A spiritual guide to relationships. We are reading through a book as a couple, we read a bit and talk about how we used these principles in our relationship. Sit back and join our journey through the mountains of falling in love.
In early times custom required the bridegroom, before the ratification of a marriage engagement, to pay a sum of money or its equivalent in other property, to the father of his wife.
A wise father said “I intend to apprentice them to their excellent mother, that they may learn the art of improving time, and be fitted to become wives and mothers, heads of families and useful members of society.”
Having a purpose in life and finding joy in systematic work is a blessing, learning to love activity. The habit of enjoying useful labor, once formed, will never be lost.
In the study of hygiene the earnest teacher will improve every opportunity to show the necessity of perfect cleanliness both in personal habits and in all one’s surroundings
God has trusted us with a home, it is our obligation to care for what he has given you.
Many ladies, accounted well-educated, having graduated with honors at some institution of learning, are shamefully ignorant of the practical duties of life
Mr. A has a nature that satan plays upon with wonderful success. His wife followed feeling and impulse, not reason and judgment, in selecting a companion. God, heavens Match Maker!
It should henceforth be the life study of both husband and wife how to avoid everything that creates contention and to keep unbroken the marriage vows.
The world is full of misery and sin today in consequence of ill-assorted marriages. Compatibility is the key to heaven here on earth or hell on earth.
Satin ensnares youth before they realize it and they can't get out of it. Rachel reads a meme about unhealthy attachments are formed by casual sex. We elaborate with hand holding and kissing.
Youth should consult others before entering into a union. Your choice in partner will affect whether or not you are saved. Be a tool in God's toolbox.
Discussing the adjustments between adolescent and adulthood. And how maturity makes you realize what's important.
Honor thy parents. Better to not marry if you do not consult your parents or God about a spouse. Parents should not be selfish when choosing a spouse for their children. There's a far reaching effect that a happy or unhappy marriage has.
Let the love of truth, purity and goodness be early implanted in the soul. Your upbringing shapes who you grow up to be, ask your parents who know you best, for their opinions.
There should be no interference in the love experience. A calm, careful weighing of the matter on both sides is essential
Perhaps there are those around them who realize that, should the parties interested be united in marriage, it could only result in lifelong unhappiness.
If men and women are in the habit of praying twice a day before they contemplate marriage, they should pray four times a day when such a step is anticipated.
Chapter 10—When Counsel is Needed
If there is any subject that should be considered with calm reason and unimpassioned judgment, it is the subject of marriage.
We want to apologize we got a few of these mixed up when we uploaded them. So we are going back in the book about half a chapter and will get caught back up with the last one "When Infatuation is Deaf to Counsel".
He who has entered the marriage relation while unconverted is by his conver-
sion placed under stronger obligation to be faithful to his companion...
Perhaps there are those around them who realize that, should the parties interested be united in marriage, it could only result in life long unhappiness.
Only in her Saviour can the wife find wisdom, strength, and grace to meet the cares, responsibilities, and sorrows of life.
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” “If two of you shall agree on earth as touch- ing any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven.”
“You married me, knowing that I was what I am; I do not wish to be disturbed. From henceforth let it be understood that conversation upon your peculiar views is to be interdicted.”
Although the better judgment of the believer may suggest the impropriety of a union for life with an unbeliever, yet, in nine cases out of ten, inclination triumphs.
Satan well knew the results that would attend obedience; and during the earlier years of Solomon’s reign—years glorious because of the wisdom, the beneficence and the uprightness of the king— he sought to bring in influences that would insidiously undermine Solomon’s loyalty to principle and cause him to separate from God.
If the Bible left these questions in a vague, uncertain light, then the course that many
youth of today are pursuing in their attachments for one another would be more excusable.
“Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.”
Chapter 9-Forbidden Marriages. There is in the Christian world an astonishing, alarming indifference to the teaching of God’s word in regard to the marriage of Christians with unbeliev- ers.
A little time spent in sowing your wild oats, dear young friends, will produce a crop that will embitter your whole life; an hour of thoughtlessness, once yielding to temptation, may turn the whole current of your life in the wrong direction.
When once the barriers of female modesty are removed, the basest licentiousness does not appear exceeding sinful.
Through secret communications and meetings he may
gain an influence over her mind, but in so doing he fails to manifest
that nobility and integrity of soul which every child of God will possess.
These untimely hours injure health, unfit the mind for the next
day’s duties, and have an appearance of evil.
Chapter 8 Not one word should be spoken, not one action performed, that you would not be willing the holy angels should look upon and register in the books above.
Imagination, lovesick sentimentalism, should be guarded against as would be the leprosy. Very many of the young men and women in this age of the world are lacking in virtue; therefore great caution is needed.... Those who have preserved a virtuous character, although they may lack in other desirable qualities, may be of real moral worth.
Turn your mind away from romantic projects. You mingle with
your religion a romantic, lovesick sentimentalism, which does not elevate, but only lowers.
Love ... is not unreasonable; it
is not blind. It is pure and holy. But the passion of the natural
heart is another thing altogether.
Chapter 7 True Love or Infatuation.Love is a precious gift, which we receive from Jesus. Pure and holy affection is not a feeling, but a principle. Those who are actuated by true love are neither unreasonable nor blind.
Even if an engagement has been entered into without a full understanding of the character of the one with whom you intend to unite, do not think that the en- gagement makes it a positive necessity for you to take upon yourself the marriage vow and link yourself for life to one whom you cannot love and respect.
Shun those who are irreverent. Shun one who is a lover of idleness; shun the one who is a scoffer of hallowed things.
Why is it that being married can be the most amazing decision we can make and hell on earth.
We go back over the last chapter and dig deeper into what Ellen White says in the Great Decision.
Let a young woman accept as a life companion only one who possesses pure, manly traits of character, one who is diligent, aspiring, and honest, one who loves and fears God.
Before giving her hand in marriage, every woman should inquire whether he with whom she is about to unite her destiny is worthy.
Let a young man seek one to stand by his side who is fitted to bear her share of life’s burdens, one whose influence will ennoble and refine him, and who will make him happy in her love.
Weigh every sentiment, and watch every development of char- acter in the one with whom you think to link your life destiny. The step you are about to take is one of the most important in your life, and should not be taken hastily. While you may love, do not love blindly.
Too often the kindly, encouraging word, the cheery smile, are withheld from our children and from the oppressed and discouraged.
A well-ordered Christian household is a powerful argument in the favor of the reality of the Christian religion.
It is impossible for any of us to live in such a way that we shall not cast an influence in the world.
God-fearing parents will diffuse an influence from their own home circle to that of others that will act as did the leaven that was hid in three measures of meal.
One well-ordered, well-disciplined family tells more in behalf of Christianity than all he sermons that can be preached.
Chapter 4 The angel of God will often visit the home in which the will of God bears sway.
God is displeased with disorder and slackness and a lack of thoroughness.
Excuse the dog (Evie) snoring in the background 😁
"Neatness and order are indispensable to the proper management of the household, but when the mother makes these the all important duties of her life and devotes herself to them to the neglect of the physical development and mental and moral training of her children she makes a sad mistake."
"Parents should realize their accountability to keep their home free from every taint of moral evil." Ellen White
