I was delighted to have been contacted by John moody who is a young entrepreneur and managing director of a Human Resources solutions provider-  in house HR, he is also an ambassador for the school of thought (in the automotive sector ) helping young people pursue their careers in the motor industry.

John passed his pilots license before passing his driving test and started designing software to automate the back office of his parents company.  He has an entrepreneurial spirit and we look forward to you hearing what he had to say.

John shared some of his results so far with his business as well as sharing some of the problems he faced when starting up.

John finished on a quote by Stephen Covey which was one of the most valuable lessons from this podcast, it was "the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing". This relates to all your entrepreneurs starting out and for those with businesses, remember to focus on the core of your business!

This week I invited James Sinclair on our podcast. James is the founder of party man. He is a successful entrepreneur, author, coach and speaker. He started his business after leaving school, he was a children entertainer.
He then grew by adding staff, improving his marketing and investing in himself snd the growth of his business now this business turns over 12 million a year and he employs 400 staff!

It was fascinating to listen about how you came up with your original business idea and how you have been successful and how quickly your growing! It was funny to hear how you had a tuck shop at school and that was how you started your entrepreneurship! It’s also very good for our listeners to hear about your podcast and your books, for our listeners you can buy his books online, I recommend “the millionaire clown”- it was a great read. You can also listen to his podcast on Spotify- James Sinclair’s business podcast!

To summarise the most important things I have taken from this chat was that James said successful entrepreneurs have the following qualities and he quoted his “eight traits of the greats”

  • They Surround themselves with good people
  • Their Rules of success are e plus m = S this is entrepreneurship plus management = success!
  • Top quality marketing
  • Raising finance effectively

This week I invited our youngest entrepreneur onto the podcast to talk about his business Event Alert Pro. Marcus is only 19 years old and came straight out of school and decided to start a business in something he enjoyed- events. He found that he couldn't always get the best price for tickets when they became available online so decided to create an alert system for users like us, to ensure we were given the first choice to get tickets at face value for our favourite events.

Marcus told us all about how quickly his business is growing as well as speaking about some technical issues he faced and how he resolved them! Gourmet2Go is working alongside Marcus to ensure that his users can take gourmet boxes of food with them to events such as the Henley Regatta! We are looking forward to working with a fellow entrepreneur!

Please do check out Marcus' website and if your interested in events and securing tickets when they first come on sale, hit subscribe on his site! https://www.eventalertpro.com

This week I invited young entrepreneur and Co founder of Get legless, Alistair Moss onto the podcast to talk about his business 'Get Legless' which  is a social drinking game which is expanding quickly from the UK into the EU and America with sales increasing every day.

We spoke about how Alistair started his business with his house mates at university when sat outside playing drinking games in the garden during lockdown and since, have created a card game out of some ideas on a scrap piece of paper.

In the last 9 months the team has made several thousand sales and they are about to launch their new business 'VITME'.
It was fascinating to understand how Get Legless evolved as well as understanding that, some businesses' can start on a small budget and like with Mark, founder of Armago, Alistair plugged some of his student loan into starting the two businesses.

This week as its bank holiday I decided to summarise a lecture I listened too by Bill Gross, an author, entrepreneur and business owner in America. Bill has run several businesses of his own and started 'Idealab' which supports new businesses and helps them grow.

Bill talks about the successes and failures of new 'start up' businesses and he uses 5 points to summarise what makes a business succeed and fail and puts them into order of most important based on a review of over 500 companies, these points are:

  1. The idea- the lightbulb moment;
  2. The team and executing that idea adapting to anything which comes your way;
  3. Business model- how important is it to start a business with a secure model which will increase revenue and secure customers?
  4. Funding- is it really important to have lots of money behind you when you start up?
  5. Timing- is the idea too early or too late?

He summarises by stating that Timing is the most important part of succeeding in a business, when you launch is crucial! Bill shows his point by using his first company, Z.COM which failed due to a decision to launch too soon.

Next week we’ve invited young entrepreneur and Co founder of Get legless, Alastair Moss onto the podcast. Get Legless is a a social drinking game which is expanding from UK to EU and America with sales increasing every day. We are looking forward to discussing with him about his business, how it started and how its growing so fast!

In this weeks podcast we invited Mark Bushby, a fellow young entrepreneur and creator and founder of Armago- the go-to app for university sport onto our podcast to talk about his journey!

Armago is all about meeting with other students and sports players through the app to enjoy a kick around, some touch rugby or a game of tennis. At the moment, the app is focusing on onboarding clubs through universities where they will then gain club members who can interact with each other and organise matches!

Mark and I spoke about his start up business and how he is now in round three of developing a new version of his app. We listened too how Mark and his business are growing every day to achieve a solution to a well known problem!

We spoke about how Mark started up and his plans for the future. Most importantly I think what I took from this weeks conversation with Mark was that, as a young entrepreneur don’t just come up with an idea, find a problem and see how you can solve that problem!

We also talked about Marks innovation course and he told us about how creative he is and how he came up with some interesting ideas as a youngster having read Richard Branstons' books. Mark also mentioned when he was talking about his business a book which our listeners may be keen to listen to or read- the book is called 'Contagious' how to build word of mouth in a digital era- and I Started it today - its fantastic and it is available on Audible.

We also heard how Mark unfortunately took on a tech guru who then ended up leaving with all of his code- from this I have learnt and our listeners should note, a big lesson when starting a business is too pick the team and partners you work with wisely moving forward!

In This weeks episode I decided to share with my listeners my first pitch to The Princes Trust for a small investment back in August 2021. I was extremely nervous and you will see what made it worse was the internet was so slow!!

However, it was fantastic to hear such great feedback from the Princes Trust and to get 4 'Yes' at the end of my pitch.

The princes trust is a charity which assists in start up businesses and helps fund their initial stages- they were a great help to me and will continue to help me over the coming months and years!

This week I invited Aditi onto the podcast to talk about her business as a go to market strategist.

Aditi is a Go-To-Market Strategist from Norway who helps her clients take their brands, products, services and ideas to market effectively. She has over 11 years of marketing and communications experience in businesses and markets of different sizes, Aditi has mastered the art of solving the problem 'Why Isn't This Selling?'

Aditi's framework is designed to help clear the fog around product, brand, marketing and sales and help business owners crack the lead generation code. Her best work is with experts, coaches, consultants and service-business entrepreneurs.

Aditi says that there are 3 elements to fuel the fire to business and these are:

  1. Your Product explaining what your selling and who too.
  2. Your platform- where is the product living and how do people meet you and our businesses
  3. Plan- A 3 pronged plan which includes financials, marketing and sales.

If they come together the fire then starts!

In this weeks podcast I look at the question- How lucky are we? I recently watched  a lecture from a lecturer, writer and once business owner from Harvard University in America, she spoke to her students about luck and how there are 3 main ways to increase the amount of wind hitting your sail which in turn creates your luck:
1. Take risks and go out of your comfort Zone;
2. Show appreciation to others;
3. Change the relationship you have with your own ideas;
This weeks short podcast speaks about luck in business, and how important it is to appreciate what we have in our lives especially during these difficult times in Ukraine.
Please take a moment to say a prayer for Ukraine.

We are looking forward to welcoming back our guests next week, but in the meantime if our listeners have any questions for us or any of our future guests please get in touch via our social media feeds @gourmet2go or by email support@gourmet2go.uk.
