Bright lights and stunning artworks have landed in Canberra for Van Gogh Alive. This exhibition of Van Gogh's artwork will be shown in a Grand Pavillion, a specially designed and constructed 25,000 square foot immersive gallery. It is a must see and is only in Canberra for a limited time.
We love a good cause and this time the support is coming in the form of something a little silly. The Men of Queanbeyan Calendar is now available for purchase. All funds raised will go towards helping Respite Care in Queanbeyan. Respite Care are looking to build a purpose bult respite care facility in Queanbeyan.
If you are a 'Royalist' then we have found the perfect event for you to attend. At Parliament House they are celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s historic Platinum Jubilee with an exclusive tour of representations of the Queen in the Australian Parliament House art collection. The tour includes stories behind Sir William Dargie’s ‘Wattle Queen’ and the statue of Queen Elizabeth II in the Queen’s Terrace Café. You’ll also see the Queen represented in art throughout Australian history at the opening of parliaments in 1954 and 1974 and the opening of Australian Parliament House in 1988. We all like a bit of adults only fun and we're very excited for this upcoming event. Questacon is teaming up with ANU to put on an adults only event called 'Questacon Goes Viral'. Held on the 30th of July, you'll take part in the 2021 Miss Information Pageant and vote on the best-worst way that people try and sell you information. There will also be ANU researchers on hand to talk about how vaccinates work, where pandemics come from and what we have learned from them throughout history. Cam and Kristen speak with Toby James from ANU about what's involved.
We mustn't be the only ones that have heard about these events where you paint and can also enjoy a sip of wine as you go. Well we've tracked down Paint Along, which is a business that hosts painting events at your favourite local pub or restaurant. The great thing about these events is that you are provided with everything you need including paintbrushes, easels, canvases and aprons. Sounds like we need to sign ourselves up. This coming Wednesday is, 'Thank a First Responder Day'. First responders protect and care for our communities. The work they do is vitally important, but it is also often confronting, traumatic and dangerous.
Cam and Renee have been finding out a lot about all things happening in space. Well the updates aren't over as they speak to Dr Brad Tucker from the Australian National University (ANU). There are two major events happening very soon. On Wednesday there will be a 'Super Blood Mood'. This will be visible from early Wednesday evening. We find out what will happen and when the best time is to view.
There are exciting things happening at Questacon. They've recently opened a new exhibition called 'Australia in Space', which celebrates the Australian space sector and explores the benefits of space technologies here on earth. This is a must see exhibition and is great for kids and adults. One of the favourite parts of the exhibition is a large scale experience that allows you the ability to drive a simulated martian rover over the surface of Mars and mine for specific natural resources. Questacon has also recreated a space habitat, so you can understand how astronauts live in space. Both of these displays are something you don't get to see every day and is unique to this exhibition in Canberra. Cam and Renee catch up with Linda Beverage from Friends of Black Mountain about what is happening this week for the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival. One of Linda's favourite events is the 50th anniversary for the Black Mountain to be considered a nature reserve and a book was released too that is worth checking out. The Kingston Railway Museum is also hosting an open day this weekend.

This year the event will be delivered to the Canberra region digitally and there are plenty of ways you can get involved to raise funds for RSPCA ACT to help them care for unwanted and abused animals.

There are over 200 pieces on display that explore intimate and romantic relationships. There are a lot of well known Australians involved in the exhibition including Jimmy and Jane Barnes, Tom and Lilly Roberts, William Yang (who is well known for his Mardi Gras photography) and more!
One of the most iconic events in Canberra is finishing. The Canberra Balloon Spectacular wrapped up for 2021 and we think it was a huge success. It was wonderful seeing so many people around the lake, enjoying the sites and sounds of the balloons and sharing plenty of photos on social media. Enlighten and the Canberra Balloon Festival are the first big major events held during the pandemic. There has been so many highlights that we cannot pick out favourite. Cam and Renee speak to Vicki Cotter, the Executive Producer of Enlighten about how this year went.
Cam and Renee speak to Michael Harrington about what is happening with the Wildside Primary Adventure Fundraising happening this Thursday. Wildside Primary Adventures is a group of passionate individuals who encourage kids to take part in a lot of fun outdoor activities. A fundraising event has been organised for the 'Fly Program' - a non-for-profit organisation run in the Snowy Mountains. The program is commitment to provide the resources to assist Australian men to find a release and increase their quality of life, whether directly, or indirectly touched by these threads of mental illness and instituting a new outlet – participation in the natural world as a reprieve from the day-to-day challenges too many men face in our community.
Vinnies have recently launched a brand new fundraising event called 'The Knock on Effect' that will run throughout March. The event supports those without a safe place to sleep. The aim of the event is to highlight the knock on effect that donations, fundraising and raising awareness have on those who can be affected. Vinnies are asking those in the Canberra and surrounding regions to get involved. Cam and Renee chat to Vinnies President John Feint about the event.
Before Christmas, Endeavour House invited artists around Canberra to submit designs for a new mural to be painted in Manuka. Now, approximately 2 months later, the community has been given the opportunity to vote on the submissions! When the competition started, artists were given the theme 'climate change' and asked to design something beautiful and eye catching to be painted on the Endeavour House wall that overlooks the neighbouring service station. The goal of this mural was to cover up the existing graffiti that is currently on the wall, as well as support the local art community, with $25,000 on offer to the winner of the competition.
Canberra Symphony Orchestra is coming back this year, and they are kicking off the new season with something extra special for the romantics this Valentines Day! On Sunday 14th February they are putting on two sessions of their 'Forgotten Romance' performance at 2pm and 4:30pm. Tickets are selling fast though, as the 2pm session is already sold out! It is the perfect opportunity to do something different with your partner this Valentines Day, so why not make it a date! You can book tickets to the 4:30 session here. Camp Quality has been doing their best to improve the lives of kids for many years now, and this year they're putting on a special event to raise money. This years fundraising event is called the Big Ride for Little Kids, and is asking people to participate in a virtual cycling challenge to ride 50km, 100km or 150km from March 1 – 14 to fundraise $500,000 for kids facing cancer. Cam and Renee had the chance to talk to Jess Kercher, a Camp Quality volunteer, about the up coming event.
Christmas in the City is in full swing with a kaleidoscope tree set up in the middle of the City Centre, as well as musical performances and people in costumes wondering around spreading the Christmas spirit. Last weekend there was cookie decorating available as an activity for the kids, and this weekend there will be crafts with Santa's Elves! We had the chance to speak to the CEO of the City Renewal Authority to find out exactly what to expect if you go to visit this year.
As many of you already know, the Wilko Show is hosting a Christmas Lights Trail this year, which is taking the hard work out of finding lights in your area to go an visit. Not only has the team made the lights easy to find by giving you a map of all the registered locations across Canberra, but the event is also meant to help raise money for the Salvation Army's Hundreds for Thousands Christmas Drive. We had the chance to catch up with the organiser of the fundraiser - Natalie Tanchevski
If you haven't heard of it before, the Star Buffet is an all you can eat buffet which has become a favourite amongst Canberrans over the years. With dinning options ranging from seafood, to roasts, Asian noodles, pub food and more, there truly is something for everyone. Personally we believe there is a right and a wrong way to eating at the Star Buffet, because you have to go in with a system so that you can come out alive.
