Band or DJ? That question is officially outdated.

In this episode of The Wedding Songs Podcast, host Matthew Campbell sits down with Daniel Linares of DLE Event Group in New York City (a company that declined to choose). They don't book DJ-only events. They don't book band-only events. They've built their entire business on the hybrid model: a DJ-led mix with live musicians wrapped around it. Whitney sings Whitney with live horns on top.

Daniel breaks down the operating question behind his approach: "What would Quincy do?" mapping three-song mixes with written musical parts so live players hit home runs on every transition, while still leaving room to read the room.

Inside this episode:

  • Why couples who don't want a singer still want a band (and what to sell them instead)
  • The three-song mapped mix: structured transitions + open-format freedom
  • The "care factor": why 8–10 planning calls are DLE's biggest differentiator
  • Room acoustics. The venue setups that fight you, and how to tune around them
  • Scaling an artist-based brand into a company-based brand
  • Daniel's one song guaranteed to fill a dance floor for every generation

Matthew Campbell of My Wedding Songs and Dre Ovalle of DJ Dre Ovalle chat about DJing Latin weddings.

For as long as anyone remembers, Dre Ovalle has split his time between music, books, and learning. An avid reader and obsessed fan of heavy metal and electronic dance music since his early years in Trenton, NJ. Dre’s varied fixations have taken him to a variety of destinations that surely seem incongruous. Dre Ovalle has found his way into a life that is uniquely his own. Equal parts deep thinker, DJ, MC, multi-linguist, party starter, and A/V tech – Dre brings all elements of his personality into his simultaneously cautiously curated, yet extremely spontaneous DJ sets.
Holding down monthly residencies at major clubs on the east coast and playing some of the area's most well-known music festivals and prestigious venues, Dre has consistently shown himself to be one of the Tri-state’s most versatile, highly-regarded, and in-demand bilingual DJs. His brand has seen enormous growth in the past year as he continues to freelance for many high-end event companies all along the East Coast.

Matt talks about remembering your mom or dad during your wedding day. Get tips on alternative formal dances too.Important Links See a list of songs for remembering loved ones. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodesPodcast TranscriptNot every wedding is a fairy tale wedding. Maybe the mother has passed away, maybe the father has passed away, that is really what I want to talk about today - Other options you can have throughout the day and how you can incorporate them into your wedding day. You know, not having your father or mother at your wedding doesn’t mean that your wedding cannot be something special. A day of remembrance - remembering them in a special way with what you're bringing to the wedding. You may be thinking to yourself “well what does this have to do with wedding music”? Well, the first thing I want to discuss is how you can incorporate your loved one that has passed away or maybe you do not have a relationship with anymore.A great way you can do that is thru a song dedication. A song dedication could be incorporated into the wedding ceremony as a memorial. Maybe they have a favorite song, but maybe that song isn’t “wedding appropriate”. There are a lot of instrument and acoustic cover songs available that you could make part of your wedding ceremony. Also, there could be a special dedication of that person thru song at the reception. I would highly recommend having that during cocktail hour or, probably more importantly, during dinner. It is going to be an emotional time. I am going to make an assumption that the DJ or the band will make an announcement that this is a dedication and it is going to be a very emotional time so I would really recommend having that during the background time. You really don’t want to break up the flow, the romance, or the fun at any other time. But, if you were to do it at another time, maybe at the time of the formal dances. That is what I want to talk about next. OK, let’s say you are a bride and your father has passed away but you want to have a special dance, a lot of couples are choosing to have a mother-daughter dance in its place. That is a great place to start, have your mother step in and have a special mother-daughter dance. Another option would be if you have a brother (or brothers) have a brother-bride dance. You could also have a sisters' dance. For all of these dances I am recommending, I do have song suggestions on our website for these. So you have the mother-daughter, sister-brother, and sister dance, but not only that maybe you have a step-father that stepped in. Now you could have a step-father-step-daughter dance. It doesn’t have to be all traditional, you want to make your wedding day special just for you. So, make sure if you want to have a remembrance you could have it as a dedication or you could even have it as a special dance with another family member (could even be your Aunt or Uncle). The same thing goes, like I said, for your mother. It doesn’t have to be just for the father. So instead of the groom dancing with his mother, he could dance with his father, or whoever has played the mother's role like maybe the grandmother. It doesn’t have to be the traditional father-daughter, mother-son dances, it could be other people as well. You should feel comfortable with that. This is your wedding day.Another thing you may want to consider is how are you going to incorporate a remembrance of those people on your wedding day. A great thing that we did is we made a special candle and we had a picture of my wife’s mother on that candle. We lit that candle during the ceremony. That way she was remembered during the wedding ceremony like she was present. Maybe your father passed away and he had a favorite item, maybe it's a watch, maybe a favorite sports team so then you are wearing that team on a necklace or part of the garter. However, if you want to make them part of your special day I would highly suggest doing that. Another thing is flowers.

Matt talks about a wedding songs checklist for planning your wedding music.Important Links Download the wedding songs checklist. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodesPodcast TranscriptWelcome to 2023! Even though at the time of this recording it is December 29th. I am going to be doing things a little differently. If you want to see my ugly face, then you can do so now on YouTube, or you can listen to our podcast on Spotify, or I Heart Radio, however, you want to listen. You know, I just want to change things up a little bit in 2023 and give you some different advice and hopefully get some interviews, and really change the direction making this more interactive for all of you. So I just want to start off the year by going over a wedding songs checklist. Like I said, if you are looking on Spotify I am going to share my screen real quick. I have a wedding song checklist that I offer on the website that you can download for free. On this checklist, we go over the ceremony music, the reception, some of the formal dances, and then some of the overall feel of the music as well. This is really what I am going to talk about today, which is what songs you should be playing for your wedding day. If you haven’t figured any of that out you’ve come to the right place. So, I am going to start off with the ceremony and the prelude. That is industry jargon that really means the music that is playing as your guests come in and are being seated. You want to have this as really setting the mood for the day. A lot of couples will choose instrumental music, like Vitamin String Quartet or The Piano Guys. Instrumental music is very common music that is played for the prelude. Next up is “the marriers processional”, this is also the groom's processional. A lot of grooms do not have their own song as they walk down the aisle, but they most certainly can. You know, you can walk down to the Star Wars theme, the James Bond theme, or something that really means something to the groom. Just make sure you really talk it over with the officiant and the venue. A lot of churches may limit songs you can play during the wedding ceremony. So, make sure you talk it over with them and the celebrant to see what may be acceptable for that location.Next up are processional for the wedding party. This could be the flower girl, the ring bearer, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen, or whatever songs you want to play for the processional. You can have all of these as one song but I can tell you the next one, the marriers entrance song or the brides' entrance song (the bridal march) is typically the bridal party and they walk down the aisle to their own song. This is where you can bring in your personality as well. Here you can have a special song. Say you are a Disney fan then you could have “What Dreams Are Made Of” which is very popular by Brent Morgan. OR you could have the ukulele version of a Disney song as well. As I said, you could have the Vitamin String Quartet, The Piano Guys, really make this designed to your personality and the songs you like. A lot of people play an instrumental song from the Twilight series, so you know, just bring in your personality.A lot of couples choose a unity song for their ceremony so this could be the “tieing of the knot”, unity candle lighting, or whatever you are doing to signify the unity of two families becoming one. It could even be a black and tan beer, so whatever you have as the unity of two families/people becoming one. You could have a special song for that. Then also, maybe you want to have songs for the communion or the readings or other moments your ceremony includes. You don’t have to have music, that is up to you. Typically the average wedding is only about 15-20 min long unless you are going to have a full-on religious ceremony which could take up to an hour. So, just pick out your music but make sure you are speaking with those in charge of the ceremony space and the music including the DJ, Pianist,

Matt talks about R&B first dance songs to play as a married couple.Important Links View the complete list of R&B first dance songs. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodesPodcast TranscriptR&B music is soulful, it’s romantic, and I think it makes for some of the best wedding songs you can play as a married couple. Today I am going to be focusing on more of the newer songs so of course, these are not the tried and true classics that you can find. Examples like Sam Cook and Nat King Cole. I just want to give you some ideas that are outside of the box that maybe you haven’t thought of, that maybe describe your relationship and your love for each other. Now, if you prefer to read the list, or listen to the list (as you know we cannot play the list legally), you can do so on the website MyWeddingSongs.com and just search for First Dance songs and it will come up. While you are on the website, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter of all the new wedding songs released in the previous month, plus what is trending.Let us go ahead and get started with the first song on the list. It is by Veto and is called “Forever”. Released in 2022 it is a brand new song but it is quickly becoming very popular. Lyrics include…You have all the leverage, girl, I’m yours if you want it, Let’s make it forever, girl. Another great new song is by Selah Sue called “You (Rework)” with the lyrics…All I need is time in your embrace, It’s always so much better, Never in my life I’ve felt this way, Yes, you are all I need. Another one of my recent favorites is by Ric Hassani and is called “Angel (Acoustic Version)” You may not have heard of him yet, but this is a fantastic first dance song with the lyrics…I might lose sleep tonight, ‘Cause finally my dream has come true, I was created for you, You are my angel. As I said, the lyrics fit very nicely into a first dance song. Now, this next song was on top of the R&B adult chart, and it is by the popular Kem with his song “Stuck On You”. It was released in 2022 with the lyrics…And your love, Is all I needed, To be fearless, Baby, I’m stuck on you. And, the last song I have, released in 2022, is by an artist probably most well known for his song “Down”. It is Jay Sean with his song “Incomplete” with the lyrics (I should say the lover lyrics)…Never know when it could be different, If there was no you, I’d be, I’d be incomplete. Probably my favorite song on the whole list is by the artists Jose James and Taali with the song “I Found A Love”. Lyrics include…I found a love, The kind to hold, The kind that lifts you from the bottom of your soul, The kind that makes, The broken whole. Next up is Leela James in 2021 with the song “You’re The One” with romantic lyrics…You’re the one that treats me right, Just the way I like, You’re the one. I like the connotations of this next song, “At My Worst” by Pink Sweat$ and Kehlani with the lyrics…If you stay forever, let me hold your hand, I can fill those places in your heart no one else can, Let me show you, love, oh, I don’t pretend.Next up is actually a popular first dance song, “Conversations In The Dark” by John Legend, released in 2020. Lyrics include…You get hung up on your flaws, Well, in my eyes, you are perfect, As you are. Another duet is “Anything For You” by Ledisi and PJ Morton. It was released in 2020 with the lyrics…I will do anything for you, You are my life, one means us two, Anything, anything for you. Rahsaan Patterson released “Sent From Heaven” in 2019 with the lyrics…Thoughts of you rise like the sun, and, My days are much brighter Because you’re sent from heaven. Another popular first dance song is by Snoh Aalegra “Find Someone Like You” released in 2019 with the lyrics…I’ve been waitin’ my whole life, to find someone like you, Find someone like you. Here is another song that is not going to be on everybody's radar. Derran Day’s song “My Word” was released in 2018 with the lyrics…Cross every star, Swim the ocean so far,

Matt talks about popular reggae wedding songs to play on your wedding day.Important Links View the complete list of reggae wedding songs. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodesPodcast TranscriptHello, today I am going to be talking about Raggae wedding songs. You know, most of us, when we think about Reggae music we think of Bob Marley, of course, being the legend of Reggae music. There is so much more that you can play than just Bob Marley. First and foremost, I just want to say that I am not a Reggae wedding music expert. I did rely on DJ Curtis from the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut) and he offered me some tips on Reggae music to play. Now, I am not going to be covering all of the songs I mention on our website, I have a list of 100 songs on the site. I just want to give you an idea of what songs you can incorporate into your wedding day playlist. While you are on the website, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter of all the new wedding songs released in the previous month, plus what is trending. One good thing about our website is you can also listen to songs as well. As you know, I cannot play the music due to copyright laws (I don’t want to get in trouble for that).Let's go ahead and get started with the first song I want to cover today. It is by a super-group called Stick Figure. For those of you who do know Reggae music, you know that Stick Figure should be on this list because they are a super-group in the genre. The first song was released in 2022 and is called “Way Of Life” was also with Slightly Stoopid. Lyrics include…I will carry you to the other side, To another place, to another life, I’ll be there for you every day and night, Gonna bring you right back to the way of life. A pretty romantic song. So, another song that they released this year as well is called “Love Me Easy” with Stick Figure, ANORA, and Walshy Fire with the lyrics…You got the right kind of motion, I will give you devotion, Love me, love me, love me, easy. I think this is a great way to start this list of Reggae songs for your wedding. The next song on the list is Shenseea & Rvssian with “You’re The One I Love”. Released in 2021, lyrics include…I’ma stay right by your side, Not a thing could change my mind, You are the one I love. The first song from 2020 is by Sean Paul. I do have a lot of Sean Paul songs on this list. This one is with Tove Lo and is called “Calling On Me” with the lyrics…Alright then, True love never fails, love never falls, Real love conquers all (Yeah). The second song, also from 2020, is “Smile” by WizKid feat. H.E.R. This really makes a great background song for cocktail hour or dinner. It just sets a love vibe with lyrics…I love your life, yeah, Love it when you smile, Say, I will do anything for my love, yeah yeah, I will do anything for my love. Next up is a cover of the Lee Brice song “Rumor” by Maoli with the lyrics…There’s a rumor goin’ ’round about me and you, Stirring up our little town, the last week or two, So tell me why you even tryna deny this feeling. One of my favorite groups in this genre is Michael Franti and Spearheads. This song features Cherine Tanya Anderson called “Say Hey I Love You”, released in 2018. Lyrics include…The more I see, the less I know, But I know one thing I love you (baby girl), I love you, I love you, I love you. Now, Rhianna is on a lot of Reggae song lists and the song I chose is “Pon De Replay”. This is a great dance tune and one that you should really incorporate into your party/dancing part of your wedding. This next song was actually recommended to me by a listener because he had it as his first dance song. The song is by Jah Cure and he did a cover of John Legend’s song “All Of Me”. As you probably remember the lyrics include….You’re my end and my beginning, Even when I lose, I’m winning, Cause I give you all of me, And you give me all of you. “Beautiful” by Seeed, released in 2014 with the lyrics…You saved my life...

Matt talks about popular classic rock love songs to play on your wedding day - as a first dance, during the ceremony, as a slow dance song, or to accent a moment like cutting the wedding cake.Important Links View the complete list of classic rock love songs. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodesPodcast TranscriptAll right let's talk about Classic Rock love songs. These are Classic Rock songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Before that time I would consider being oldies and newer then that would be more modern, and as time progresses you could say that the 2000s could be considered classic but only time will give that presence. On our website, MyWeddingSongs.com I do have a list of 60 top Classic Rock songs that you can check out by searching for Classic Rock songs on the website. While you are there make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter of all the new wedding songs released in the previous month, plus what is trending. That way you get an idea of what songs are popular that maybe you have forgotten about for a little while. Now, of course, I am not going to be covering all 60 songs because that would really bore you to death, but let's go ahead and get started with the first song by U2 and “All I Want Is You”. U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time from Ireland. This song has the lyrics…But all the promises we make, From the cradle to the grave, When all I want is you. Kind of a lovey-dovey song that you can have. Another legendary Classic Rock band is Led Zepplin with their song “All My Love”. I think that a lot of people forget about this song. Lyrics include…His is the force that lies within, Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find, He is a feather in the wind, All of my love. There are quite a few Bon Jovi songs that I could have selected, but I preferred the song “Always” released in 1994 on their album Cross Road, with the lyrics…‘Til the heavens burst and the words don’t rhyme, And I know when I die, you’ll be on my mind, And I’ll love you, always. From the Hair Band era we have Styx with “Babe” in 1979, and also “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon in 1984 was a very popular love song. Lyrics included…I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for, It’s time to bring this ship into the shore, And throw away the oars, forever. A very popular love song that was covered by Brian McKnight, and many other artists, is “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison in 1970, with the lyrics…Take away my trouble, take away my grief, Take away my heartache, in the night like a thief, She gives me love, love, love, love, crazy love. You know, everybody thinks of “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, but that is really like a stalking song so not a very good wedding song. Instead, you may consider “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” with the lyrics…I resolved to call her up, A thousand times a day, And ask her if she’ll marry me. This song is a mid-tempo song so it is one you can have during the dancing part, even during the cocktail hour or just to keep the mood up.“Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” by Poison in 1988 with the lyrics…Just like every night has its dawn, Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song, Every rose has its thorn. The next two songs are very popular first dance songs. One of my best friends had it at his wedding. It is “Everything I Do I Do It For You” by Brian Adams, and “Faithfully” by Journey with those famous lyrics…And lovin’ a music man, Ain’t always what it’s supposed to be, Oh girl you stand by me, I’m forever yours, faithfully. Another very popular love song, released in 1989, is “Have I Told You Lately” by Van Morrison. It was covered by Rod Stewart and include the lyrics…Have I told you lately that I love you, Have I told you there’s no one else above you, You fill my heart with gladness.Motley Crue’s song “Home Sweet Home” released in 1985 is a great love ballad. Lyrics include…Long and winding road, I’m on my way, I’m on my way, Home sweet home.

Podcast Transcript Welcome to the Wedding Songs Podcast featuring newly released songs you need to know and the tried and true classics. Get song ideas from the time guests arrive until the last dance of the reception. And now your host, Matt Campbell founder of MyWeddingSongs.com.

Welcome to episode number 82 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell and today I am going to be talking about groom processional songs. These are songs you can play as the groom walks down the aisle as the ceremony begins. Great songs that really fit his personality. If you prefer to read the list or listen to the list, you can do so on our website MyWeddingSongs.com. While you are there make sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter (called the Newsletter). In it, we tell you about all the new songs released in the prior month and also great trending songs you can play on your wedding day. Let’s go ahead and get started with the list. I am going to be giving you these in chronological order by their release date.

Starting off in 2021 with “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. Yes, the famous Elvis song, but this is the Music Trave Love cover. It is two guys with acoustic guitars making it a very classy song to play as the groom walks down the aisle. Next up, also in 2021, is “Marry You” the acoustic cover by The Moon Loungers. This is a cover of the song by Bruno Mars. You really have to listen to the lyrics of this to make sure it fits your story, but it is a very popular wedding song that was made into an acoustic cover. As a mid-tempo song in the Pop genre, we have “Butterflies” by MAX, Ali Gatie released in 2021. This is a great song that you can play with the lyrics…I won’t stop getting butterflies, I get ’em every time I look into your eyes. This song was actually created for his wife on their first anniversary. If you are looking for something more up-tempo, then the Indie artist Vance Joy released “Missing Piece”. Lyrics include…That missing piece is found, You know when you’re by my side, darling. Nothing can bring us down.

If you are into Alternative Rock, then LANY’s (LANY is for a combination of Los Angeles and New Your) “Nobody Else” with the lyrics…It’s all a crazy trip. But life ain’t about what you do, It’s who you do it with. Just for R&B fans, Brian McKnight released “Nobody” with the lyrics…I’ll kiss nobody else’s lips. My command is your every wish. You can believe, for sure. I’ll be nobody’s man but yours. An excellent Country song you can have is “Look At Me Now” by Matt Stell with the lyrics…I lost it the second I saw you in that dress, And your daddy was walkin’ you down. Thought I’d never do this, But look at me now. It really does talk about your wedding day and the groom's processional. One of my favorite songs on the list, in 2020 is Justin Bieber's acoustic cover of “Intentions”. Lyrics include…Shower you with all my attention. Yeah, these are my only intentions. This acoustic cover is a good choice. Another great Country song, released in 2019 is Cody Johnson’s “On My Way To You” with the lyrics…I was just passin’ time, Kinda just passin’ through, On my way to you.

A very popular Pop song is James Arthur’s “Falling Like The Stars”. For EDM fans I have Kygo & Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love” released in 2019. Another great R&B song is “Beyond” by Leon Bridges released in 2018 with the lyrics…I’m scared to death that she might be it, That the love is real, that the shoe might fit. She might just be my everything and beyond. One thing to consider when planning processional songs is where your wedding is going to be. Welcome to episode number 81 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell and today I am going to be talking about songs you can play for a combined parent-child dance. Now, this could be the father-daughter / mother-son dance combined into one song. You may not want to have a lovey-dovey song that is particular to a father-daughter or for a mother-son. This is more generic and could be played for either dance. If you prefer to read the list, or listen to the list you can do so on our website MyWeddingSongs.com. Just search for combined dances. We will also have a link in our show notes as well. While you are on the website, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter, The Music Letter. We send it out on the last day of the month and it features all of the wedding songs of the prior month, also some hidden gems, and some songs you can play on date night as well. Make sure you check that out.

I am not going to go thru every song on the list but I am going to go thru these in chronological order starting with the newest song first. Let's go ahead and get started with the first song titled “On Me” by Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, and Ava Max. This was featured in the Scooby Doo soundtrack of 2020. It is really a great song that describes a relationship where you can rely on another person, particularly a parent. If you have never heard this song, the lyrics include…And if you want to, tell me what you gon’ do, You could put it all, put it all on me, You can count on me, one, two, three. One of the most popular parent-child dance songs at weddings is “Forever Young”. A lot of artists have covered this and if you are a Folk fan, in 2019 Andrea von Kampen released this song. It is a great Folk song with the lyrics…Forever young, I want to be forever young. Next up, in 2018, Luke Bryan released “Most People Are Good” with the lyrics…I believe this world ain’t half as bad as it looks, I believe most people are good.

Another more generic song is “Humble And Kind” by Tim McGraw in 2016, with the lyrics…When the work you put in is realized, Let yourself feel the pride but, Always stay humble and kind. In 2007 the lead singer of Matchbox 20, Rob Thomas, released “Little Wonders” for the Meet the Robinson’s soundtrack. Lyrics include…Our lives are made, In these small hours, These little wonders. Also released in 2007 is a collaboration with Jim Brickman featuring Lady A on the song “Never Alone”. Lyrics include…So when hard times have found you and your fears surround you, Wrap my love around you, you’re never alone. Another very popular parent-child dance song at weddings is “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts with the lyrics…My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small. If you are looking for a Christian song then in 2005 Mark Harris released “Find Your Wings” with the lyrics…I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams, And that faith gives you the courage, To dare to do great things.

In 2003 Josh Groban released “You Raise Me Up” as a popular selection. In 2000 Lee Ann Womack released “I Hope You Dance” with the lyrics…Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. Of course “Sweet Child O’Mine” by Guns & Roses is a popular father-daughter dance song,

Welcome to episode number 80 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell and today I am going to be talking about Jazz songs you can play during your wedding ceremony and reception. If you prefer to read the list you can do so on our website MyWeddingSongs.com. Just go to playlists in the main menu then genre. Right there you will see all of the genres including Jazz. If you have any questions about any songs on the list, you can reach out to me on the website. While you're there, on the main menu, make sure you subscribe to our monthly newsletter. It goes out on the last day of the month and features all the new wedding songs released in the prior month. It also has great song ideas for date night or even just sitting by the fire. I realize that not every wedding will want to play Jazz music because it can be a slower tempo, but there are some great Jazz songs you can incorporate into your wedding day.

Now, Boney James recently released an album that is becoming wildly popular. One of the songs I would like to talk about today is “Coastin’” by Boney James featuring LeLah Hathaway, make sure you listen to that song. Another common crooner that is on a lot of Jazz song lists is Frank Sinatra. One of his most popular songs is “Fly Me To The Moon” which features Count Basie and his orchestra. Also his song “My Way” you could have as the last dance song that everybody will sing along to. Those are a few really popular Jazz songs that are being downloaded and streamed right now.

Let’s go ahead and get started on the list. Starting off with “Valentine” by Laufey released in 2022. Now you can’t really go wrong with a song titled “Valentine” and the lyrics…How the hell did I fall in love this time? And honestly, I can’t believe I get to call you mine. I blinked and suddenly, I had a Valentine. You have to love those lyrics that you can incorporate into your wedding. The modern-day crooner, Michael Buble is also a very popular Jazz artist, or you may consider adult contemporary. His new album Higher, also released in 2022, features great songs like “A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square” with the lyrics…It was such a romantic affair, And when you turned and smiled at me. A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square. Another song on that album is “My Valentine” with the lyrics…And she’ll be there, This love of mine, My Valentine. If R&B is your thing, one of my favorite new songs is “It Had To Be You” but this is not the Harry Connick version, this is by Jac Ross with a more Jazz / R&B feel to it. Lyrics include…I wandered around, and I finally found, The somebody who could make me be true. And could make me be blue, And even be glad, Just to be sad – thinking of you.

Two mega stars collaborated together, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga in 2021, for a whole album. My favorite song on that album is “I Get A Kick Out Of You” with the lyrics…Flying too high with some gal in the sky is my idea of nothing to do, Yet I get a kick, You give me a whirl, I get a kick out of you, Get my kicks out of you. For true Jazz fans, “Everything You Touch Is Gold” by Gregory Porter in 2020, I really love Gregory Porters' voice and his Jazz feel you could have as a background song or even during the wedding ceremony. Lyrics include…And it feels like heaven, Touchin’ your hand, But it’s just like heaven, Callin’ your name. The next song I want to mention is a song you could play throughout your wedding ceremony,

Thank you for tuning into episode number 79 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell and today I am going to be talking about great Disco songs that you could be playing at your wedding reception. If you prefer to read the list, or listen to the list, you can do so on our website at MyWeddingSongs.com. Just type in Disco in the search bar and it will take you right to this list. While you are there make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter. You will get all of the new wedding songs being released in the prior month, and also hidden gems to play at your wedding ceremony and reception. You may be wondering “Why are we talking about Disco songs?” Well, it is because there is a trend of Disco revival songs, also known as Modern Disco songs. These songs include “Take My Breath” by The Weeknd, “Magic” by Kyle Minogue, “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa, “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga, “Treasure”, recently, by Bruno Mars, and even “I Feel Love” by Sam Smith that was popular in the Target commercials. So let us go ahead and get started. I am going to be discussing these by the year they were released. Starting off with a brand new song by ABBA released in 2021 called “Don’t Shut Me Down”. Lyrics include…I’m not the same this time around (ooh), I’m fired up, don’t shut me down. Another fairly recent song, “Disco Gamma” by Los Charly’s Orchestra, released in 2010 is a great instrumental song. Gazzara’s song “Can’t Hide Love” from 1995, with the lyrics…You can’t pretend there’s nothing there, Girl, I look in your eyes, I see you care. One of the greatest Funk bands of all time, The Gap Band, released “I Found My Baby” in 1984 with the lyrics…That’s why I found my baby, I found my love. This has a perfect theme for a wedding day.

“Fresh” by Kool and The Gang in 1984 with lyrics…She’s so exciting to me yeah, She’s fresh (fresh) exciting, She’s so inviting to me yeah. In 1983, PYT which stands for “Pretty Young Thing” by Michael Jackson, is a great dance song to play. “BYOB, Bring Your Own Baby” by Sister Sledge in 1983. You know they will have other songs on this list as well. Just like the next one by The Gap Band, probably their most recognized song on the list, “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” from 1982. Lyrics include…You turn me out, you turn me on, You turned me loose then you turned me wrong, You dropped a bomb on me. One of the greatest Disco songs, and one that you could play for the garter toss, is “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls released in 1982. Lyrics for this song include…It’s raining men! Amen! I’m gonna go out to run and let myself get, Absolutely soaking wet! Shalamar’s “A Night To Remember” in 1982 may be a song you have forgotten about, with the lyrics…Make this a night to remember, Get ready, tonight, Gonna make this a night to remember.

One of the top 5 Disco songs of all time, Earth, Wind &Fire’s “Let’s Groove” from 1981. Lyrics are…Share the spice of life, Baby slice it right, We’re gonna groove tonight. “Super Freak” by Rick James in 1981 will have everybody freaking out on the dance floor, and “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross from 1980 is a very popular Disco song. Famous lyrics include…I’m coming out. I want the world to know, Got to let it show. Her other song, also released in 1980, is “Upside Down”. George Benson released “Give Me The Night” in 1980 with the lyrics…And if you feel all...

I have these grouped by genre starting off with Rock Songs.

The first one is “Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man released in 2017, and “Handclap” by Fitz & The Tantrums in 2016. We all know the famous lyrics that get everybody to clap…”Cause you don’t even know, I can make your hands clap. “Best Day Of My Life by American Authors, released in 2014. This is a great song that you could play as a recessional song, that is after the “I Do’s”. Lyrics include…No, just don’t wake me now. This is gonna be the best day of my life. Popular dance song, “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon in 2014. With the lyrics…Just keep your eyes on me. I said you’re holding back, She said shut up and dance with me.

Next up are R&B wedding songs from the 2010s with “Finesse” by Bruno Mars featuring Cardi B. “Can't Feel My Face” by The Weeknd, in 2015 with the lyrics…I can’t feel my face when I’m with you. But I love it, but I love it. “Love On Top” by Beyonce in 2013 with the lyrics…You’re the one I can always call. When I need to make everything stop. Finally, you put my love on top. This can be played throughout your wedding day, it is very popular. So is her other song “Drunk In Love” with her husband Jay Z, also released in 2013. Make sure you play those two songs if you are a big Beyonce fan. Her recently released Renaissance album also has some great dance tunes on it as well. “Suit And Tie” by Justin Timberlake featuring Jay Z, in 2013, is a great song for the garter toss if you want to have it, or just a tribute to all the men that are in the wedding or reception. Lyrics include…And as long as I’ve got my suit and tie, I’ma leave it all on the floor tonight. The controversial song, “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I. was released in 2013. If this is still really popular in your area it is a great dance tune.

“All Of Me” by John Legend in 2013 is one of the greatest R&B love songs of all time. With the lyrics…You’re my end and my beginnin’. Even when I lose, I’m winnin’. Another great love song, by Miguel, called “Adorn” in 2012, with the lyrics…Let my love adorn you, baby. Don’t you ever Don’t you let nobody tell you different. A great dance tune by Usher, featuring Pitbull, is “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love”. It was released in 2010 with the lyrics…Gon’ get you right, ‘Cause baby tonight, DJ got us fallin’ in love again. Another one of his famous dance tunes is “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am in 2010. This closes out the R&B.

Next up are the Dance tunes. Starting off with “Something Just Like This” by the Chainsmokers and Coldplay released in 2017. I really love this as a cocktail hour or dinner background song. One of the greatest entrance songs, into the reception, is “This Is What I Came For” by Calvin Harris featuring Rhianna released in 2016. Lyrics include…Baby,

A lot of the next songs were also released in 2022, including “Grow As We Go” by Ben Platt and Sara Bareilles. This was performed on the American Idol stage. “First Date (the acoustic version)” by Taylor Acorn. You may remember this song by Blink 182. “The Forever Now” by the This Is Us Cast by Mandy Moore. This is from the This Is Us wedding, the TV series before the whole series ended. “Always Looking For You” by Jason Mraz and “Heaven” by Calum Scott. This is from his Bridges album. That also includes other great wedding songs from that album.

“What Dreams Are Made Of” by Brent Morgan. You may remember this from the Disney films, with the lyrics…I've got somewhere I belong. I've got somebody to love. This is what dreams are made of. If you're looking for an Indie Pop song, then “Magnificent” by Oh Wonder, with the lyrics…You're my unbelieve. And then suddenly I see what my future could have been. If I didn't pick you. From the movie Marry Me we have the song “Marry Me (Kat & Bastian Duet)” by Jennifer Lopez and Maluma in 2022. And also from the same album, “Love Of My Life” by Jennifer Lopez. And here's a great spin on a song, ABCDEFU, but this Is “Love You Still (ABCDEDU romantic version)” by Tyler Shaw with the lyrics… I'm just so into you. I wanna let it all out. You're so perfectly fine. I could talk all day but let me spell it out.

One of my favorite new artists Teddy Swims, with his song “Amazing” with the lyrics…Don't matter what you wear or what you do. You turnin’ heads in every room. Don't know why you act so surprised. You look amazing every time. A cover of the famous Beatles song “All You Need Is Love” by Katy Perry. This starts off the songs of 2021. With those famous lyrics…all you need is love. All you need is love. Love. Love is all you need. If you're looking for a duet song, then love is just a word by Jasmine Thompson and Calum Scott, with the lyrics…And I guess love is just a word, without you. “All Two Well (Taylor's version)” released in 20...

(00:18): Thank you for tuning in to the 76th episode of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell, and today I'm gonna be giving you my hot 50 wedding song picks that you could play for your wedding ceremony or your reception. These songs are selected from the popular downloads and songs that are streamed on the internet. And while you're there, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter that goes out on the last day of the month. The newsletter features all of the new songs released the prior month, and it's great song ideas for your wedding day and also for date night. So let's go ahead and get started. I'm gonna give you these lists in alphabetical order by the song title, starting off with song number one, "A Little Bit of Love" by Weezer, released in March of 2022. This is a great song for alternative rock fans, that really is a mid-tempo song that you could have as a background song during your reception.

(01:11):  Next up is  "abcdefu" by GAYLE, released in August of 2021. Now, of course, this is not gonna be a song that you're gonna play at every single wedding. If you have a group that loves this type of music, that loves a great sing-along song, then towards the end of the night this is a great song that you could play for all of your family and friends to sing along to. Number three is "About Damn Time" by Lizzo, released in April of 2022. This is a great R&B hip-hop song that you could play just to get all of the ladies out on the dance floor singing along.

(01:54): Number four is "All 4 Nothing (I'm So in Love)" by Lauv, released in April of 2022. A great song that you could play as a background song during dinner or during cocktail hour. It's a mid-tempo song that I think would really fit into pop music lovers' playlist. Number five is another pop song, "As It Was" by Harry styles, released in March of 2022. Another great background song to play. At number six is "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran, released in June of 2021. This is a song that you could play as a background song, or even if you have a great remix to it, it could also go as a great dance tune as well. Speaking of Ed Sheeran, he's also at number seven with Camina Cabella, "Bam Bam", released in March of 2022. I think this is a great background song. It goes really well with the pop fans and also for the Latin fans as well.

(02:43): At number eight is a great party song that you could play during the dancing part of your reception. That is "Big Energy (remix)" by lotto, Mariah Carey, and DJ Khaled released in March of 2022. Number nine is "Break My Soul" by Beyonce. This song is for the people that are really keeping up with the new music and love Beyonce. So this is a song that you could add to your rotation for the dancing part. At number 10 is a great country song that you could have as a parent-child dance song. So, as father-daughter, or mother-son. It's "Buy Dirt", but it's the acoustic version by Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan, released in October of 2021. You could even have this as a money dance song as well.

(03:31): At number 11 is a new song released from the Elvis movie "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Casey Musgraves. A lot of people have done a cover of this song.

Get song ideas from the time guests arrive until the last dance of the reception. And now your host, Matt Campbell, founder of myweddingsongs.com.

Hello and welcome to the 27th episode of The Wedding Songs Podcast. We have a treat for you today with our 27th episode, that means we've been online now for 26 weeks, which means six months, and I thought I'd share with you a little bit of the podcast process and the podcast statistics that we've developed over the past six months. So let's go ahead and get started with the first stat is the number of downloads of our podcasts over the last six months, it is a whopping 2,700. That's right. 2,700 downloads. Wow. Six months and only 2,700. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I can tell you that that's what it is, 2,700.

And what's interesting is the most popular episodes are the newly released songs from the past month and also the hot songs that are being released. Being that the most popular episodes are the newly released and the hot songs, that's the way we're going to proceed over the next six months. So we're going to have about two episodes a month, so that way I can focus on other things, but also give you exactly what you're looking for. Just to give you a little bit more of a deep dive into our podcast, I can tell you that mobile applications account for 86%. So our podcast is being listened to on applications. But of those mobile devices, what devices are people listening to?

And I can tell you that the people that are actually listening to our podcasts on a mobile device, 60% are on an Android device. And you'll know this because, in America, most people have Android devices, whereas other parts of the world, more people have iPhones, whereas only 24% of the people listening to our podcasts are on an iPhone. And some of the other interesting facts about our podcast is where are people listening to it. And I can tell you that majority of the people are actually in the United States, bomp, bomp, bomp. Oh yes, big surprise there. But I can tell you just as much listenership as there is in the United States, just a slight drop, the number two country is India.

And the number three drops all the way down to about 10% of the people listening to our podcast, and that is Pakistan, and then other English-speaking countries like the United Kingdom. So I can tell you the top three are definitely the United States, India, and Pakistan, I guess they really want to know about their wedding music. So if you're listening to us outside of the United States, thank you very much. So that's a little bit about our podcast statistics, but let's go deep into Spotify. And for the last six months, only 639 starts with 168 streams and 402 listeners. And on Spotify, we do have 59 followers. After six months, only 59 followers. I guess I need to improve what I'm talking about.

So there will be some changes moving forward and hope that we can start to increase those numbers. And if you do have any suggestions, please do reach out to us on our Facebook group, Wedding Songs Chat, or weddingsongschat.com will take you right there. One of the things that you may not be aware of is what we're able to do is convert our podcast into a video. We're able to convert our MP3 files, which are the audio files, into MP4 files by using a tool called Headliner. And Headliner is a great tool that will convert that audio into an actual video. And what we're doing with those is we're uploading those into our YouTube channel.

So thank you to those who are also listening to us on our YouTube channel. We not only have our podcast,

Matt talks about what it takes for a wedding DJ to be legal when it comes to music.  Join the discussion on our Facebook group - Wedding Songs Chat. Transcript Hi everybody. I'm Matt Campbell and welcome to the 14th episode of the Wedding Songs Podcast. Today is April 13th, 2020 and I'm going to be talking about something a little bit different today, and that is Music Rights and music royalties, something that DJs have to consider for every public performance and that typically wedding couples don't really think about.

When a DJ does perform a public performance and they play music and being paid to play that music, they have to consider the royalties that have to be paid to the performers and the songwriters. And this is done through companies like ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. SESAC is short for SoundExchange, ASCAP is American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, and BMI stands for Broadcast Music Incorporated.  What these companies do is they help pay the publishers and the songwriters as performance royalties for musical works, and included in this is DJs performing at weddings and public events.

Now let me just say that I'm not a lawyer and I don't pretend to be a lawyer if you have any questions about any of this, be sure to talk to your lawyer because this is a debate inside of the DJ community. And so, it's definitely a discussion you should have with your DJ if they are performing legitimately and as a professional DJ.

Another consideration in this is the power that the record labels have. There are three major labels inside of the music industry. The big three labels are Universal Music Group, which accounts for about 30%, Sony Music Entertainment is about 30% as well, and then Warner Music Group accounts for about 20%, EMI Group, which accounts for about 10%, and then all of the independent labels account for about 12%.

Now when I consider record labels, I like comparing that to the big guys in the beer industry. You have MillerCoors and you also have Anheuser-Busch. Now what these companies have done, they've have started smaller craft beers themselves, but they have also bought out other smaller craft beers as well, companies like Four Peaks and Goose Island. But they also have their own brands as well like MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch have Blue Moon, Michelob, and other brands as well. The same thing goes for the record labels.

There are smaller record labels that rely on the distribution of the larger labels, but there are also small labels that have no connection to the major labels, and those are true independent record labels. I just want to go ahead and point that out because a lot of people don't understand the record labels and the power that they have.

Next, let's go ahead and talk about the rights to the music. So when wedding couples go on to Spotify or they go on to YouTube, they may listen to songs, but that doesn't mean that the DJs have the right to play those songs at your wedding. Many DJs will go to sites like iTunes and Amazon, so that way they can purchase the music that you want for your wedding. This is very inexpensive compared to back in the days when we had 45s or we had records, which we still have today and CDs and cassettes where we had to go and by these complete albums.

Where now DJs can go buy individual songs through music services like Amazon and iTunes, so that way they can physically own that music. So when you're selecting your music on sites like Spotify or YouTube, you have to know whether the DJ can get legal rights to play that song at your wedding. Just because it's on YouTube doesn't mean that the DJ can legally play that music. Know they cannot play music directly from YouTube onto their system for your event, that would be considered something that's illegal.

But DJs do have access to many record pools. Now the record pools do have contracts with record labels, so that way they can offer DJs, non-promotional music at their events.
