Knit Now, Issue 20, April 2013, Designer Baby Knits Supplement
Does anyone have a copy of this or the Debbie Bliss shawl/blanket pattern that was in it?
Many thanks
So, there’s been no posts here in a while and I’m just sat here wondering… is it a dead group or did you just run out of conversation starters? Me? I’m a complete chatterbox and knit now is my preferred magazine as it’s got such a big variety of patterns rather than one specific style. I am mainly a lace knitter, but I have a 6 year old so I tend to do lots of different styles. She’s learning to knit too so I may teach her to make some of these toys… if she ever sits down and works more than three stitches at a time (She has severe ADHD, she does not sit well :P) So if you’re just missing conversation starters we can revive the group, but if it’s dead then… I’m sad… Don’t be dead.
So things to chat about:
Is this group dead?
Who is still active?
Why do you like knit now?
Random interesting tidbit?
Hi,
I’m looking for some help with doing the Lightwater Shawl from issue 64. I kept the kit when it was released as I wanted to do it but as I had just started knitting I wasn’t up to it and hoped to build up to it at some point.
I realise my question will probably be an easy one to answer but I’ve never come across the problem before, even though I have done a lacy shawl.
It’s to do with knitting the tension square. It says it’s “measured over pattern stitch”. What does this mean with regard to this pattern as there are Patterns A,B,C and D?
I’ve only ever done a tension square in stocking stitch or done a pattern where the tension doesn’t matter.
I hope someone can help me as I really want to tackle this pattern now. Every time I do a new project I try to do a new pattern or technique to increase my knowledge.
I used go to my Husband’s Gran for help as she had 80 odd years experience but she sadly passed away a few years ago.
Thanks in advance.
Thought the free gifts advertised looked familiar - the ‘build your basics’ booklet was included with Knit Now issue 98 (so, not that long ago & with the same magazine) and I’m sure I’ve had one of those slide-calculators before?
Errata for
217-1 Mistletoe Muse pattern by DROPS design:in size XL, the instructions for the increases just before the lower border ribbing are incorrect. They should read …..k6 m1 27 times, not 13 times. I did the calculations, and am confident this is now correct. These errata are for the pattern as printed in Knit Now. I haven’t checked the pattern on the Drops website, nor have I checked the instructions for the other sizes.
Am I blind or am I the only one whose issue hasn’t got the patterns for the Christmas things in.
Hi! Wondering if someone who still has a copy of issue 81 could look at the jester stocking pattern in it, which was originally published in a book, and tell me the name and author of the knitting book it was from please?
I have cleared out this issue in one of my periodic declutters and now I want to knit that stocking! Hoping I can borrow the book from my local library, but I need the author / title to be able to search for it.
Thanks anyone who can help!
Ps issue 81 has a lady in a purple cardi on the front, and the stocking, which is blue striped, is on the cover too.
Thought I’d post here before going through every issue- there was a dragon hot water bottle cover in one of the earlier issues, but I can’t find it. Does anyone else remember it, please?
Have just received my subscription gift - 6 balls of WYS yarn - really nice!
Although these are intended for the KAL in the magazine, I think mine will become a stripy jumper instead…
I do love Knit Now, and have every edition since number one…I would just like to see a huge reduction in the amount of plastic used to send my subscription copy - the magazine is in a plastic bag, and then it’s put inside another plastic bag to send it to me!
I also get The Knitter, which comes in a paper envelope. I know they don’t do free gifts, but is there any way of reducing the wasteful amount of plastic each month - it does make me shudder!
Does anybody recognize these? I made them from the free yarn kit, from the pattern selection in the issue that the kit came with. I would really like to put the pattern up on Ravelry.
Hi All
Saw this wrap on instagram some time ago and had been waiting for it to appear on here to get some more info. It hasn’t yet been I have managed to obtain a copy of the magazine during these “strange’ times.
Whilst I see the yarn is an aran weight I do like the effect it gives so went off to see how much the actual yarn would stretch the budget. It asks for Louisa Harding Scintille. I have had several searches now and as yet have been unable to find it available in the UK.
Has anyone seen it? Was it ever available in the UK? Has it been discontinued? Its only the mag from February I know everything is planned a long way ahead but seems like a short life span for the yarn if it has.
It the absence of any info on the actual yarn has anyone knitted it what did you use or anyone got any yarn sub suggestions. It says it is Aran 49% acrylic 39% polyester metallic and 12% wool.
Thanks in advance
Love the cover jumper - but couple of queries (not about the cover jumper):
Firstly, the bag with the magazine in says ‘unmissable! Free Yarn for every reader - minimum spend applies’ but I can’t find the page with the details of this offer?
Secondly, the ‘Heany’ jumper on page 55 looks like the pattern has purl-on-right-side - at least for the white part of the pattern - but the chart is all given as stocking stitch? The garment isn’t shown in sufficient close-up to see if the blue triangles are also textured, and whether that’s the first or second row of each colour that you would do that way round?
Thanks
A couple of nice patterns in the main mag, but I found the Knitmas festive makes supplement disappointing.
It says 36 festive makes - 25 of them are the same mini mitten pattern, (some with stripes, some plain) with a different number on each to make an advent calendar. I think calling that 25 different makes is pushing it. After all, if you only make six it is not a complete advent calendar. An advent calendar needs 24 or 25 things or it is pointless, so it is a thing in itself, not 25 different patterns. Very misleading.
My copy of the new issue arrived this morning - wow! There are some absolutely gorgeous patterns this month!
I know that subscriptions are handled by another company but I am about to pull my own hair out.
I have subscribed since issue 1. I phoned to carry on my subscription and was told that the free gift of needles was on the internet. I asked when my subscription finished and was told beginning of August.
After six phonecalls, twelve back and fro emails I have now missed two magazines. One has been posted and I have just rung about my missing latest edition. They are now saying they have cancelled my subscription but I have a letter confirming my free gift. I get a different person in every communication.
Fed up with this is not the word.
Hi folks
Hoping someone can help me. Am knitting the daylight cardigan from issue 38 by Ruth Garcia Alcantud. There does not seem to be any directions for seaming the shoulders? Can someone advise me on how to do this? I’m presuming I have to seam the shoulders before I pick up the armhole stitches to knit the sleeves in the round. Excuse my ignorance I’m beginner knitter. Many thanks
A tad confused… I bought KN last week but the wallchart I got with the christmas issue says it’s out today?
So happy to see Knit Now gone back to £6 99, don’t know why the 100 th edition was 7 99 but very happy it’s now more affordable. Fingers x it stays this price for a long while now.
There was a great article and tutorial about making mittens in an Issue of Knit Now. Have been looking through my back Issues and can’t find it. Think it was in an Issue in the last year or so.
Does anybody know the Issue number that had the article about mittens in it please?
Thanks so much.
Bought latest Knit now and got a,shock at the cost increase again, now £7 99, I love to have a knitting mag to holdmrather than online but am afraid this is my last as it’s much too expensive now, I found, the extra £1 hard but now another £1 it’s bye bye from me. We don’t have a lot to live on monthly so can not justify paying this, very saddened.
