While the shadow and the unconscious are similar, many times they are interchanged.

In this episode, we talk about how we truly are the center of own universes - that’s not the problem. The problem is that sometimes we think that we are the center of the Universe at large. This blocks us from doing risky (but worthwhile) things, taking chances, learning something new, or truly connecting with another. We put our self-worth into the “marks” that others give us, rather than relying on our own internal compass and self-esteem.

This episode is a continuation of last week.
This episode directly addresses how fear and separation shows up in our personal relationships, due to our survivalist mindset and consequent behavior.
Specifically, this story manifests:
- In the way we start to force our agenda or beliefs (resisting the present)
- Our need to be hyper-controlling
- The way we get defensive
- Our inability to ask for help
- When we assume the worst in others

In this episode, we discuss how fear and separation are the breeding grounds for the unhealthy ego - our inflated sense of self.
When we see the world through the lens of fear and separation, it appears to be hostile and unkind, which leads us into displaying defensive and self-protective behavior, ultimately leading us into a state of survival.
This shows up in so many different ways, but in this episode, I talk about how it shows up in the way of our inability to be grateful, our inability to notice signs and synchronicities, and our tendency to chase, grasp and hoard.
Next time, we talk about how this story shows up in our behaviors that directly impact our relationships.

In this episode, we talk about the ego story of scarcity. Ego tells you that there’s just not enough to go around and the only one who will look out for you is you.
I discuss how we can’t deny that some things in life do have limits (ex. There are only 24 hours in a day, my salary is a certain amount, my house can only hold so much), but there are other things that do not. Often, our scarcity mindset confuses things that actually do have limits with what is not.
This is a two part series (next week is released as a bonus episode) where I talk about how scarcity shows up our lives. This week, I discuss the scarcity mindset around:
Next week (16 NOV) I’m talking about our scarcity story around:
Abundance is the antidote for scarcity, but abundance is sometimes confused with excess. When we step into true abundance we let go of the fear that we won’t be provided for and we can start living a life lead by spirit and in true alignment.

In this episode, I talk about an ego story that is probably one of the most difficult ones to spot. This is the ego story of denial.
Denial is likely the most effective story that your ego uses to defend your shadow. Because it works though ignorance, this story will keep us in an ego state, preventing us from realizing and confronting our own limiting beliefs, shame triggers, projections, and wounds.
I discuss some things that we do that you can use to indicate a state of denial, but really the first step is asking yourself the question and then giving yourself the space and attention you need to be completely honest with yourself.
Lastly, I talk about how to deal with someone you know or care about who is in a state of denial. As frustrating as it can be when someone won’t admit something that is so apparent to you, force is not the way. A state of love and total acceptance are.

In this episode, I talk about how to get out of your rut. I propose an idea that the feeling of being in a rut is biologically explained by a decreased amount of dopamine in our system.
Dopamine is the neurochemical that is responsible for the motivation to see yourself to a better future. It’s often referred to as the “want” hormone. It makes us pursue, get excited about possibilities, and dream big.
When you’re in a rut, you have a hard time getting excited or motivated, as your life feels like it’s on one big repeat, which parallels closely with the feeling you get when your dopamine (along with other feel-good neurochemicals) are low.
When we’re in a rut, we can often find ourselves unconsciously trying to stimulate dopamine artificially, in order to bring us back to a state of excitement and motivation. This most often comes in the form allowing yourself some retail therapy or binge watching TV. Substances such as sugar, alcohol, and cocaine are known to hijack the dopamine circuits in our brains, which explains the all too familiar scene in our lives where we find ourselves on the couch with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, promising that we’ll make more of our day “tomorrow”.
All of these unhealthy habits will make you feel better in the moment, but ultimately contribute to your stress and further entrench you in your rut in the long-run.
I propose here that the answer isn’t to come to grips with our dopamine deprived state, rather it’s to embrace it and find healthier ways to release dopamine. In this episode I offer 6 healthy alternatives to increasing our dopamine and getting out of your rut.

In this episode, I talk about embracing uncomfortable situations in life.
During painful situations, we often tell ourselves this story of, “It’ll be better when…” (we get a new car, we’re in a relationship, we have a new job, we get settled into our new house…). This story prevents us from living in the present moment, while our sights are honed in on a better and brighter tomorrow. When we leave this present moment, we forget about all of the gifts that it holds for us.
It isn’t the situation that is the problem, it’s our judgement of the situation that makes it painful.
In this episode, I talk about 6 things to consider when going through hard times that can help bring your attention back into the present moment and harness the power they bring.

We tend to have the hardest time implementing and respecting boundaries between the people who are closest to us in our lives such as parents, romantic partners, siblings, or close friends. However, these are the relationships that can benefit most from good boundaries, as they are a part of our every-day lives.
I give a 5-step suggestive “how-to” when it comes to setting boundaries. This list is not all-inclusive. When you really “get” boundaries, you don’t need these steps, but it’s a good place to start. These 5-step are:

In this episode, I talk about a pattern of thinking that our unhealthy ego gets trapped in. This pattern is characterized by ONE. There is only one line of thinking, one option, or one right belief system. This is the world of black and white, right and wrong, good and bad. This ego story hard-lines everything and attaches to absolutes.
You may have experienced this ego story if you have found yourself:
As always, the first step is to become aware that you are in this thought pattern. Secondly, the point is not to overcome the ego entirely, but to make the ego work for you. When you get outside of the “one option/one line of thinking” mindset, then you can consciously make new decisions from several different possibilities, instead of getting trapped into thinking there is only one.

In this episode, I talk about what manifesting really is. There are components that are “magical”, but it’s way more practical than we’re led to believe.
Manifesting is really just bringing things into existence, which is explained in one of two ways
I talk a tiny bit about quantum physics (on which much of this is based)
But more importantly, I highlight the importance of becoming your own source of joy. When you stop needing things from your external environment, then that’s when you’re free to be.

In this episode, I talk about the prevailing schools of thought around body image. The first one is that we need to strong arm our bodies into being the body we see on TV (diet culture). The second is that we need to love our bodies just the way they are (body positivity).
The problem with both of these is that they can be seen as two sides of the same coin. Both leave us looking to the outside world, wondering "how". Everyone has their opinion on what diet is right for everyone (spoiler alert: there's no one size fits all). And body positivity culture leaves us asking, "How do I love my body when deep down, I really don't?"
I address 3 things that we can do to show our bodies love and arrive at the middle ground between these two extremes.

In this episode, we discuss why we should re-evaluate our striving for perfection.
Perfection can appear in many facets of our lives, not just work. It shows up in the ways we try to be perfect parents, have the perfect relationship, strive for the perfect body etc.
There are 3 things I bring to light in this episode:
1. Perfection is external and we get it from the world around us. Thus, as we're striving for this image of perfection, it's inauthentic to us, as it's a re-creation of an external image. Perfection also an ever moving target: when we get close to achieving it, a new and better goal will be our next endeavor
2. In the context of creation, perfection tends to paralyze because there will always be ways to make it better. Instead of just "doing it", we will hold out for the more perfect product.
3.. Perfection, on the whole, is not achievable. There will always be something that we're doing "imperfectly". And so instead of recognizing those things in ourselves to self-correct, we tend to project imperfection onto others, which shows up in the form of judgment and criticism.
Images of perfection can be used to inspire, but perhaps we can hold these images a bit out of focus, so that we have room to let our process take on a life of its own that is unique and authentic to us.

In this episode, we talk all about the inner victim.
Your inner victim is the part of you that says, "it's not my fault", while blaming someone or something else for being in a disadvantaged state. While your inner victim makes you feel better for a moment, ultimately this is a story that will keep you powerless and stuck.
You can learn to identify when you're in a victim story by the common character traits of all inner victims by the phases the victim uses, both of which are covered in this episode.
The inner victim has lessons for us: empower yourself, keep good boundaries, and make your pain into your purpose. With these lessons, we can learn that it is safe to move out of the victim state and become more of our authentic selves.

In this episode, I discuss what this podcast will be all about and why I decided to start this podcast. We all have stories that we tell ourselves that prevent us from living out the life that we really want. They are stories like, "I'm not good enough", "what will they think", "I don't deserve", "I'm not capable". They are stories that are rooted in anxiety, guilt, shame, fear, and comparison. They are subtle and only barely detectable. When we believe these stories, they keep us stuck in the past and prevent us from creating the life we want and living out our soul's purpose.
