has a wealth of information around acceptance and allowing.

Jo & Vicki move on from age to youth. Would it be better if youth came a bit later? The passion of youth is so important and our experience as we age gives us the ability to see things in a more holistic light.

Two Natural Ladies finish with the pivotal age of seven age: The Steiner Philosophy goes in cycles of 7 years. The series “7 Up” explores Aristotles quote: “Give me a child to the age of 7 and I’ll give you the man” following a group of children every seven years. Jo & Vicki chat about what is achieved in this series and also the impact on some of the participants.

A quick mention of Zack Efron talking about Blue Zones gives this wonderful upbeat podcast an “attractive” ending. By the way, we remembered the name of the Documentary is called “Down to Earth”

A fun little snippet from the Two Natural Ladies

What particular things about our mums (or dads) drive us crazy? Jo shares a few of hers before Vicki reads out something from the book “Older but not wiser” How crazy do we get when we are told “you’re getting just like your mother!” And finding ways to communicate some of our frustrations without being grumpy.

“If I’d known I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself!”

“At my age I can say exactly what I like” Listen to this delightful little snippet for more.

A quick discussion on energy efficiency – how to save our energy. The hot water on the back with the doona and what a difference this makes. Using a rug, an Oodie a hot water bottle.

Then Jo & Vicki go back to a discussion about electricity – sharing facts from Natalie Issacs book. “Every woman’s guide to the planet” The average household has 60-70 gadgets plus light bulbs. How many can we turn off when not in use and how many can we do without.

Ditch the dryer – 12% of use in a household. Half a ton of carbon dioxide per year! AND if one million of us made our shower 4 mins or less it would be the same as planting 900,000 trees.

What’s the best way to turn off our gadgets! if one million women took on #Letsdoit321, picking up three bits of rubbish, what a difference that would make!

‘They had fear in their eyes’: how to handle motherhood rage - The Age newspaper article.

https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life-and-relationships/they-had-fear-in-their-eyes-how-to-handle-motherhood-rage-20210602-p57xg3.html

Before getting onto the more serious topic of motherhood rage, Jo has a present for Vicki – a photo album of themselves and the people they have interviewed. Our photo’s stay on our phone and never get seen.

Two Natural Ladies then discuss this line -‘they had fear in their eyes’ around the rage parents can have with their children’ Something Vicki regrets – like most mums, particularly in our culture. “It was either me or them” in those moments when we get caught up in whatever has happened. Afterwards we regret, apologise and ‘hug it out’. But sometimes we have been at the effect of such rage and not had the apology.

The isolation that Mum’s feel. And we don’t have the same ‘village support’. Two Natural Ladies share what worked when their kids were young and what didn’t. Running a business from home with four kids. We are left on our own too.

Jo questions “Parental burnout’ – do people need to work as hard as they do? For some people they could work less? Quantity does not cancel out quality. This is not about being against mums working but for some, who could be OK without working crazy hours and be with their children more.

We are “Victims of our own culture’. How can women working full time do it? Not a judgement an admiration. And we need to be something other than a mother sometimes. “I don’t want to lose me”

It’s like a see-saw. We can only have a balance for a short time. When our children are little there is so much going on, finances, being the best mum, creating a legacy or our children’s future.

This is a great podcast for all Mums whether you are a ‘stay at home mum’ work part-time or full time.

We are fluid just like the ocean. But is a door always a door?

Two Natural ladies discuss the need for some certainties – nature for one! While Jo was packing boxes, Vicki was chilling out on the top of Mt Baw Baw. Editing shows. Walks up to the summit.

Feeling abundant and thankful. Connection and Community. In downtown Parkdale, Jo was trying to get her sun rays and Vitamin D (a bit like a solar panel) and then she shares she is perplexed! Having a plan and getting things done and then things happen. Kids pop in, boxes to be sorted. Things shift and change as people walk in and out of our lives.

The enquiry: How to enjoy the moment and not get caught up in the ‘Must do’ Find something to be Thankful for: – how lucky are we to have the flexibility to be able to hang out with our kids!

What do I do? How do I declutter? Mushrooms? Is that a solution? And what about our Oceans? A spotlight on some of humanities modern issues.

Two Natural Ladies enquire into making decisions and decision fatigue. Someone thinks like Vicki? Decluttering seems too hard and going through it means so many decisions. Jo suggests decluttering could be an adventure in discovering treasures from years ago.

We can reduce what we have and discover what we can reuse. This leads into an unexpected Segway topic - Plastic eating Mushrooms – solving humanities plastic problem – which is definitely a clutter problem as well as an eco-disaster! Jo & Vicki give some stats and then chat about the clutter in the ocean.

Mass production of plastic began in the 1950’s. Here are some stats:

· 9 billion tons of plastic has been produced

· Plastic takes more than 400 years to degrade.

· Only 9 percent is recycled and

· Only 12 percent has been incinerated

Plastic pollution is not the biggest problem. Fishing nets are almost 50% of the pollution in our water ways.

93% of our CO2 is stored in our Oceans. It’s time to put the spotlight on the Ocean and keep it there until we clean it up! And we can bypass the fish and eat the algae that give us the fatty acids. AND Damon Gameau is warning against the salmon farms that are having a toxic impact on the pristine waterways in Tasmania and affecting the resident's way of life.

We do have the solutions to regenerate our system! One of these solutions is 4 Oceans who are cleaning the oceans one pound at a time. Two Natural Ladies are in complete agreement with the 4Oceans comments: ‘Small acts add up, which means every piece of single-use plastic you refuse, every habit you change, and every pound you pull makes a difference.’ #Letsdoit321

Two Natural Ladies share and discuss the advantages of the Doughnut economy. Jo & Vicki first became aware of this through Damon Gameau’s film 2040. Since then they have continued to research the benefits for everyone and everything on our Earth

“The Doughnut offers a vision of what it means for humanity to thrive in the 21st century - and Doughnut Economics explores the mindset and ways of thinking needed to get us there.

Kate Raworth and her book Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist, explores the economic thinking needed to bring humanity into the Doughnut, drawing together insights from diverse economic perspectives in a way that everyone can understand. The book soon became an international bestseller and has now been translated into over 20 languages.

Think of it as a compass for human prosperity in the 21st century, with the aim of meeting the needs of all people within the means of the living planet.”

There is always a way and through collaboration we can find the way. Collectively we have the answer.

“Sometimes those that try to bring you down don’t realise you are part of the reason they are still standing” Anna Idibia. We are not present to how reliant and interconnected we are.

And Two Natural Ladies are here holding the space and letting people know there is an answer - showing us all what’s possible.

JO starts the conversation with some information from Brene Brown talking about Vulnerability and Connection

We don’t want to feel vulnerable yet it is a great connector. In order to connect we have to be seen, really seen - be vulnerable

Brene Brown collated 6 years of data with people’s stories and journals regarding shame. Those who have a sense of worthiness have a strong sense of belonging because they believe they are worthy. That belief is the only difference between those who do have a strong sense of love & belonging and those that don’t

What did those people who felt worthy have in common?

· Courage: were willing to share their story and be imperfect

· Compassion with self and others

· Authenticity leading to connection

· Vulnerability- the Birthplace of joy and creativity

Two Natural Ladies love peoples stories – there is a realism about it and it enables us to feel closer to people than being told what to do. Being willing to share can open up our worlds. There are extraordinary results. Unexpected things happen.

Jo & Vicki share their stories from ‘Landmark Forum’ days and how being vulnerable actually had them come closer to the people in the room. Even though they felt uncomfortable and even stupid that’s not how others saw them.

‘We numb vulnerability through eating, drinking and taking drugs - we are a society of addicts

When you numb one part- being vulnerable -it numbs the other parts of joy, love and laughter

Vicki shares some words from the book Vive by Debra Pascoe: Mental Stamina, physical stamina. Unstoppable days. Doing the smallest things on the days of struggle can make such a difference.

Fighting with ourselves in getting out of bed: Going for a walk can shift the energy. – taking those steps forward. Allow ourselves to have time to rest and recuperate. Do I need to have some time off? Or are we listening to the negative conversation?

Knowing our happiness triggers: a hug, clean sheets, fragrances, acts of kindness, dancing, walking

This is a wonderful podcast with great conversations for everyone. 😁

“Fitness isn’t a punishment; it’s a blessing. Nutrition isn’t restrictive; it’s healing. Health isn’t a one- size- fits- all thing and may not look the same for everyone, but it’s something worth fighting for” ~ Unknown

The main thing is to move your body! Two Natural Ladies discuss the many ways we can get our exercise:

Yoga, walking, gym, incidental; gardening – the list is endless

Jo reads a beautiful poem by Hollie Holden – accepting who we are 💜

"Today I asked my body what she needed,

Which is a big deal

Considering my journey of

Not Really Asking That Much.

I thought she might need more water.

Or protein.

Or greens.

Or yoga.

Or supplements.

Or movement.

But as I stood in the shower

Reflecting on her stretch marks,

Her roundness where I would like flatness,

Her softness where I would like firmness,

All those conditioned wishes

That form a bundle of

Never-Quite-Right-Ness,

She whispered very gently:

Could you just love me like this?"

Comparing ourselves with others. Join in with others.

Blue Zones: it’s all about community. The people who live the longest are connected. All ages being together. THIS IS WHAT WORKS! The story of the elderly gentlemen and his garden: his joy for his garden and then sharing the food with his community

Our struggles and preconceived ideas that everyone over there is having a great time while we are suffering. This is particularly true during our teenage years and all of us deal with some form of conversation where others are doing better than us

Outward expressions can be different, some perform while others withdrew.

Two Natural Ladies discuss what they did on the weekend-

Vicki’s jaunt to Ripponlea and her on air discussion on Southern FM 88.3 with some of the other radio personalities. They talked gardening, cooking and the things Vicki doesn’t do 😂 Vicki did some bird watching & Gin tasting – not expected but there it was. A discussion ensued on the experience of listening for the birds and watching their antics

Sacred Space with our grandchildren. Going away: Jo shared her weekend away with her grandson Jacob. Phillip Island and Dromana. Their special walk on the beach arm in arm. The shared experience of walking the beach and ‘feeling’ the ocean. Meditative and relaxing. Giving them both a feeling of joy.

Moving past a problem– a problem shared is a problem halved

BAD NEWS: Jo shares her annoyance about major issues in the world being given a 5 second time slot between the weather and the cricket scores.

Vicki discusses the documentary “Seaspiracy”. The issue of the fishing industry. Dragging huge nets on the seabeds destroying everything in its path. The issues in the ocean are so much bigger thank on land partly because we don’t see so we are less aware of what is going on. What is the answer? Stop eating fish?

Two Natural Ladies recommend everyone watch the show: knowledge is power

Two Natural Ladies start with a celebration of Dolphin Day 🐬🐬

Jo shares her journey watching of the TV show, ‘Old People’s home for 4 year olds’. The amazing results being seen in just two weeks. The noticeable difference with most of the elderly and the four year olds.

The show is looking at Intergenerational support and helping the elderly stay young for longer and the young to create caring and empathy  As we see in small communities, village life, all ages mix. A true community.

In the show the elderly people are being physically and mentally pushed AND having fun. The connections being made between the two age groups is quite extraordinary. 💜

Vicki and Jo then discuss segregating our children from an early age. Putting kids in a grade with just one age group. Is this normal? Natural? Children in multi age group settings learn leadership and many other skills

As a young mum we can feel isolated and a heavy burden of responsibility .With a more integrated community there is support and everyone is involved – it’s what works!

Trying to get a school to create a program can be difficult -When it’s unusual it’s hard to implement, when it’s normal its normal!

This leads to a discussion about older people becoming more regimented with time AND Jo shares her parents groovy past with parties every weekend

The extraordinary in the ordinary

Two Natural Ladies have a lively discussion around creation, judgement and healing. They start by talking about The Lotus League and the unique offering they are giving to women

  • Finding our place in the world.
  • Make a difference, help others and eat!
  • We all have diamonds in our back yard. AND we all need to give ourselves time to retrain our brain. It takes 10-12 exposures before people get what it is we are doing.
  • Steeping ourselves into the unknown. Like when we learnt to walk. We didn’t stop because we weren’t sure what the outcome was.

While we are creating relationships we can be creating the business of our dreams in the conversations. We can just be us. We don’t have to be polished speakers and even if we may occur as ordinary, we are extraordinary.

Sometimes we feel misunderstood and misinterpreted and harshly judged and then we can question ourselves. And yet we know who we are if we allow ourselves to be who we are and be in our power miracles occur.

This leads onto to Jo & Vicki sharing Lynne McTaggart’s latest discoveries:

“I’ve been studying the power of thoughts for nearly 20 years, and I’ve discovered one unsettling truth: your thoughts are not locked inside your head but are being broadcasted 24/7 – and have a powerful effect on others, particularly those who are battling medical conditions.”

Lynne talks about our judgments doubts and how every statement we make can affect the healing ability of our friends and family and for those who are professional counsellors, our clients. “As scientific evidence has shown, just one disagreement can delay wound healing by an entire 24 hours. So imagine the effect of just one ill-timed thought by you, particularly as a dearly trusted therapist.

But there’s a flip side here.

Imagine the effect of sending out positive and loving intentions in addition to giving your patients medicine or treatment.”

Carpe Diem: Seize the day “There is only one day left, always starting over: it is given to us at dawn and taken away from us at dusk”. Jean-Paul Sartre

Jo reads a dolphin poem written by Adrian Wood. This is followed by a discussion on embracing the day.

Two Natural Ladies share some information from the book “Carpe Diem Regained: The Vanishing Art of Seizing the Day” by Roman Krznaric.

Krznaric discusses how death is no longer talked about. We put our elderly people away and concentrate on the young. This gives us a false sense of ‘living forever’ and can stop us from living each day to the full.

Two Natural Ladies has a discussion about seeing each day as new and embracing it. And also the pressure we can put on ourselves when trying to ‘seize the day’.

Finishing off with a bit of banter - Two Natural Ladies style 😁

Two Natural Ladies introduce a special guest, Vicki’s husband Shane, sharing his encounter with the dolphins in Port Phillip Bay, whilst on his paddle board. Amazing! 🐬

The dolphins gave Shane a wonderful show. Which lead onto Jo talking about her many encounters with dolphins in the late 80’s early 90’s. The joy and sense of wellbeing these beautiful creatures create for us – it’s magic!

Shane shared the Dolphin Research Institute’s (DRI) request for recording any sightings on the DRI website. If possible photos, time and place.

The life of the dolphin and the life of the bay was of particular interest to Shane when he visited the DRI. He shared that the prime source of ‘tucker’ for dolphins is octopus! Shane also discussed the different species of octopus we have in Port Phillip Bay and the amazing videos they were shown during their excursion. 🐙

It is a Diving Mecca in Port Phillip Bay – Melbourne’s amazing sea life is the best kept secret. Shhh

A fun and entertaining podcast which will leave you feeling uplifted 💜

DOLPHIN 🦈: Pushing through green waters, Symbol of Joy, You leap from the depths, To touch the sky…. ~ Horace Dobbs 1982

Jo shares her adventures with Dolphins for the past 34 years and her research on Horace Dobbs.

Vicki, Shane and their adventures with their four kids at the Dolphin Research Institute (DRI). Was their arm twisting to go? Well the outcome was some amazing info from Jeff Weir the founder. Boy does he know his stuff!

DRI are heavily focused on community groups, particularly school programs, where they are empowering the school ambassadors by educating and thrilling them with dolphin adventures. The young ambassadors then take their new information back to their schools and share.

Help DRI: when you sight a dolphin, take a photo if you can, or if on a paddle board, swimming etc, share the information on their website once on dry land.

Keep your Purpose and Passion at the fore: Don’t let the Nay Sayers take you off course

Two Natural Ladies share a great paradigm from Lauren & Annette’s Weekly Rocket

‘In 1889, the "iron lady" was opened to the world. She was the tallest structure in the world for over 40 years and not everyone loved her.

Of course, we are talking about Eiffel Tower in Paris and many artists and poets slated it as 'useless, barbaric and monstrous", saying it was a hateful column of bolted sheet metal that would dominate Paris like a gigantic black smokestack".

The Eiffel Tower has gone on to be one of the most recognised structures in the world, an icon of France and the most-visited paid monument, with over 250 million visitors since it was opened.

This just goes to prove, that if you build something iconic, do not worry if not everyone loves it. You are going to have haters. It's more important that you have a vision for your brand, a purpose and passion, and that you create something monumental, that is easily recognised.’ From Lauren and Annette Weekly Rocket.

Jo & Vicki share some of their insights from their discovery sessions with their coach, Geoff Kelly. He doesn’t tell them what to do. He says lovingly: “You have so many diamonds in our backyard – you need to discover them.”

And listening to those who are negative can cause stress. Even though we know most people are wanting to be helpful it is not always useful

Two Natural Ladies share Stephanie Rother’s blog “The secret life of stress”

  • Pain and how it affects us
  • Not getting enough sleep and worrying about waking up early the next day
  • Gut issues
  • Irregular menstrual cycles
  • Driving
  • Intense meetings
  • Irritability

What comes first the chicken or the egg?

What can we do?

  • Acknowledge the stress
  • Move the body
  • Time in Nature
  • Breathing / Mindfulness / Meditation
  • Eat regularly
  • Supplements
  • Get a relaxation tool box

“Being part of a like-minded community helps to make the task at hand more achievable, while also improving mental health through connection and participation.” Two Natural Ladies

Two Natural Ladies could create a cabinet very quickly – they are ready to take on Prime Minister. Starting with daily press conferences telling people everything is OK, sharing quotes and sharing the love and of course asking everyone to pick up three pieces of rubbish #Letsdoit321

Vicki and Jo ask: How do we get people to act? When there was disruption to city traffic by an environmental group the women running it, a psychologist in her 50’s said this was the only way their organisation could be heard. How do we get the awareness, the understanding to be heard by people?

During disasters we all show up. We are there asking: How can we help?

We do want to make a difference and Two Natural Ladies are experts in this area and we promote others who are also looking at ways to help.

Small steps are easy, become part of a likeminded community.

Beach Patrol – a five year study showed nothing has changed. In fact there is more plastic than ever. So let’s pick up those three pieces of rubbish. Jo’s struggle with herself when going for a walk.

Good Edi 1 billion coffee cups thrown out per year – let’s use edible cups!

The Impact of

Looking at seed to source. Connecting the dots. If we are using something harsh on the environment is it harsh for us?

We often have questions but not the answers. Which leads to Jo & Vicki having a discussion about organisations helping their employees and finding productivity and profits increase! A four day week works better than five!

Ecosia: every 45 searches enables a tree to be planted – How? We don’t know!

Sustainable clothing: Nina Gbor talks about waste, Fast Fashion and ways we can combat the 23 kilos of textiles each of us put into landfill each year!

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” ~ Helen Keller.

Two Natural Ladies start with a discussion about what they did on the weekend and finished with how to decrease your Eco anxiety What did the TNL do on the weekend:

  • Hanging out in the local community

  • Picking up rubbish: Jo with her grandson; Vicki with her hubby.

A quick discussion about weather and how to catch rubbish as it flies past then onto the rituals we create. Jo shares her daily “I experience” and then the constant rubbish that goes on in our heads.

“Everyone has it handled better than us” Realising that we are all human and all have stuff going on. And that we need each other – are we all energy? We are not in competition we are all part of the same Universe.

Vicki talks about gossip and how we can see people as infallible yet they are vulnerable as us. Jo suggests Two Natural Ladies become Prime Minister starting with their first edict: “Joy and compassion” everywhere.

And for the Two Nautral Ladies to achieve this dream of being Prime Minister they will need a TEAM

T.E.A.M: (Together Everyone Achieves More)

Using each other’s strengths Making a difference on all levels and taking time to ‘BE’ – the balance between ‘doing’ and ‘being’ and it goes out of balance so quickly.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.’ ~Margaret Mead Eco anxiety:

Do we feel this because we aren’t doing anything?

Take a first step: Natalie Isaacs’s story about starting her Eco journey by cutting her energy bills. There are so many different ways we can help.

Damon Gameau’s 2040 film – watch it and take the first step #Letsdoit321 –start picking up three pieces of rubbish and ask others to do the same.

What makes the difference? A UK grandma, in her 70’s took a year to clean up 52 beaches – but this is not possible for all of us – just start doing something. 💜

Two Natural Ladies discuss part of their yet to be released book:

· “We are powerful and strong – it’s really just getting out of the way of ourselves constantly so I keep thinking the jobs done when I’ve got out of the way of myself but there I am in the way again.” ~ Two Natural Ladies

· We know not to eat junk food but how often do we think junk thoughts?

· And how like Homer are we? Getting distracted by shiny objects? Vicki and Jo share their creative abilities – together. And the difference it makes being two – together making the perfect person (Laugh)

· We know bad stuff happens 10% is what happens to us and 90% is how we react to it. Not dwelling in the bad stuff. “Battling with myself to get out of my own way – I’d rather just stay home I say to myself. Yet once I get out I love it!”

· We have to get out into life – it doesn’t normally knock on the door – though …Hugh Jackman, Jo would love it if you would (knock on her door)

A poem from our resident poet: and experience of Covid

Two Natural Ladies finish with some good news about dolphins.

Two Natural Ladies start with the 101 really disgusting things according to author Andy Griffiths. Jo feels very vindicated as Number 1 is Brussel Sprouts.

Quickly Vicki and Jo move onto Random Acts of Kindness and finding passion in your life.

‘You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziggler.

We don’t have to be a visionary, we can find someone who we connect with, who sparks our interest and take on their vision. ‘If we feel passionately towards it, it gives our life purpose’. ~ Simon Sinnek.

How do the Two Natural Ladies get inspired? Look for inspiring quotes or listen to some upbeat music and…pick up rubbish. #Letsdoit321. Jo shared her adventure of picking up rubbish with her grandson and Vicki did the same with Jeanette Peterson on their two hour walk.

Everyone was left feeling good – our endorphins were released! Then the opposite can happen – a traffic story with tooting! Left feeling upset. The visible made visible…if we had sensors on our head we could see the colours as we go from feeling happy to feeling sad.

What Random Acts of Kindness did you do this week? Donating Lego to The Sixth Child – Jo didn’t want to give away her ‘generational Lego’ so she went online and bought some kits!

When we are feeling great we are more likely to do something nice. Being available for your family. What’s important to you? 5 things you value and do you give time to them? An entertaining look at some important topics.

Jo & Vicki start their discussion with Lynne McTaggat’s research.

“In the field of quantum physics, the most recent research has shown that the universe is the result of a dynamic process in which the basic elements that constitute everything we see and touch are in a constant state of exchange.” Lynne McTaggart.

What would we be capable of if we lived that we are a ‘single organism of interconnected energy fields?’ It is difficult as our culture does not support us being one – rather we are in competition with each other.

‘Collaboration and connection’ Two Natural Ladies discuss the benefits of the communities who do this. Examples in the Longevity film show those that work together live longer and healthier.

Jo shares the story of her mother in law returning to her village in Lebanon and being ‘called’ to participate – she was the happiest she has been for a long time

We stumble into looking after each other and are surprised with how it makes us feel.

Vicki declares it is time for a paradigm shift! Let’s make this the norm.

“The key to changing that perception lies in shifting our focus and our awareness to the proof that is all around us of just how tied together we truly are” Lynne McTaggart.

Two Natural Ladies then delve into the world of water fasting and healthy eating. As Vicki was discovering Dr Alan Goldhammer who founded True North in America, Jo discovered Dr John Fielding who founded The Clohesy River health farm out of Cairns in Australia.

Dr Hammer talks about people going vegan who don’t go vegan healthy! Overweight; High blood Pressure; Cardiovascular disease; Cancer; Arthritis are all side effects of the standard American diet.

Jo & Vicki continue their discussion on supervised water fasting and teaching people to eat healthier. Educating us all on food and how we can process it “Processing is anything you do to the food to alter its natural state. You can cut it into smaller pieces to make it easier to eat. You can cook it, which softens it and makes the nutrients more available. You can grind it up to avoid having to chew, as in blended salads. These are fairly minimal forms of processing, and thus do not change the nature of the food too much.” Dr Goldhammer.

A deep dive into health and wellbeing.

Jo & Vicki enquire – ‘Is it a fruit or is it a vegetable’?

It is a fruit the masses say but we eat it them like a vegetable

Some people hate them AND some people have a fear of them!

Two Natural Ladies share their Groupies ideas on how to use a tomato: It is a multi-purpose fruit: roast them, fry them, in soups, the main ingredient of bruschetta, in salads and eat whole for lunch!

A poem is read from Vicki & Jo’s resident poet – Adrian.

A fun little snippet with some insights into this fruit.

Jo and Vicki continue their discussion from Episode 98

Dreams don’t minimise your dreams. When we get a no, or we get advice and follow their advice and change what we were doing we can lose our way.

Questioning what we are doing and what difference we are making. If you know you are on the right path – don’t get swayed. And when you are doing something new people will knock it.

Having that AHHH moment confirming we are on the right track. Humans don’t like

Forgiveness: when we have been deeply hurt we want to hold onto that ‘you’re wrong’ righteous feeling. And yet when we forgive there is a freedom for us as well as the person we are forgiving

JOY: the essence of why we live – to feel and give joy!

Two Natural Ladies talk about Lisa Avellan fromSimple and Soul’s blog on:

What you don’t want to minimalise: (thanks you to Joshua from Becoming Minimalist for sharing this)

1. OUR relationships

Two Natural Ladies can be work-a-holics and are aware of the danger of working seven days a week! Vicki and JO love having time with the family. They need to have time to hang out and generally make sure they get to hang out with the kids.

And what better way to be more time efficient and create more moments with friends and family – have effective To do lists!

Dianna Daou, from True Coaching recently quoted that most people only do 51% of their to-do lists while really successful people do over 90% - how do we get that!

One thing Dianna discusses is the need to make your to-do list verbs! Our brains find this easy to connect with. A short but sweet episode.

  1. Living with less should never mean less community – building our relationships in communities

Vicki & Jo discuss connecting with people, connecting with our local neighbourhoods and learning how to communicate with the different people in the different mediums – how to you connect with our kids.

We now have so many different communities in different mediums such as Whatsapp communities, Messenger communities and Zoom communities to name a few. These online communities allow those of us who aren’t close in proximity to have a relationship and as we know this is so important to our mental health and living a full and happy life

2. Gratitude. ‘Believing what you have is enough’

We are wired to strive. And when we finish one thing we want to move onto the next.

We are enough just as we are right now and it’s important for us to bask in the glory of what we have accomplished

  1. Empathy for others and what their challenges may be difficult at times. Two Natural Ladies discuss the difference between people choosing to live in a caravan and go Grey Nomads and choose what you have to do – give you power when you choose what is. Acknowledge where you are first and then go forth

  2. Generosity if we don’t have a lot sometimes we can find it difficult to give. Fill your cup and then have it overflow and give so everyone does well.

· Letting people in when driving

· Helps our endorphins to POP

5. Education: Unforeseen benefitsin all education. To minimise our education is to minimise our potential to change the world. For any educational investment, we gain, at the very least, a deepened capacity to think and to relate to the world bustling around us’

Even if you ‘know’ everything in a course there will be something you can get from your time. If you have to do it go in with …‘I’m going to get the most out of it!”

Two Natural Ladies have a chat about the importance of recycling and the exciting new innovation from the Victorian Government with the creation of ‘CEBIC’

Circular Economy Business Innovation Centre

‘You spoke, we listened and now here we are. Welcome to the Circular Economy Business Innovation Centre, also known as CEBIC (pronounced 'see-bik').’

“Going circular can generate significant benefits for all business types and sizes, from creating jobs to providing opportunities for growth. But, going circular is also about our environment – reducing waste generation, making more from less, increasing re-use and repair, and ultimately reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Opportunities for reducing waste generation are particularly prevalent in material-intensive sectors such as construction, manufacturing, food, and fibre.”

We all need to be looking at what we can repair not throw out

This follows on to a discussion around Nina Gbor, how amazing she always look in her recycled clothes and what she is up to now! Jo shares Nina’s LinkedIn Post “Dumping rubbish at charity shops is out of control”

Decluttering, taking to the op shop and then the Op shops putting into landfill. Only a small percentage of what we take to the Op shop is sold – the rest is thrown out!

Vicki talks about her recent visit to some óld clothes’ in a wardrobe not used. Now they are new clothes again! An Op shopped at home J

Also discussed:

· Reuse before taking it away and going elsewhere to find something else.

· Fast fashion, Fast food Fast everything!

· Planned obsolescence: Don’t expect anything to last

· Products designed for short term use

Two Natural Ladies have an awesome discussion with Elizabeth French on her journey through health and natural hygiene.

The Natural Society started in 1960 and Elizabeth and her husband Roger, joined in 1973. After becoming interested in natural childbirth, Elizabeth expanded her interest into what they were eating and for the past 38 years she has been eating a natural food diet consisting mainly of raw foods.

Vicki became very excited when Elizabeth spoke about her idol, Dr Alan Goldhammer, sharing the benefits of fasting for healing the body.

We hear an amazing story of a gentlemen who fasted for two weeks after being diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver (and he wasn’t a drinker!) – He had been given less than three months to live!

Exercise, rest and taking time away from artificial lights and screens are also part of our road to wellness. Deep breathing, particularly through Yoga and drinking pure water will also make a difference. Jo shared her journey into the world of water filters, eliminating the chlorine and fluoride that has been added to our water. Fresh Air and Sunshine and a good dose of Vitamin D can also make a huge difference to our mental strength.

And one of the Two Natural Ladies favourites: Positive thinking! Look on the bright side. It is so easy to get depressed looking at the world and seeing all that is ‘wrong’ we need to see what we can do to make a difference. “I can’t make a difference to the whole world and I can do something in my world” As we feel good we affect others to feel good.

For more information contact the Natural Health Society www.health.org.au

This is a fabulous uplifting discussion we highly recommend!

Vicki is star struck by Dr Goldhammer and his passion for water fasting

This leads to a chat about …

Oranges: Winter is when they come into their own. From freshly squeezed oranges to roasted with veggies. Two Natural Ladies have a great discussion about this voluptuous fruit. Jo gives the facts and history of how oranges got to us in Australia, while Vicki shares Two Natural Ladies Groupies Facebook posts on this topic, including a fabulous poem about the orange.

Jo confesses she is a good dances and Vicki talks about the importance of Bees: plant plants in your garden that bees love, We can’t do it all and as Woolworths has shared, without bees we will find fruits and vegetables including avocado, apples, cucumbers, pumpkins, rockmelons, blueberries, zucchini, macadamias, kiwi fruit would become scarce.

Some 65 per cent of Australian horticultural and agricultural crops require honey bees in order to pollinate, amounting to more than $14 billion of food each year.

Let’s give Bees a chance – find one way you can help!

Jo & grandson Jacob had plans to clean up Australia but Jacob hurt himself so it will happen soon ☺ Vicki discovers people coming out of the bushes – what were they doing? They were cleaning up -in the bushes. Vicki cleans up other people’s dog poo as she is a responsible dog owner! And then dogs are discussed and where they poo.

Nomadland film 3rd highest rated film. A fabulous film about people.

Two Natural Ladies discuss Lynne McTaggat’s latest blog talking about quantum physics.

‘We are all part of the Cosmic Soup constantly being stirred!’ everything is in a constant state of exchange and we are all part of the same basic elements and we are all tied together! Is Jo a string bean?

We have all felt connected at some time in our life. Where did the conversation that we are separate come from?

Vicki & Jo finish this podcast with a quick discussion about Elizabeth Scharpf who is creating sanitary pads made from banana fibre in an effort to prevent waste in Africa. @environmentaltalk

If you want love give love, if you want friends be friendly if you want money – give money? No give value ☺

Stop trying to be everything to everyone – be everything to one person. Want to be everybody’s friend. Try and please everyone. Feeling bad when we choose not to be that person’s friend. This relationship is not a good one – and step back. Sometimes it is timing and sometimes cut your losses and move on!

Do what you know is right. “Stop being honest” People at odds with each other. Maybe saying a similar thing. Occasionally do something opposite like George from Seinfeld You have to be you! Spend your life with a rule book

Don’t cheat, be faithful, be kind. “Integrity is the essence of everything successful. When you break the rules of integrity you invite serious complications into your life. Keep life simple and enjoyable by doing what you know in your heart is right.

When we are out of integrity things start to drop. Sometimes hard for us to see what is integrity for us? And this probably changes over time.

Friendship – who is really important to you? Now? When you were 20? Has it changed?

Organise your space, get rid of clutter, can be stressful when things are everywhere. Your efficiency – streamline your life -your systems – make them clear and simplify your life.

Let things be less than perfect – a discussion around paper and becoming paperless – writing things help you remember. There is something about the act of writing.

Smile every chance you get; not because life has been easy, perfect, or exactly as you had anticipated, but because you choose to be happy and grateful for all the good things you do have, and all the problems you know you don’t have.

What is perfection? The real world doesn’t reward perfection? Those who choose to ‘fix’ their bodies, face etc to be ‘perfect’

Be imperfect 99% of the time. Not caring about what other people think of you – follow your heart - this leads to a discussion about the film “Nomadland”, community and adventure!

Marc and Angel Hack Life

Very coming the pull of consumerism.

Learn from the past and get the heck out of there: We have all our past ‘stuff’ we are carrying.

Never regrets!

The op shops are full of peoples clearing – taking on someone’s energy when we are buying – attracted to the scarf because of the energy of the person who owned it. Is this woo woo?

Vicki chats about her psychology around decluttering– “I get ‘poopy’ when I have to look back. I’m addicted to moving forward and it feels like back tracking and yet I need to declutter the past hoarding”

And then the emotional stuff that may be now no longer relevant but still there Sally Wilson and Stephanie Rother discuss these ‘hidden’

Then back to physical stuff – books to go back to the UK!

And will the Two Natural Ladies separate

Focus on what’s truly important

Focus on being productive not busy – get the right things done! Is what you are working on worth the effort? 4 Hour work week – is that possible. Being busy. Be effective in less time Even when you are not flat out you can spend more time doing what you really want to be doing.

When having a conversation – being in the moment not rush the chat. Be there for the person and connect with them and be going on in people’s world? Dealing with the overwhelm of being busy

Unconsciously unskilled to unconsciously skilled and the steps in-between– like learning to drive a car and then driving without thinking about it. When we first learn something new it takes more of our time and effort. Discovering new realms.

Two Natural Ladies start their discussion with some words of wisdom from the book “Thrifty Household - more than 1000 hints & tips” by the Country Women’s Association of Victoria.

· A needle is easy to thread when …

· Catching cockroaches with ease

· Mending clothing, letting pants down and adding length with socks

· Make a photo album for the kids on a rainy day

Eco friendly ideas using what we already have in our home

Vicki & Jo have a quick chat about their book (still to be finished) and then move onto edible weeds. Pickled purslane and what else we can eat that looks like something to pull out!

Another fun packed, filled with great information Podcast for the whole family.

Two Natural Ladies discuss a real life situation where people are not able to see from each other’s perspective. Using Bill & Ben in a hole fighting over the colour of the dirt, as an example, shows us all how often our perspective is only seeing part of what is.

Coming out of the hole, all the colours of the dirt can be seen as well as the grass, the trees and the birds?

It can take a paradigm shift which then enables us to focus on what is important.

There is truth in all of it. From where Bill was standing the dirt was grey and from where Ben was standing the dirt was brown. They were both right!

This leads to Vicki & Jo discussing generational wealth, a way to have everyone win. And it’s in the enquiry, the discussion that the discoveries are made – even if it is sometimes uncomfortable

Two Natural Ladies discuss the roller coaster of life. One minute we are loving humanity then something happens and we are out of sorts! How do we find a way back to that good feeling?

Jo & Vicki talk about the helpers high and how people who give live longer

· Finding a structure where everyone wins

· Volunteering

· Ripple effect – pay it forward

· Conscious giving leads to infinite giving. There is a point where we transform how we are giving so it is ongoing and sustainable.

Looking after ourselves is important. ‘Give from the saucer not from the cup’

Transforming our community and then the world. Start local- one person at a time.

Asking for help and being vulnerable is a strength not a weakness and people love to help. It is a symbiotic relationship which has everyone win.

What do you love doing to help others?

Two Natural Ladies asked their tribe what they do with their empty glass jars.

Sterilise and use for jams, pickling or nails. Jars are so useful for a variety of objects. Once cleaned, Vicki & Jo discover jars can be used for all the dried herbs. Or to bury a spare key in the garden without getting it dirty.

One very clever use is to put the unused part of an onion into and then refrigerate – no smell!

Putting hot fats in a glass jar NOT in the sink. Once it’s full you can dispose of it.

A fun info packed discussion on the wonderful amazing jar– enjoy.

Going Grey continues to be a discussion for Jo & Vicki. How long should grey hair be? What’s the best style? And then there is what going grey means to us.

We are getting older! Going grey is loaded with all the age concerns which creep up on us. Two Natural Ladies talk about the way people in our society talk about growing older. “it’s horrible getting old!” How can we breakthrough this ‘old’ conversation and embrace our new wisdom.

In some cultures being older is revered – and it’s about time we did this as well!

Two Natural Ladies chat with Jerry Penny founder of Nurture Queen Videos about the benefits of ‘Paying it Forward’.

Jerry was one of the contributors of “The Book of Inspiration for Women by Women” and she discusses, in the book, the benefit ‘paying it forward’ has on everyone involved. When someone lets you in to their lane when driving, it gives us ‘feel good’ endorphins and we are likely to pay it forward to the next car that needs to move into our lane.

Jerry is often asked to help people with products in the supermarket that are up high and finding directions. Vicki, Jo & Jerry talk about The Laws of Attraction and reciprocity and how what we give comes back to us.

As a marketing expert Jerry talks about “the Shiny Object Syndrome” so many people get caught up in paying thousands of dollars for a program that is not what they need. A bit of advice and some hard work is the answer!

Jerry & Two Natural Ladies discuss the benefits of charities and how easy it is to be part of the solution. Jerry is a generous and inspiring woman whose aim is to make a difference in the world. She loves connecting people and seeing how we can all work together to create a wonderful world.

Enjoy

Vicki introduces JO’s soap box

Our biodiversity is unique and divine

Australia’s biodiversity is magnificent, unique and more than 80% of the continent’s animals and plants are found nowhere else on Earth—and they're world renowned.

But our environmental laws are failing to protect these unique treasures.

Two Natural Ladies ask that you watch David Attenborough, Damon Gameau and consider how you can help our beautiful eco system.

We need laws to protect our wildlife, stop the destruction by stopping practices that are destroying our natural world.

Has the government listened? Can they make decisions in an office building in the city about our wilderness? Jo & Vicki suggest  we all go out and see what it is like – have a round table conference in the forest!

Creating an environment that works for everyone and everything and using the bottom up approach rather than the top to bottom approach.

Let’s all work together to look after our planet!

So let's get out there this weekend for Clean Up Australia Day 2022, this Sunday the 6th March.  Visit https://www.cleanup.org.au/ to register your own clean up crew and remember to use the Two Natural Ladies Hashtag #LetsDoIt321 so we know what you are up to!

Two Natural Ladies kick off with a poem “Intention” by Jo.

This leads to a discussion on:

“What are you proud of?”

“What are you sorry for?”

During a training course Vicki was asked to look at these questions.

Pride in Swimming & winning

Sorry for not building sandcastles

The beauty is those things we are sorry for, in many cases, we can do now! So Vicki and her family, at night, went down the beach and made a huge sandcastle! 💜

Jo shared how sorry she was for the way she sometimes treated her eldest son, Chris. The expectation on him as the oldest. AND the things Jo stepped over, that maybe could have had a different outcome.

We can apologise, we can change what we can and parents who feel sorry and did what they can to do the best possible are ahead of the game!

Do better not perfect!

Jo & Vicki have a chat about a previous interview with Anne Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef. Zero Waste is a goal not so easy to achieve. And we all have the ability to control our food waste. With one out of four bags of groceries ending up in landfill, wasting food is an environmental tragedy. The energy, water, transport used is one problem and even worse is the fact that the methane gas created by food in our landfill, is 84% more potent than carbon dioxide

We can’t take on the fossil fuel companies on our own but knowing that 8% emissions come from our food waste in comparison with 3.5% for the whole airline industry, this is something we can impact!

"Waste is a failure of the imagination” Douglas McMaster, founder of Silo

Two Natural Ladies discuss Reduce Reuse Recycle: buy less food, go shopping in our fridge and pantry and then when the food has gone off – compost!

Grocery stores and farms throw out the imperfect food. Now some companies are taking this on and creating meals for the homeless – one company made 1.5million meals

And Vicki’s cook was able to make a meal for eight with a cabbage!

Creating a new paradigm with plastic waste:

· Refuse a plastic straw · Decrease your energy bills · Follow the Two Natural Ladies with #Letsdoit321 WE can do better! 💜

Two Natural Ladies discuss a Facebook post: ‘scientifically controlled study conducted by German researchers at the University of Kassel showing when someone meditates on their heart centre and sends love and light to others they emit an amazing 100,000 photons per second (rather than 20!).

The Heart loves, feels, thinks and remembers and communicates with other Hearts. It stores information and continually with each beat pulses this information through the body. It is far more than what modern science would have you believe. It is also a pump that pumps the cellular symphony that is the very essence of your being and it is a magnetic and radiating vortex and the true source of human power.’

Jo & Vicki talk about Lynne McTaggert who also talks about the benefits of meditating in a small group and concentrating healing others. In some studies Lynne did people were cured of pain, sight and agility after a ‘Power of Eight’ group

Discover how to tap into your extraordinary human capacity for connection and healing, using astonishing new findings about the miraculous power of group intention and its boomerang effect.

We are all molecules and maybe one day we can walk though wall and put our hand though tables!

Two Natural Ladies talk about the book P.E.T (Parent Effectiveness Training) and the support this gives to parents when their kids go through puberty. At this stage in their lives parents need to be communicating with their teenagers, listening to what they are saying and work with them, so they don’t leave their parents and physically and/or psychologically

How we see teenagers when they rebel and put things in their nose and shave their head (but not all of it)

“The secret of change is to focus all our energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new” Socrates

This leads to Vicki & Jo talking about one of their favourite authors, Deborah Pascoe, and her suggestion for us all to start writing. Writing slows us down and helps us think clearer. It also cements what we have learned

Hats, chocolate, love and laughter are all part of this fun podcast

Two Natural Ladies discuss appreciating others. Beginning a conversation with true appreciation for the other person whether this is in person or on an email. Particularly when there is a complaint or problem to handle.

Dig for the gold, praise the other person and help the other person support to create a great reputation. Hilarity ensues when Vicki explains to Jo a ‘Complimentary Sandwich’ using a dog as an example 😂😂. Is the Dog OK?

“Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person’s precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment. …. Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain—and most fools do. But it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.” ~ Dale Carnegie.

It can be hard not to criticise and be authentic Be kind and caring A change in direction with Vicki’s games night with the kids. “A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats little men.” ~ Thomas Carlyle.

There is a lot of meat in this podcast and that’s not including the dog! Have fun! 😁

‘What we do for ourselves ends with us. What we do for others remains – lives on and we can change at least some part of the world’

Two Natural Ladies start with a community announcement supporting Mentone Library - an independent community run library.

Jo & Vicki then have a lively discussion, with lots of laughter, around some of the concepts in Dale Carnegie’s book: ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’

  1. Don’t criticise, condemn or complain.

  2. Give honest and sincere appreciation.

  3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.

Two Natural Ladies generally agree with Dale and question a few of his edicts –

Become genuinely interested in other people. ☑

Smile. ☑

Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language. ☑

Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves. ☑

The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.??? Not sure about this? Sometimes we need to have ‘the fight’ otherwise we are withholding what we really feel as we are too afraid to have the argument.

Show respect for the other person’s opinions. Never say, “You’re wrong.”

Having an intention, a goal and let it be, can sometimes help with handling sticky situations.

Put the suggestion ‘out there’ and then wait for the other person to think of it – great to use with kids and partners!

Jo discusses what she learnt in the Landmark forum about getting everything handle/perfect. It’s a fallacy and not possible. Kids teach us this too

AS Two Natural Ladies so often quote ‘Do better not perfect!’ which leads to questioning multi-tasking – is it possible?

“Whatever you are be a good one” Abraham Lincoln

Enjoy 😘

Please show your support at https://www.bridgeit.org.au

Two Natural Ladies have an inspiring chat with Carla Reynes founder of Bridge It. Carla has worked in the homelessness sector for 17 years both in the UK and in Australia and in 2018 co-founded a not-for-profit social enterprise, Home Share Melbourne. In July 2021 Carla launched her own charity, Bridge It which continues the work of Home Share Melbourne as well as offering two residential programs for women in St Kilda.

Jo & Vicki start by finding out how the two residential programs work:

  • The Sanctuary is an 8 apartment property in St Kilda, beautifully renovated to high standards. This program is for women over 25 and is really targeted to women middle aged plus who are the fastest growing homeless group in Australia. The aim: – to create a community of women living with a psychological & psychiatric issue.

With an onsite mentor and links to many other support networks, this is potentially a forever housing option. With support with mental health, employment and a stable place to live the aim is to create a community feel where true friendships can be fostered. For some this safe environment may allow some of these women to transition into one bedroom apartments – for others The Sanctuary will be their forever home. * The Cocoon has a therapeutic aspect: A 19 apartment property with beautiful high quality housing at an affordable price (the women give 30% of income). This is designed for young women. Another safe housing option for women with additional issues, mainly psychological and psychiatric disabilities.

Included will be, therapies a sensory garden and community building. The idea is with early intervention after a 12 month period, these young women will be ready to live independently. Two Natural Ladies discuss with Carla, where her ideas came from. And after almost 20 years in the industry Carla has worked in many different homeless area and has used the best of these to create something ‘more’ than what has been out there up till now.

One of the major issues with many of the agencies at present is they are short term. A six week program is often not enough for real change. Once the support is withdrawn, the problems return. As Vicki and Jo discover, it ends up being a continuous cycle. Creating a 12 month safe housing option, is enough time to see real change.

Carla is a big thinker with big aspirations. Two Natural Ladies uncover some of Carla’s future goals.

  • Prove this model works that investing in people will make a difference not in the too hard basket.
  • Roll it out throughout Australia and get government support!

Jo, Vicki and Carla discuss the balance of being a mum and entrepreneur. Carla shares how inspired she is being the mum of two. “Being a mum is what motivates me! I want everyone to have affordable and safe housing” Watch this space as Carla creates the change so needed in a system that is quite broken. As well as creating a flexible work environment for all. This is a podcast that will leave you touched, moved and inspired. **

Community Connection Compassion – to humans and animals alike

Two Natural Ladies kick off this podcast with a discussion around community living and the different ways we can do this. As has been discussed before Vicki has a bigger one and Jo reads out a poem sharing why this is the case! 😂

Black Fish film is the topic of Jo’s Soap Box. Three of Jo’s children were water births and were involved in baby swim classes at an early age. When he second son was a baby, the family started swimming with the dolphins at Sorrento. JO has done a lot of research into the horrendous torture these mammals endure in captivity, Black Fish confirms this.

· Inhumane treatment of the mammals

· Punishment when ticks are not performed properly

· Isolation in tiny areas to ‘control’ them

· All male orcas in captivity have bent over fins – a sign of depression and stress

A number of trainers were killed and misinformation and lies are given out during the shows at these theme parks.

This is a not to be missed podcast.

Did you know that packaging accounts for 1/3 of our waste in weight and ½ in volume?

Were you aware that recycling one aluminium can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours?

Jo does a surprise Pop Quiz asking Vicki a variety of questions relating to Reuse Reduce Recycle. Vicki’s score 6/10 (and these were questions from America!) Well done Vicki.

Waste not…

Two Natural ladies discuss Anne- Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef’s ideas to reduce waste.

• Eat the planetary diet – less meat more fruit and vegies.

• Buy less food, use what you already have - 1 in 4 bags of food is wasted in the average household.

• Preserve food starting to go ‘soft’

• Buy less stuff – fix what you have

Just start! Pick one thing and get that right and then move on to something else.

There is something for everyone in this Podcast 💜😎

A paradigm shift: a fundamental change in an approach or assumption

Two Natural Ladies have a roving discussion around changing the way we use our cars, creating community spaces, retirement and separation.

How do we feel about getting old and what happens to us when we ‘retire’!

Jo & Vicki share some of their experience in 2020 including Vicki’s bond to her garden – the edible and inedible bits!

Will you retire? What does it mean to retire? And how will you live your retirement? In a supportive community? With your family? Volunteer? Do some courses? Play Golf? Join Rotary?

So much to do!

Two Natural Ladies chat about Jo’s experience as a Youth Worker. The spark of the young people and the possibilities. It has been hard during 2020 and now it is our opportunity to assist young people to see possibility for themselves.

Give all those who are marginalised: the young; the homeless; ex-prisoner the chance to find a way through. Assist with networks and creating relationships.

Vicki & Jo feel grateful that they and their families have each other. They stayed connected throughout 2020 and even became closer playing games and hanging out more than usual.

A quick discussion ensues around young people and sex education. What we did learn at school and what we wanted to learn were very different. Again it was the talk around relationships and connection that young people were more interested in discussing.

Are young women being more objectified with the lack of social connection? What can we do to support each other?

A thought provoking podcast.

What did people do during covid: Some wrote a book: Two Natural Ladies share Vicki’s daughter, Ash’s book: ‘Columbus the Magic Turtle’. The adventures of a very special turtle and a young boy called Ben. Included in the book is discussion about the amount of plastic and rubbish in the oceans:

Letsdoit321 Two Natural Ladies hashtag for us all to make a difference to the planet, by picking up THREE pieces of rubbish a day and asking TWO others to do the same Charlie McGee, founder of Formidable Vegetables and advocate for the illumination of plastic, has a very unusual email signature:

“Please note: It is normal for me to take at least 2 days to check/read my emails and 2 more days to reflect on the matter and respond calmly. The culture of immediacy and the constant fragmentation of time are no longer compatible with the life I lead.” Jo & Vicki discuss our obsession with immediacy

This podcast will have you think – even for a moment about how quickly we really have to respond to things!

High on the list of vital nutrients for the body is water. With around 60% or more of our body being made of water, we need water to flourish.

Two Natural Ladies discuss intermittent fasting and drinking lots of water, which can help with many health problems

Jo & Vicki share some of the benefits of Community and The Blue Zones: is it the wholefood that is eaten in these communities or the feeling of belonging that has people live longer? Deepak Chopra talks about the huge benefits of eating and hanging out with the people we love.

Two Natural Ladies comment on The Natural Health Society of Australia’s newsletter which talks about the lack of hydration in the average Australian. Over 80% of us are dehydrated. Even mild dehydration can reduce the body’s ability to function.

Some signs that you may need to increase your uptake of mineralized water include:

  • Sugar cravings

  • Salt cravings

  • Fatigue

  • Feeling the need to drink a lot of water at one time

  • Sleep issues; falling asleep, waking in the night or early in the morning

  • Tension, nervousness, anxiety, or panic

A great hydrating drink: Watermelon slushies with mint.

Umbrella Family Law: Helping our clients start their new life

Two Natural Ladies have a fun and interesting interview with Eve Smith from Umbrella Family Law.

This collaborative law firm, shelters their clients under the umbrella, protecting them from the storms and from the sunshine too. It is actually important at times when things are going well to seek some legal advice – just in case.

Everyone has a story about separation and everyone’s case is different. Vicki, Jo and Eve discuss how for some they feel bullied and give in “just not worth the battle”.

Seeking advice early on, when someone feels they may want to separate can stop ‘the war’. Unfortunately there are a lot of law firms that are heavy into litigation. Umbrella family law see court as a last resort. Wherever possible they are collaborative, the less upset created the better.

Eve can usually recommend a counselling service when needed however at present these services are hard to access due to the huge demand. Umbrella family law, although nor counsellors often deal with some of the angst and upset someone separating is going through. They are often finding out the most intimate details and it is hard to say “sorry I’m just your lawyer I can’t talk to you about that”.

With this in mind Umbrella Family Law has now set up Umbrella Family Support to help with these more emotional situations.

Jo & Vicki discuss with Eve how Covid has made it easier to connect with people via Zoom during people’s lunch break etc everyone is more accessible! Unfortunately Co-vid has also created more separations and family violence where previously things were relatively harmonious.

Locked down, frustrated and finding it hard to find accommodation are just some of the issues people are dealing with.

Two Natural Ladies discover that Eve is dual qualified. Eve qualified as a lawyer in the U.K. With these extra qualifications Eve can help access the best place to divorce. And with a large expat community this is a great point of difference.

Although it’s not possible to represent both parties if Eve and her team are able to suggest a lawyer this can be helpful for everyone. Two collaborative lawyers means they are much more likely to have a quick, clean outcome. And no court!

Eve can give 3-4 names of lawyers for the other party.

Family law is everything to do with the start of a relationship and pooling their assets and the end of a relationship when assets are being divided. It also includes the arrangement with the children, where they sat how often they stay, school pick up etc.

Jo and Vicki talk with Eve about the problems faced when children become “piggy in the middle”. This is often where there is no choice but court. When relationships are being disentangled the grandparents can be.

Divorce Costs? Most of us think this is going to be extremely costly. If litigation is involved it can go into the $100,000’s. The more amicable it is the cheaper it I and the more money for the next phase.

Eve, Jane and their team want to make sure everyone is looked after – particularly the children. When things become polarised it is not in the best interest for the kids.

A very inspiring interview with Eve Smith, in an area that can be so divisive. Her commitment to a smooth, inexpensive outcome is apparent in this podcast.

Two Natural Ladies discuss the common, well-loved onion. It is grown worldwide and closely related to chives, garlic, scallions, shallots, and leeks. They have several health benefits, mostly due to their high content of antioxidants and sulphur-containing compounds.

Medical Medium, one of Vicki’s favourite doctors, discusses the benefits of onions as an antiseptic and healing plant. Many people say they have allergies, which may actually be their bodies healing – they also have anti-inflammatory benefits.

Two Natural Ladies share their Groupie’s comments: Using onions on the feet to cure colds and flu. As a cough remedy and for ear aches. Join the TNL Groupies here..http://bit.ly/2nlgroup

Commonly used as a flavouring or side dish, onions are a staple food in many cuisines. They can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, roasted, sautéed, powdered, or eaten raw.

Included in this podcast are ways to stop yourself from crying when cutting them, as well as many ways suggested that are NOT so helpful

As always Jo & Vicki offer insight, facts and some great banter: ENJOY

Celebrating our ancestors: the things we wish we could ask those that have now gone.

Two Natural Ladies share stories from their past. Vicki discusses Uncle John’s Organ and her husband Shane who showed interest in learning keyboards. In retrospect Vicki could have connected Shane and Uncle John with their common interest.

And Vicki’s beloved garden! As a child her mum and grandma would walk in the garden and discuss the flowers. At the time it seemed so boring, but now Vicki would love to be able to ask questions about the plants in her garden – what’s edible.

Jo’s husband Frank, loves to wander in the gardens of friends and family and find edible plants. Two Natural Ladies mention their enthusiasm for edible garden and edible nature strips and leaving plants that may seem like weeds but attract the bees.

Jo talks about her special times with her Nana. Stringing the beans in the kitchen and putting cream on her feet before bed are two of Jo’s favourite memories. There was always a sense of calm around her Nana.

And a confession from Jo – the worm farm has been a complete failure and the worms are no moreL. Vicki is traumatised and feels she may need to take the rest of the day off and leave Jo to a solo career.

A great reflective podcast!

Two Natural Ladies interview Rosie Bouton from WePlan Financial who offers a unique service for families and the elderly dealing with the minefield of ageing and ‘what’s next’.

Rosie worked for Services Australia (CentreLink) for 13 years and during that time worked predominately with carers looking after a family member. These carers give up a lot to look after a loved one keeping them safe and with dignity

Vicki and Jo discover Rosie’s passion. She could see some cracks in the system and so she started her own business We Plan to support people trying to navigate the aged care system. It is difficult and daunting for everyone involved. And it is such an emotional time.

Rosie’s procedure when someone ask for help is:

· 5-10 minute chat about what’s going on

· A longer session collecting more information

· A strategy document – with options and guidance

· Ideally Rosie wants to speak with the elderly person but often due to circumstances it is the families

Two Natural Ladies learn that Rosie does need comprehensive information about the elderly persons finances as the system is means tested

Ideally people would plan for their future care needs which means that things are not rushed. But unfortunately people tend to leave it till that critical time. None of us want to end up in “one of those places”

Jo shares some of the things that her and her parents are going through at this time and how lucky she is that her parents are forward thinking. Rosie reiterates it is better to plan as it gives the elderly the control

Once Rosie is engaged by the family she can assist with all aspects of what’s next. AND give people the choice – “Choose Your own Adventure’! (Retirement village, Stay at home, Aged care facility, Granny Flat in the back yard) This takes that stress away from dealing with lawyers, all the paper work etc - Rosie helps with the gambit of logistics

Understanding the Government system puts Rosie in a unique position. She doesn’t charge for her initial hour and will never let someone struggle no matter what their financial situation.

Advanced care planning and putting the decisions of future medical planning into the hands of the elderly is her aim. Rosie shares a wonderful story about a Vietnam vet where she was able to give him what he wanted – to stay at home. She saved the family $1,000’s as well!

Financial benefit a lot of loop holes with this systems complex and specialist area – will save you financially.

Rosie’s commitment is to keep the power in the hands of the client and assist them in their choices.

What a wonderful service and a wonderful woman

“Encountering adversity ultimately deepens us and gives us access to inner strength” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Two Natural ladies discuss some of the everyday struggles we all face. Anxiety, depression, fear and isolation – and for those who can no longer go on do they realise the affect this will have on their families and friends forever?

Although at the time when things seem darkest – ‘This too shall pass’. We just need to find a way to put one step in front of the other – as Deborah Pascoe says find one thing that lights you up/makes you feel good.

There are always people around and when we are at our worst we can’t see them. Participating makes a difference. Jo shares how when she was at her lowest, it was her time with Vicki, just being, that was a relief from her suffering.

And yet when we are at our worst we shy away from people – counter intuitive! “Marriage is hard, Divorce is hard - Life can be hard –so choose your hard” And though we are alone we are all in this together.

Without the dark there is no light. Change is a constant... that's for sure.

Two Natural Ladies start this podcast with a Happy Birthday poem from Vicki to Jo.

Jo & Vicki share their passion for sustainability, picking up rubbish #Letsdoit321 and making a difference.

They talk about Natalie Isaacs and her beginning into the realm of waste and being sustainable. At some point we need to say: “Up with this we will no longer put!”

We can make a difference as was shown by Greta Thunberg, when she decided to take a day off school and protest in front of the government building in her capital city. This lead to children all over the world doing the same thing.

Two Natural Ladies discuss Anne-Marie, the Zero Waste chef and her blog about 2020 and how we can all feel hopeful for 2021!

“We can rapidly alter course. We the people changed our behaviours almost overnight last year. During the first Covid lockdowns, we began to wash our hands compulsively, physically distance from one another and wear our masks. Industry developed new Covid protocols. Covid has reined in our obsession with unattainable beauty standards”

It looks like finally the rest of the world is catching up to the Two Natural Ladies 😎💜. Celebrating being natural, seeing us as we are not trying to achieve some unattainable, media driven standard of how we should look.

“The more we celebrate natural, realistic appearances and refuse to expend energy striving for standards that we can never reach, the more difficult the marketer’s job to sell us things we don’t need.” Zero Waste Chef

What a wonderful world it can be – Enjoy

Two Natural Ladies have both experienced the benefits of Intermittent Fasting. A process that has been recommended by certain health experts for over sixty years.

Jo shares her discovery of Justin Nault and the information he gives about fasting. Justin talks about:

Autophagy which is the body's way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. “Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat. So the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating.” This process begins after only 24 hours of fasting.

AND

Apoptosis is a process that occurs when a cell intentionally “decides” to die. In humans, apoptosis plays a major role in preventing cancer by causing cells with damaged DNA to commit “suicide” before they can become cancerous. ...

Insulin creates weight gain. Fasting reduces insulin.

Vicki talks about her health issues many years ago and how fruit fasting worked for her. She lost weight and had heaps more energy – it worked for her. She did have to deal with other people’s opinions and after a time stopped sharing what she was doing with most people.

The discussion continues, with talk about a leading fasting expert Dr Alan Goldhammer, who advocates fasting to assist us to live healthier lives.

Give our digestion a break, help with inflammation. Craving processed food is out new normal. We no longer crave fruit. But after fasting for a short period of time our taste buds love fruit again.

Jo & Vicki also touch on the foods advertised for children as healthy for them to eat. Only 10% of the content has any nutritional value!

Have a listen and do some research for yourself 😎💜

Two Natural Ladies wish everyone a Happy 2021 (9 months late!). Jo & Vicki question: When do we stop saying “Happy New Year? And when do the Christmas decorations get put away? – never according to Vicki!

Once the holiday season is over it can be difficult for us to get back into work mode. Vicki and Jo discuss ways to ease into work to make it easier. We can resent being back.

Two Natural Ladies discuss their yearly holidays away from the kids, a free trip given by the company they worked with as an incentive. A time to think and explore without the constant interruptions from four children. Then the shock of going back home, after being pampered, to the constant demands. Resenting the kids, resenting being back into the everyday.

Resenting washing the dishes. Why are there always more? Trying to get the sink ‘up to date’ And everyone feels they are doing their share. Vicki & Jo talk about the waste of emotions, feeling this resentment and resenting feeling resentful.

Take a moment to breath; sit with things and don’t react. We can interpret things incorrectly and create bigger dramas. Jo & Vicki find stepping back, using their gut, their intuition often stops issues increasing.

Enjoy 💜

The social dilemma: we won’t be happy till we have the next thing

2021 has begun and the Two Natural Ladies discuss decluttering

Oh dear, Vicki has a problem letting go of her past clutter. Jo offers to help but worries this could be the end of a beautiful friendship.

Pledging to declutter a certain area, or one box a day can be helpful – making a commitment to others to get it done.

Apparently the average household has around 300,000 items – we all have our own Op shops we can find things to reuse.

We are in a social dilemma: we won’t be happy till we have X. And once we have X, the good feeling is fleeting, we then need the next thing to make us feel content. During lockdown we did declutter but many of us also spent a lot on line and bought more ‘stuff”

Jo & Vicki also talk about the wonderful act of paying it forward and giving away what we no longer need or use.

It is a fun and interesting discussion 😎💜

Things are hard – ‘choose your hard’. Whether you have four kids at home, home schooling, or you are isolated and on your own, there are challenges. Two Natural Ladies discuss finding things to be grateful for: Christmas Day is only one day and it can be tough.

Jo shares her Christmas with her family now and as a child: Growing up she had a traditional English Christmas with hot food on a hot day! Noisy at lunch and quiet and musical at night. No longer traditional, Secret, Kris Kringle with prawns, seafood, salads and Lebanese food.

Vicki then shares her childhood with just the four of them. Her Mum would surprise and delight them with lots of presents. A quiet day at home.

Christmas Eve traditions are discussed including reading ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and kids sleeping in the same room (even as adults).

Jo & Vicki discuss how as mums we compare ourselves with others. As mums we often look at other mums and think they are doing a better job. We are always trying to do it ‘right’. Whether its discipline, education, keeping the house tidy, playing with the kids, we are forever doubting ourselves and thinking others have it handled.

Two Natural Ladies talk about the lack of a manual for each child – why isn’t there one? Navigating how to do all the millions of things we need to do as parents throughout a child’s life and try and do it right. We are only human!

Trying to have a date night and falling asleep!

Vicki & Jo continue with this discussion of doing it right and then BAM, our darlings reach an age and now hate us! It certainly takes resilience to be a parent!

Working out which battles to fight and remembering we are not raising perfect humans, like their Mums and Dads, they are flawed.

And then when you feel you can take no more – ‘The perfect moment “happens. The children are all playing and laughing and having such fun - It’s like a postcard and we want to hold onto it but it quickly slips through our fingers and a fight ensues, or someone gets upset and the moment is gone.

Parenting is certainly not for the feint hearted – but is also filled with many joyful and funny moments – one of which Vicki shares about briefly at the end (haha)

We hope you enjoy this exploration into the world of parenting 💜

Vicki and Jo are in love with humanity and all is right with the world and then BAM, something happens. Two Natural Ladies become upset, sad and forget that feeling of love and appreciation. At these times we need to bring Joy and Compassion to ourselves and others.

Grab your ‘tool box’ that helps get us out of the quagmire: exercise, uplifting music, quotes calling a friend.

The younger generation now do so much of their communicating via text – Two Natural Ladies discuss connecting with their families using the ways that work. Texting leads to a quick discussion about the movie ‘The Social Dilemma’ where they shine a light on our fixation and dependency on technology.

The good the bad and the ugly is discussed in this podcast – enjoy

Two Natural Ladies discuss their upcoming book and the tricky road to being yourself and acceptable.

It sounds so easy when you hear the words ‘Just be yourself. Don’t worry what other people think. Just be you. Acknowledge your wonderfulness.’

But it’s not easy at all.

We all struggle to feel ok and not get caught up with the internal monologues that plague us, whispering ‘I should be thinner / smarter / talk less / talk more..’ We automatically compare ourselves to the other people around us and, more often than not, find ourselves lacking.

But I’m the only me I have, so it’s important to accept who I am. And, what’s so ironic is that while I’m busy thinking I should be more like ‘Jane’, because she exercises, always eats well, cooks homemade delights, sews, knits and loves gardening, someone else is looking at me thinking ‘Why can’t I be more like Jo?’

Jo & Vicki discuss finding your tribe- those that will have your back.

We are humans walking around with voices in our head and we have to navigate the internal and external worlds

Then conversing with others who also have their internal conversations. When there is conflict it usually isn’t what we think it is. If we can get out of the way and listen, we often find what we thought was the issue isn’t actually the issue

We will go to war over ‘the truth’ – and when we look back at decision made 25 years ago do we think they are still ‘right’?

Two Natural Ladies talk about Sally Wilson’s discussion on her website, I am Sally

“From early childhood, we start taking on beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. These unconscious core beliefs form our identity, drive our decisions and shape who we are.

Have you ever thought...

  • I’m not good enough.
  • I don’t deserve love or respect.
  • If I try, I’m going to fail.
  • Life’s just too damn hard.

Those are unconscious beliefs. And those sneaky little suckers manifest in self-sabotaging behaviours that compromise your wellbeing and success. Over time, these negative thoughts will accumulate in your body and weigh you down.

The result? Feeling heavy, stressed out, and well and truly over it.”

Two Natural Ladies finish this podcast with a poem about who they are 💜😎

Enjoy

Two Natural Ladies have a wonderful Chat with Cathy Shaw owner of Bentleigh Automotive. We can’t see the parts of our car that are dirty and Cathy loves showing people these dirty bits and why we need to get them replaced or get them cleaned.

She demystifies the car and its parts. Cathy started working with Darren, her husband, part time in the business when their kids were little and as her confidence and knowledge grew Cathy moved to the front counter where she gets to connect with people. This is where Cathy loves to be, chatting and connecting with people and there is always something going on.

The satisfaction of helping people with something almost everyone has and at some point will need help with. Our cars are an expensive asset and when there is a problem can mean big dollars.

Cathy loves educating people in what we need to do and how important maintenance is – it will save us in the long run.

A few great tips:

· Trust yourself. If there is a new noise get it checked.

· Use your air conditioner in winter with your heater to defrost the car quickly

· Make sure your wipers are working properly

Jo & Vicki ask what the difference is between a dealership and an independent workshop. Bentleigh Automotive will check what is recommended to be fixed and see if it really needs to be done. With dealerships it is automatically done.

Like many industries Co-vid had a major effect on their business. It was very difficult during the lockdown period but then extremely busy before Christmas. A roller coaster ride!

During our discussion Cathy recommends people check their cars regularly and keep them moving regularly. Just like people cars need to be active! It is important to have some knowledge about your car as it is one of the most expensive items you will ever own. AND where’s your dip stick? 😂

Being part of the Bosch community means they have people around them that can offer support. Not isolated and on their own. So many varieties of cars and makes and models. The industry has become much more complicated.

Next time your vehicle needs a service or repair - try the team at Bosch Car Service Bentleigh. Follow Bentleigh Automotive Services on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with tips, tricks and industry news! https://bentleighautomotiveservices.com.au/

Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

Two Natural Ladies reminisce on a time when travel anywhere was possible Vicki & Jo share some of their highlights and their lowest moments while in Europe.

Their surprises and what seemed ordinary. Vicki and her drinking and Jo’s moment when she was considering the demise of her friend! Where to next now that Covid is an ongoing reality?

Learning how to seeTwo Natural Ladies have a fun and lively discussion with two leaders in their individual fields, who together create magic.

Maureen, an artist and Shruti a business coach were introduced to each other by Vicki, who they will forever be grateful to. They discovered they shared a vision and Art & Authenticity was born. The heart work of Maureen & Shruti is their values guiding people in a safe space, giving people the opportunity to be vulnerable and learn tolerance of themselves and others.

Art & Authenticity is a six week program designed to allow the participants to discover:

  • An outlet to re-centre and find their true focus and feel empowered.
  • Find their personal definition of what success means to them
  • Strip the many masks and find who we truly are
  • See we are Limitless

The Benefits:

  • Self-awareness
  • Find our limiting beliefs
  • Allowing the illusions to fall away
  • Find your purpose

Maureen tells a wonderful story about her son to illustrate how we are trained to look at circumstances and talks about the power of operating at our best and inspiring everyone around us.

Shruti asks Jo & Vicki what is the most important thing about their business? YOU! Or is it Jo? Or Vicki? Or both? 😂 No matter how big a business is it starts with people. 💜

The core of the Art & Authenticity Program:

  • Great businesses have great leaders that are self-aware and have emotional intelligence.
  • They know how to operate outside their comfort zone.
  • Think forward
  • Take risks to create their desired results
  • Have a wonder mindset

Most effective when you are having fun. Creativity drives innovation. Art compound in the program stretches that muscle. With Shruti’s human behavioural aspects and Maureen’s focus on our perceptions and how we see things this workshop provides a unique and unconventional experience.

The workshop provides people with an opportunity to connect and become vulnerable. Realise perseverance and allow ourselves to be uncomfortable and see we are all limitless.

“Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see” Mark Twain

Jo & Vicki are out and about and back together in the one studio. And there is nothing better than discussing the kindness of others. As Christmas 2020 approaches a wonderful Good Samaritan pays off over 80 lay-buys to the value of $16,000, telling the store to say it was one of Santa’s Helpers.

This leads on to a discussion about what Jo &Vicki would do if they won Tattslotto or had limitless funds. The wonderful things they could do to help others.

Paul Wagstaff is the owner of Cultivate Digital which is a boutique web design studio located in Melbourne, Australia and is now a top FIVE rated web design agency in Google.

Two Natural Ladies ask Paul, “What do we need to do when starting a business?” His answer – how long is a piece of string? Actually he didn’t say that Vicki did LOL. Paul explains what to do first is dependent on the size of the business; is it a small part time business or one with hundreds of employees?

What everyone needs these days is a Website -to compete! And when creating a website things need to be in certain spots so people can quickly find them. ***A must is to put a phone number up top which will click and connect.

“We create something different and unique for each person.”

Jo & Vicki also ask Paul about:

· Costs of creating a website

· What work can the client do?

· SEO

· Social media

· Google maps

Paul talks about the benefits of blogs – Content is KING and it is important with any information put onto your website that it is original, or google will penalise you!

AND a BIG Important and empowering tip - BACK YOURSELF! You’ve made the leap so put some effort and time into your blogs and social media and spend some money.

And the million dollar question …’How do we know if what we are doing is working?’ It’s all about the clicks, who clicks and fills in the form and how this relates to getting $$. We can’t rely on our fallible human memory “Yes this month was a pretty good month” How do you know that? Do you have data?

SEO is extremely important and gathering that data – finding out what’s working and what isn’t.

This a great podcast for anyone with their own business – or knows someone with their own business

Two Natural Ladies chat about Jemma Doley’s information from Fantastic Services Group, on what we hate most about cleaning.

Number one is cleaning the bathroom! It is our most despised task, with 38% of Aussies admitting they dislike this chore.

Just under half admit that they never clean the windows or the oven. And Vicki and Jo agree. Living near the beach what’s the point in cleaning the windows! 😂 And the oven, well fortunately for Jo and Vicki they have people in their life who like cleaning – so they don’t have to do it. This is a blessing as caked on oven gunk can become carcinogenic!

Unfortunately to clean or not to clean creates issues with our partners. Three-quarters of Aussies admit that they fight about the housework, with one-in-ten fighting as often as weekly.

What happened in Covid 2020?

Two Natural Ladies noticed that more people seemed to be cleaning and organising. And although only 13% of people didn’t like to garden, is that due to feeling alone when they do it?

Incredibly a fifth of people, never cleaned out their fridge! How can that be Jo & Vicki exclaim! What is needed is a fridge where everything can be seen so food at the back never gets forgotten!

The answer, or at least one of them, outsource these hated jobs and get a cleaner and/or gardener.

Everyone will see a bit of themselves in this discussion.

Pop a cork, celebrate and eat cake!

“Everyone has a book in them and how wonderful to hear a chapter of theirs”

And do you have a NOIM?

Two Natural Ladies interview Petra Harmer-Shrowder from PH Celebrants. Petra is a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant who creates beautiful ceremonies, throughout Australia for happy and sad occasions.

Petra began her exploration into Adventure Ceremonies after a wedding turned into a funeral on the Bedarra islands in Queensland. Her love for travel and something different led her to create services in the air, on the sea, in the snow or some other beautiful destination.

Jo & Vicki chatted with Petra about celebrating people’s lives while they are still with us. “Everyone has a book in them and how wonderful to hear a chapter of theirs” The idea of Living Ceremonies was inspired when Petra’s mum was diagnosed with Alzeimers. A way to remember, acknowledge and learn more about the person and then eat some cake with them!

In a competitive market it’s wonderful to offer something a little bit different. It doesn’t have to be with a huge amount of people or huge amount of expense. It can be beautiful and simple.

Many people forget there are legal procedures needed and when getting married. Petra explains one of the first things is a “Notice of Intended Marriage” (NOIM). There is often surprise at how much is involved in the first meeting with a celebrant and in light of this Petra is offering anyone listening to this, a guide, the top tips, including the procedures and ideas to work out what you want.

“We, the celebrants, need to remember-“The ceremony isn’t about us it’s about the people who are getting married”

In funerals, Petra explained, multicultural elements and rituals can be include as well as information about where the person came from. When her friend’s partner died before their wedding, they held a memorial service on Bedarra Island the ceremony included a cocktail and a food dish named after him – it was a celebration!

Contact Petra at PH Celebrants via Facebook or email: petra@phcelebrants.com.au

Mention Two Natural Ladies and get a FREE Celebrants guide, which includes all the legal documents you need as well as tips for the best ceremony for you

Parenting: A never ending story

Two Natural Ladies discuss how children are yours for life – just like a puppy.

Vicki and Jo have both done a number of personal development courses which have helped in their parenting. They talk about one course in particular that influenced them both greatly - P.E.T. (Parent Effectiveness Training) which began over 45 years ago as the first national parent-training program to teach parents how to communicate more effectively with kids and offer step-by-step advice to resolving family conflict so everybody wins.

It was and still is a ground-breaking program.

This course gives parents step by step advice. Active listening! Whose problem is it? Pick your battles.

A compassionate program that helps us all communicate more effectively

A no-win scenario being a working mum or staying home.

Vicki starts a conversation around the dilemma of mums working or not working – the no win scenarios.

TV was discussed extensively. Jo limited the amount her kids were able to watch, Vicki often found the TV on while kids were elsewhere. Vicki’s kids remember going away a lot as their grandparents lived hours away. Jo reminisces about the ‘special day’ her boys had with her – each term each child had a special day off to do whatever they wanted with their mum.

Vicki spent hours cooking with her kids, who are now in hospitality and have great independent living skills.

This is a great podcast for all parents - a real reflection into the world raising children.

Two Natural Ladies interview their children: Something they learnt was ‘Get that you failed and go from there’....

Jo & Vicki found the conversations interesting and illuminating.

Vicki crying in the car and how her daughter felt. Jo yelling at the kids, her guilt and yet her children didn’t even mention this! Vicki cooking with the kids and Jo playing games with her boys, Vicki snuggling with her brood and Jo’s nightly reading -all the children appreciated the things these mums did with them.

8.7 out of 10 – Kids rate Mum

Jo received a rating of 8.7 out of 10 even though she was seen as quite strict.

Two Natural Ladies chatted about how their kids felt as young children and how they feel now as adults.

Feeling exhausted, tolerance low, wanting to be the perfect mum and failing. There was a healing in having these conversations and knowledge that although Vicki and Jo aren’t perfect they did a pretty good job and their children appreciated much of what they did when they were younger.

We can all say the wrong thing and make the wrong decision and saying sorry can make such a difference.

Enjoy this podcast of trials and tribulation and a whole lot of love. – We are all human!

Two Natural Ladies share some of their book (yet to be released) on ‘Laughter and Play’

Mate and Rummikub, ‘What’s at Play’- there is actually a seriousness in playing. Vicki and Jo decide no ‘Adulting’ today and discuss how they can do this in their professional meetings. Have fun and be professional!

Two Natural ladies chat about the many advantages of smiling:

· ‘Three smiles a day will increase your endorphins’ from Deb Pascoe’s book Vive

· Smiling is humans most powerful gesture

· When we smile people are attracted to us

Play with poetry has become an important part of Two Natural Ladies life

Two Natural ladies have an inspiring conversation with Carla Raynes founder of Home Share Melbourne. This not for profit social enterprise receives no government funding and is in need of our support. There are two initiatives run by the organisation.

  1. Disability Housing. With the support of NDIS Home Share Melbourne find accommodation for people with a disability who don’t want to live at home or in a shared housing situation. This is doing very well and NDIS offer a lot of support.

  2. Homeless Home Share Program: helping those at risk of homelessness, particularly young people who need a stable home environment to find work, or continue at school.

What Carla and her team find, including her identical twin sister Jenna, is the people who are placed in these homes end up with a lifelong friendship and sense of community. Something they may not have had previously.

Carla shares a wonderful story about a 17 year old girl and asks us to consider opening our home to young people in need. Home Share Australia make sure the home and the young person are a right fit and there are stringent criteria on both sides. Everyone is safe and the end result is an incredible opportunity and experience for everyone involved.

We know you will enjoy this interview and please consider supporting this organisation in need of rooms and donations.

www.homesharemelbourne.org

Carla is a passionate social entrepreneur with a commitment to social justice and an interest in applying innovation to societal issues. She has a degree in Social Policy and Sociology, and also holds a diploma in Community Studies. She started her career working as a disability support worker, and has since held front line and senior positions within the homelessness sector.

Carla holds board positions within homelessness and animal charities. “I met my fellow founders in 2018 and knew that we were going to do big things together. We developed Home Share Melbourne which we have seen change the lives of so many people so far and hope to keep growing and growing!”

Two Natural Ladies chat about the rubbish on the beach and how we can reduce this by bringing containers and taking them home rather than single use plastic. Unfortunately there will still be a need for us all to pick up a few #Letsdoit321 – on the beach, at the shops, in your street!

1 Million Women have a number of amazing initiatives as does the Zero Waste chef around reducing our rubbish. Jo & Vicki discuss some of Anne Marie’s (Zero Waste Chef) ideas around gifts – which leads on to discussion about Vicki’s garden and Jo’s friend giving plants for Christmas’s and birthdays! Ask what people need. Christmas gifts and innovative ‘Kris Kringle’ ideas– stealing each other’s presents? There are so many ways we can Reduce; Reuse; Recycle

The philosophy Two Natural Ladies live by ‘Do Better not Perfect’ is demonstrated with Jo’s great plastic recycling and Vicki’s wonderful worms.

Vicki discusses the many benefits of peas and how to cook them, while Jo, and our fabulous 88.3 Southern FM friend Paulin O’Brien try to work out the phone issues – yet again (laugh)

Pea Ice cream is suggested as well as mushy peas, peas with tuna and egg and even a few pea haters! Two Natural ladies cannot understand how anyone could dislike peas and acknowledge for some it is a childhood thing. Being made to sit at the table and finish your peas – or before getting to the yummy bits – DESERT!

Jo shares some nutritional information after giving up on the phones.

According to Taste.com.au - Here are 10 Secrets of Peas.

1) Green peas (also known as garden peas) are small green ‘seeds’ found in pea pods. These pods grow on climbing vines and are botanically classed as fruit.

2) The best way to shell fresh peas is to use your thumb and index finger to tear the stem end of the pod and pull out the thick ‘string’. Then, run your thumb down the seam to prise it open and scrape out the peas, which are only attached to one side of the pod.

3) Peas are green because they’re harvested when immature. As they mature, they start to yellow and become starchy. Smaller peas are sweeter than older ones. You can tell if peas are young by how firm their pod is. If it is limp and starting to yellow, steer clear.

4) Frozen peas are snap-frozen within 3 hours of being picked and have no additives. So, paradoxically, it’s better to buy frozen peas than fresh ones that may have been sitting around.

5) Pea shoots and tendrils are also edible. Add to salads or stir-fry with ginger, garlic and sesame oil for a simple side.

6) Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess & The Pea tells the story of a young princess whose royalty is confirmed when her delicate body can feel the pressure of one pea under 20 mattresses and 20 feather beds.

7) Cook peas in minimal water to retain nutrients. They should take 2-3 minutes in boiling water. Young peas can be eaten raw.

8) Nutritionally, peas are mini power packs. They are an excellent source of dietary fibre and a good source of B vitamins (not just B1), vitamin C, vitamin A, folate, iron and zinc. That’s a lot of goodness for just 59 Cals per 100g!

9) India is the world’s largest producer of peas, which is little wonder considering the amazing pea dishes they’ve given us – mmm, aloo matar or matar paneer anyone?

10) Split peas are peas that have been dried and their husks removed. Once the husk is gone, the pea naturally splits in half, allowing for a quick cooking time (and no soaking!). Split peas come to the fore in dhals, dips and, of course, pea and ham soup.

Did you know?

  • Snap-frozen within hours of picking, frozen peas get our vote for best frozen veg. Add them to soups, risottos, pasta sauces, frittatas and salads for a nutrition and flavour boost.
  • To pod fresh peas, split the pod open, remove ‘string’ and scrape out peas.
  • You can eat the pea shoots and tendrils, too.

Two Natural Ladies have a great interview with Sal Prothero from Whole Food Nutrition.

Originally Sal wanted to be a racing driver or jet pilot, but now as a university trained nutritionist she knows she has picked the right pathway

Vicki, Jo & Sal discuss Sal’s struggles with anxiety in her early years and her difficulty finding a way through it. Once Sal discovered nutrition and the role food plays in our mental health she knew this was what she wanted to do to help others who are struggling.

But it wasn’t till her daughter, in year 8, started having her own issues around her mental health and the roller coaster ride they went on in the mental health system, that Sal realised there was a better way!

Where to go? Who will help? Medication?

Sal started treating her daughter, not with medication but with supplements and whole foods.

Sal has a keen interest in the brain's chemicals and her role is often to educate people that eating whole foods will make a difference to our health & wellbeing.

Sal is understanding and empathic with her client and recognises the importance of this when helping others. As Sal says, when you have been through it yourself it makes it easy to feel some understanding for others

Sal’s passion for gut health and eliminating (as much as possible) refined carbs and sugars in our diet. Two Natural Ladies find out Sal’s FIVE TOP NUTRIENTS and why?

Two Natural Ladies find out more about Sal’s own journey with mental strength and how important lifestyle; movement; personal development and mindfulness are for her.

Showing gratitude every day for what she has, again shows us what an exceptional woman Sal is. Everyone will see a bit of them in this podcast and find something to use in their day to day life.

Self Care: Why do we think we are not OK?

Two Natural Ladies read an excerpt from their book – Jo starts with a discussion about why we think we are not ok? We are always too fat, too shy, and not smart enough. Jo was quite confident except in their area of her weight. A legacy of her mum and her mum’s mum.

AN event in 2014 shifted Jo’s world forever and she questioned everything. Her confidence was shot to pieces!

“An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly” Unknown

Neuroplasticity: reprogramming our brains.

Are we the same personality throughout our life? Some believe we are basically the same personality unless we have a brain injury or major traumatic event. Was Jo’s incident something that changed her personality? Vicki feels she has changed over the years – but is her basic personality the same?

Self care includes making commitments – particularly when we are struggling. Just getting out of bed, having a shower, doing a load of washing can make a difference.

Vicki and Jo share their mental health journey – the things that worked and didn’t in creating mental strength

Vicki’s life events in her late teens led her to take, for a short time, some prescription drugs for her depression/anxiety around her parents separating and her split from her boyfriend. Vicki used half the medication recommended. Using the medication to give her a bit of relief and help her retrain her brain. Now Vicki would have used diet, exercise and community involvement to help her out of her funk

Sometimes we need a bit of relief And we are all different

Jo and Vicki hope some of this discussion resonates with you and in some small way assists you

The podcasts finishes with the reading of a Poem by Michael Raydan.

Being down and out,

Can seem never ending.

Where nothing is positive,

And doom is impending.

The lights all go out,

And clouds cover the sky.

Leaving us broken and torn,

Screaming why oh why.

This terrible phenomenon,

Is something we all will feel.

Over the course of our lives,

It feels so real.

But without this experience,

Without these times of sorrow.

We have nothing to contrast,

the positivity of tomorrow.

Without the clouds,

Covering the sky.

We can not appreciate,

When we see birds fly.

We cannot understand,

The true joy of the light.

If we have never, not once,

Been alone in the night.

So embrace the dark,

And welcome times of sorrow.

It’s what makes us human,

We are anything but hollow.

And remember this,

It’s the important one.

When you witness the magic,

Of life in the sun.

And in that moment,

You’re grateful for everyone.

It’s because you know,

Just what it’s like.

To be sad, to be hurt,

To feel life’s sharp bite.

Michael Raydan

Can Sustainability be Financially Lucrative?

Two Natural Ladies interview Meryl Sukumar from Subcintus Consulting on creating a Circular Economy

Meryl starts this interview by telling us an ancient Sufi story involving blind men and an elephant. One blind man thinks the elephant is a snake as he touches the trunk, another thinks it is a tree as he touches the elephant’s legs. The morale of the story: you need to get the whole picture - and this is what Meryl does with her systems approach.

These days it is important for businesses to reduce their risk profile through sustainability. 70% of people are more aligned with a business that is sustainable. They will spend more money with this business and will invest with companies that are people lead not stakeholder lead.

Meryl’s philosophy of creating a circular economy through:

Reducing: the businesses consumption in current operations

Reusing: some of the ‘waste’ in other ways

Up-cycle: using new technologies

Jo & Vicki discuss with Meryl traditional businesses, innovation, paradigm shifts and integrity.

A thought provoking and not to be missed interview.

Grey is the NEW blonde - Happy Birthday Vicki And HONEY is the word of the day

Two Natural Ladies have it handled. Jo & Vicki are going grey. No more colouring! After all they are Two NATURAL Ladies!

From there the discussion leads on to the world of bees and honey. Honey is used to create mead which was a popular drink in The Middle Ages. Vicki and Jo discover all the amazing health properties of this golden delight including antioxidants, heart health and wound healing. Jo shares her adventures with her grandson Jacob, collecting honey from a friends bee hive and her love for bees and their intelligence and ability to react to emotions Vicki asks: which is the best honey to buy? Locally sourced honey was one of the answers – so find a local bee keeper and make friends.

A poem is read about honey and bees from our resident poet.

Song credit – Happy Birthday by Altered Images

#Letsdoit321 Doing better not Perfect

Picking up three pieces of rubbish, enrolling two others to do the same, take one gorgeous picture for one beautiful planet. #Letsdoit321, Vicki and Jo’s passion to have the world take this on.

Having some fun while walking and picking up just three pieces every day. AND being better not perfect will mean some days you won’t – let’s all commit to going for it! Jo discusses her bravery in picking up cigarettes butts whilst cleaning the beach with Vicki, some of her family and Jo’s grandson Jacob. WE have to get them young – Jacobs and enthusiasm was delightful, to get Vicki’s teenage daughter B there took a bit but in the end she took it on and actively participated

We are all in this together – no one is not affected by our eco systems.

“WE don’t need a million people doing waste perfectly, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly” Anne-Marie Bonneau ‘Zero Waste Chef’ – Max commonly known as Mr Stroodle shared this quote on one of his videos- Jo saw it and shared it and then contacted Anne-Marie who has now been interviewed by Two Natural Ladies. Connections in the world of waste reduction and conservation – EXTRAORDINARY!

Mental Health Month October 2020: Depression: 10 Myth Busters

Two Natural ladies share Sal Prothero’s ten myth busters on depression. Sal a university trained nutritionist discusses these myths that can be so damaging to those of us dealing with depression.

MYTH *Depression is a sign of weakness! NO! Anyone at any time in their life can become depressed. Sometimes it is due to a particular trauma, which was the case for Jo. Or for no apparent reasons we start to feel ‘down’ which leads to isolating ourselves, poor diet, lack of exercise.

Getting kids to eat well can be a struggle. Jo finds creative ways with her grandson Jacob- put peanut butter on the celery, carrot – all vegies and then he will eat it

MYTH *Depression isn’t real – its all in our head! Really? Of course its real just ask the millions of people who deal with this daily. Women seem to be willing to talk about their depression more than men. The suicide rate for men is much higher than women – we must support our men in speaking up. And changing just one small thing can make a difference. Walking around the block every day, going out for a coffee, listening to an uplifting song, reading an uplifting quote – just one little change can make a difference.

People hid their depression and can be seen as lazy when they cannot get out of bed. We get tired and don’t want to talk to anyone.

Being real, being vulnerable allows everyone the opportunity to share their story. We are all human.

Bravery and Courage through adversity

“Encountering adversity ultimately deepens us and gives us access to inner strength” Eckhart Tolle Two Natural Ladies discuss some of the everyday struggles we all face.

“Marriage is hard, Divorce is hard - Life can be hard –so choose your hard”

And though we are alone we are all in this together. Without the dark there is no light. Vicki and Jo acknowledge how blessed they are to have interviewed so many everyday heroes, who in a small or big way are making a difference. Jo quotes the Tao of Pooh, the wisest of bears. ***

Small steps to creating new habits, using an accountability partner: the Two Natural ladies crack the whip on each other. Create a support group, find a community. Diet and exercise is important and as the Longevity film and the Blue Zones show, community is number one when it comes to peoples health and wellbeing and living a long life. Jo & Vicki have used their friendship and partnership to support each other throughout Co-Vid. Keeping connected to various communities and finding ways for their business together to flow. Helping each other stay motivated. Food: what was the truth 20 years ago is not so today. What works for one person does not automatically work for everyone. Having breakfast is not the answer for everyone. Eating fruit in the morning may be a better option for some or fasting?

Well-oiled machine Starting with some gratitude for the family, Two Natural Ladies discuss endorphins when gardening the wonder of worms (Eww Yuk) and a wonderful Corona virus poem from Pam Eyres. This leads to a discussion about control and the feeling of no control – how did Nelson Mandela do it for over twenty years of incarceration? Vicki confesses. Gratitude: Michael Mosley’s show going back in time, with a group of people living in the London slums of the 1800’s, we all have a better life in Australia than they did! Memories of Two Natural Ladies adventures in the UK in September 2019 The unexpected experiences and feeling so welcomed.

Visiting the Clapham church, where our hosts worship, the history and the oldness of the UK was very striking for both Jo & Vicki. WW11 was also quite prevalent throughout London and suburbs. Seeing the change in housing where the bombs hit impacted both women.

6 days up at 7am off to our favourite café Gails, 16,000 steps per day on average. Tower of London, finding London Bridge all new discoveries and learning Oxford; and incredible, beautiful place that Buckingham Palace – a quick reciting from AA Milne The Cotswolds and the Downtown Abbey village Brampton, then the tale of Woodstock (now there’s a funny story of wrong identity)

Letter writing, particularly when overseas- a dying art? Vicki and Jo continued to pick up rubbish during their time away An in-depth discussion about change and being able to adapt Networking meetings and the connections made during that time. Op shop discoveries and sustainable innovations and much much more.

Join us at Natalie Isaacs talks about her journey into the world of sustainability. “I’m just one person how can I make a difference” stopped her for many years. In 2006 when Natalie decided to decrease her electricity consumption by 20% a light bulb went on and "1 Million Women" was created

Without much understanding of business plans and what exactly to do, within a year Natalie had 46,000 people in her group.

Communication is to empower, mindful of their language to uplift

Discussion on food waste: For every five bags of food we bring into the house, on average one bag is thrown into the bin.

Dangerous methane gases are formed when food is thrown away.

Vicki & Jo & Natalie talk about the Journey of food, using left overs, not over cooking, buying less and then giving the left overs to the worms and the dogs. AND this helps our hip pocket

Natalie’s Number One recommendation: FALL MADLY DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH THE EARTH!
