Wild Walley began September with a visit to C-TEC and their Career Signing Day event. Participating seniors transition into their chosen trade while completing their studies. While at the event, Walley spoke with Newark Mayor Jeff Hall, and State Rep Thad Claggett, and others about this important workforce development effort.

There is a new route for Newark’s Labor Day Parade this year. Dusty Dunn talks to David McElfresh about these changes. The parade will take place Monday, September 4th at noon. The line for the parade will form at 10am at the parking lot corner of Walnut and South 3rd Street. The parade will then head North on 3rd Street to Hudson Avenue to USW Hall at 350 Hudson Avenue where the parade ends, and food will be provided. Happy Labor Day, rain or shine.

Week 1 of the 2023 Season is in the books and for the first episode of The Licking County Locker Room, host Brian Maze sat down with Granville Head Coach Wes Schroeder and two of his top seniors. The program was recorded at Shipp Brothers Brewing in downtown Newark.
The Licking/Knox Goodwill Pony Express Horseback Riding Program. Goodwill is very excited about being able to offer this beneficial program for children and young adults (ages 5-21) with disabilities in Licking and Knox Counties. Riding is an excellent form of recreation and socialization and helps to develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-discipline. Riding sessions will be held from Sept. 19 to Oct. 24 on Tuesday evenings, from 6-7 p.m. at Magic Meadows Stable in Heath, Ohio. Participant registration is full, but still looking for volunteers to help.

The Red Cross is hosting a summer blood drive in remembrance of Matthew Offers, Jr.
Matthew's life had been extended thanks to generous blood donations from donors around the state. Now the Offers family wants to pay it back with support from the Red Cross by making sure shelves are stocked with blood ready to be used. WCLT's Braden "Scoop" Steinman talks with Rod Cook from the Red Cross Association about the blood drive in this new edition of the Vibe Podcast.
Coming August 5th to the Perry County fairgrounds is Fido Fest supporting local shelter dogs. This day-long event features a car show, live music, and raffle drawings for prizes and more. All proceeds go to the local shelters to purchase dog food, water, beds, medicine, etc. Perry County Dog Warden Kerrie Taylor discusses Fido Fest with WCLT's Braden Steinman.
The Licking Memorial Health Foundation is hosting a 5K July 22nd for the community to attend. The event can be run, or walked, and also features a one mile fun walk for those just looking to enjoy the outing at the Dawes Arboreum. The goal of the 5K is to help educate the community on maintaining good health, and encouraging healthy activities. WCLT's Braden Steinman talks with Robert Montagnese about the event.

The Licking County Humane Society had their largest rescue to date! On Friday, their humane agent brought in 80 dogs and puppies from a single residence in Newark. The ages span from 12 years old all the way down to just day's old nursing pups. Most of them were covered in fleas and need quite a lot of medical intervention.

On this edition of "The Vibe," we talk with Linda Nicodemus of the South Licking Watershed Conservancy District and Kristy Hawthorne from the Soil and Water Conservation District about the Conservancy's current project to establish maintenance priorities. Proper maintenance can mitigate the impact of flooding and infrastructure damage. There are close to 60,000 property lots in the District which gives you some idea of the impact of this work. Even if you're not a property owner, the quality of your drinking water is also at stake.
