Nathan talks to us about Smart Scheduling, what it is and why it is important for patient outcomes and practice success. Smart scheduling seems to be a buzzword for medical software companies. Generally, it’s about automating some of the scheduling process, including patient communications. While automation can be helpful, at Eva Health we do not believe automating a calendar is enough. The “Cures Act” requires healthcare providers give patients access to all of the health information in their electronic medical records. The No Surprises Act included patient protections against large medical bills and now requires price transparency.
Both the 21st Century Cures Act and the No Surprises Act make sense. To provide complete patient centric care we must not only include the patient, but empower the patient in their health care journey with full access to all their health information. On today's episode 'Writing Notes & Physician Burnout' we discuss our recent blog post 'Writing Notes'. Charting, writing notes, writing scripts, referrals and dealing with prior authorizations are all logistical pain points for everyone in a medical practice, but especially for independent providers who are also balancing the responsibilities of owning their practice. Why are these tasks STILL daunting, and terribly time-consuming with so much technology at our fingertips?Unfortunately, most EHR’s were developed without input from clinical professionals so instead, these systems mimic the workflow of accountants and insurance administrators. That’s why their user interface is cumbersome, difficult to navigate and nearly impossible to customize. These systems cause providers to lose faith in their ability to balance patient care with timely documentation. So, instead of creating notes to maximize quality of care, providers provide documentation for reimbursement and risk management. Ultimately, the medical record becomes less and less valuable when executed for the wrong reasons. All this playing a major role in physician burnout and the breakdown of the provider patient relationship.
