The Gospel is not about become a better version of the old you. It is about recognizing that the old you died with Jesus. You grow, not by trying hard to become someone different. Growth occurs as you recognizing that you already became someone different the moment you received Christ!

We all have mental strongholds which are ways of thinking that do not line up with God’s truth. Our success in continuing to learn to walk in freedom and grow in maturity is dependent on our ability to recognize lies and renew our minds with God’s truth. The foundation of our “Freedom in Christ” is understanding our new identity. Jesus does not make us a better version of our old self; but completely new.
