Danielle is the founder of Boomer Benefits, a company that helps members of the Baby Boomer generation navigate the transition from traditional healthcare to Medicare. · Medicare brokers work with multiple insurance plans to provide health plans that fill in the gaps that Medicare doesn’t cover.

· There are over 1 million providers that accept Medicare. Your access to them depends on your health plan.

· HMOs and PPOs were the impetus for tipping the decision-making for a plan of treatment from the medical professional to the insurance company.

It’s a service provider’s perspective on healthcare from Jonathan Friedman on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Jonathan is from Toronto Canada. He is a Millennial (Generation Y.) His specialty is child and youth counseling as well as coaching. He is the president of “The Journal That Talks Back™.”

Here are 3 things that stood out as Jonathan Friedman gave us a service provider’s perspective on healthcare:

· Sometimes the mental health of people with developmental disabilities can be missed because of the focus on their diagnosis. There needs to be a holistic view.

· Great healthcare is affordable, accessible, and holistic. (A prime example is that psychotherapy is typically not covered or only a few sessions are covered by insurance.)

· Transportation is a huge obstacle for people with disabilities when it comes to accessing the healthcare system.

Paula Franetti gives us a patient’s perspective on healthcare in this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. She is from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This is interview 16 in the patient’s perspective interview marathon. You will notice at the end of the interview that things get cut off in the middle of a sentence. That is because the interview continues on a more personal side that is not related to her perspective on healthcare as a patient. I am thrilled to bring you a hospital clown’s perspective on healthcare from Eddy Smits on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Eddy is a member of Generation X. He joined the podcast from Belgium where he has worked as a hospital clown. It was a unique opportunity to have a serious conversation about a profession that makes people smile. Personally, I found his thoughts and insights to be fascinating.

Here are 3 things that stood out as Eddy Smits shared a hospital clown’s perspective on healthcare:

· Hospital clowning is a very different animal than regular clowning. In traditional clowning, the clown is the star. In hospital clowning, it’s all about the patient.

· One way to improve the quality of healthcare is to smile as you enter the room.

· Quality healthcare is going beyond the disease. It is seeing the individual as a whole, not as a diagnosis.

· Bonus: Laughter is healing.
