After raising four children, Karen O’Connor found herself smack bang in the middle of menopause with zero idea of what to do with her life.

Depressed, lonely and majorly hormonal, she was shamefully convinced that she was the only person who felt this way, as everyone she knew seemed to have their act together. But as she began to talk to people, she realized that most people going through midlife experience a similar sort of thing.

Karen also realized that everyone has an amazing story to share, so she began podcasting, partly to get those stories out into the world and hopefully to make a difference for the people listening, but also to indulge her love of talking to people and finding out about them.

Now Karen has decided to take things a step further and support other people in speaking up and getting their own podcasts out into the world.

In a world where society has us convinced that we are never quite good enough, her photography business focuses on showing you just how enough you are. They believe every woman is beautiful, without question.

Through her journey, she discovered the permission to create a joyful life, to build a business and eventually she found a way to stand in her power and break through her glass ceilings. As the founder and author behind Awakened-Woman, a digital platform designed to inspire and invigorate females, author Yvette Bodden writes with endless empathy. In just two years, AW has amassed tens of thousands of followers, thanks to a combined 500+ articles centered around celebrity profiles on relationships, love, abuse, motherhood, and Latino culture, infused with a signature blend of Yvette’s pragmatism and compassion.

The journey began with a painful divorce, all sparked by a need to find herself. Many women lose their identity in motherhood and relationships. The unraveling changed her path and helped her become a better self - the woman she is meant to be. A book and AW were born and 2 years in, she continues “A Journey to Becoming the Best Self.”

As a single mother based in New York City—a metropolis she credits for her open mind—Yvette regularly channels her own growth experiences, she has contributed to outlets like SmartCoparent and DivorceHub.com, authoring articles that focus on maintaining financial health through personal crises. Ultimately, Yvette’s writing, which seeks to empower and encourage women searching for personalized definitions of success, is an effort to build strong communities through vulnerable and powerful storytelling.

Kendra is a brand designer and strategist who has been running her own design studio in New York for the last 20 years. When she has had to make major shifts in her life, she realized that the technique she used was the same process that she put her branding clients through. She started by looking at other people who had achieved the things that she was looking to achieve, living a life she was looking to live, and that embodied the persona that she was looking to grow into. From there she picked from them to create her personal brand to grow into. Then she was able to reverse engineer the journey to becoming that person.

Whether it was overcoming alcoholism or finding the power to leave her damaging marriage, it allowed her to see the light and create the aligned steps to get to where she wanted to be. And the coolest thing is that it wasn't somebody that she wasn't already. It was just somebody that she had lost along the way….so it's really the journey to finding your true self. This method and technique has worked so well for her and she’s shared this with other people over the years and it's done wonders for them as well. Every single moment is a new opportunity to change our lives - we just have to make that choice and follow the path to get there.

In this episode of The Self Project Podcast:

Dr. Hebell-Fernando, PhD began her education with extensive study in molecular biology before receiving an MBA from Clemson University. During her work as a DNA researcher, she observed the very real need for uncovering the root cause of illness and working with the body’s wisdom to promote healing. This observation became the foundation for her love of healing modalities found in Reiki, functional nutrition, and East-Asian medicine. She is a Reiki Master and BioEnergetic Practitioner.

As Highly Sensitive Person, she struggled first-hand with aggressive and one-size-fits-all approaches (even in the "alternative healing world"), and she focuses on offering her clients a safe and gentle space for restoration and healing. A lifelong learner, she completed her Integrative Medicine Doctor (BOIM) and Doctor of Humanitarian Services from the World Organization of Natural Medicine. She is also a licensed acupuncturist and holistic health practitioner in the state of Arizona.

She shares her insight and guidance virtually with clients worldwide. In particular, she helps women cope with the challenges of infertility, loss, failed fertility treatments and childlessness. It is her mission to raise awareness of the physical, emotional and financial exhaustion that women and couples experience on their infertility journey. There is no soft place to land once these treatments fail. She offers a message of hope to inspire women to find their soul purpose in life and regain their self confidence, self worth and passion.

In this episode of The Self Project Podcast:

  • Being childless not by choice
  • Beginning to move forward from the trauma - finding acceptance and processing your journey

Join McCall and I for this epic episode, where we talk more about finding your version of God, spirituality, 12-step recovery, philosophy, parenting, and a whole lot more. My thinking was stretched so much, and I know yours will be too!

McCall has been active in 12-step programs for more than 20 years. Her involvement started after her mother suffered a traumatic brain injury combined with uncontrolled alcoholism. Seeking a way of dealing with her turbulent childhood, and hoping for some woo-woo thing called “Spiritual Awakening”, McCall found that the steps to recovery were also stumbling blocks — important goals to achieve, but how?

Upon losing her job at the beginning of the pandemic, McCall was encouraged to start a podcast. And so that's exactly what she did!

UnBoxing "God" is a bi-weekly podcast discussing spiritual issues involving God, philosophy, 12-step recovery, and psychology.

McCall taps into wisdom of the ages, from great minds such as Plato, Jung, Marcus Aurelius, Helen Keller, William James, and Richard Feynman, as well as theologians and clergy, to “UnBox” the mysteries of God, spirituality, recovery, and the complicated, often contradictory messages they offer.

Join me in this episode with Erin where we talk more about stepping into the possibilities of life. She leaves us with so many great tips on how to use our emotions as tools instead of letting them run us.

Erin believes in creating a world where life isn't a battleground...it's a playground of possibility, and in that space, self-sabotage is transmuted into self-mastery.

She is a Master Possibility Coach, Speaker and Author on a mission to empower women by using questions instead of gurus or google to evoke the curiosity and courage that it takes to live a fulfilled and aligned life.

Erin is often coined as the 'Question Queen'. She has earned that title by living by the mantra: life is a mystery to be lived and not a problem to be solved. When you spend time with Erin, you'll begin to naturally see and remove the misbeliefs and blocks that you once thought you had, and she will guide you to the answers that are within you so that you can tap into your own infinite playground of possibility.

"What else is possible that you have never even imagined?"

Erin calls this the Life is a Playground of Possibility Movement.

Join us for this episode where Sandra shares the story of her child and young adulthood with us. She shares her heartbreaking experiences and reminds us throughout that we have the right to speak up for ourselves and leave situations that don’t feel right.

Sandra is an Intuitive Trauma Release & Self-Empowerment Coach, Reiki Master/Teacher, Traumatic Incident Reduction Facilitator and Passionate Writer. Have some radical changes you need to make? Then definitely don’t miss this episode. I talk about the changes I had to make to go from a spiraling alcoholic to where I am today.

  1. You must have the desire for the change. No one else can do the work for you. (4:52)
  2. Get clear on what you DO want, and what you DON’T want. (17:44)
  3. Start taking better care of yourself, your body, your health. How do you treat your VEHICLE? (22:57)
  4. Forgive and let go of the past. (30:02)
  5. Self-honesty and self-awareness. Be a detective. Why am I feeling triggered? Why do I have this belief? Why am I stuck in this pattern? Ask why, why, why until you get to the root of the issue. (34:48)
  6. A little bit of grit. You have to push through the plateaus because some chapters will feel like 1 step forward, 3 steps back. (39:38)
  7. Brain Food. What are you consuming? Fear or love and growth? (51:37)
  8. Have healthy coping tools. Do you avoid and procrastinate? (55:32)
  9. Get uncomfortable, often. Grow, grow, and then grow some more. What can you do this week to stretch yourself? (58:25)

(47:35) The Census/Google Earth/Government Spy guy veers me off topic

In order to get the results, you HAVE to do the work. We can’t “quick fix” everything.

I used to be a nurse. One who loved what I got to do. One who loved helping people in some of their most difficult and terrifying times.

Holding witness to life.  Death.  Abuse.  Trauma.  Grief.  Hopelessness. Despair.  Also joy, laughter, and love of the deepest kind.

While empathetic, nurses also have a switch to shut it down; to turn to auto pilot; to keep the emotions out of the way long enough to do the job; to avoid getting caught up in the heavy or chaotic energy that can surround many nursing environments.

Trauma is stored in our body, no matter how big or small it may seem.  It all matters and it all deserves a voice!
