In ancient Hawaiian mythology, Laka is known as the goddess of Hula – the traditional style of dancing and storytelling of the Native Hawaiians. Kaimi Kaupiko shares from Miloli'i. Miloliʻi is purported to be "the last Hawaiian fishing village" according to a wooden sign in their community center. Without access to power lines or water, each house provides its own electricity and water with solar panels and tanks that collect rain water.
On February 5, 1868, a tsunami carried a church, named Hauʻoli Kamanaʻo and swept it away to Miloliʻi. Surprisingly, the church remained in good condition and still stands in Miloliʻi today.

THE EPIC STORY OF THE TRAVELS OF HIʻIAKA: MĀKUA AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN MYTHOLOGY
The goddess Hi‘iaka traveled from the island of Hawai‘i to Kaua‘i with her companions Wahine‘ōma‘o and Pā‘ū-o-pala‘a. The purpose of her journey was to fetch the chief Lohi‘au-ipo (Lohi‘au) from Ha‘ena, Kaua‘i. On the journey, Hi‘iaka and her party visited numerous locations on Hawai‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, and O‘ahu. Having reached Kaua‘i she found that Lohi‘au had died, and following the ceremonies, she revived him and began her journey with Lohi‘au to return to Pele’s domain at Kīlauea, Hawai‘i.

In the Kumulipo the world was created over a cosmic night. This is not just one night, but many nights over time. The ancient Hawaiian kahuna and priests of the Hawaiian religionwould recite the Kumulipo.Queen Liliʻuokalani described the chant as a prayer of the development of the universe and the ancestry of the Hawaiians. Liliʻuokalani translated the chant under house arrest in Iolani Palace.
The Kumulipo is a cosmogonic genealogy, which means that it relates to the stars and the moon. Out of the 2102 lines, it has 16 "wā" which means era or age. In each wā, something is born whether it is a human, plant, or creature.
