The Aries Lunar Cycle, which begins tonight at 11:24p PDT/2:24a EDT, brings a potent energy shift from the dreamy depths of Pisces into the raw determination of Aries. While we may feel safer “hiding” under the waters (or blankets) of Pisces, Aries forces us to be RAW-THENTIC, as my friend, Melinda, and one of my favorite Aries suns, likes to say – we’re raw, authentic, and ready to face the world with the light of the sun shining on our face. This new infusion of life, light, and warmth can spring us into planting new seeds, seeds to grow our best selves, IF we’re willing to focus our attention on where it needs to go.

One of the things I love so much about astrology is that while we can’t totally predict the future, we can certainly anticipate the energy of what’s coming in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

And as I look at the days, weeks, and months ahead, I see that Neptune is going to be a major player all year long. Last year we had our eyes on the Pluto/Eris and Saturn/Uranus squares. This year, Neptune is in the proverbial spotlight, especially this spring.

We have reached a turning point in the fracturing between the old and the new, the limiting and the expansive, and at our very core, fear and love. This week and the New Moon in Pisces at 9:34a PST on March 2, 2022, come with some extraordinary vital energy that potently ushers in the New Earth paradigm.

Here are the top ten (10) things you need to know for this New Moon:

Beauty! Last month I had the privilege of interviewing the beautiful Jane Mayer for the latest episode of Divinely Inspired. Jane inspires me so much; she is a young, feminine wisdom carrier from multiple lineages of the past, present and future. It’s such a pleasure to introduce Jane to all of you!

Jane Mayer is a singer/songwriter, poet, storyteller and multidimensional guide to the shamanic realms – she is a multidimensional sound channel for the heart of the human experience. Her transmissions weave rhythms from the heart of the Earth, the harmonies of the Deep South where she was born, and the cosmic hums of the mystic Holy One. She offers teachings, retreats, sessions, and sacred ceremonies around the world.

This coming week brings us a Full Moon in Leo to remember, not only for its own potency but also for the collective energy of the cosmos.

The Full Moon in Leo, on February 16, is all about self-expression — expressing our Divine Truths. Self-expression can manifest in so many different ways. We can create art, music, romance, pleasure, poetry, love… The possibilities are infinite.

I’ve been looking forward to the astrology of February and March for the last 5 months. I’ve been anticipating these magical days like a child awaiting snow or Christmas or their birthday because I saw that it was going to be an extraordinary time.

And here we are!! Yippee!!

Beauty! I’m currently hiding away from society, in the dark of the moon, awaiting the seed of the New Moon to be revealed. I feel like the moon herself, about to come to light, and wanted to share some thoughts through the written word versus my usual videos.

This New Moon in Aquarius on January 31, 2022 at 9:46p PST lays the foundation for what’s to come over the next several months. Each New Moon in 2022 will ask us to choose a path, like one initiation after another on our hero’s journey towards the New Earth.

Hello, loves! I wanted to let you know that I’m not putting out an astrology video this week. As I mentioned in my note on Monday, I have surrendered to my need to rest and recalibrate, and to have faith that the Universe will provide not just for me, but for all of us. REST is not a 4-letter word. Well, I know it has 4 letters, but you know what I mean!

Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing Patty Lennon for the latest episode of Divinely Inspired. Patty is a best-selling author, coach and renowned speaker, AND, she is also a love balm for the soul. I knew when I read her most recent book, Make Space for Magic, that I had to introduce you all to her, because her message is CRUCIAL for where we are at in the world right now. (More about this tomorrow.)

Beauties! How are you? The physical changes right now are so intense. Emotions are running high. And there is this sense of, will this ever end?!

The answer is a resounding YES. And that’s because Mother Earth is the boss. Anyone else who thinks they are the boss is sorely mistaken!

Earth energy is incredibly strong right now and gets stronger this week, as the North Node of Fate shifts back into Taurus, the same sign where Uranus will station direct. We are ever so aware of our physicality as humans. This body is a miracle, and it’s also a conduit of energy, meaning that we can often feel in our bodies what is happening out in the world at large. This is something they don’t teach in school or talk about on CNN, but it’s true, nonetheless.

View Details

Before I talk about the astrology in the video, I thought it very important to address the physical symptoms that so many people have been experiencing over the last week. There are two ways to look at what’s happening, and in some ways we have to see them both in order to choose the path on which we want to focus. On the one hand, there is a downright assault through frequency on our well-being. It’s easy to focus on this assault and the anger and fear it may activate within us.

And yet, if we can acknowledge these forces, and then further acknowledge that more powerful, loving forces exist, not just the love of Mother Earth, not just love within our universe, but throughout the galaxy and the cosmos, then we can tap into the magic and the healing of these loving forces.

Happy New Year! This New Moon in Capricorn on January 2, 2022, definitely feels like a new beginning. It’s an auspicious start to 2022. After last month’s New Moon eclipse in Sagittarius, this New Moon is about putting in the work – the teamwork – to live our love-filled purpose.

More than ever, we are being asked to tap into the energy of love in the most difficult situations (like being with family members who have polar opposite beliefs), even if that also means setting boundaries in our interactions with others. This week the waning moon moves from the last quarter square to her dark, “balsamic” phase, as the New Moon in Capricorn occurs on January 2. The energy of polarity is building and pressurizing.

What an intense time we are living in. The biggest question seems to be, how do we stay focused on light and love when there seems to be so much darkness in the world?

As I said last week, the cosmos are not taking a holiday during the holidays this year! This week between the Full Moon and the last quarter moon is really big. There are 4 big aspects that on their own, would make headlines.

Are you feeling the optimism in the air? Life may feel intense at times, but I’m seeing signs everywhere of love overtaking fear and scarcity.

Sometimes when times get tough, we’re tempted to constrict our hearts. It’s a challenge to keep our hearts open. It’s like when we’re cold and wrap our arms around ourselves to stay warm and protect ourselves from the cold. You may find yourself doing that emotionally and spiritually right now to protect yourself, where it takes effort to stay open to love, hope and trust. It’s always worth the effort!

Except for Tuesday, it’s a fairly quiet week through the first quarter moon on Friday. The energy is shifting… you may experience it as a see-saw, as autumn transitions into winter. Try not to let the weather or the astrology control your mood. Even when it’s cold and gray outside, we can still shine with warmth, love and vitality from the inside.

Unlike most New Moons, which invite us to initiate and call in, this New Moon in Sagittarius is a Total Solar Eclipse with the South Node, which encourages us to release and shed global ideologies and karma that don’t belong to us so that we can open our spirits instead to global love and healing. That might sound “woo woo” to some of you, but shedding the “victim” mentality can be incredibly healing and empowering.

How are you feeling (or reeling!) after the intensity of the last several weeks? Did you transform any feelings of paralysis into purpose with a little pluck? You may be feeling unsure which direction to take in your life, but don’t worry, we’ll start coming out of that energy around December 6. Be mindful of fixating on any dogma or the concept of “truth.”

I’m happy to report that this last week of the Scorpio Lunar Cycle is for the most part incredibly positive, especially given that Mars is the last personal planet remaining in Scorpio, and we are instead feeling the optimism and adventure of Sagittarius, where the Sun, Mercury and Vesta currently travel.

It’s eclipse season! Many people I spoke with felt the intensity of the Full Moon lunar eclipse on November 19 for several days before and after. We are all awakening in our own way. Unlike “regular” New Moons, which have more initiatory or beginning energy, the total solar eclipse on December 3/4 tells us that it is time to clean up – a spiritual housecleaning, if you will. We don’t have to carry those old, global wounds anymore like smelly boxes stored in the garage of our being. But how do we let go of something that feels so ingrained in our ancestry in order to make room for all of the light that wants to come in instead?

I’ll be answering this question and more during the New Moon in Sagittarius webinar on November 28 at 3p PST/6p EST.

The big event for this week is the Full Moon and partial Lunar Eclipse in Taurus on November 19 at 12:57a PST/3:57a EST/8:57a GMT. It may feel so intense that we feel paralyzed, as if we’re stuck in quicksand. However, because the Sun is in Scorpio with Mars and Mercury, we can transform that feeling of paralysis into purpose with a little pluck and a whole lotta forgiveness.

Beauties! We are transitioning for the next two weeks from the energy of relationship-focused Libra to dark and sultry Scorpio. For the most part, the energy slows down quite a bit, as if the Universe wants to cut us a break after all of the intensity of the first half of the Libra lunar cycle.

That said, we ARE moving into Scorpio season, which will be intense just because Scorpio loves intensity! Scorpio reminds us not to be afraid of the shadows but to face them head on in order to transform them into light.

It can be challenging to trust with so much discomfort and polarity in the world. Yet I urge you to trust in the Divine, Source, God, the cosmos, the Universe, whatever name you give to this magnificent pulse of love that unites all of our spirits, because it always has our back.

Can you feel the change in the air? With the Full Moon in Pisces on September 20/21, we are really feeling everything so deeply right now!

And then we’re also feeling the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Spring Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. No matter where you are located, we are definitely moving into a period of “fall”, as old paradigms die away, and the seeds for new ones have been planted. Like bulbs of daffodils and tulips, I imaging these new paradigms receiving love and nutrients from Mother Earth – and people like you and me -- in preparation for bursting through the soil in the spring.

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Pam Gregory, one of my favorite “astrologers” on the planet. I say “astrologer” in quotes because Pam does so much more than interpret the movements and relationships of the stars. There is very strong energy around breaking down unjust social paradigms that do not serve the highest good of Mother Earth and all her beings. In today’s world, standing in love and in our sovereign power is an act of sacred rebellion.

The New Moon occurs on September 6, 2021 at 5:52p PDT at 14°38’ of Virgo. This is a really lovely and juicy New Moon, and a potent lunar cycle for natural health, harvests, and creatively welcoming the change that comes from breakdowns and breakthroughs. Take stock of your proverbial and literal inventory. What tools do you have for healing, relationships and nourishment when chaos reigns?

View Details

Many in the US and other countries are being asked to choose between their education or their profession and their sovereignty right now. It feels like an impossible choice. Or is it? For some, it is the most important choice they’ll ever make. I send these beings so much love as they weigh – Venus and Mercury in Libra – the consequences of their decisions in their work (Sun and Mars in Virgo). The boundaries that matter most (Saturn) are the ones we create for ourselves.

The thing with sovereignty is, only you can decide what is right for you. That’s why I do these videos and audios. I want to empower you – also Pluto – to feel good in whatever you do, whatever choices you make, whatever your dreams and aspirations. I want you to know that the energy of the cosmos is here to support you, so that you can do in this world what you came here to do.

My dear friend, Ann, likes to say, work smarter, not harder. She is right! When we work with the natural rhythms of our body and the cosmos, we can help our body to become more efficient, so that we can then more easily bring our individual magic to the world.

Keep leaning into the light side of the Juicy Astrology – the LOVE and SERVICE sides – to keep yourself out of the rabbit hole of anger and fear. The more we shine our light together, the more we can overcome the shadows.

View Details

My heart is full of gratitude for the wisdom of the cosmos. There are a LOT of reasons to get frustrated by the 3D world right now. When people operate from a place of fear (which is really the root emotion of the energies such as control, authority, power, and greed), it can be really easy for the most spiritual soul to get sucked into their shadows and black holes.

If you have been ignoring the messages of your body to start paying attention to your health, then Uranus, Mercury and Mars this week could jolt you into a reality you don’t want to face. As the Sun moves into Virgo after the Full Moon for the Autumnal Equinox, we’ll feel a rush of inspiration to get organized so that we can indeed focus on our health.

View Details

This week, both Mercury and Venus will move into signs they rule, helping us to both ground and breathe into some of the otherwise challenging aspects this week through the 1st Quarter Moon. Mars, in particular, could catalyze conflict or action or both; however, while in Virgo, he is all about service, so if any fights ensue, tap into the Divine Feminine – through Mother Mary, Quan Yin, Sophia, or any other sacred feminine spirit -- to help you through it. There is some potential for violence all week, or you might be empowered to stand in your power on behalf of the Divine Feminine.

The supplement industry has seen astronomical growth this month. Why? Because people are frantically trying to avoid getting sick from a disease they are calling “COVID-19.”

The problem is, as I’ve written before, not only can purchasing supplements get expensive quickly, but worse, it can be challenging to know exactly what ingredients are in those supplements and where they came from.

There are four supplements you should never purchase without talking to me first, for the well-being of both your body and your wallet.

I'll never forget several years ago when my son, then four years old, got a case of croup that landed him in the emergency room. For whatever reason the virus had caused his airways to close up, and he could barely breathe.

I knew that when he got to the hospital, they would immediately hook him up to oxygen and give him a breathing treatment to help open his airways, and he would be ok.

However, when we got to the hospital, the emergency room physician started grilling me about my son's vaccination status.

It truly feels as if we are at war with ourselves. I can only imagine that this is what war must feel like, being told that everyone is the enemy. We are told to fragment away from each other like the tiny genetic strands of virus blamed for the mayhem. Who is infected? Contagious? Dangerous? Am I next?

The uncertainty and fear can be crushing, paralyzing. They attempt to asphyxiate. They demonize and polarize. They handcuff us to immobility. Don’t move. Don’t breathe. Be afraid. Go into the dark.

I refuse to stay in the dark.

Good things happen when we listen to our intuition. Sometimes , though, we are our own biggest obstacle to getting what we want. I’m going share a story with you about what happened when I got out of my head, out of my way and into my heart.

View Details

Perhaps one of my most life-altering intuitive moments came after I gave birth to my first child. Two days after she was born, a nurse came into my hospital room and told me that I needed to get the rubella (German measles) vaccine because I didn’t have immunity. She told me that if I wanted to have healthy babies in the future, then I needed to get the vaccine or risk major birth defects in future children.

At first I said no, but then something inside of me said I needed to do it. So I said yes. At the time I didn’t pay too much attention to my intuition, so it was unusual for me to listen.

I was driving down the highway a couple weeks ago when it was time for me to merge from the 2nd lane to the exit lane. I had a “weird” feeling inside but thought that it had to do with the annoying fact that I was stuck between the guy in front of me (who had just cut me off before he decided to drive slower than the speed limit) and the guy next to me, who was traveling at the exact speed as the guy in front of me. Gauging the differences between the cars around me and the speed of the general traffic, I decided it was best not to tailgate but rather slow down to get behind the car next to me so that I could get over.

Well, I didn’t really decide not to tailgate. It was as if a voice had said in my ear, “Don’t tailgate.”

I think I can say with good faith that I generally do not tailgate, because driving in the Bay Area has its crazy moments. My partner and I often talk about the fact that tailgating is a recipe for disaster when the traffic and drivers are so unpredictable.

In this moment, though, I had wanted to tailgate, because I was annoyed with the driver in front of me for cutting me off and then slowing down. That’s double rude, don’t you think?

But the voice was very stern in my ear. “Don’t tailgate.” Despite my annoyance, I slowed back and began to get over to the right. I have learned at this point of my life that “the voice” – that inner knowing, my intuition, or my “gut” – was protecting me, so I didn’t argue with it.

“Don’t tailgate,” the voice continued. I scanned the road in front of me, looking for any signs of trouble. Nothing, it was all good, but I kept my distance from the cars in front of me anyway as I made my way to the exit lane.

And then, as soon as I was in the exit lane, it happened. A 10 foot ladder came flying out of the pick-up truck in front of me. It bounced twice in the road before stopping in the middle of the lane. I swerved around another large piece of metal flying at me as I broke hard and then was able to get around the ladder, slowly, by driving in the shoulder.

My heart was pounding in my chest. I knew what could have happened if I hadn’t listened to that voice.

Had I ignored the voice and been tailgating that truck, or even keeping the recommended distance, that ladder would have struck my car or worse, it could have flown through my windshield and injured or killed me.

When things like this happen – when I get warnings or messages – I often attribute them to my guardian angel looking out for me. Some people might call it “intuition” or simply their “gut.”

While animals are often praised for their instincts and intuition, our culture of “science” doesn’t always give humans the same credit. When we tap into our inner voice, especially in health care, some people call it “woo woo” or “quackery” and don’t take it seriously.

When we shut that voice out, we do ourselves a disservice. There are times when getting out of our heads and feeling into the situation are going to serve us far better than any “data point” or “evidence” might. That voice is there for a reason!

Has there been a time when you listened to your angels, your gut, your inner voice, and it kept you or a loved one safe? I’d love it if you’d comment below to tell your story.

In my next blog, I’ll share you how listening to my intuition helped to protect my babies from their own potential brush with disaster.

Lots of love,

Jennifer

I did not get a cold or the flu this winter, despite being surrounded by snotty noses and some nasty coughs. (In my humble opinion, the flu vaccine is not the answer to health and well-being, let alone preventing illness. You can read more about my thoughts on the flu vaccine here.)

This is the first year in a long time that I didn’t come down with a cold or other upper respiratory bug. Last year wasn’t bad— I had one day where I felt absolutely miserable with aches and chills, spent that day in bed and woke up the next day with a mild cold that stuck with me for a week. This year though, my immune system was able to hold it together. Here’s what worked for me — and what I paid in $$ for it.

I can get really shortsighted when it comes to my own health. I’ll admit that. If you’ve ever heard the expression Healer, Heal Thyself, I can tell you that most of us health care practitioners are pretty bad at healing ourselves. I am no exception. I’m really good at guiding people towards the products and people they need to get well and to get on the path to optimal health, but for myself? Yeah, not so good. And I’ve learned that the hard way.

This is not to say I haven’t tried many times to go it alone, but it has never served me. What I’ve found is that I do much better and am able to accomplish my goals when I have another expert guiding me. I’m also better able to stick to the plan when I have a group where we can cheer each other on and support each other. We are, after all, human beings who thrive on connection with one another.

I’ve noticed over the years that there are lots of similarities between moms and nurses.

Both are caring and nurturing. Both rely on a gentle touch to bring warmth and comfort. Both want to minimize suffering, whether from a skinned knee, school bully, cancer, or complicated surgery.

There is one similarity between moms and nurses that I want to address today, because I’d like to see it change. It doesn’t serve any of us.

When I was young, every time a local child came down with chickenpox my mother would drag me to their house so that I would get exposed and get chickenpox myself. As a nurse, she knew that chickenpox was a benign illness for children but had the potential to be much worse for an adult.

Unfortunately my mother was unsuccessful in convincing my body to come down with chickenpox. Not until 2009 as a grown woman in the middle of anatomy finals, with three small children, did I finally come down with chickenpox.

I remember what it was like to be staunchly pro-vaccine. No exceptions.

I remember how I would vilify people who didn’t want to get vaccinated themselves or didn’t want to vaccinate their children. I made derogatory comments about them. I called them “stupid” and “irresponsible.” I said that not vaccinating was like blowing cigarette smoke in your baby’s face. It was like letting them go hungry, or depriving them of warmth and shelter.

And then one day, I found out that I was wrong.

Terribly, painfully wrong.

Amazingly, gratefully wrong.

Three major events changed my mind.

Do you ever wonder why they combine 3-6 diseases into one vaccine for babies and children?

The CDC says they give combination vaccines so the kids and parents have to endure less “stress” getting multiple shots. Do you think it’s really because they know how toxic each vaccine is, filled with chemicals and heavy metals?

The thing is, nature doesn’t work that way.  Nature doesn’t expose the immune system to multiple diseases at one time. Can you imagine if I took my infant or immune-compromised child to a home where there were active cases of measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox all at the same time?

My mood started lifting on the drive to Wunderlich County Park. I parked, put on my hiking boots and began my climb up the hill to my favorite spot, Alambique Flats.

I said hello to the horses in the corrals, waiting for the day’s riders, stood for a moment at an ancient majestic tree, and watched for deer. It wasn’t until I was sitting on the bench in the Flats listening to the creek that I realized something new about why I love hiking and being out in nature so much.

Sexual violence takes a huge toll on one’s health and well-being and also places a major burden on our health care system. This burden is not sustainable, and it’s time for each of us to stand up and put a stop to it. Even if you’ve been lucky enough not to have been a victim in your life, look around you. So often in our lives we think that we have to giving up pleasure to accomplish something, whether that's in our health, in relationships, or with our work.

What if there was another way? How good would it feel to make space for something or someone instead?

To me, giving up is about pain and deprivation. When we let go, however, we open ourselves and surrender to love and the possibility of transformation.

Here's a new video for you, where I explore the paradigms of giving up versus letting go. These are powerful concepts that can transform our lives, our loves, and the way we experience what challenges and frightens us.

From March 21 to 26, I spent 5 amazing days at the Chi Center in Galisteo, New Mexico. Gail Larsen, the Transformational Speaking teacher I met in 2015 and then worked with in 2016, had gathered together 24 thought leaders from the US, Canada, and Australia along with Andrew Harvey, leader of the Sacred Activism movement, and Wisdom Healing Qi Gong Master Mingtong Gu.

Our task?

To dive deep within ourselves personally and collectively to find our voice so that we can stop the downward spiral that our world is in — physically, environmentally, politically, spiritually.

Back in November, my trusted friend and colleague, Press Maycock, came to the VA to give a presentation to Veterans and staff on the food-mood connection.

Press shared information about foods that the doctors don’t provide to their patients. Maybe they don’t know, or maybe they don’t think it will make a difference, but either way, the docs and nutritionists almost never share 21st century, evidence-based nutritional information with their patients.

Press shared, and for one Vet in particular, he made a huge difference.

Gaaaa, that flu going around! I have been getting emails almost daily from people asking me how to get over it and what they should do to prevent it.

Western medicine’s only tools against the flu are not friendly to your body. Tamiflu is toxic to your liver, and the influenza vaccine may be toxic to your nervous system. PLUS their efficacy is questionable, to say the least, meaning most of the time, they really don’t work.

So how do I heal from the flu if I get it?

Common sense and earth-based medicine, of course.

Common sense and earth-based medicine, of course.

We have this weird attitude in our culture that it’s somehow shameful if we get sick with a cold or flu once in a while. I think I am sometimes guilty of perpetuating that belief in my zest for wanting people to feel amazing all the damn time, because life can be freaking incredible when our physical and emotional and mental and spiritual bodies are our allies rather than our enemies.

Now that we are into the full swing of 2018, it feels like life has turned up a notch. So many people live under constant pressure: work, family, society, traffic, bills, busyness, expectations … and, if all this were not enough, we then feel more pressure and stress simply because we are short on time.

In the last year, I have met dozens of health care providers  — from physicians to nurses to physical therapists — who are desperate to help people heal naturally but aren’t sure where to start. They are frustrated by the few options available in the conventional health care system and exhausted by the bureaucracy of “health” insurance paperwork.

That’s why I am committing 2018 to teaching others and sharing my knowledge and expertise.

Despite the darkness of the winter solstice, this is one of my favorite times of year, not only because I get to spend extra time with friends and family, but also because I gift myself several hours of solo meditation and writing time to let go of the year’s pains and challenges while creating my goals for the next year. Carving out this time for releasing and dreaming allows me to appreciate everything I have accomplished as well as come up with the baby steps — those daily little actions I need to take — to make my next year’s big goals come to fruition. It's a healing ritual to see what's working, what’s not working, and how to move forward from a place of love, joy, and abundance.

Looking back, it was actually a really good year for me, and I have much to be grateful for. I also have much to look forward to!

“Flu season” is almost upon us, and with it, influenza vaccine propaganda is everywhere.

I don’t use the word “propaganda” lightly. It has a negative connotation and implies that misinformation is being fed to people to manipulate their beliefs and their actions.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what we see when it comes to the influenza and the flu vaccine. And it’s only gotten worse over the last 10 years.

But wait, you say, thousands of people die every year from the flu. We have to get the influenza vaccine so that we are totally protected against getting the flu. And we have to get it every year. They're totally safe!

None of those statements is true.

Let’s break down nine (9) of the biggest myths about influenza and the influenza vaccine.

This is my favorite time of year — the sunshine, fresh produce, and warmth are definitely earth-based medicine for me. They also fuel my motivation to eat well and move my body joyfully. This spring I participated in a fitness challenge with five colleagues, and together we racked up over 14,500 minutes of exercise in 8 weeks. It felt so good to move again after feeling so sludgy all winter!

Also, last month I had the honor to meet with and be interviewed by Polly Tommey on the VAXXED bus. This courageous woman has dedicated her life to vaccine safety awareness after her son was injured by the MMR shot many years ago.

More than I have ever seen in my life, this latest American presidential election has broken hearts. It occasionally brought out the best in people, but it mostly elicited some really nasty behavior and hate speech.

There is so much grief, fear, desperation and frustration out there. These emotions can actually be harmful to our health and well-being, but there are steps we can take to honor our grief, steps that can help us heal from our sense of loss and/or sadness.

The other day I posted a picture on Facebook of the chocolate cake I had baked in honor of my son’s birthday. With just 5 nutrient-dense ingredients, the cake satisfied on so many different levels, and it was easy to eat a piece guilt-free.

Several people have asked for the recipe, which you can access by clicking on the photo above.

How did you celebrate the 4th of July? Did you host a party? Head to the hills to watch the fireworks presentations? Admittedly I was more in the mood for and in need of some self-care, so I did a meditation in honor of the new moon, ran some errands, and then headed to the hills not to watch fireworks, but to take a walk in the fresh air at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. I had had a decision hanging over my head, and taking a long stroll out in nature, listening to the hum of the bees in the oak trees, and watching the baby quail scuttle about were the ideal way for me to tap into that inner wisdom patiently waiting to be heard above life’s cacophonous din.

Heeding the Inner Voice

It can be difficult to heed our inner voice amid all the “noise” that is out there, especially if the decision goes against popular thought and belief systems. And yet, once we’ve tapped into that wisdom, it’s so important to follow our hearts and speak our truths, because not doing so can impact our health on many levels. I’ve had more than one client come to see me with a sore throat or laryngitis right around the same time they had to bite their tongue due to office politics, or because of family dynamics, or simply out of fear. Not to mention the impact on one’s emotional, mental and spiritual health, knowing you can’t necessarily do or say the right thing – at least, what is right for you.

That intrinsic need to speak my truth is one reason why I don’t send out newsletters on a pre-determined basis, or why the topics might seem a little random but are always near and dear to my heart. I mean, sure, I could hire someone to write my newsletters for me so that they arrive in your inbox at the same time on the same day each week, but I’d much rather connect with you all in my authentic voice.

Speaking of my voice, I know a few of you were weirded out by the meditation on love I sent out last week. That’s OK. You never know when you might need it. The meditation is a great way to send someone you care about a healthy dose of healing love. Mostly, though, I created the meditation because it helps empower me beyond the powerlessness of mass shootings, bombings at holy sites, forced vaccinations, and ethical voids that exist among the presumed “leaders” of our world today.

Love trumps fear every time.

If you missed the meditation, you can access it here.

And if your health is suffering from the stress of not being able to speak your truth, send me an email by replying to this newsletter, or give me a call. We’ll give your body the nutritional support it needs so that you can reclaim your power in the ways that work best for you.

Let’s get a little woo woo for a minute, shall we? I have a ridiculous amount of tools and knowledge in my healing box. Sometimes I have to laugh with gratitude at my abundance, like the delighted little girl who has been showered with gifts on her birthday. There is one tool I have that surpasses the others. Of all the tools in my healing box, the most important, the most powerful, is love. If you’d like some help calling in the love, here’s a short meditation on love that I made for you. I hope it gives you exactly what you need. Woo woo gets a bad rap, but sometimes, it’s just what the nurse ordered.

Last year I wrote a blog post called “Why I’m not afraid of measles.” It went viral (no pun intended) and continues to be my most popular blog ever, with over 50,000 hits. It also attracted the ire of pharmaceutical trolls and uneducated people alike who felt it was their duty to call me every nasty name in the book. I even got a death threat, which made me more angry than afraid.

Since then I haven’t said much publicly about vaccination. Instead, I’ve been working behind the scenes to teach people about their international right to informed consent, to advocate for parents and children, and to help my clients discover the meaning of true health.

Last week, however, I was moved and inspired by Robert DeNiro’s incredible display of courage when he appeared on the Today show in support of the movie Vaxxed, which had been pulled from his Tribeca Movie Festival after other filmmakers supposedly complained about its single scheduled showing. Vaxxed is a documentary focusing on how a CDC whistleblower came forward with proof that the CDC had destroyed information linking the MMR vaccine to increased rates of autism by as much as 300%, especially in African-American boys.

I suspect that there is a lot more to the movie being pulled, beyond a few artist complaints, because of how much could be lost if this information goes mainstream and gains traction. We’re talking billions of dollars and the reputations of hundreds of federal, state, and county officials who will have to answer to millions of parents and children.

In honor of Mr. DeNiro’s bravery, I’ll be coming out with an updated version of my measles blog in the next couple of weeks. So much has happened since then, including the passage of SB 277 here in California, despite public protests. Fear is so powerful.

Rather than shutting down people who question our national reliance on vaccination as our sole disease prevention strategy, we need to keep the conversations going. We need to keep asking the hard questions.

The heath of our nation could be at stake.

You can see the video of DeNiro on the Today show here. Fast forward to minute 2:20, when a father’s love and passion break free on national mainstream television. I could have weptfor him.

http://www.today.com/video/robert-de-niro-on-anti-vaccine-film-controversy-let-s-find-out-the-truth-665031235642

And yes, he was absolutely excoriated in media and social media afterwards, simply because he thinks parents have a right to know the truth.

Because everyone has a right to know the truth.

You can watch the trailer for Vaxxed here. http://vaxxedthemovie.com/ Local screenings are being arranged throughout the country.

Stay tuned, my friends. I’m here to be your advocate, to fight for you, and make sure that we get some answers to those hard questions.

There is no podcast this week. In honor of last week’s new moon in Libra, I have been releasing old wounds that hold me back in my business and my relationships and prevent me from realizing my potential as a woman, a mother, and a healer.

As part of the healing process and at the suggestion of a friend and colleague who is a psychotherapist for the gifted, I burned a stack of about 20 poems that I had written in high school. Most of them were about unrequited love (sigh…), being the rejected ugly duckling, and how dreams couldn’t possibly come true. While each poem burned, I said thank you and good-bye to the words and their significance. I let go of the angst, the pain, the shame, and the fear. I made room for beauty, love, and gratitude. Then after I burned the poems, I realized there was much more within.

“Abundance” has become a buzz word in the last several years. A lot of people equate wealth and abundance with money and material goods. We all know that material wealth is only a single facet of abundance. Yet in our quest to achieve that wealth and abundance, we often sacrifice other areas of our lives — our physical health or personal relationships, for example. You have to be willing to invest in yourself to create abundance.

It used to be that food was considered medicine. Now, however, nutrition is scoffed at by many in mainstream medicine. The reality is, every day I read another study that indicates long-term usage of pharmaceutical drugs is bad medicine. These medications lead to “drug-induced diseases,” something my colleague Gerald Roliz discusses at length in his book The Pharmaceutical Myth. I see these drug-induced diseases every day in my practice. The good news is, there are always alternatives.

Hippocrates was onto something when he said to let food be your medicine. You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to know that certain foods make you feel good, while others make you tired, gassy, and grumpy.

And you don’t have to be Julia Childs to cook tasty, healthy foods, either! We all know someone whose life has been touched by depression in the forms of major depression disorder, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder. Depression is the leading cause of disability both internationally and here in the U.S.

According to a 2011 article (http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/astounding-increase-in-antidepressant-use-by-americans-201110203624 ) from Harvard University, anti-depressant use in the United States QUADRUPLED between 1994 and 2008. 10% of Americans are now taking some type of anti-depressant medication, spending at least $11 BILLION per year.

And yet, even the American Psychological Association acknowledges that at least half of the people on anti-depressants don’t benefit from the drugs but rather the placebo effect. Many drugs have blackbox warnings because they cause suicide, one of the very outcomes they are supposed to prevent.

There is something very wrong here.

The reality is, depression is not a Prozac (or Zoloft or Lexapro) deficiency. New research is coming out every day that mental health disorders almost always take their root from some type of nutritional deficiency and/or inflammatory condition, whether in the brain itself, in the digestive system, or elsewhere in the body.

But don’t take my word for it. In a new series called the Depression Sessions, my friend and esteemed colleague, Sean Croxton at Underground Wellness, has put together 22 interviews of some of the leading experts in depression, nutrition and mental health. These FREE sessions are not to be missed.

I’ve been operating at half tilt for the last couple of weeks. Sick kids home from school, long nights with the 8th grade musical (it was amazing!), and cold, gray, foggy weather all threw me off balance. My energy was waning, I felt unmotivated to work out, and my brain was on slo-mo.

I understand my needs well enough now to know what to do to restart my system: get out into nature! It’s just like what always happens when you reach out to tech support with an equipment malfunction. They tell you to reboot the machine first, right? Don’t even bother calling them until you turn your phone/ tablet/ computer/ printer off, wait 10 seconds, and then reboot.
