A podcast where we are authentically ourselves and curiously exploring nutrition, fitness, mindset, wellness, and beyond. Hosted by @parastoobadie
In this episode, I reconnect with an old friend and two-time Olympian, Mirela "Mimi" Rahneva.
Known for her fearless approach to skeleton racing—hurling headfirst down ice tracks at 130 km/h—Mirela built an incredible career, earning three Crystal Globes, 15 World Cup medals, and a historic bronze at the IBSF World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
She also competed at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she finished 5th.
But beyond the medals and records, we dive into her personal story: the mental demands of high-performance sport, the sacrifices behind the success, and the tough transition into life after competition. Mimi shares the identity struggles of retirement, the financial barriers in elite athletics, and the mindset shifts that carried her through it all.
We also explore:
✅ How she discovered skeleton racing after a career in national-level rugby
✅ The power of visualization and mental performance in elite sport
✅ Her work with Fast and Female, Classroom Champions, and KidSport Calgary
✅ What it really takes to sustain a long career in high-performance sport
✅ Navigating the fear and uncertainty of starting over
Whether you're an athlete, coach, or anyone facing big life transitions, Mirela’s journey is packed with insights on resilience, reinvention, and embracing the unknown.

Guest Marsha Vanwynsberghe shares her journey from kinesiologist to master NLP trainer and teaches us the power of radical responsibility, owning our choices, and harnessing our subconscious mind for lasting behavior change.• Our subconscious mind runs 95% of our programming, mostly formed before age 8• We have 60,000-80,000 thoughts daily, with 80-90% repeating and 90% of those being negative• Taking radical responsibility means owning your decisions regardless of circumstances• Your limiting beliefs aren't the floor – they become the ceiling of what's possible• When setting goals, ask yourself "Do I truly believe this is possible?" to identify subconscious resistance• Identity work requires embodying the person who already has what you want• Long-term change happens when you align your conscious goals with subconscious programming• Raising your baseline through consistent work creates faster bounce-back from setbacks• The thing that you think disqualifies you is often what qualifies you to do meaningful work• Your story today is not your forever story – transformation is always possibleTo connect with Marsha, learn more about her coaching, and to find details of her podcast:

Welcome to A Slice of Humble Pie! In this first episode, I'm introducing the intention and the human behind this podcast. I'm Parastoo (aka P2), a Nutrition and Fitness Coach; I don't take myself too seriously but I take what I do very seriously. I am committed to being a student for life and get weird calling myself an expert. I often get served (or serve myself) some humble pie. In this podcast, I'll be sharing my lessons and sometimes chatting with actual experts about exercise, sports, nutrition, mental health, mindset, wellness, and more.
Thank you for tuning in and for sharing this with your peers! Please contact me to suggest ideas for future topics or to share times you ate (or were served) a slice of humble pie too. Also, please note that only constructive and respectful emails and messages are welcome. We're human and sometimes we get things wrong. Let's show up, stumble forward, and get better together!
