"I'm looking forward to the future, and feeling grateful for the past." - Mike Rowe, American Television Host and Narrator
There's no doubt that the past is full of important lessons we can learn and grow from, yet we all need things to look forward to. That's what this podcast is about.
Listen in as Kat Rodgers talks with the BWN Committee about programming for 2022, the things they're loving right now, and get to know these great women who are "changing the world" as they answer some fun and meaningful ice-breaker questions.
Looking forward to this year with you, the Brookfield Women’s Network!
Personal Safety for Women provides a ton of information for keeping safe from physical harm and offers ways that men can help women stay safe.
Although a serious topic, there's laughter throughout as Host, Kat Rodgers, talks with Deb deWaal from Calgary-based Safe & Sound Safety Training and Consulting. Deb spent 10 years of her career as a Calgary police officer, many of which were spent as a uniformed officer on the street, with three years of undercover work in auto theft, stolen property, and vice. Since 1995, Deb develops and facilitates Mental Toughness, Personal Safety and Conflict Management training to Canadians. Deb is also a licensed Private Investigator in Alberta.
Joining in on the conversation, and imparting some great tips and even more fun, are our very own Julie Moore, Rebecca Rodgers, and Sarah Kellow. Listen to the end when they, and Deb, share their personal stories and fun facts!
In Equity, Equality and Male Allies, the conversation gets real as Host, Kat Rodgers, chats with guests, Karlee Anton, Trent Edwards, and Brandon Sharp.
This episode furthers the "start with yourself" component of the previous episode - how looking inward first is critical to growing gender equity within the organization.
Here we dig a little deeper into the meaning of the term "male allies", as well as the difference between equity and equality. We learn a current and jarring Canadian earnings statistic indicative of gender inequity and inequality and we talk about case studies highlighting the inequities.
Conversation flows towards Brookfield's opportunities to enhance gender diversification in leadership (and likely improve its chance of increasing financial returns as a result), male privilege and allyship, how women can help women, spheres of influence to instigate and sustain positive change...and much more.
Because the fun facts segment was a hit in the previous podcast episode, we've included it here, too. Stick around to hear Karlee's, Trent's and Brandon's fun facts!
In Start With Yourself, the conversation easily flows as Host, Kat Rodgers, chats with special guests, Sid Kerrigan, Scott Janis, Cynthia Bautista, and Sophie Gowsell. What a great blend of representation from both the Ontario and Alberta offices!
There's much to talk about regarding improvement, transformation, and growth, starting within each of us as individuals. Once this happens, the organization begins to benefit and impactful transformation starts radiating outward as recognized improvement and success.
This episode covers looking inward first, before/while transformation occurs. We can all agree that transformation can often be challenging as we first admit certain shortcomings within ourselves or the organization. Yet, we continue to connect, educate, and empower while we help bring the organization to successful outcomes. This guest group recounts some of the positive changes made within Brookfield during their time here and discusses the opportunities male allies have to influence progress toward equality for women in the workplace.
Don't miss the chance to learn some fun facts about the podcast guests at the end of the episode!
In this inaugural episode, host Katarina Rodgers speaks with special guests Brookfield Women's Network (BWN) Canada Chair, Heather Harris, and executive sponsor, Margaret Wu.
You're sure to enjoy the conversation about the benefits of the BWN for all team members, the importance of community, knowing what you need and communicating it, the value of safe spaces, how to use Gallup’s StrengthsFinder to understand and grow your personal brand and so much more!
