The Life Lesson Thrift Shop: Recent Episodes

Galit & Aviel

They say a wise man learns from his mistakes; a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others. Galit (23) and Aviel (21) are siblings, originally from NY, and have lived in GA and abroad. They share in a comedic yet real way their journey, discovering who they are and what they want in life. Being lost seems to a recurring theme among people our age. Maybe by sharing their experiences in life and what they've learned along the way, they can help people expedite their journeys of finding themselves... without the mistakes along the way.

The sky is the limit they say; however, sometimes that sky feels a lot closer than it really is.

Dreams can be buried with the idea, “How can little ol’ me…” But hey, who says you’re not one of the next Nobel Prize laureates?

At the end of the day, someone will win, so why can’t that someone be you? If someone else can do it - if it’s proven to be possible - then you can do it too. And even the impossible is sometimes just waiting to be proven otherwise.

In this episode, we’ll be hearing how and why Aviel knows he’ll be winning the Nobel Prize.

So here's the story about Galit and the unicorn diary. Sometimes the benefit we receive from helping someone is greater than the benefit that we've provided that person. Does that make the act any less benevolent? Does that make the act selfish?

Galit and Aviel share their experience doing an exam in economics and the different ways people processed that experience. Some of us need to compare answers right after the exams ends with other students, some don't want to discuss it at all - what's done is done - and others, well, it hits them a bit later to reflect on the exam...

Comfort zones are... well, comfortable. Why would we ever leave them? Oftentimes, we think there might be some benefit to leaving them, but are we willing to take the risk and venture out into other, less comfortable areas of life? Give the episode a listen for our thoughts!

I'm stressed at this very moment. Aviel has given me a description to write on this episode. The problem is we recorded it too long ago for me to remember what we discussed in it.

You will still listen regardless how poor this description is? Did I read your mind correctly?

What I can tell you, in this episode, you is you will learn what "pulling a Galit" is (hint: don't forget the last page of a test). You will hear about some of our stressful moments and triggers. But most importantly, you will gain what we've come to learn and are still learning when it comes to stress.

Enjoy!

How much of Today do you sacrifice in order to plan Tomorrow? These moments right now (this very moment you're reading this) are moments you won't ever get back. We all need to find the right balance between taking advantage of the present and utilizing the present to enjoy a better future. As always, we sharing our thoughts and our experiences with the matter.

Bystander: “Don’t take it personally. He was just having a bad day.”

My thoughts: But he was talking to me. It became personal.

Do you also internally scream when you hear this expression? “Don’t take it personally.”

Aviel and I get into this topic, questioning what this expression really means. Should we also not be taking someone’s kindness personally either? Next time someone is nice to me, should I not take it personally?

Have thoughts on the matter, listen and share. Or just share. Or just listen. Whatever you what to do. We won’t take it personally ;)

An hour and forty minutes! What has us ranting? Let's try and explain.

Yes, the main topic is indecision, but once you start listening, it's clear we couldn't decide how we actually wanted to cover the topic.

If you're in the mood for an informal, story-sharing vibe, this episode is for you. You will be afforded an opportunity to hear about the time Aviel was panicked in a changing room with women's pants he could not get off himself. You will then listen to us digress to sharing a fun, yet frustrating hiking experience we had just earlier in the day. And somewhere in between - the most important part - you will gain some second-hand experiences from us as we share some real struggles of ours with making decisions and the tips we have.

This episode is packed. Come sit with us for an irregular schmooze session where Aviel and I will be the ones doing all the talking. Or most of it...just remember we can't hear you :)

Galit is a little preoccupied, so Aviel has taken it upon himself to write the description. I apologize in advance; it might a little more dry than what you're used to.

Anyway, after going on a trip, Galit and Aviel discuss what they took away from their experience. They visited a city, in which the culture was making progress in gender equality, but still had some ways to go. That was a bit of a bummer, but rest of the trip was great, between the bike ride in nature and the 10am wine-tasting. Aviel's biggest take away was needing to be more active in creating opportunities instead of just looking to take advantage of the ones that already exist. Galit learned that sometimes she just needs to appreciate the present and focus on the here and now. Everything in the right proportion, though.

Let us know if there's something you'd like us to talk about! Any comments, questions, etc., you know where to reach us!

What do I think of you?

Well, what the heck do you think of me?

Humans gather their first impression within the first seven seconds of meeting someone, which isn't really a lot of time. In this episode, we share all our thoughts on first impressions - what we first notice about a person, how first impressions have misled us, and the first impressions we give off.

Our stories of our encounters are funny. In our opinion, that is. We state not a fact; we do, however, anticipate some laughter from you. Afterall, first impressions can be tricky.

As you get to know a person, you constantly test that original theory - that perception of a person - but even so, it's hard to change your mind about someone. Because of this, it's important to keep an open mind, whether it be because some people change or because your intuition was a little off. In any case, these are our thoughts on the topic, and while on the topic, what impression did you get of us?

Let us know if you have any questions or any topic you'd like us to cover! We'd love to hear from you! And feel free to leave a comment- but guys, only if it falls under the category of a compliment; people like to hear nice things about themselves.

We kid ;)

Join us for the second part of episode 5 after Galit takes the mic and decides to boldly share her experience - or lack thereof -  with podcats.

In the first part of the episode, she was determined to share a story, and she was not about to let Aviel end the recording until she did so.

If you were ever babied in high school or would like to hear about a couple of people who were, well, click that play button. Galit will either be completely thrilled to find you wanted to hear what she had to say or totally embarrassed when she realizes real people are listening in. Either way, her reaction will be appreciated, so click :)

As always, if you have any questions or comments, let us know!

Can a "people person" think negatively of people as a whole? It sure took Galit by surprise...

Over the years, Aviel has come to the conclusion that people at their core aren't all that benevolent. Not that they're bad - they're just not good. As far as humanity has come, there is still that primitive part of our nature that is looking out for our survival, which can oftentimes come at the expense of others. Maybe you might consider him a pessimist, maybe not. In any case, here are our thoughts on the matter.

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions/comments or if there's a specific topic you'd like us to discuss!

Galit noticed that the previous three episodes weren't really matching the vibe we were going for. So, we decided to dedicate this episode to the light atmosphere we usually engender and discuss some funny stories. Along the way, our conversation eventually leads to talking about flirting. What do you think about what we have to say?

In this episode, we introduce our motivation for creating this series and speak a little bit about ourselves. We've gone though a good amount of experiences. Maybe you can relate to what we've gone through; maybe we've been in a situation you're currently in. We hope that by sharing, you can take something from our experiences and figure out that whole "life" thing just a little quicker.
