From God to hiphop and everything in between

Women's presence in Hiphop has been since the beginning. From Cindy Cambell (Dj Kool Herc's sister) to Roxanne Shante and every name in between, the lasting impact that women have had on hiphop is innumerable.

Sylvia Robinson, the "Mother of Hiphop", gathered her name for the pioneering acts she accomplished during the beginning stages of Hiphop. She is responsible for Sugar Hill in the Gang. A group known for being the first mainstream Hiphop record to play on the radio: "A Rapper's Delight".

With Hiphop being so visibly male dominated it has caused a rift in perspective concerning the importance of the contribution of women within this industry.

In this episode, we explore the importance and impact that women have made in the world of Hiphop.

God and Hiphop is where HipHop becomes holy. As God has already intended for it to be. Everything created was created for His glory. However there is an enemy that we believe as Christians that has come to pervert was is Holy.

This concept is completely non-traditional where I examine Artist from all facets of this particular music genre. Their greatness and their humanity while highlighting the work of the Lord through them despite their lack of "christian" in front of their "artist".

This quote from the late Madeleine L'Engle, the best selling author of the "Winkle in Time", writes in her book "Walk on Water"...

“I told her that if she is truly and deeply a christian, what she writes is going to be christian, whether she mentions Jesus or not. And if she is not…then what she writes is not going to be christian no matter how many times she invokes the name of the Lord.”

This podcast is where we see the hand of God on Artist, analyze their work and commit to the accountability of responsible Hiphop to honor it as Holy.
Welcome to God and Hiphop!

Podcast Question:
In today’s culture of hiphop, is it as impactful/life changing as we once recognized it to be?

We as humans are known to put God in a box. When we do so, we limit our ability to see what He sees and so much more.

How many of us truly believe that Elohim is too big to be boxed? If so, why do we assume that He can only present Himself in one way and if it is not done in that way, then it can't be Him?

I believe we put too many limitations on God which cause us to miss out on abundance and harvest because we are too afraid to see God in uncharted territory. We must remember that "The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof and they that dwell therein." Psalms 24:1

God created culture. Let's honor him by honoring what he allowed for us to express ourselves through in a righteous way.

Pose the Question (PQ):

  • Do you think that Japanese people are exploiting black culture or are heavily inspired/influenced by our culture? Exploitation (OUT) vs. Inspiration (IN)
  • What is your favorite anime?

Often times, we as onlookers have a specific way of how we think others are to respond when it comes to their own walk in life.

If our favorite biblical character, David, was in today's time, most people would deem him to be unworthy and unfit to call himself a Christian. How could he be a man after God's own heart if he purposefully murdered a man to have his wife? If he ignored his covenant with God to satisfy his own desires?

Most would probably have the same response that they do towards Kanye today. God specializes in using people most deem un-usable.

In this episode we explore the heart of this matter to gather new perspective about the judgements we cast on those who are not approaching God in a traditional manner.

Episode Question to Pose:

  • Is compartmentalizing an artist from their music (“separating an artist from their music”) a possible feat to accomplish or even a proper response? If so, why or why not?
  • What is your favorite album or song from Kanye?

Will Smith, like it or not, is a pioneer in this love we call Hiphop. Being the first, along with his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff, to win a grammy for Hiphop, Will Smith paved the way by showing there is a tangible reward for this genre. An incredible feat considering that most thought that Hiphop was a trend soon to fade.

But behind every pioneer is someone who helped guide and steer them along the way and for Will Smith that was his grandmother. A praying grandmother.

In this episode we explore the behind the scenes of Will Smith's life to see what helped create his legacy well before he was known in the world today.

Despite the negligence of cancel culture, we will see the importance of his contribution to the entertainment industry.

Often times we hear the artist thanking God, but rarely do we see them actually living for God.  And then we we say "living for God" we translate it into the most religious thing possible. When will we give God what's rightfully his? Not just the music, but our lives.
